Evening Discoveries
Date of Scene: 27 October 2021
Location: Carter-Sousa Home - Long Island
Synopsis: Daniel and Peggy have an evening at home and miss some obvious signs.
Cast of Characters: Peggy Carter, Daniel Sousa

Peggy Carter has posed:
It wasn't exactly late. They've had far later evenings and far more exhausting weeks in the past. Lane actually let Daniel out before 8 at night, so they mutually decided the drive back to Long Island was worth it. Despite the early hour, though, Peggy ended up falling asleep mid conversation on him halfway back to the house. It's not that strange, a comfortable tradition between them, just not normally this late at night.

Odd or not, her head's been lulling against his arm on the center arm rest since about halfway through the drive. When he pulls up to their house, she doesn't even rouse at the slowing of the car. With night having fully fallen (Autumn means the sun doesn't stretch all the way past 8) it's a warming reflection of how they used to drive up to home at midnight, sixty some years ago.

Daniel Sousa has posed:
Even Daniel is feeling the effects of the long day and encroaching darkness, but manages to stay awake long enough to get he and Peggy safely home. Turning off the ignition and collecting the keys he smiles at his dozing wife and leans over to kiss the top of her head. "Hey wake up sleeping beauty, we're home," he says gently, still smiling.

The car smells faintly of take out, a bag of Chinese food collected along the drive home sitting on the back seat.

Peggy Carter has posed:
There's a slight startle from her -- she hadn't been planning on even falling asleep -- when he kisses her forehead and she realizes they are stopped. She stirs a bit more and turns her head to press the most gentle of kisses against the edge of his jaw before her pulls away. "Mm... Sorry. I... don't suppose I realized how tired I was." Even if she slept a full and good night the night before. Sometimes, it hits you.

And then something else hits her. The scent of that Chinese food. It comes with a minor wave of nausea, but she somewhat too-quickly opens the door and steps out into the crisp autumn air, taking a deep breath of that scent instead of the smell of food. "I...I do suppose we didn't have dinner..."

Daniel Sousa has posed:
"It happens," Daniel smiles, "Looked like you needed it," he says before the smile fades as Peggy makes a break for fresh air and a settled stomach. "You alright Peg?" he calls after her. He opens his door and steps out to look at her over the roof of their car, thoughts of food momentarily forgotten.

Peggy Carter has posed:
Most anyone else would have missed it. Peggy is very good at hiding those microexpressions of her, even if they come in the moment as she has to clamp them down immediately. But he's her husband. They have been close entirely too many years. He knows her better than anyone in the world. So, the fact that he caught that moment of nausea on her face, even across the car, isn't surprising. She gives him a half smile over the roof, "Fine, fine... I simply didn't expect to be greeted by your aftershave and Chinese takeout the moment I woke from sleep. It was... a surprise." All of that is true. Still, she normally loves Chinese.

She then leads the way to the front door, getting the keys and alarm system since he's carrying the food. She's gotten comfortable enough in their house again that she needn't turn the lights on until she gets to the kitchen and flickers on that warm overhead light for him to finish bringing in things from the car. She still looks half asleep.

Daniel Sousa has posed:
It took time to hone that ability to read Peggy like Daniel could, which only just evened things out, she'd always been good at reading him. "You sure that's it? Not coming down with something are you? If you are don't worry I'm not going to snitch to medical, but we can hang onto the food for tomorrow night if you need."

He follows her inside, putting the bag on the counter as the lights flicker on overhead, he takes the moment to look at Peggy then in the full light of the kitchen, looking for signs that anything is truly amiss.

Peggy Carter has posed:
In their kitchen, Peggy looks like she might be faintly off. Not overly pale, but not quite her normal rosy cheeked, bright eyed self. But she's also certainly still blinking some sleep out of her eyes and that might just be exhaustion. She, without thinking about it, goes to pick up the kettle and put it on the stove. Tea is a necessity, if nothing else, in this house.

"Hmm? Coming down with something? No, surely not. Not even a sniffle. Just... Suppose it's been a longer week than I thought." She smiles to him across her shoulder.

Daniel Sousa has posed:
Daniel notes the slightly pale complexion and the rest but a busy week and sleep debt are easy explanations to buy. "Great," he says seeming relieved. "Cuz I was really looking forward to the Chinese food," he teases as he goes and gets out some bowls for them. "We can eat up then have an earlyish night, and if things get really serious maybe break away from work for a part of the weekend just to stay home and recharge. Actually lets do that last part anyhow..." he says adding the last after a moment's thought and a smile.

Peggy Carter has posed:
There is a moment when he starts pulling out the food again and the heaviest, most spiced scent comes across the air that the vague nausea of the car hits her once more. Peggy pauses, leaning her hip against the edge of the counter next to the stove, not quite coming for her dinner yet. "Maybe just... a touch of the fried rice for me tonight. Or just soup. I'm... more tired than I thought." She admits to him.

Then he's suggesting that, just possibly, they take the weekend off. That brings another smile to her features, "...A vacation at home? I can't say it's...the worst idea. With it getting cold out, the temptation to just stay curled up in bed is... Great."

Daniel Sousa has posed:
Daniel nods, "Sure thing," he says about the food getting her a bit of rice and a bit of the soup as well, figuring she could pick or be tempted by both. "And I figured you'd like that, we'd only have to get ourselves out of bed to answer the door on Sunday, unless we just want to put the bowl of candy out front and make it first come first serve." Daniel was a fan of halloween especially handing out the candy and seeing the costumes, he even got the full sized chocolate bars for his first halloween of the 21st century.

Peggy Carter has posed:
"Oh god...that is this weekend, isn't it? That... explains all the candy." Peg gives a look over to the bag he's already bought and stowed in the big bowl on the dining buffet. She was going to ask but her mind hadn't remembered it was there until this moment. "Well, I think we can manage that. Maybe we'll even dress up like two secret agents..." Peggy offers him with a little wink.

Then the kettle is finally going and she turns to pour out some tea to steep. She grabs the ginger bags down from the cupboard. They might be stale by now, she hasn't wanted ginger tea in ages, but it used to always be what she drank when her stomach was feeling off with the kids -- Kid, only Michael here. But that's what her hand reaches for.

Daniel Sousa has posed:
"Yep, almost forgot until I looked at a calendar the other day," Daniel says before chuckling. "Sounds easy enough," he says of dressing up as secret agents. "The real challenge will be getting out of bed I think," he smiles as he spoons his own food into his bowl. Glancing back to watch Peggy pick the tea, "Not your usual tonight?" he asks, though she said she did want to sleep and her usual blend made that difficult most nights.

Peggy Carter has posed:
"Mm, no. Lunch isn't... quite agreeing with me. But tea and rice should do the trick, then we'll settle into bed and be fine by morning." Peggy still gives him her best, utterly put together smile. There is no idea that something is wrong in her head other than stress and exhaustion from work. Even if she'd been better lately, since some amazing science turned back the clock.

She carries her tea over to him and nods towards the couch, "Shall we sit somewhere comfortable? I'm almost tempted for dinner in bed, but it's not *quite* that late."

Daniel Sousa has posed:
Daniel makes no argument about her claims, more than happy to believe them if it meant they got to spend the weekend together. "Tea and rice it is then," he says. "And who says it has to be late to have dinner in bed?" he counters with a smile. "Besides there's nobody but to two of us here these days, so, there's nobody to judge us," he says. "How about it?"

Peggy Carter has posed:
That makes her properly laugh, a genuine splash of surprise on her features, but she's not complaining. "...This is ridiculous, it's not even 9 at night. But... If *you're* certain..." Peggy isn't going to complain about the idea. Getting out of her clothes, stretching out in bed with tea and a bit of food? "Mm. makes me wish Benny Goodman was still on." She admits, scooping up her bowl of rice in her free hand and then leading the way down the hall towards the master bedroom. They never even bothered to turn on the living room lights.

Daniel Sousa has posed:
Danile laughs along with her, "We deserve to spoil ourselves a little bit don't we? Especially after a hard week." He goes to get the tray they use from time to time when eating in bed and loads it up with his food before following Peggy down the hall to the master bedroom, once there the food is set down and Daniel begins to pull off his work clothes, putting each piece away carefully as was his habit unless other matters make it more urgent.

Peggy Carter has posed:
The sight of the tray makes her smile. It's the same one they've used since they moved in, the holder of many breakfasts in bed and a few late night snacks. Once more, it's brought up more happy memories than sad ones she was trying to forget. But then the scent of food comes by and she's immediately turning away. There's frustration on her face, at her own body. She buries herself in her ginger tea for a moment, taking a deep breath and a small sip, before she sets it down on her side of the bed.

Then she's following suit, beginning to slip of her shoes, jacket, the buttons of her blouse. "...I promise that it's not your food or what you chose, darling. Please eat even if my stomach seems to be... disagreeing with the concept, alright?" She knew he was excited for dinner. She *wanted* him to eat.

Daniel Sousa has posed:
Definitely a lot of happy memories with the tray, but Daniel is soon frowning as Peggy is turning away from the food. "You sure you're just tired Peg?" Daniel asks looking at her with a worried expression. "Seems to me you got a stomach bug or something."

He sits putting the food down on his side of the table. "I'll eat and if you change your mind about things let me know," he says. "Got plenty for us both if you're up to it."

Peggy Carter has posed:
Skirt pulled off, she tosses it aside in a little pile across the back of her desk chair, along with her jacket and shirt. That alone is a good show that she's not feeling near 100 percent. Peggy always hangs up her tailored clothing at the end of the day, unless she's wrecked. She then walks around to him, wearing just her slip and stockings. She stares up into his eyes, "I... am willing to admit I may have a touch of a stomach bug. Something I ate in the food court, I'm certain. But you are starving and you better not hold off on my account, alright? I'll eat if my stomach settles. I promise." She leans over, kissing the corner of his mouth.

Daniel Sousa has posed:
Daniel smiles wryly as Peggy looks up at him like that, "You're cheating looking up at me like that," he tells her fondly. He recieves the kiss with a widening smile before he nods. "Alright, I'll eat," he promises as he moves to the bed reaching out to pull Peggy along with him. "As long as you lay down and rest."

Peggy Carter has posed:
A little, almost pouting smile pulls across her mostly unpainted lips. He's the only one that gets to see her like this, half dressed and without make up, and she's still making those little faces she knows drive his heart soft. "Yes, well, I have to ensure you eat *somehow*. Goodness knows you don't always do it yourself." Peggy teases him with words that she knows he's directly said to her before. He is the one chasing them for food most often, she's just being a flirtatious hippocrite now.

One more quick kiss and she lets him go, pulling off her slip over her head and bra off before reaching for her most comfortable cotton night gown. "Rest, I can promise... No more work tonight. Nothing is that important." She assures him, climbing into the bed.

Daniel Sousa has posed:
"Ha," Daniel barks a laugh before leaning in to kiss his wife as she teases him. "Riiight, I'm the one that needs to be chased down to remember to eat," he says as he gets comfy in bed in just his boxers tray pulled over his lap as he watches her undress then join him in bed. "You know," he remarks bringing some noodles to his lips. "A show like that might get me to forget about food all together," he says before taking a bite. Despite their years of marriage he is still very much attracted to his wife.

Peggy Carter has posed:
Settling into the bed, Peggy stretches out fully on her side after she scoops her mug of ginger tea up. She rests it in one hand, on the mattress between their pillows, secured by her palm so it doesn't tumble onto the sheets. Her other arm curls up beneath her pillow, slightly propping herself up as she lays on her side, getting comfortable. Now mostly horizontal, her eyes already look tired again. She lets her toes idly travel across his ankle, but not in a seductive way. More simply a touch of fondness.

"Mm... Darling, I love you incredibly and you may be able to rouse me enough for such distractions tonight... *may be*. Right now, I have a goal of keeping my eyes open long enough to finish this tea."

Daniel Sousa has posed:
Daniel smiles, leaning over to press a kiss to Peggy's lips. "I figured that's how things were, you just have a habit of putting those kinds of thoughts in my head," he says before going back to his noodles. "Anyhow if you drink your tea and get some rest we can call this night a win. We've got a lifetime for distractions after all." Even weeks gone by since they fixed his time problem, the idea of the unmapped years ahead of them still gave him a thrill.

Peggy Carter has posed:
"Mm... part of me still thinks I should be taking advantage of every last second we have together. And it is not that I do not *wish* to put you on your back, darling, but..." Peggy gives him a wry, slightly apologetic smile, "God. I can't even say I'm not as young as I used to be. I don't know. This week has utterly run me down, it seems." She takes a good sip of her tea and a deep breath to follow, it's biting scent far more settling to her stomach than anything. "I suppose we had to stop at some point. Taking a few moments to catch our breath and that's when you realize just how tired you are."

Daniel Sousa has posed:
Daniel chuckles. "Don't worry Peg, I know if you were feeling better you'd definitely put me on my back right now," he assures her. "And it makes sense it's been go, go, go for awhile now, only makes sense our sleep debt would come due now that things have slowed a little. It's like the War, that first bit of R&R comes up and you make all sorts of plans, then you end up spending the whole time sleeping because everything catches up. We'll take the weekend off like we planned and get ourselves sorted out."

Peggy Carter has posed:
"You are... entirely too good to me, you know that?" Peggy asks softly. She then finishes her tea with a good gulp, setting it aside with already sleep-slowed motions. "Eat your dinner... wake me in the morning. We... we'll discuss the weekend then." She murmurs half asleep. She manages to roll over up and up enough to kiss his cheek before she sinks back down into her pillow. She'll be asleep within moments, breathing slow and deep. She must have needed it. She's not even finished pulling up the covers across her shoulders.

Daniel Sousa has posed:
"Not possible, but thanks," Daniel replies. "You deserve all of it," he tells her. "And sounds like a plan," he tells her moving the tray aside so he can lean over and kiss her cheek before pulling the cover up over her shoulders. "Love you and I'll see you tomorrow, Peggy," he says in a near whisper with a fond smile on his lips.
