Hold the Kraut
Date of Scene: 11 November 2021
Location: Sara and Cael's apartment
Synopsis: No description
Cast of Characters: Cael Becker, Sara Pezzini

Cael Becker has posed:
It's evening - and Cael returns to the apartment with a paper bag wafting with the smell of sausage dogs in one hand - and a mixed cardboard carrying case with a six pack of assorted local craft beers in the other. She nudges the door closed with her foot, listening as the bolt closes automatically, as she makes her way towards the small kitchen table in their apartment. She sets everything on the table, grabbing a couple of plates and some napkins, and bringing them back out of the kitchen as she calls, "You haven't eaten yet, have you?"

Sara Pezzini has posed:
Sara is in her room, the door open so she can hear the stereo from the living room, though it's not on all that loud. At the time Clarice comes in, she is moving through a series of exercise moves, ending up with push-ups. She needed to get to the gym and get back to boxing practice, but for now she was maintaining her exercise as best she could at home.

She hears the door open and springs to her feet, moving to the edge of the door and was just about to peek around the corner when she smells the hot dogs and hears Cael.

"Not yet, no," she calls back, grabbing the towel off a chair to wipe her face off. "What did you get?"

Cael Becker has posed:
"Two of those foul 'kraut monstrosities you love so much," Cael remarks - rolling her eyes widely. There's a relaxed smile on her lips as she does so. "And two with relish, like God intended." Not that she's religious, of course. Though given everything she's learned lately...
After settling into a seat, she reaches into the bag, pulling out a foil-wrapped hotdog. She makes a face, then sets it aside on the second plate - trying again in her search for a hot dog with relish, ketchup, and mustard. ...she fails on her second attempt as well.
Thankfully, her third attempt was guaranteed to be a success.
"You want first pick of the beers?" she asks.

Sara Pezzini has posed:
Taking a moment to wipe off her arms as well, Sara pull on a t-shirt and tosses the towel back into her room then walks over to the couch to sit down. She /loved/ those hot dogs. There were only three places in all of New York City that served them the right way, and some how Cael had found one cause they looked right.

"What's the occasion?" she asks, then starts looking at the micro brews. "Oh wow, this one, definitely this one."

Cael Becker has posed:
"It's, uhhh... a 'thank you, I'm sorry' dinner. Whichever you rather. Both," Cael explains - both vaguely and flippantly, as she stares down at her sausage dog. She presses her lips together, trying to find the right words - but frank and vulnerable conversations really aren't her forte. "I just- owe you one. So..." So dinner. Rather than adding any further explination, she takes a bite from her hot dog, reaching out for one of the beers without too much thought or consideration to her choice.

Sara Pezzini has posed:
A single nod and Sara accepts that explanation without making it any more difficult on Cael than that already was. She picks up a hot dog and bites the end of it off, before grabbing a beer and opening it for a drink as well. She understood how difficult that much was for Cael, so she's not going to linger on it.

"This dog..." she almost groans with pleasure, then finishes the bite. "You know, relish would be good on this too, you might be on to something there. I might have to try it that way, but this... this is a New Yorker dog. I used to try and get Jake to appreciate these, to embrace his inner New Yorker..." she pauses there a moment, then takes another drink of the beer. "He never did, damn Californian."

Cael Becker has posed:
"Yeah, well, I'm not a New Yorker, either," Cael agrees. "And - I mean - doctors are always saying to eat your greens, right?" Sure. Sugary relish - that's clearly what they mean.
After another bite she adds, "So... I don't think you need to worry too much about finding me a pendant, or a candle, or anything like that." She still isn't looking at Sara as she talks, continuing to remain focused on her food. It really was easier to talk when there was something else to partially occupy their attention.

Sara Pezzini has posed:
Another bite of the hot dog disappears before Sara lifts a brow as she looks at Cael. Chewing, she watches the woman, then looks back to her own dog to she isn't staring.

"Why is that?" she asks after swallowing. "Did something happen?" Now she starts looking around the room as if she missed something, but she hadn't seen Yee or Alis all day. That's how it was for here, they weren't always there, so she looks back to Cael, concern on her face.

Cael Becker has posed:
"The mist did something to her," Cael explains - her voice and expression calm. "I was, uhh... at theraphy," as you do, "and she- she appeared to me - to both of us. She talked to me, and held my hand." And hugged her. "She couldn't do it for long - she got tired. And- well, I guess we don't know if it'll be permanent, or temporary, but- I mean, if it's permanent then... Alis has it handled. We can talk."

Sara Pezzini has posed:
Both of Sara's brows shoot up into her hairline before she really starts looking around now. Had Yee gone with her? Had he some how been effected? Is that why he wasn't there? In the long run, it would either work itself out or not, but she wondered.

Shifting eyes back to her roommate she smiles, "Well... that makes it a little easier, but if it doesn't remain permanent, let me know. I can still arrange ways to help see and hear her if needed," she offers, then takes another bite of her dog.

Cael Becker has posed:
"I know - and I appreciate that, really I do," Cael says sincerely, glancing aside at Sara with a brief smile. "But I don't want you to go to more effort than you already have - if there isn't any need to." After another bite she adds, "You said you were going to explain what it cost you - doing that for us," she remarks in a quiet voice. She sits with her elbows resting on her knees, gaze locked in front of her.

Sara Pezzini has posed:
Damn... she remembered. Sara had honestly hoped that Cael would forget but figured she wouldn't, that's not something the woman would forget.

Taking another drink of her beer, she sits back on the couch and sets the plate in her lap. "The first cost is physical exhaustion," she explains, just getting right to it. "Like I'd been awake for three days straight, and didn't eat. So slept for about ten hours then ate the kitchen, the went shopping to replace what I ate."

The beer gets rested on her knee, "The other part is Witchblade, his private price." She takes a deep breath and lets it out slowly. "Not a lot of people understand how Witchblade words, they assume it's a magic item I control, but that's so not the case. My relationship with him is symbiotic, give and take, tit for tat sometimes. When there's something I want to do, but he doesn't, there is an agreement made between us. Hell, even if I want to do something and he doesn't care one way or the other, there is an agreement made. In this particular case, I promised him a trip out to do some demon killing."

Cael Becker has posed:
"Okay," Cael remarks, finally setting down her dog so she can pop open her beer and take a swig. She considers the bottle for a moment, before looking towards Sara. "I mean - getting rid of demons sounds like it would be a //good// thing. It's not something you want to do, though? ...it's not easy on you?" she hazards uncertainly, before taking another swig, and switching back to her dog.

Sara Pezzini has posed:
Sara shakes her head a little. "No, it's not hard on me it's just..." she pauses to find the right words. "To Witchblade, a demon is a demon, it doesn't matter if they're helping the Avengers or eating souls. They don't belong on this plane of exitance."

For a moment she is quiet, another sip of the beer taken. "This is a 'let him hold the reigns' sort of hunt," she finally explains. "I follow his lead, rather than him following mine... so if he wants to kill that demon helping the homeless, he kills that demon."

Cael Becker has posed:
"...what percentage of demons are helping the homeless, though?" Cael counters - before pausing for a moment. "It's... a loss of control, though, and-" Sara did it for her. She lets out a sigh, glancing aside at her roommate for a moment - then back down to her dog once more. "Well. Like I said - thank you and sorry dinner."
She lets out a sigh before adding," She'd been following me for more than seven years - trying to get my attention, and failing obviously. We both owe you one. The whole thing's strange but- well. It's better than nothing. Way better."

Sara Pezzini has posed:
Sara chuckles softly. "Okay, bad example, but not all demons out there are pure evil, that's the point I'm trying to make." She looks at the hot dog a moment, one half eaten the other untouched. In the end, she nods and looks back to Cael, "Yeah, that's the issue, but don't worry. I intend to use a portal to hell to let him have his time. It might be a loophole, but he wasn't specific."

Now she takes another bite of her hot dog and listens about Alis, and seven years of following Cael. "That's a long time for a spirit," she comments softly. "But I'm glad I could help Cael, glad I could help give you that connection. This new ability however," another pause with a soft hmm. "Tell her to be careful. Many would see a sentient ghost with powers as dangerous, and there are a /lot/ of magical types out there who can likely see her. I don't want something to happen to her, that's all."

Cael Becker has posed:
Cael nods, an uncertain expression crossing her features. "I already told her - I don't want her showing herself around folks. You're fine, the therapist is fine, but... I don't know. It's a lot to explain and, besides that - it's always hard to know how people will react." And what problems that could cause. "She did say something about other spirits she saw not seeming as... aware? Complete? I don't know."
She shifts a bit uncomfortably before remarking, "I don't understand much about all this. About how it happened at all, about what could or couldn't pose a threat to her. About- well, about //what// she really is. She does seem like herself - not just some shadow, or echo, or fragment. She's- for the most part, she's like I remember her. I just- part of me wonders if she's really complete, or if part of who she is is somehow... missing? If she'll always stay the way she is, or get stronger over time, or slowly fade out somehow... I don't get any of this."
She stares at her dog for a few moments - before she silently but forcefully reminds herself she should be //eating// her food.

Sara Pezzini has posed:
Turning a little more on the couch so she is more facing Cael, Sara sets the beer bottle on the coffee table, but the plate stays in her lap.

"There are numerous kinds of spirits, ghosts, wraiths, specters, disir and on and on and on. Every culture has a different name for ghosts based on what sort of powers they exhibit, but there are always those who don't all into any kind of category at all."

Reaching out, she gives Cael's leg a light pat before taking her hand back, "Alis falls into that place, an unknown category, and that's not a bad thing. It just means that we learn about her as we go." She offers a smile, picking up her hot dog. "I can tell you one thing however, that I have noticed. Alis is linked to you, which you already knew but I'm confirming it. She's not going anywhere unless someone does something to her, and I won't let that happen."

Cael Becker has posed:
Cael's gaze flicks towards her leg at the touch - but she doesn't shy away from it. She does take a moment to pick up her beer and take a drink from it, though. "If anyone tried, I would fucking destroy them," she replies quietly, but fiercely. "I'm not a helpless little girl anymore." She won't lose Alis again. If Alis wanted to move on - that would be one thing. She won't let anyone //take// her.
"There's no way to learn about her - what she is, and what she can do - other than just wait and see? I mean- I don't want to experiment on her, or do anything that could hurt her." As if that even needed saying...

Sara Pezzini has posed:
Having taken a bite of her hot dog, Sara collects her beer again for a drink. This was a perfect dog, so perfect, everything she remembered in a bite from the hot dogs her father would bring home.

"There may be a way, but it would require revealing her to others with magical abilities," she admits. "I'm no expert, Witchblade most certainly isn't either, not in this field, but there may be someone out there who is. So what I'll do is ask around, giving no names, no real indications of who or where, and see if I can find someone who knows more about spirits. If I can, I'll introduce you to them and let you ask questions without Alis there, let you decide if this person gets to know more or not. Sound fair?"

Cael Becker has posed:
"I suppose," Cael admits. "I mean. Probably best to do as much research one them as we can, first - decide how trustworthy they are. I don't really like to- I mean, the idea of letting more people know about her..." It definitely makes her uneasy. "Though, Sam knows at least some of it. Or at least - that I was able to talk to her, and that it helped." She takes a deep breath in, letting it out slowly before she adds, "But - you and he are my friends, so- if anyone should know, it's the pair of you," she suggests - before digging back into her food, rather than add anything else to //that// sentiment.

Sara Pezzini has posed:
Sara tilts her head a little. "So your plan is to keep her all to yourself, even though she's gaining the ability to be seen and interact again, after seven years?" This is asked softly, no accusatory tone or anything of that nature. "I can understand that for a little while, but what if she wants to explore, experience, try new things?"

Finishing off the first dog, she chews while watching Cael and waiting for the answer.

Cael Becker has posed:
Uncertainty and confusion play across Cael's features, and she actually puts down her food, wiping her hand, and folding her arms across her knees, as she stares down at the floor. "Hell," she finally offers quietly. "I don't know," she finally admits. "If she wants to make herself known - there's fuck all I could do to stop her. I mean - I never could stop her. She's... She was always stubborn, determined - and pretty short-tempered," she admits. "She was hard to- she made enemies easier than friends."
She shakes her head in frustration. "I want to do what I can, to try to make her happy. I don't know if that's really possible when- I mean, she's //dead//." That's the weird contradiction of all of this. "And I want to keep her safe - as much as I can. I really don't know."

Sara Pezzini has posed:
Sara nods a little, picking up the other hot dog. "Sounds like you have the right mind set over all then," she offers with a smile. "Protecting her is my goal as well, and helping you to help her be happy if I can... and just so you know, dead doesn't mean she can't be happy. I asked Yee about it once, and he laughed at me and told me very matter a factly, yes he could be happy, sad, lonely... he could feel the whole range of emotions."

Now she nudges Cael's plate, "Eat up Cael, I didn't mean to throw you for a loop there, I was just curious. I think you got it all under control, even if you don't think you do. Now you just talk to her and work it out."

Cael Becker has posed:
"I failed her once, Sara... I just don't want to do it again," Cael admits. She grits her teeth together at the thought, focusing on that to keep her emotions under wraps, before she reaches out for her dog again, taking another bite.
"I don't know if I'll ever be able to work anything out with her. I mean - I got to get 'er to stop talking about Captain America's ass first. She's obsessed with the Boy Scout."

Sara Pezzini has posed:
And spray of beer. Sara has just taken a sip when Cael mentioned Alis and Captain America's ass, which makes the beer get sprayed out as she laughs. Immediately reaching to offer napkins while still laughing, she manages to get herself back under control while wiping off the couch.

"So that continues," she manages to say, wiping her hands next. "While I agree that Steve's ass is nice, he's too much of a... well, he's almost innocently goody goody. I imagine he'd only know one position in the bedroom." That might be more than Cael wanted to hear, but oh well, friends share.

"I think, honestly... Alis loves you so much, and has watched you over seven years now..." Sara begins, using one more napkin to wipe her hands again. "I think you talk to her, you explain things how you feel, what you're thinking, I think she'll listen. Right now, it's all really exciting for her so it might be tough to get through to her, but give it a little time. She's still her, just as she was, nothing is missing from the very essence of the soul that was and is Alis, okay?"

Cael Becker has posed:
Cael lets out a snort of amusement at Sara's reaching - as the woman begins mopping up the spray. "Not my mess," she says with amusement. Her expression grows more serious as she adds, "You do think it's all of her, then?" she asks. "I mean- yeah. It seems like all of her..." But she can't help but harbor some doubts and fears.
"We'll talk," she promises. "I'm hoping- well. I'm hoping we can chat a little most every night." She's silent for a moment before adding in an uncertain voice, "It isn't fair, though - if we're always only talking about my life. If Alis really has //nothing//." But how do you give her something to occupy her? She's //dead//.
"Maybe we make her an Agent of SHIELD one of these days. She could do recon for us." She's joking. ...mostly.

Sara Pezzini has posed:
Gathering up the used napkins, Sara places them on the coffee table in a pile, then picks her beer back up for a drink that she doesn't spray all over.

"Cael, it /is/ all of her. The energy that creates the human soul doesn't splinter and fade away into the energies of the universe when a ghost exists of that soul. Everything that she was in her heart, mind and soul... she still," she takes a sip of the beer then picks up her hot dog.

"Yee is exactly the same as he always was... no, he's something more because he gained the knowledge of so many things he never knew before. Now that was Witchblade that did that, I don't know why, he doesn't know why, but without him helping me when I first got this thing, I'd likely be dead." She takes a bite, using a napkin to wipe her mouth while she chews, then swallows. "Alis is the same, all there, and perhaps even something more now. Never doubt that."
