Date of Scene: 30 March 2020
Location: Manhattan
Synopsis: Cable, Hawkeye, and Scarlet Witch foil an attack by the purifiers. Wanda and Clint ask Cable some questions.
Cast of Characters: Cable, Wanda Maximoff, Clint Barton

Cable has posed:
It was quiet. It was peaceful.

Key word: 'was'.

Just because there were a few mutants enjoying their time around the library, they were a few mutants that the purifiers wanted. Suddenly, multiple calls are going through proper channels about an assault on mutants.. The two mutants were currently down and out, but standing over them?

Cable.

He had his futuristic rifle in his hand, firing it at multiple Purifiers as they try to attack him. One of them manages to get on Cable's back, knocking him down. The only question is....will help ever come?

Wanda Maximoff has posed:
Wanda Maximoff was on monitor duty. Though JARVIS is quite capable of handling most of the actual keeping an eye on the data feeds, there's always an Avenger on duty to be ready to respond, or summon others if needed.

JARVIS notifies her of the fight involving powered individuals and futuristic weaponry. She quickly checks the available Avengers and sends a message to Clint, and within a few moments she pulls up red energy out of the ground that swirls around herself in the Assembly Room, and Clint back in their rooms. Then the energy coalesces at the library and then fades, leaving the two Avengers standing there, both in costume.

"What is going on here!?" the Scarlet Witch demands as she looks to see who the combatants are, and hoping their presence might stop the fight and allow some other means of resolving the matter.

Clint Barton has posed:
Ah, being on call, most days it meant you hung around the mansion in your uniform until your shift ended and you got to change back to civvies, today, though was different. Clint had been chilling watching 'Dog Cops' when Wanda's message came through, he rushed to get his bow and sling his quiver on his back before he's surrounded by that now familiar red energy and finds himself outside the New York Public Library.

Seeing the fight, he moves close to Wanda, willing to use his body to shield her from any stray rounds as he draws a trio of arrows and puts them to string all at once. Ready to fire off the volley at the first combatant that turns that fire their way.

"Weapons down now and you guys get to say you met some Avengers!" he calls out. "Don't and your jaws might not work so good."

Cable has posed:
With the arrival of two of the Avengers, suddenly the enemy seems to be far more ware of if they want to fight or not. The Purifier on top of Cable even pauses, allowing the man's metal arm to rip him off and send him sailing into a parked car.

"These assholes started attacking mutants, mind giving me a hand?!" He yells back at Wanda....apparently either not knowing or caring that its Wanda 'Chaos Nexus' Maximoff. As for Clint? Well....Poor Clint.

Five of the present Purifiers attack him. Three of them throwing molotoff cocktails while the other two try and physically get to him for more melee combat. Is it a smart plan?

Effectively no.

For Wanda? Well, the guys with guns are now shooting at her, since they see her as the far more dangerous target than either Cable or Clint....which is probably somewhat true. Cable kneecaps two Purifiers, and gets tackled by another, entering a game of fisticuffs.

How will the Avengers save the day?! There were about twenty Purifiers here in force...or at least, twenty that are left after Cable's involvement.

Wanda Maximoff has posed:
The Scarlet Witch is ready for the combatants to not stop with the combatting. As the guns are aimed her way, she thrusts an arm upwards and a shield of red light flows upwards. Bullets and energy beams spark and sizzle as they hit it and are deflected away from herself and Clint Barton.

The molotovs are the next greatest threat she spots. Her other hand makes a swirling motion, fingers stretched outwards, and then closing inwards towards her palm. Red chaos energy gathers around the bottles in flight, pulling them all in together. There's a flare as the bottles crush against each other and ignite briefly. Without oxygen the fires go out in a second and she drops their contents in an place out of the way of everyone.

Clint Barton has posed:
Clint's glad he didn't have to stop bullets with his body, Wanda's got it covered, he drops his current selection of arrows, all broadheads, and grabs three more, smoke arrows, and steps past the energy field to launch them at the Purifiers trying to block their field of view of Cable and himself and Wanda.

"Hey, big guy, got a name?" he calls to Cable as he scoops up the dropped arrows and puts them to string. The Purifiers got their one warnng, step out of that smoke and they're getting arrows to the kneecaps.

Cable has posed:
"The name's Cable." Cable calls back to Clint. "Thats all you need to know right now, talk more later." Cable is apparently a very focused person not in the mood or headspace for talking while fighting. He punches another Purifier in the ribs, effectively breaking five of them and letting the man wheeze down to the ground.

He punches another and shoots one more in the ribs. Numbers are dwindling fast now that Cable has some back up.

Sure enough, two Purifiers step out of that smoke and both of them get kneecapped. Sad day for those guys, right? Meanwhile, from Clint's flank, a Purifier tries to tackle him to the ground.

As for Wanda? Well, Wanda is apparently playing defense, the purifiers looking very...disheartened by Wanda's show of strength by making their weapons mean pretty much nothing. But they keep up the pressure anyway, because thats how much they psychotically hate mutants (or really people who are different in general). Will Wanda start getting into the thick of it?

Wanda Maximoff has posed:
Wanda keeps up the shield that is deflecting the gunfire, but soon she starts to go after the guns. She leans down towards the ground, making a raising gesture with her hands, and near to the Purifiers a ball of red energy rises from the ground and coalesces up in the air. A swirl of it flows down to an assault rifle held by one of the Purifiers. Wanda's hand closes and the gun bends and is wadded up into a misshapen twist of metal. The man cries out and drops it, but Wanda has already moved on, sending another flow of red aura towards a second gun which is soon silenced.

She sees the man rush for Clint and calls out to him, "Hawkeye, left!" to help draw his attention there!

Clint Barton has posed:
"Good to meet you Cable, I'm Streaming Media," Clint calls back to the new guy. The quips just come naturally. Though it seems like Cable's got the guys coming out of the smoke covered, they drop screaming and clutching their knee caps, when the guy comes at Clint on his left.

Heeding Wanda's he turns, dropping those arrow again and clocks the guy across the face with his bow. It's metal, it hurts. Then scooping up one of the fallen arrows, he knocks, aims and fires it right into the guy's knee. He scoops up the other two arrows afterwards turning back towards the rest of the group. "Thanks, hon," he says to Wanda.

Cable has posed:
Wanda goes to work. A purifier now has no weapon, and he runs to either find another or flee for his life. Another gun is silenced. One of the Purifiers actually is bold enough to try and get close enough to Wanda to stab her with a knife. Will it work? Probs not.

But Some of the Purifiers actually think it wiser to fight another day, and a fourth of their number is now gone. Only eight remain...but one surrenders after Cable effectively breaks their arm.

When Hawkeye makes his quips, Cable doesn't give him the grace of a reply. Apparently Cable doesn't do jokes well...or at least not ones that arn't very funny. Blame a lifetime of war for Cable's grim demeanor. But Hawkeye's arrows once again strike true once gain, knocking the fellow down and taking it to the knee like he was a Skyrim reference. He howls in pain, but he's not moving for a while.

Meanwhile, some of the Gunmen turn their attention from Wanda and onto Cable, who lifts his metallic arm to form a holographic shield to protect himself from the bullets. Of course, Cable has much more tricks up his sleeve, but this was just the simplest and more effective. He seems to be pressed for the moment, but he probably has it handled....

Wanda Maximoff has posed:
Wanda responds to Clint with an, "Anytime, hon," which probably just makes the attacking Purifier all the angrier that they are engaging in normal conversational tones during the fight.

Though he soon has even more to be angry about. Expecting some red energy to blast him or grab him or something, the Purifier instead gets a clean path to Wanda. He stabs with his knife, but she steps forward into him, blocking his arm and then twisting and taking him down not with magic, but with a traditional combat move. Cap's training comes in handy.

She steps on his hand until he drops the knife, and then finally she creates bands of energy to trap him there on the ground unable to move. "You really think attacking mutants here was a wise idea," she says, her eyes blazing actual red as she looks at the trapped man.

He wets himself.

Clint Barton has posed:
That joke was funny damn it! Clint nods as Wanda takes the guy down without magic, "Show off," he grins at her, as he draws an explosive arrow and fires it without really look at the guys keeping up suppressing fire on Cable. The concussion blast should send them flying when it hits the ground, broken bones, burst ear drums, but still alive, though they might wish otherwise.

There's a glance for Wanda as she threatens the Purifier. He rarely sees her like that, it's sobering, but, he keeps his attention on the fight. Another Purifier comes out of the smoke, assault rifle in his hands, firing wildy trying to cover his own escape. Clint has no red energy shield to hide behind but he has a half-second before the barrel is turned on him, he flips through the air ahead of muzzle of the gun firing back in mid flight, a Taser arrow strikes the man in the chest sending him convulsing to the ground. "Bad day to take on anyone, looks like," he remarks about the Purifier's luck today.

Cable has posed:
The poor Purifier that stares in the eyes of Wanda looks absolutely terrified. Smart or not, he still did the crime...but will fear be his only punishment? Cable, in the meantime, proceeds to pull out a futuristic-looking handgun and shoot each of the men who are shooting at him. Non-lethal, because Cable is in a good mood. Tazer rounds, they each drop like flies.

Clint's arrow does indeed strike true, sending the man to the groun and making it look like he's having an intense seizure before he calms down and passes out from the stimulus.

The rest of the purifiers?

They run like hell.

Looks like the day's been saved! But Cable doesn't thank his partners, instead, he moves over to those mutants who were attacked in the first place and makes sure they're okay. They nod, and they get moving...likely back home. That was not something they were prepared to witness.

Wanda Maximoff has posed:
Wanda looks back to the melee to find it come to an end. Those who have already fled might make it away. Two that are still visible find themselves pinned to the ground like the one she'd let her anger show with, held there to wait for the police to take them into custody.

She turns then, the Scarlet Witch walking over to Clint, making sure he wasn't hit, and smiling, touching his shoulder with a fondness that goes beyond merely being Avengers. She focuses her attention on Cable after. "So what exactly happened here. Just a random attack? And, we'd like to hear a little bit more about who you are," she tells Cable, eyeing his weaponry and appearance.

Clint Barton has posed:
Clint smiles back at Wanda putting his hand on hers for a moment before he starts pulling putty arrows to stick the guys Wanda's magic had in its grip to the ground and walls. Another layer of protection in case this Cable guy wasn't really on their side and Wanda's magic was needed elsewhere.

He draws another concussive arrow, but doesn't put it to string, eying Cable warily. The guy's tech was top notch, and while he had been firing non-lethal rounds he didn't doubt his weapons could be seriously deadly.

Cable has posed:
Cable rises back to his feet and turns his attention to the two Avengers who seem to be staring him down. "No, this was planned. I was simply here in time to watch all hell break loose." His voice is gravelly, yet smooth. Relaxing and grim, almost at the same time. He locks eyes with Wanda then. "Too many to simply be sudden. More than likely they chose those mutants as their targets, and were gravely mistaken in doing so. They will not try again."

How does he know that?

The question of who he is gets a more...stern look on his face. "Who I am doesn't matter. Or won't, for that matter. Not for a long time." Perhaps a hint.

Wanda Maximoff has posed:
Wanda glances at Cable's weaponry again. "We're grateful you helped save these people as you did," she says slowly, her English softly accented by her native tongue. "Though we're always a little... careful... when we come across someone new who is carrying such armaments," she points out.

"And that does matter, now or in the future," she says. Wanda's tone isn't adversarial, more matter of fact that they are indeed asking for reasons.

Wanda glances over towards Clint again. "And here I thought my string of quiet watch nights was going to be extended," she comments to him.

Clint Barton has posed:
Clint nods, still watchful and standing at Wanda's side.

"It definitely matters, so how about you give us a bit of story time and tell us who you are and where you got those guns." The bit about things not mattering yet isn't missed, it's just with this line of work you never know if it's time travel or some guy who thinks he has a destiny, and the second option was by far the most common.

Cable has posed:
Cable gives a soft nod to Wanda for a moment. "No gratitude is needed. If we are to survive, then we need to work together and watch over one another." Cable's a mutant? Either way, Cable looks to her for a moment then. "Your words are kind."

Then there's Clint.

"If you want to have story time, then I'm sure you're comfortable telling me when you got good with a bow and where you received your training." Deductive reasoning. Nobody gets that good at fighting or tactics without it being taught. The chances of it being instinct is low, in Cable's opinion.

He stares Clint down for a few moments. "I'm from the future. From what I understand, I'm not the first, nor will I be the last. Any other questions?" Though he remains standing. Upright, perfect posture.

Anyone who knows discipline can tell that Cable's a soldier, or at least was trained as one.
