Bitrun Part 1: Copper in the Narrows
Date of Scene: 04 November 2021
Location: The Narrows, Gotham
Synopsis: Bitrun robs the wrong person and the Birds of Prey are there to pick up the pieces. Bitrun is still missing but Tanaka Nobu will likely put a bounty on her head. Babs suggests Harper and Quake go with her to Japan to find out what it is Tanaka is really up to and why a legendary safe was keeping his secret server secure in the Narrows.
Cast of Characters: Barbara Gordon, Harper Row, Daisy Johnson

Barbara Gordon has posed:
<This is Oracle, suspicious electrical activity near you. Head to Washington NW 7114, an abandoned factory used to be owned by the Schwarner family. They use to make shoes about 50 years ago> Babs had instructed Harper <Tell me what you find>

What she finds are GCFD with three trucks and hoses on full blast. The inferno in the old building is intense and the bodies that have been pulled from the place are corpses not survivors. This is the place that the merry little chase Bitrun has given Daisy Johnson has ended too. For now at least.

Police cars are still pulling up and some detectives have arrived on scene, but the fire department is keeping them back for now. An ambulance is sitting idly on the corner of the street - there's no one to treat so far.

Harper Row has posed:
Having gotten the message though the Birds of Prey app provided by Oracle, Harper suits up quickly - including putting in the ear buds she was sent more than a month ago. She types a quick reply, <<Understood. Wearing your Sept gift,>> trusting Oracle to remember and/or deduce what she's referring to.

Bluebird takes to the rooftop 'expressway' to get to the indicated area and descretely connects to the electrial grid node that she knows the exact location of due to her uncostumed professional experience. She could likely scan for specifics faster than she is but as she is also keeping an alert eye on her surroundings its not /quite/ instantaneously figured out.

("Gotta keep this away from home, whatever this is,") Harper thinks to herself while reviewing reports and graphically represented logs of the local grid.

Daisy Johnson has posed:
Not all Inhumans come to their powers with an innate desire of wanting to help others, or belonging to a community. There are always outliers, those that break from the mold. Be it from their upbringing, or the powers they have or ..., maybe that's just how it was foretold. If one is to believe destiny at all. As for Daisy? She was still on the fence about all that but what she knows is that Bitrun needs to be stopped.

And that has brought her to Gotham tonight.

"Too late." She murmurs to herself, landing atop the building across from the burning inferno, jaw wrenched together. She isn't happy at all. Specially as Bitrun had been running the Secret Warriors in a nice little chase as of late, using their elusive powers of electricity to run into computers, or wiring. Sneaky git.

Yet Daisy was now in Gotham, and that meant she had allies she could count on. So a <beep> comes to the Birds of Prey comms, along with a written message, <<@DarkSkye calling on the Birds. Are you there @Oracle?>>

Barbara Gordon has posed:
Babs is watching video intently on her main monitor. The drone is quietly circling over head of the building on fire. What she was not expecting was a random chit chat from one of their more quiet members. An ally - DarkSkye aka Agent Johnson aka Quake. A small smile spreads across her features.

<<@DarkSkye it's been a while, how can we help>> Oracle replies as she listens for Bluebird's progress. And what a curious set of readouts she gets. The building on fire? there's a lot of heavy fibre optics going in to it to servers that are very dark now. There was a strange power spike not a few minutes before the fire.

Oracle rewinds some ATM footage from just before the fire started and notes a few people running from the building. They don't look like gangsters or mobsters. They're wearing safety hats and heavy gloves.

<Bluebird, we need eyes in the building. Looks like fire department is getting control of the situation. There's a server rack in there. It's probably destroyed now but we need to know who owns it> Babs' voices over the comms. She's not disguising it this time. After Bluebird met her the night when the mob tried to kill her she decided to be a tiiiiny bit more open with her.

Harper Row has posed:
Speaking and hoping that the earbuds have been activated, Harper says <"Understood,"> and sends a query though the app as she shuts down the apps showing the logs <<Proceeding to enter former inferno. @GlowingFriend,>> ass she's not yet confident that VOX will be picked up.

Harper descends from her rooftop access point and crosses an alley to the recently extinguished building and shoulders open a door that had been loosened by the heat warpinig its frame. Once in she asscends stairs to the floor that the server bank is located on per the floor plans Oracle dropped onto her screen along with the request.

Daisy Johnson has posed:
<<Tracking a rogue Inhuman that calls herself @Bitrun>> Informs Daisy, walking to the edge of the building and squatting down to take a look at the blazing inferno. She is dressed in an armored suit, dark blue and veeeeryyy similar to the making of a certain Daredevil's armor. Even if the color is different. On her head are a pair of slick-looking goggles, near-transparent and yellow and clearly technological, it continuing to feed her info about the fire even as she speaks up, <<And right now she decided to come to Gotham. I am at her latest crime scene, near some abandoned factory...>> a pause, <<Apparently belonged to the Schwarner family decades ago. But that's the thing, she never attacks randomly so she's up to something on your turf. Should we meet up?>>

The approaching Harper is first felt by Daisy and then finally seen, Quake turning her attention to that 'ping' that tells her someone is going *towards* that inferno. It's not hard to figure out that it must be, <<Think I see your @GlowingFriend>>

Daisy jumps down from the building, her powers coming to the fore as she eases herself down to the ground by way of those vibrational waves. She runs to catch up with Harper, "Maybe I can help." she tells her once they are within talking distance.

Barbara Gordon has posed:
The fire fighters have pushed in to the building and the inferno is dying down. Everything is hot and steaming inside. The side entrance is a good way in that isn't being watched right now. Because the only people who run in to a burning building are firefighters.. and birds apparently.

Babs watches the text from @DarkSyke on the other monitor and her eyebrows raise. The Bird app installed on the phone she gave to Daisy activates the voice channel and she says <Well if you're going in to help Bluebird it's best we all stay on the same page. Bluebird this is DarkSkye. DarkSyke this is Bluebird...>

Inside the building there is evidence of a smelting operation of some kind. Since the building was meant to be abandoned it's a sure bet that whatever is going on here is illegal. There's a lot of melted copper slag on the floor.

<So this @Bitrun is an Inhuman,> she says sayin git outload to make it real, <Who you've been chasing. What does she do? This building has a dark server rack in it and lots of fibre optics. We're trying to determine who owns it - whatever your Inhuman is up to it must have been related to that>

Harper Row has posed:
<"Hi Dark Sky,"> Harper says, pronouncing it as two words having not seen the spelling yet (no HUD possessed yet). <"Any chance you can do anything about the heat?"> she asks the other friend of Oracle as they asscend a set of stairs and approach the door behind which the server is located at.

Along the way from the street to the stairs, Bluebird's unslung her rifle and is carrying it in a cross-chest semi-ready position just on the off chance that there's a need for her electro-stun bullets... yeah, not likely but at least it makes her feel better in the situation.

Daisy Johnson has posed:
<Hello Bluebird. And just call me Quake> Daisy not exactly being the type to keep her identity a secret. Because really, after you show up on the news a few (many) times what's the point anymore? A glance around them as they go in. Going up the stairs is made quickly and she shakes her head at Harper. <Not the flames or the heat. But I can keep the building from falling on us> Small blessings!

<This certainly wasn't an abandoned factory.> She announces with a small frown, <Nothing pinging on what this place might be about?> she asks Oracle before actually addressing the question about Bitrun.

<She's a thief mostly. Can manipulate electricity, break into secure networks and use wiring and computers to travel about. So .., it's been hard to get a lock on her> She explains.

Nearing the door she pauses, hand on it and she focuses, using those vibrational senses to check on what might be on the other side of the door, or if the room might be filled with flames ready to spring at them! Though if nothing is detected she will nod, "It's safe, let's go."

Barbara Gordon has posed:
What lays beyond the door is not the typical server room one might expect. No. There is a safe in the middle of the room. The safe is in a farade cage. There is a thick bundle of fibre optics that connects to the cage and their laser light travels along a glass connector through microscopic holes in the side of the cage.

Inside the cage is the burnt up remains of a power generator that has a thick cable running in to the safe. The safe looks like something from the 1930s with heavy iron and ornate metal ornamentation. The whole thing is charred though. It's like the safe erupted in flame from the inside out. This room was definitely the source of the fire.

Inside the safe no doubt was once the computer servers they are interested in finding - but the mechanism for opening the safe is now completely melted locking its secrets away. The safe itself though is quite unique and curious. Who puts a computer server in a safe in a farade cage in an abandoned factory and connects it to the internet with that much bandwidth.

And Bitrun came here, went in there by passing all that physical security and all the digital security using her Inhuman abilities.

<No it's a mystery. Tell me what you see. Bluebird give me some video>

Harper Row has posed:
A quick and well practiced move leaves Bluebird's rifle slung across her back again after which she extracts the Outsider comm unit with the ease of a true and proud member of GenZ.

<"On it,"> Harper says as she activates the camera function of the device after first entering the BoP app Oracle had previously installed on the device. <"Should we try to force our way into the cage or safe?"> she asks, her tone of voice expressing uncertainty of Quake's or her own ability to actually do so.

Daisy Johnson has posed:
Daisy makes a quick assessment of the room, eyes narrowing. "This is not the kind of security that beatdown crooks normally have." she points out, "And that she broke through a faraday cage... this was something planned in advance."

She steps past the debris, a sleeve in front of her mouth to cover her breathing from the smoke while she watches it all with those AR goggles. Nifty SHIELD tech! Her other hand reaches up to press on a couple of buttons on the side of those goggles. "Uploading some info to you now." she tells through comms.

As for breaking in? She considers Harper's suggestion, approaching the vault and pointing one hand at it, focusing. Vibrational waves expand from all around the safe as she studies it. Weak points and what may still be inside. "I will try to figure out what may still be inside. There's always the chance she triggered security and the contents bursted in flames."

Eyes close and she takes in a breath, letting her own senses expand. One with the Universe.

Barbara Gordon has posed:
As Quake begins to probe the safe she finds that the door is sealed shut. Quaking it apart to get at what's inside is impossible. They'd need some really specialised equipment to break in to it now and what's inside? she can sense that it's server hardware and it's all very fried. There's no Inhuman in there though, Bitrun must have made it out before the place went up in flames.

Oracle watches the footage coming back to her and the extra feed from Quake. "Wow.. yeah you're not wrong. That's wild. Hang on..." she zooms in on some of the details. A quick search on the internet confirms it.

"That safe is the Rhinegold. One of four safes of legend. No one knows where they went only that a Japanese business man bought them all up. Tanaka Nobu. The man deals in bio-engineered viruses. His legitimate business front does medical research but word on the dark net is that he's in to some dark dark bio weapons too. If your Inhuman broken in to his computers, chances are she's just made an extremely dangerous enemy."

Harper Row has posed:
Showing her local focus with her question, Harper asks, <"How do you feel this will impact the people of Gotham, especially those residing in the Narrows, Oracle?"> as she continues to scan the room to allow the uber-hacker to make sure she has a good visual scan of everything.

Speaking more to Quake, Bluebird follows up with another question, <"Would this Bitrun be affected by electrical stun effects even?"> referring to stunguns and similar effects (like her electrical incapication bullets!).

Daisy Johnson has posed:
"Damn..." Quake says, re-opening her eyes and canting her head to the side, looking at the Rhinegold with a raised brow. "This thing is a work of art in the inside.." she says of what she discovered. It also seems to imply she can't open it, "Bio-engineered viruses..?" she doesn't like the sound of that at all. "So you're telling me Bitrun can be in the possession of a dangerous bio weapon?" she lets out a breath.

A quick analysis through the scans on her goggles seem to tell her there's no virus in the air though, which she informs the others, "Well, she didn't release it here if it's indeed a virus. Good. But we will have to dig deeper."

Her eyes then go to Harper, then to her gun, "She would, as long as the burst is powerful enough. Her power resides in electricity, but too much of it should short her out, even if temporarily. But might just be the time we need to take her down." a faint smile.

"So, seems like I will be staying in Gotham for a few days. Any of you knows a good chinese takeout? I will buy."

Barbara Gordon has posed:
<For Gotham. Hopefully nothing. For the world? Bad news if Bitrun intends to sell what she stole. Odds are if she knew about this safe then may be she knows about the others. In which case I need to do what I do best and find them so we can get there before she does...>

She frowns a moment, <I don't know what kind of people you hang out with DarkSkye but usually you need a state of the art laboratory to make bio-engineered weapons. If you're telling me Bitrun can also assemble bio-weapons -and- break in to highly secure servers then we have a problem>

Thankfully she can't. <I hate not know what she got off those servers. This is possibly more than you signed up for Bluebird - but are you interested in a trip to Japan? How about you DarkSkye?> Because if she wants to get real answers the best approach might be to hack Tanaka Nobu himself.

<Chinese food, Bluebird can hook you up I'm sure> She smiles at that and rather wishes she could just go hnag out with these two talented hackers - but that is not what Oracle does. Though, a trip to Japan will mean getting to know them both more personally. A rare thing with outsiders these days.

Harper Row has posed:
<"I know just the place,"> Bluebird says about the restaurant request. She ponders the trip offer for a moment and then adds, <"I could do a trip to Japan if there was time to take care of a few arrangements,"> she doesn't mention her brother or her day job, but if Oracle is even half as good as hacker lore implies she already knows, so it doesn't need to be explained or will wait until later; this leads immediately to a simple request, <"Figure out the plans for the trip and let me know when so I can see to them and I'm in.">
