Cast of Characters: Peter Parker, Susan Sullivan

Peter Parker has posed:
Another Friday night...another quiet area in the midst of the beating heart of Brooklyn.

Spider-Man is chilling out on the iron bench in the scrapyard, a small box sitting next to him. The white box originally held a StarkPhone, but right now it held a homebrewed communication link, designed for a VERY special person.

He had sent a text to Demona's phone. The message was short and simple:

<Spidey here. Your Spider-Comm rig is ready. I'll be at the gym tonight, if you would like to come by.>

Hopefully she'll "eat" before she comes by. The lack of other people had made it rough for her, and he wasn't looking for a repeat episode.

Susan Sullivan has posed:
Demona comes back with her mask on. She walks in and waves at Spider-Man. "Hey!" she says, enthusiastically. "You're sending me such mixed messages," she adds, playfully, "asking me to meet you here alone at night in a skin-tight getup like that." She smirks as she approaches the friendly, neighborhood Peter.

Peter Parker has posed:
Spidey sighs. "She's only interested in my body. IQ of a small planet..." He smirks as he stands up, picking up the box. "Welp, I Just got this finished a few hours ago, and wanted to give it to you while it still has that New Tech Smell."

Susan Sullivan has posed:
"Most planets?" Demona says as she comes up to examine the box, "not that intelligent. Can't even do simple math." She points at the box. "Is that what I think it is?"

Peter Parker has posed:
Spider-Man nods. "Yes, ma'am, it is. Let me unpack it for you."

He opens the box, taking each item out one at a time. A set of Bluetooth earbuds. A thin choker necklace. A set of thin gloves. A contact-lens case with a USB cable coming out of the back.

"You use the case to recharge the contact lenses using magnetic induction," Spidey said helpfully. "If you have your own gloves, the sensors can be detached and place in the gloves you prefer."

Susan Sullivan has posed:
"Neat!" Demona says. She takes off her hat and puts her new earbuds in her ears. "Do they need to sync to anything?" she asks. She undoes her fingerless gloves and stuffs them in her hoodie pocket to take up the thin gloves, feeling the fabric. "And will these let me climb walls like you guys do?"

Peter Parker has posed:
Spidey shakes his head. "No, but they perform a different function. Are you able to put in the contacts yourself, or do you need help?"

Susan Sullivan has posed:
Demona raises an eyebrow. "I think I'm going to pass," she says. She takes off her mask and comes to sit near where Peter had sat. "Tempting as it is for you to touch me, I really don't want to lead myself on. My heart still tries to beat when you're around. I don't need to keep teasing myself." She takes her time and uses her telekinesis to get the contacts into her eyes. She blinks a few times and says. "Will these help me see when I'm starving?"

Peter Parker has posed:
Spidey nods. "They shouldn't restrict your normal or supernatural vision in any way. If you also want to avoid drawing attention to your eye color, I can also make them colored contacts. Okay. Put on the choker necklace, and it should automatically turn on once the clasp is secured."

Susan Sullivan has posed:
Demona picks up the necklace. "This does not mean you're collaring me," she insists toward Spider-Man. She puts the collar on herself after making that clear, then does up the clasp. "Okay, what do I do, now?" she asks.

Peter Parker has posed:
Spider-Man grins, and then everything changes.

Well, visually.
An opaque green box appears in front of Demona's eyes, with <BOOTING...> appearing in the center. A series of modules begin initializing:

FACIAL_REC.LIB
DB.LIB
SMS.LIB
GOTHAM.LIB
METROPOLIS.LIB

...as the modules load, things begin to appear at the periphery of Demona's vision. A chat window at the bottom left, a compass at top center, a library book to the left...all opaque icons.

Susan Sullivan has posed:
"Man," Demona says, shaking her head. "I have been out of the loop for longer than I thought." She hops up and looks around. "So, what will these show me? You and your friends? Threats? Do I have Geordi's visor on, now?"

Peter Parker has posed:
Spidey chuckles, then points towards the large ferris wheel at Coney Island. "Look in that direction."

If Demona does so, she will see a pop-up window appear:

<Ferris Wheel - Coney Island, 700m.>

Susan Sullivan has posed:
"We're closer than I thought," she says. She furrows her brow. "Also somehow farther away." She turns to look at Spider-Man, curious what will appear.

Peter Parker has posed:
Apparently he has a sense of humor.

<SPIDER-MAN, AKA Webhead. Mostly Harmless.>

Susan Sullivan has posed:
Demona giggles. "Dork," she says. Her smile reaches her eyes. "It's surprising how clear these are. So...I assume I've got some kind of responsibilities," she adds.

Peter Parker has posed:
Spider-Man tilts his head, then says, "We don't have weekly meetings, or dues, or any kind of regulated anything. We're a loose organization of like-minded heroes who use the system to make our jobs easier. Coordinate with others during a crime-bust, use the comm system to ask for backup or help, or just to get in touch with someone you can talk to. The only responsibility you have to show is to yourself."

Susan Sullivan has posed:
Demona nods as she listens. "I hope you all behave like Disney Princesses," she says. Her eyes flit around as she tries to figure out the interface while waiting for Peter's reply.

Peter Parker has posed:
Spider-Man raised an eyebrow, but only said, "The book is the database. The spider-web is the link to the Internet. We got a good data rate now, 5G. If you want to feed in a search, you can either say it - Search Engine, then the keywords...or if you want to be silent..." He grinned. "Hold up both hands at chest level."

If Demona does, a virtual keyboard appears. She will find that she can type on it, and a tiny force-feedback circuit in each fingertip thups lightly when a key is "pressed."

Susan Sullivan has posed:
"Dope," she says. "Or...wait...is it lit? I heard some people saying something was lit, now. Is that the thing?" She shakes her head. "I'm sorry, Spidey, I've been out of it for a while. I'm only barely aware of what 5G even means."

Peter Parker has posed:
Spidey hmms. "It's the fastest cell-network protocol right now. As for the keyboard, you can configure the look, but no one can see it, only you can. It's one of the perks of augmented-reality interfaces."

Susan Sullivan has posed:
"I'll get it, eventually," Demona says. "I feel so old. I got nabbed when I was 20. I'll be 30 next month. In that time, I feel like the whole world is completely different."

Peter Parker has posed:
"State of the art stands still for no one, Demona. Don't worry. You'll get better with practice. The more you use it, the easier it gets." He looks around. "Now, if you want to set up waypoints to travel to, you can bring up a map from the mini-map in the upper right. You'll see the waypoints in your HUD."

Susan Sullivan has posed:
"Hardware's a lot easier for me," Demona says. She follows Spider-Man's instructions and gets a waypoint set up. "Neat!" she says. "How do I get rid of it?"

Peter Parker has posed:
"It'll disappear when you get within five meters. Or you can cancel it from the map." Spider-Man smiles. "The manual for the system is also in the database icon, in case you need help. Now, say 'Spider List.'"

Susan Sullivan has posed:
"Spider List," Demona says. She jumps a little as her vision is filled with text. "Oh!" she says. "Oh, that's not distracting at all. I'll make not not to do that while I'm driving."

Peter Parker has posed:
Spider-Man chuckles. "Would you believe Wonder Woman's on the approval list? She just has to get her rig registered."

Susan Sullivan has posed:
"Rig?" Demona asks. "Is...is that what you call the gloves earbuds contacts setup?" she continues.

Peter Parker has posed:
Spidey nods, sitting down on the bench again. "Yep. But it's all home-made. Nothing traceable. Generic earbuds, bought wholesale. The rest I dumpster-dove for. You've seen the lab. I can make just about anything down there now."

Susan Sullivan has posed:
Demona nods. "I trust you," she says. "I figure you've got more to lose on this one than I do."

Peter Parker has posed:
Spider-Man chuckles. "It has the benefit of being totally off-book. No account to trace, no signal to find. Totally stealthed. And if someone did find it...we can switch the signal in five minutes. So no one is going to follow it back to you."

Susan Sullivan has posed:
"Nice," Demona says. She floats and moves around a bit. "Okay, gotta figure out how to..." She finally gets the waypoint cleared out. "There we go," she says. "Okay, I gotta get out of here. It's really dry in here." She points finger guns at Spider-Man. "Also, need to go de-crush for a bit. The skin-tight getup is working for me. Maybe we can foil a robbery together, sometime. Or, you know, catch a movie or something."

Peter Parker has posed:
Spider-Man chuckles. "There's a mob bank in Midtown I was planning to upset in two weeks. Let's go with that."
