Date of Scene: 13 November 2021
Location: Main Room - Titan's Tower
Synopsis: Girls meet up in the main room of Titans Tower and plan a BBQ event.
Cast of Characters: Mary Bromfield, Heather Danielson

Mary Bromfield has posed:
One nice thing about this place...you could always find a place to study.

Mary was still working on transitioning to Metropolis U, but at least she could pre-reg. Right now, she was looking through the course booklet and looking very un-heroic: sweat pants, socks, and a t-shirt that says, "ADULTING: 1/5 stars. Would not recommend."
Every now and then, she picks up a highlighter and draws through an entry to mark it for later.

Heather Danielson has posed:
Well, someone studying in the main room kinda ruins any plans Heather had of coming here to blast some music and dance about while preparing food. She steps off of the elevator and freezes as she sees Mary there. Lips pursed, she nods to herself and plonks one earbud into an ear. Then she taps it to hit -play-, starting up the opening guitar riffs for ZZ Top's "Legs".

Only then does she saunter towards the kitchen area, steps moving in time to the fast paced tunes in her ear.

But she states as she spots the teeshirt, "I've heard Adulting is 80% going to be before you want, and waking up -way- before you want to. So I agree with your review of it." as she pulls bread, meat, cheese, mustard, and a few other sandwich fixings out.

Mary Bromfield has posed:
Mary looks over her shoulder and spots Heather. It's...kinda been awhile, but she's got something of a thing for faces and names for certain people.

"Oh, hey, Heather." Mary waves. "Yeah, but everyone has to do it sometime. I think I started a little early, myself..."

In a very weird way. Instant change from teenager to adult woman with a word. Not something you can talk to a therapist about.
"How are you doing?"

Heather Danielson has posed:
And then there is Heather who is stuck at 18 for the next ten or twenty years. Well physically stuck. She shrugs a shoulder and says, "Doing okay. Been spending more of my time doing PR work than actual field work. But it's one of my strengths. I mean aside from being strong of course." she adds with a smirk.

She begins layering sandwich fixings and then pauses to glance Mary's way, "Oh hey, want me to put you together a sandwich?" she asks.

Mary Bromfield has posed:
Mary smiles, looking a mite embarrassed. "Uhm...I am a little peckish. May I please have a roast beef with cheddar cheese, Heather?"
She looks back to her booklet. "I'm...working on choosing my classes for the Spring semester. I'm hoping to earn my nursing degree in two years if I keep my nose to the grindstone."

Heather Danielson has posed:
"Nursing. That's cool." offers Heather. She lays out the bread, and plucks up the roast beef slices. She's become quite the expert at sandwich making ever since her powers gave her constant hunger pangs.

"Any mustard? Mayo? Anything?" she asks as she cheddars it up. "And yeah, I had been considering college back before my whole world changed. Now I am basically in the school of hard knocks."

Mary Bromfield has posed:
Mary chuckles. "Mustard AND mayo." She pauses, then says, "You should think about going back. Even if this is your main job now. I mean, it's not like I can make a living being a Titan. And I certainly can't say my occupation is 'Superheroine' on my tax return. Besides, I think I'd go nuts being a Titan ALL the time. I like having a life I can use to just...step away from the crazy hijinks and have something resembling a normal life. And I think I have a lot to offer the world as Mary Bromfield, RN."

Heather Danielson has posed:
"Well, I don't need a degree for modeling. And I am still making royalties off the SI thing. However, I really -should- consider a degree of some sort. If only to be a more well rounded human being."

She squirts mustard (of which there is certainly a prolific amount in the fridge) onto each slice of bread, and then scoops a bit of mayo onto each slice. Only after she's done that does she spread them evenly over those bread slices.

Then the meat and cheese are stacked. And in fact, she's making two identical sandwiches for herself along with the one for Mary.

"I'm not really sure that I will ever have a normal life. It's not like I can take a mask off and go back and live like a normal person."

"But if you need someone to practice your nursing stuff on, think of me as a happy volunteer. It's not like you could kill me if you do something wrong." she adds with a smile as she plates up Mary's sandwich and steps over to present it to her along with a bottle of water.

Mary Bromfield has posed:
Mary snorts a laugh. "Nurse, not HEART SURGEON. If anything, it's how to handle triage, basic procedures like IV lines, general patient care. Not everything is like CHICAGO MED."

She takes the plate and bottle gratefully. "Hmmm, this looks nice. Ever thought about being a cook or a chef?"

Heather Danielson has posed:
"Oh, my best skills with food are on the consumption side of it but..." Heather tilts her head a bit, "Odds are, I'd eat more than I served to others."

She chuckles, "And when it comes to practice, I just mean... I am literally not in any danger even if you make mistakes."

She sits down with her own plate and two sandwiches, "I mean... daddy taught me how to do a lot of grill cookin'. Maybe I could do some cooking school stuff."

Mary Bromfield has posed:
Mary grins, then takes a bite of the sandwich, nodding slightly as she chows down.
"That's good. Really, if you like grilling, there are like four schools of thought on barbeque ALONE. I wonder how you would do if we got a proper smoker here. Not just a grill. One of those big tank smoker things they make six briskets in." She grinned. I'm sure you would find a LOT of people here to test your skills on."

Heather Danielson has posed:
Chuckling, Heather nods, "Daddy's favorite trick is to soak some applewood chips in water for a couple weeks, and then put those in the charcoal to get that smokey flavor in the meat without a smoker. We didn't really have the money for a smoker until I got that cover gig."

She takes a bite of her own sandwich and nods approvingly. "I must admit, there are times..." she says after swallowing, "..when I don't eat slow enough to really -taste- the food. I also love Italian. But yeah, maybe I could get a smoker and put it on the roof. I always wanted to try some gimmicky BBQ ideas. Like... combining brisket with the cheesesteak idea."

Mary Bromfield has posed:
Mary sipped, then nodded. "There you go. I went on a family trip once to Colorado. There was this shop that sold beef jerky...but they also sold OTHER types, too. Boar...elk...SALMON. I never HEARD of salmon jerky, but they did it. Tasted pretty good, too." She looks around. "I mean, there's gotta be SO MUCH stuff on this sort of thing. I even saw a reality show on Netflix that was nothing but barbeque."

Heather Danielson has posed:
"Right ... Pit masters or some such." Heather says, "I love Forged in Fire myself." she adds as she smirks and shrugs. "But yeah, I also love... what's that show... Cutthroat Kitchen?" she asks.

She gobbles down another large bite before continuing, "Jerky huh?" she asks. "Oh, and you're just signing up for classes now right? Not studying for an exam?"

Mary Bromfield has posed:
Mary shook her head. "I am studying, in a way. I'm working out the best way I can cover the most courses in the least amount of time. And I can't do it as Mary Marvel. I have to do this on my own. I can't just yell the Word if I forget how to set up a catheter or run a particular test." She sighs, taking another bite before continuing. "I have to prove to myself that Mary Bromfield is just as capable as Mary Marvel. And this is the way to do it. So when I do graduate...I know that I accomplished something, without superpowers."

Heather Danielson has posed:
"Well, when you -do- get that degree, I'll be there to cheer you on." offers Heather with a beaming smile. "I mean, before I got into modeling, I -was- a cheerleader. I'm good at cheering."

But her blue eyes roll up just a bit as she ponders. "So, I wonder if I could do a chopped cheese sandwich with a BBQ flair. Like pulled pork, or brisket chopped up and such." She smirks, "I fell in love with the chopped cheese sandwich my first time in New York."

Mary Bromfield has posed:
"MMM. Sounds delicious. Not that this sandwich isn't pretty good, though." She takes another bite, smirking. "There's a good thing to focus on. It also makes you a little more well-rounded. I mean, I WISH I could do modeling, but that's a non-starter. But showing you have a skill you could use in many situations...and a skill is something that only gets better the more you use it, and it can't be stolen."

Heather Danielson has posed:
"Right, and let's be honest, modeling lasts what, ten years tops?" she asks. Of course.. she has no idea that she is aging super slow now. I mean who knows they stopped aging until everyone else ages around them?

But either way, she gulps down another bite and chases it with water. "So, do you have any awesome gimicky food ideas?"

Mary Bromfield has posed:
Mary looks thoughtful. "Well, let's see...let's stick with grilling, since that's your wheelhouse. You ought to stretch your skills with something you haven't done."
She snaps her fingers. "Okay! How about studying a particular style of barbeque, making dishes that fit that style?" Mary takes out her phone and taps the screen a few times. "Here we go. Texas, Memphis, Carolina, and Kansas City. Hey, so THAT is what the KC in that bbq sauce stands for..."

Heather Danielson has posed:
"Yep. I think I'd stick with the KC style, but maybe with the St Louis twist. The sauce in St Louis is more sweet, and still smokey in flavor." she says with a grin. "After all, I grew up just outside of St Louis. Total Cardinals fan by the way." she adds.

Mary Bromfield has posed:
Mary nodded. "It sounds both delicious and fascinating. But I think refining your skills in your preferred area is a good foundation before you think about branching out. But let's have fun with this. How long would it take you to set up, like, a menu? Like three different kinds of meat, three different sides like potato salad or cole slaw - HEY, I could make the sides!"

Heather Danielson has posed:
"Yeah! I'd love to do this as a team! It's always fun to work together with a friend!" offers Heather. "As for sides, there's one I saw at a place back home that I always loved. Picture Mac 'n Cheese with Brisket chunks in it. Or with Tater Tots in it."

"As for a menu... lemme talk with Daddy and see if he has some ideas and thoughts. But maybe a week or two to get ready."

Mary Bromfield has posed:
"Ooooh, the Mac and Cheese with tots sounds delicious." Mary took another large bite, suddenly hungry for some reason.

"Okay...we should probably made some kind of public announcement. See who might want to eat vegetarian or even vegan BBQ. I could track down some of those recipes if you'd like me to!"

Mary looks really interested in this idea. "Me, I love good food, meat and all. And I'll make any side dish. I have some experience in cooking for a large family.'

Heather Danielson has posed:
"Oh, some sides. Yes, sides should be veggie or vegan. Kinda hard to do vegan BBQ meat." offers Heather with a smirk.

"Like maybe some sort of spiced green beans side. Maybe some sort of sweet and smokey spiced carrots too." But she grins, "But for the non vegans, what say Potatoes Augraten with chopped bacon in the mix?"

Mary Bromfield has posed:
Mary almost moans. "A moment of silence for the impending death of my DIET." She giggles and winks. "That sounds HEAVENLY. I will need to rustle up some RECIPES." she looks to the booklet. "Something a lot more appealing than having to do THAT, let me tell you. Do you want to make an announcement, or would you like me to?"

Heather Danielson has posed:
"Oh, by all means, I'll happily let you handle that. So, now that I have thoroughly removed all of your focus from your studying... maybe you'll let me help design a workout for you that'll help so you don't -NEED- to diet so much?"

But yeah, she finishes her first sandwich and begins working on number two.

Mary Bromfield has posed:
Mary rolls her eyes. "I already do three things to keep in shape. Crossfit, healthy diet, and Trying to Keep the Other Marvels Out of Trouble."

Heather Danielson has posed:
Smirking, Heather nods, "I am just working out all the time. I need the calories to fuel my powers. But if I don't work out, it'd be all flab fueling my powers. But yeah, this could work. I'll work up some Brisket ideas, some pork ideas... and some weird combos." she adds enthusiastically.

Mary Bromfield has posed:
"Better put up a sign somewhere. Make sure we're making something for everybody." Mary was smiling warmly. "This is great. The more I think about this, the more fun it sounds!"

Heather Danielson has posed:
Chuckling, Heather gestures to the books in Mary's hands, "Have I distracted you enough? If not, I could keep going." She inclines her head to one side, "If we do a potato salad, we need to make -sure- we have one Mustard variant, if only for Kori." she adds.

Mary Bromfield has posed:
Mary grins. "Would you believe I was planning to make my foster mom's fantastic mustard potato salad?"
