Security Issues
Date of Scene: 25 October 2021
Location: Lobby - GIRL Headquarters
Synopsis: After a few surprising revelations during the security screening, Demona receives a tour and firmly expresses her desire to be part of G.I.R.L.
Cast of Characters: Nadia Pym-van Dyne, Susan Sullivan

Nadia Pym-van Dyne has posed:
After the meeting in the park, an invitation was extended to visit the GIRL HQ on the Pym Technologies campus. An appointment was later set and the day has arrived, though it is likely that neither party quite anticipate the complications that lie ahead.

Nadia is waiting in the Lobby of the GIRL building, dressed in her usual style with the addition of a white lab coat allowed to hang open and worn like a cape. She has actually pried herself away from the lab to await today's visitor just inside the entrance.

Susan Sullivan has posed:
Demona follows instructions to the letter. She takes off her gas mask and hat as well before entering. She quickly recognizes Nadia. Smiling and waving, she quickly realizes she's being scanned. "Oh!" she says, freezing in her tracks. "Okay," she accepts and waits for the scans to finish.

Nadia Pym-van Dyne has posed:
"Sorry!" Nadia apologizes, genuinely, because almost nobody actually likes being scanned. "It's security protocols. We have some really advanced equipment here and can't be too careful." Nadia is clearly expecting this to go like any other scan.

The first sign something is amiss comes when the rearmost guard from the building's internal security stands up and begins tapping something into a tablet. Moments later the two Pym Technologies security personnel seated near the second scanner get to their feet. "Ma'am, can we ask you to step into the scanner over here, we just need to confirm something that seems off in the initial reads from the entryway."

"What?" Nadia turns towards the security guard with a surprised expression and then back to Demona, "You're not a super villain right?" She asks not quite sure what is going on. But it wouldn't be the first time someone tried to break in or even succeeded in doing so.

Susan Sullivan has posed:
"Oh!" Demona says, pulling out a fully custom multi-tool. She holds it upright and visible in her hand to the guards. "I'm not a supervillain. It's just my multi-tool. It doesn't have a knife on it. It's just a bit of a mini-toolkit I made. It's less dangerous than a normal philips head screwdriver." She does, however, step into the scanner as requested.

Nadia Pym-van Dyne has posed:
One of the Pym Technologies security guards hands Nadia a tablet while Demona steps into the second scanner and as the new more detailed evaluation comes in, she just sort of stares at it for a moment. They're probably lucky Natasha is not around at the moment. "Let me handle this, no reports until I'm done." The security guard seems about to protest but Nadia just puts a hand on his shoulder. "Trust me, besides I'm in charge anyway."

"It's not your multi-tool." Nadia says walking over to stand outside the large glass tube that is the second scanning chamber. "I've never seen anything like this. You don't have a heartbeat and your body temperature is barely above room temperature, from everything I know about biology you should be dead. Yet somehow you are still breathing and have at least minimal production of bodily fluids. What's really strange though is I've never seen a bio-electric field, yours is several times stronger than an average human's. What's going on? What are you?" Her tone isn't accusatory, but rather dripping with curiosity.

Susan Sullivan has posed:
"I'm," Demona starts, then hesitates. Her actual nature is so much more complex than what turned her into this. She has risen above that state. "I don't know how to answer that," she says. "I was once a Jiangshi. There is no other Jiangshi like me. As a human may ascend to a greater form, so have I. I retain my self, I regularly purge the evil from within me, and I do everything I can to stay one with nature." She shrugs. "I used to be Jiangshi. Now, I am unique."

Nadia Pym-van Dyne has posed:
"Ooookay." Nadia nods listening and glancing at the tablet again. One of these days she is really going to have to open some more mythology books. "What's a Jiangshi? Is it like a mutant? I mean either way you don't seem hostile. But like I was saying before, we have to be really careful checking things out because there are some sensitive and dangerous things in this building."

Susan Sullivan has posed:
Demona shakes her head. "It's not a mutation," she says. "But you're right. I'm not hostile. I make very, very sure I'm not in a position to hurt anyone." She holds up her gas mask. "That's part of why I wear this." She looks around. "Is this going to count against me?" she asks Nadia.

Nadia Pym-van Dyne has posed:
Nadia is quiet for a moment as the gears in her brain whir round and round, "I mean, I can't exactly claim completely normal human physiology myself and I don't think Ghost Spider can either, and one of our members, my Great Niece, she's pretty great, is a Synthezoid, and another is a Quantum Intelligence, so probably not. But we are going to need to try and understand it. Unknowns make things complicated for security." Security she says, but it's obvious she really wants to know the unknown as well purely for the sake of knowing. Such is her insatiable curiosity about the world.

Susan Sullivan has posed:
"Well, I can't explain it, scientifically," Demona says. "Actually, I'd be really interested to know, myself. I just had this happen to me, then fought tooth and nail to become more and better than I was." She slips her pocket toolbox back into her black jeans. "There's plenty of qi flowing, here. I'm not in danger of starving, right now."

Nadia Pym-van Dyne has posed:
"Qi like the tea? No wait that's Chai." Asian mysticism is definitely not Nadia's forte. She may be able to bend space and time to her will but the intricacies of Yin, Yang, and Li are completely lost on her. "Well, if you want it explained scientifically you've come to the right place! Actually Ghost Spider may be the one to talk to about that." She mentally makes a note to talk to Gwen about her identity and this girl, since she has revealed it to the current GIRL members but Demona doesn't seem to know it. "She is a genius when it comes to genetics and biology. Cait.." She corrects herself. "Dr. Fairchild is also someone we can have talk to you. She has done a lot of work with understanding different manifestations of super powers. She is kind of a science advisor for us. The alternative biometrics may be an issue for some of the security systems though, we'll have to issue you an alternate device if you decide after all of this that this is still what you want to do." She can easily see how it might be a bit much or could be intimidating to some.

The scanning chamber's glass door slides open again so Demona can leave as Nadia scrolls through some more data on her tablet. "I hope you don't mind too much, Natasha insists on very thorough background checks. We don't really do secret identities here, not within the organization anyway, some members have them outside of it. Though that's another reason for all of the security, there's a lot of important secrets that need to be kept. Your real name is Susan Sullivan?" She asks as if confirming their data.

Susan Sullivan has posed:
"Well," Demona says as she steps through the scanner, hesitating as her old name is used. "As long as it REMAINS secret, I'm good. It's not really THAT secret, I guess. I have a social security number and driver's license. Low security stuff that won't generate much scrutiny or raise many alarms. I don't have a death certificate on file," she concludes. She nods. "Yes, that was my name. When the Jiangshi attacked me in China, I had to spend long enough there that I was declared missing. My parents think I'm dead. My Facebook was turned into a memorial."

Nadia Pym-van Dyne has posed:
Nadia nods her head slowly, "You should be careful about using your driver's liscense and social security number if you don't want to be found. As someone who was trained in espionage from a very early age I can tell you that is one of the first things that get checked when looking for someone." Apparently she had an /interesting/ childhood, there's nothing about espionage in the public record. But the way she says it is completely offhand and casual, genuine advice. "Though Vivian could probably make those disappear and even create new ones if you ask her nicely." Which would be very illegal... She gives a light shrug. "Anyway, yes. We keep our members secrets."

She stops and thinks. "Anyway, we can deal with a biometric security device later. For now we can at least see the meeting room and the general use labs. I mean that's why you're here!" She grins and pushes past the Pym Technologies security guards who are pretty sure they should report something but seemingly hesitate to cross the girl that is probably the future CEO of the company should Janet decide to step down. Nadia pauses to have a quiet word with the internal GIRL security officer as well, likely convincing her not to go report things for the time being either.

"Come on!" Nadia calls back to the other young woman motioning her over towards the elevators. "Let's go!"

Susan Sullivan has posed:
Demona follows Nadia, speed-walking to catch up to her, her feet definitely leaving the floor at one point. She glances around at the guards and just...decides not to be precious about her secrets, anymore. She lets go and lets herself float off the floor. Following with a posture like a ghost, she's able to catch up to the living woman with less apparent effort. She pushes herself down so her feet touch the ground as she catches up with Nadia. "So," she tries once she's perambulating again, "am I in, then?"

Nadia Pym-van Dyne has posed:
Nadia hits the button for the elevator and it whisks them up to the second floor, which opens up into what appears to be a large meeting space and command center. "If you are interested in joining us, then we can start working out the remaining issues." She says stepping into the large open space surrounded by screens and dominated by a giant roundtable. "We can work out some preliminary access to certain areas of the building for the time being, but I'd like you to get checked out by Ghost Spider and Dr. Fairchild before we go further than that if that is okay with you?"

With that said she gestures around the space. "This is where we conduct our general meetings and do presentations and things." She doesn't seem to feel the need to go into too much detail on that front as the space largely speaks for itself.

Susan Sullivan has posed:
"Okay," Demona says, looking around the meeting room. She doesn't mention how excited she is to get to bring some of her ideas to the think tank. She tucks her hands into her hoodie pocket. "This place is amazing," she confesses.

Nadia Pym-van Dyne has posed:
Nadia grins. "Okay, one last stop for today."

Up the elevator they go once more to the nexxt floor up before the doors slide open again revealing a foyer with branching hallways lined with windows. The space leads to all manner of laboratories, work spaces, and fabrication areas for fields as varied as materials science, quantum physics, molecular biology, chemistry, and many others. If it's science or engineering, there's probably a space for it. There are also personal lab spaces that are more enclosed, and in some cases locked down, than the common work spaces, areas where the occupants have brought their own equipment to furnish them.

"Behold! The labs!" Nadia steps out of the elevator playing tour guide for the last stop. "We have a lot of common areas that anyone can use. If you have specific needs that aren't otherwise available, we can probably get you a space of your own that you can outfit if you have your own specialized equipment."

Susan Sullivan has posed:
Demona's eyes go wide as she enters the labs. "Wow!" she says. "This stuff is amazing!" She clearly wants to rush around and touch everything, but she doesn't. She's calm...well, mostly. She does float up off the floor to peek farther around the labs and such.
