Cast of Characters: Nadia Pym-van Dyne, Victor Stone

Nadia Pym-van Dyne has posed:
Nadia Pym-van Dyne is a busy girl, a very busy girl, perhaps the busiest of girls, a veritable busy bee. At seventeen she is a Titan, a second string Avenger, a SCIENCE! consultant to the Outsiders and occasionally SHIELD, and the leader of her own SCIENCE! Think Tank and Research Collective. It is amazing that she actually finds the time to do everything that she needs to do, let alone everything that she wants to do and in the latter case often she doesn't.

Sometimes though you have to make time and particularly for her own scientific interests, making time for her experiments is very much a form of self-care for Nadia. So it is that all of today's responsibilities have been summarily canceled, most of her comms have been turned off, and she has ensconced herself within G.I.R.L.'s laboratory facilities working on god knows what.

The work space in question has had its central area completely cleaned out except for a pedestal and on the pedestal is a very small car that looks a lot like a Tesla Model S Roadster. Whether it is a hot wheels toy or a real car is completely up in the air when the Pyms are involved. Currently Nadia is standing a comfortable distance away looking at the readouts on a nearby console and having some manner of energy beam apparatus zap at the vehicle to no apparent outward results.

Victor Stone has posed:
Victor Stone, too, is... well, maybe not /as/ busy as Nadia, being merely a Titan and someone who goes with GIRL on missions to other planets, and there's the S.T.A.R. labs of course. But being one of the older Titans is enough work all by itself.

So it's something of a personal thing, to get out of Titans tower and come to see the GIRL headquarters, which he really hasn't seen properly. He comes in through security and looks around in proper appreciation for a place of science and gadgetry and experimentation.

When he finally reaches the area where Nadia is working, he stops to peer at the car, his mechanical eye zooming in to pick up on the specs. /Is/ that a real car? It could be, with Nadia!

Either way, he comments, "That looks /really/ cool, Nadia. What're you working on?"

Nadia Pym-van Dyne has posed:
There is a startled 'eep' followed by an "Ow." as Nadia hits her head on something before powering down the energy beam. Goggled eyes turn to look at Vic before she pulls them up on to her forehead. "Oh! Hi Vic!"

There are not many outsiders cleared to essentially just walk into the GIRL labs but Victor Stone is one of those few after the time he and Nadia have spent working closely together in the Titans laboratories.

"This?" She asks glancing towards the odd equipment setup and very tiny vehicle. "Just something I've been meaning to work on for months but never seemed to find the time. That," She points to the car on the pedestal. "Was my birthday present from my Dad. In typical Dad fashion he made it into a puzzle though. At the time he had recently run into issues of radiation altering the efficacy of Pym Particles. She-Hulk almost got stuck really really small for awhile. He bought me this really cool Tesla car for my birthday, but shrank it and used the same process that had been afflicting She-Hulk on it, so it resists regular Pym Particles. Which is actually similar to what some villains from NOWHERE managed to do, negating my particle beams, when they attacked here several months ago. So I've been trying to figure out how to restore the car. Or rather I already know it could be restored through brute force the same way Dad restored She-Hulk with a huge amount of power overwhelming the gamma radiation, but I am trying to find a more elegant solution, there has to be a method that isn't the equivalent of hitting it with a sledgehammer." When it comes to SCIENCE! she really can just talk and talk and taaaaaaalk.

Victor Stone has posed:
Vic shifts the lanyard around his neck--there's not much of anywhere to put a normal security badge on his chrome form--and says, "Oh, /that's/ why none of the alarms went off when I tried to come in here. Security here is something /else/." He grins; he's mostly joking, considering it /was/ fairly easy to get through.

He keeps peering at the car. "Ohh, okay, that explains why it looks like... a normal car, then. Did you ever figure out how the raditation was affecting the Pym particles? Or is that part of the puzzle--figuring out why things got stuck small, so you can figure out how to... re-embiggen them?" He knows 're-embiggen' isn't a word, but it's kind of fun to say.

Nadia Pym-van Dyne has posed:
Nadia smiles brightly, clearly glad to be asked, if there is one thing she loves talking about it is SCIENCE! that she is working on. "Different kinds of radiation seem to effect them in different ways. Gamma seems to make them more difficult to manipulate, resisting any changes from other outside particles. With this as a starting point, I began trying all sorts of different kinds of radiation to see what the effects might. This one," She points to the energy beam that she was bombarding the car with. "Seems promising. It emits beams of Ionic energy and so far seems to have an opposite effect to the Gamma radiation, making the particles even easier to manipulate than before. If it holds, this could have all kinds of implications. It could revolutionize the use of Pym Particles!"

Victor Stone has posed:
Vic shifts his attention to the readouts on the console. "Ohhh, I get it! I wonder why it works that way...?" Because of course, there's 'this does a thing' and then there's 'this is why this does a thing,' the two main forks of SCIENCE!

"So, okay, with the ionic energy could you, say... make the car /bigger/ than normal? Because /that/ would be really cool. GIRL could have giant flying cars!" Yes, yes, Nadia's whole thing is being smaller, Cyborg likes things big.

Nadia Pym-van Dyne has posed:
Nadia shakes her head. "Increases in size are already possible, just look at my father's stint as Giant Man. I just rarely used them in the past because I don't know it didn't really feel right at the time." Probably something to do with growing up in the confined spaces of a Soviet Bunker.

"What it seems like it might be able to do is enhance or reduce particular effects of Pym Particles, like only size without the increased density. But it still needs more testing." She scrolls through some data appearing on her tablet from the recent tests now that GIRL's Quantum computer mainframe has finished calculating it. "As for the why, I'm still not sure, figuring that out might require a bit of a field trip to observe the reactions up close in person."

Victor Stone has posed:
Vic nods thoughtfully. "Maybe it's something like... gamma radiation hits harder, over-excites the particles, but the ionic energy isn't as... it doesn't excite them as much? Like it brings them to a simmer instead of a boil." He's speculating, just thinking out loud.

"So size without increased density... would that affect how you're able to do things as Waspette? Like, you wouldn't be as strong, right? Or... oh, could you get bigger without /reducing/ the density...?"

Nadia Pym-van Dyne has posed:
Shakes a finger vaguely in Vic's direction. "You might be on to something there. Or maybe... I should talk to Ying. We developed some designs while we were in the Red Room that paralyzed Pym Particles, though she later perfected it after I escaped. Not Tech I usually even mention for obvious reasons, but there might be some connection to the paralysis phenomena."

Pulling the goggles down again, she turns back to the panel that controls the Ionic Radiation beam and makes a few adjustments before firing it up again. "Mmm I'm not sure, I still need to figure out exactly what characteristics can be isolated. But what if for example I could use my strength and density I get when small, without being small? Maybe I could be like Donna or Cait! Though I'm still not sure whether that'd even be possible. But altering size in isolation seems like it is at least, so maybe other elements are too. For the moment though the Gamma and Ionic radiation seem to be polar.." She hits a button, there is a crunching sound and suddenly in front of them is a full size Tesla Model S Roadster and a crushed pedestal. "..opposties. One weakens the other and vice versa."

Victor Stone has posed:
Vic takes a step back as the car becomes full size--not that he really needed to, he was well away from any danger, but it's a good instinct to have in the lab. Step /away/ from the crunching sounds.

"It's just interesting that they act as polar opposites that way. But yeah, wow, that'd be... /really/ useful, if you could change the other things and not the size! Without the particle beams, of course."

After a pause: "Oh, that reminds me! I was fiddling with some of the stuff we brought back from Rann, and I'm thinking of maybe seeing if we can make a smaller kind of Zeta beam transmitter. For portable teleportation, you know?"

Nadia Pym-van Dyne has posed:
Nadia steps around the car after shutting down the beam, walking back over to where Vic is. "Oooh that would be interesting. Or depending on the range have you considered quantum entanglement? Establishing entangling bridges between photons? Or maybe they could be combined somehow. Or what if you made a localized wormhole!" Nadia is just full of ideas, how close any of them are to fruition is another story.

"We're actually working on building a Zeta facility in the basement. I can take you down and show you later. So that we can travel to Rann and back more easily." She grins. "Teleporting, definitely beats walking."

Victor Stone has posed:
Victor nods. "Yeah! That's some of what I'm working through, like... something shorter-range, maybe? Or longer-range? I don't know, it's all kind of at a beginning stage, but I'll definitely keep you in the loop with what I figure out."

He grins. "Think the Zeta facility will be done in time for the Expo? The people from Rann could visit for it!"

Nadia Pym-van Dyne has posed:
Nadia nods several times, "That's really cool! I honestly wish I had more time to focus on my own work, somehow I've gotten tangled up in a million obligations, though I wouldn't trade this place for anything and the Titans are basically family and the Avengers literally are family, maybe less consulting work going forward. If there's anything I can do to help out though, just let me know or oooh! You could ask Val! I bet the Fantastic Four databases have something useful!"

She gets a wry grin at the mention of the Zeta facility, Rann, and the Expo. "Oh, if I have my way Alanna will not only be there, she'll be part of it!"
