Rec for the Recreation gods
Date of Scene: 30 March 2020
Location: Rec Room
Synopsis: Jubilee comes in to play Animal Crossing and meets Marie! Now Marie has a job. Go team Xavier's!
Cast of Characters: Marie-Ange Colbert, Jubilation Lee

Marie-Ange Colbert has posed:
Marie-Ange Colbert. French Immigrant. Student at Xavier's. Despite the fact that she should stick out like a sore thumb with her accent, many of the residents of Xavier's School might not even know the girl exists.

She is but a wallflower, blending into the scenery whenever Jennifer allows her to.

Much like today. While the Rec Room isn't empty, Marie sits alone; she's dragged one of the many beanbags -- this one purple -- to a corner of the room, and is splayed upon it with her nose deep in a textbook: Algebra. Bane of teenagers everywhere. She doesn't make a peep, barely moves but to turn a page, and could be easily missed by anyone coming into the room. However, she seems peaceful enough!

Jubilation Lee has posed:
Imagine the hypocracy of a school full of mutants thinking a person stands out because of their accent. The sheer assholery of that would be beyond the scope of any low level douchebaggisms.

Jubilation Lee, resident knuckle head and chortle stick, rolls into the rec room with her toes up. Skating along the smooth hardwood on the Heeley shoes she's wearing, carrying her into the room proper and over towards one of the gaming stations. Whether or not she's done her homework or not! She's only got an hour to play Animal Crossing before she has to be at her job in Salem Center: Burger Joint, so woe be unto thee who interrupts her thirty minutes of unadulterated gametime.

"Move, move.." Pushing at Marie's shoulder, who happened to take the seat right infront of the Switch station. "I gotta get my fishing done before I go to work, you can study algebra anytime.." Algebra... heh.. BASIC MATH.. the bane of Jubilee's existance.

Marie-Ange Colbert has posed:
Marie, frankly, is used to being pushed around -- literally and figuratively. She's about as docile as it comes, though. Green eyes go wide for but a moment, before she responds with, "Je suis desole!" and is half-pushed, half-rolls off the beanbag she was seated on. She's about to start getting up to go claim a new seat... but something about what the younger girl said seemed a little strange to her.

Strange, in a school full of mutants, no less.

"...attendez, what?" she asks, half-sprawled on the ground, looking over her shoulder at the one who foisted her from her seat. "Do you not need a pole, or a... body of water at all in which to fish?" she asks, blinking in utter confusion. Of course, it is a school of MUTANTS, so...

Jubilation Lee has posed:
Jubilee grabs the fob remotes and brings them up between her knees which sit high with her leaning down between them on the beanbag Marie was just evicted from. There's a glance sideways, making sure the new girl is okay, but then the asians attention is right back on the big screen ready to click into her game and move her yellow jacketed avatar out of its house while switching through tools.

Staring with her axe to collect some wood from the rows of trees she's moved to be more time efficient infront of her home along a river. "It's a video game." She says without looking to Marie, "See." Nodding towards the screen, "You're from France, not Africa, and even they know about nintendo..." Right? She's not any better at Geography than she is math.

At least she's picked out the accent and language accurately though! Score one.

Marie-Ange Colbert has posed:
"Oh! Video game, oui. I have seen them before. But... are they not full of shooting... creatures... with chainsaws?" Someone was playing Doom Eternal on one of the big screens earlier, and she watched for a little bit before returning her attention to the book. Of course, as the asian girl starts playing and attends to her village.

"Oui, I know of Nintendo, but I've not played." she points out, crinkling her nose a bit. "We did not have much time for such things at my previous school." she admits -- what she doesn't say is that, even if she HAD more time, extracurriculars like that are the kinds of things that she wouldn't have been invited to join in on. Rather than get up right away, though, she moves to sit crosslegged next to the beanbag, watching.

Jubilation Lee has posed:
"Well this is Nintendo, not Doom." Jubilee says as she moves around collecting the wood chunks falling from the various trees she's hitting, attention largely focused up on the big screen rather than sideways at Marie. Once she's finished her first task, her hand extends sideways to the French mutant, "Jubilation Lee. You can call me Jubilee."

Without glancing over. Her pink lensed shades sit up on her brow, dark eyes fixed when moving along the river reeling in fish and checking for any dropped items. "I work over at Burger Joint if you're looking for a job or something. Annnd if you need help with Algebra, you probably want to talk to Jennifer. Nobody crunches numbers like her." Jubilee is the girl who knows everyone, even if they don't know her too.

Marie-Ange Colbert has posed:
It takes a moment for her to notice the hand being offered, but Marie's quick to take it and shake it. "Enchante, Mademoiselle Jubilee." she replies, "My name is Marie-Ange Colbert... most here simply call me Marie." she replies, turning her head to more face the other girl -- until she sees that Jubilee's attention is back on the screen (it never left, but Marie doesn't realize that!).

Then, it's back to the game. Watching with curiousity -- it's definitely a more visually appealing game than she's seen played before. At least, it is to her. "A... job? We are allowed to have them while attending?" she asks, having dismissed the idea entirely. Had she stayed with her family and not been... /her,/ jobs might have never been a thing for Marie to worry about. The boarding school was full of similar teens. "...and oui! I know Jennifer." Talk of /that/ girl seems to make Marie more comfortable, even lighting her up a little bit. "She is wonderful, non? Although.. she does not often wish to study..."

...that might be an understatement.

Jubilation Lee has posed:
"always better to beg forgiveness than ask permission." Jubilee says of having a job, "But it hasn't been a problem for me and I've been here for like two years." Retaking her hand to begin moving her avatar along the coast to the next body of water. Cartoonish representation of herself smiling everytime it's facing the camera.

"Don't know, never met her, but she's good with numbers." Jubes makes it her business to know of people. Kind of the self appointed meeting committy who never really meets anyone. "I'll admit, studying isn't my favorite thing either. I prefer shopping... or playing my Ukulele.. or hanging out with Marie... Anne Marie, Rogue. Have you met Rogue?"

Marie-Ange Colbert has posed:
Blink. "Are you certain? If you ask permission, you might not have to beg forgiveness..." she points out -- on her own, Marie's very much a good girl. It's influences that get her into trouble, and it's very, very easy to influence the poor French girl. "Though, if you have done this for two years, now..." ...it's quite a bit longer than she's been here, so... Marie supposes she'll take the Asian girl's word for it.

"Well, now you know, oui? Mademoiselle Jennifer Stavros is a wonderful person." Also, quite possibly the girl's only real friend here. The first non-teacher to really notice her, and one she has a definite bond with. A shake of her head to the question. "I have not." A pause. "There are quite many who I have not spoken to, yet... I try to not bother anyone."

Right now, Marie's got a good thing going here. A person who cares about her. Nobody who's overtly mean to her. Xavier's is as close as she's been to paradise in a decade-plus. She doesn't want to mess this up until fate makes her!

Jubilation Lee has posed:
"You can't be told no, either." Jubilee points out in response to Marie's counter argument regarding forgiveness and permissions. She's almost done a full circuit of the immediate area surrounding her homestead, now moving to visit the daily shops to see if there's anything worth picking up. Glancing at one of her two watches on her left wrist while the screen is loading.

"Well, I notice you." She points out with a grin, daring a glance, then looking back to the screen. "I keep to myself too, except for Rogue." Rather than confusing the second Marie by calling Rogue by Marie as she usually would. "She's my best friends and one day she's going to fall in love with me and we're going to elope to the moon..." Smirking in a joking way. "Probably not though."

Absently, while visiting shops, "So what do you do, Marie? In your freetime I mean. I've seen you playing with Tarot cards, but... other than weird witchcraft bullshit."

Marie-Ange Colbert has posed:
"I... suppose.... that is true?" Marie admits -- it's not against her core morals, so it's not a point worth arguing further. Besides. It's pretty consistent with Jenny's attitude towards things, so they can't BOTH be wrong, can they? Clearly not, at least in her mind. Marie continues watching the game... it's a little easier for her to talk when not actively looking at someone.

"I.. apologize again, Mademoiselle Jubilee, for having taken your seat." Yup, she took that as being offended by something perfectly innocent like that. This one? Definitely overly apologetic. "Oh! This I underst--" ...until the conversation turns to love and... eloping to the MOON? Blink. Blink. She's taking it literally. "...no, I do not understand at all, I fear. How could you /breathe/ there? ...is that one of your abilities?" Confusing her yes, but it seems a decent way to get her to open up a little. Playing to her more inquisitive nature.

"I..." What does she do? "I study, when I'm able. I -- oui, I read the cards, they determine my days. When they allow, Jennifer and I go and seek out fun..."

There's more she /can/ do, but some involve things she doesn't have access to. At least not immediate access!

Jubilation Lee has posed:
"I'm kidding, Mar-mar." Nicknames. Jubilee side grins at Marie, shaking her head, "Rogue is just my best friend... no elopement to the moon, no marrage." All for laughs, which fell far short of her designs where it pretains to the French mutant. "My powers.. I make colorful explosions." Downplaying it dramatically, finishing up a last circuit of the island before hopping over to the second half to repeat the cycle of farming trees.

"Sounds boring." Studying, anyways. "What kindo of fun? I like fun. Maybe the three of us... Four if Rogue comes... can go have fun." Only nominally paying attention other than by conversing, her eyes are firmly upon the screen. "Technically, it was your seat, I just needed it to play my game.. and in..." Glance at her watch, "Fifteen minutes, you can have it back. Because I need to shit and shower before work."

"Never go to work with a loaded belly."

Marie-Ange Colbert has posed:
Nicknames are something Marie's used to, Mar-Mar? Much better than some of the things she's been called! "Oh! So oui, just like Jennifer and I." So far, Jennifer's the one person who she drops the honoriffic for. "That sounds like a wonderful power!" she adds, turning once again to face Jubilee, hands demurely resting in her lap. "I..." she debates how to explain it. There's the school's explanation, and what she herself believes... and so the cards are consulted to decide. The Two of Wands comes up reversed, and she nods to herself. Her explanation it is.

"I have been given a blessing by Fate herself; she gives to me glimpses of the future, through the cards... and allows me to give them life, when I need to." she explains. Honestly, the way SHE puts it, she doesn't sound very mutant at all.

The scans that found her said otherwise.

"Well, just the other day..." she pauses and reconsiders. Should she tell what they did? They weren't really /supposed/ to... another quick glance at the cards. The tamer story comes forth. "...we played pool, just over there. It was my first time, but I still won!" Because Jennifer pocketed the eight ball too quickly. "I can certainly ask Jennifer. When fun is involved, she is almost always willing." Even if Marie struggles to see how things are fun, sometimes.

The last bit, however? Causes her to look away a bit, letting her hair fall over her face. "I... shall keep this in mind, if I get a job."

Jubilation Lee has posed:
Jubilee uh huhs mostly on reflex, which doesn't mean she's not listening, so much as she is focusing on her game. At least not until Jennifer stalls out when looking down at whatever card she initially pulled. The Asian glances to the side and raises a brow, then tilts her head. "What kind of voodoo magic did it say?" She wonders out loud, because she certainly doubts that a stall in conversation was warrent from playing pool.

"I can put in a good word for you at Burger Joint, anyways. We need a new window cashier and I'm sure that sweet ass french accent would upsell the heck out of some french fries, amirite?" stiffling a yawn in the lapel of her yellow jacket, Jubilee finishes her days worth of activity on Animal Crossing by watering her extensive garden. "Two more days and I can harvest..." Joy.

Shutting off the game once she's got herself inside her quant little house.

Marie-Ange Colbert has posed:
Marie furrows her brows a little at the 'voodoo' comment. "Voodoo is done with dolls, to harm people." she huffs. "The cards are divination. They share insight on the future, help to answer questions." ...and notably? Not directly answering the question. The cards told her not to, perhaps suggesting that Jubilee's eagerness to talk might end up throwing her best friend under a bus! ...or it might have just been her interpretation of a random draw.

"S'il vous plait, it would be appreciated, Mademoiselle Jubilee." she replies, turning her attention more fully to the other girl now that the game is off. Another card is drawn, another decision to make... and a quiet smile at the familiar sight of the High Priestess; the card she sees the most of herself in. With the meaning of retreating and reflecting on a situation herself, because things are not as they seem. "So... this is a game you play every day, then?"

She doesn't know how it works!

Jubilation Lee has posed:
"Is that so?" Jubilee turns off the controls and slides them back down on the side of the Switch so she can enjoy her last few minutes of freedom relaxing. Legs stretched out with her ankles turned in oposite directions and her hands resting together on her exposed middrift above her short shorts, "I thought voodoo was a combination of African mystical tribal magic with Judeo Christian influence on French controlled Haiti..." Absent, almost nonchallant, "But you learn something new everyday." Grinning over at Marie.

"No more good or bad than any religion, really... especially animism.." Yawning into her shoulder again, she lets her head lull back and eyes closed. "Hey, no problem, Mar-Mar. You'll love Burger Joint... I mean, honestly, I basically run the place anyways so if you want to start Tomorrow, just come by and pick up an apron before shift.. I'll make your nametag tonight."

Peeling one eye open, "Yes... but that's mine." Pointing at the Switch, "I bought it with my paycheck and don't have a TV in my room.. So if you do play it, make a new profile, and don't you dare save over mine... I don't mind sharing, but don't be a butthole. I'm two weeks into that game okay? That's basically my entire life right now."

Marie-Ange Colbert has posed:
Marie meanwhile, as she sits, is a bunch of yellow and black cloth that vaguely resembles a girl thanks to her head still being visible. "I only know what my grandmother told me of it... she suggested it was best avoided." the redhead replies -- all of her knowledge of the /general/ occult comes from her elderly relative, the tarot specifically? She's studied quite a bit on her own, as well.

Inclining her head to the side, Marie follows the subject change.. shuffling around a bit as she moves her legs to keep them from falling asleep in the slightly awkward position. "So you are the boss, then? How fortunate to have met you here! I will plan accordingly to do so." ...and as for the Switch? "It is okay. Though... it appears far more to my liking then The Doom." A thoughtful look offered here, "Perhaps, when you have more time to do so freely, you can show me how? I would not wish to harm your, ah, save accidentally..." ...and frankly, despite some initial misgivings Jubilee doesn't seem like she /dislikes/ Marie, so more social interaction might be for the best. Especially if this is her future boss.

Jubilation Lee has posed:
"Nah, I'm not the boss." Jubilee pops her gum, blowing a massive bubble that she chews back slowly with a pop that spreads it across her lips until she's cleaned it all off with her tongue, "I just manipulate the boss... or one of the managers anyways. Me or Rogue... you should see her work, it's freakin' magic." Grinning, head turned to one side to look at Marie.

"Well, you're going to love working at Burger Joint.. It's super easy work, barely anyone comes in now that Burger Time opened across the street." She sounds tired, lifting her wrist up to look at the face.. then flailing backwards like a limp fish, "But.. I have to go get ready. I tell you what, come by later with Jennifer and I'll give you two some frosties and fries... you'll love it. Let you try the merchandise before you start peddling it."

The asian hops up and does a little spinny turn on the wheels set in her heels, "It's nice meeting you Mar-Mar."

Marie-Ange Colbert has posed:
To Marie, Jubilee sounds and acts pretty similarly to Jenny; the cards aren't as sure of her as they were the blonde, but 'proceed with caution' is generally her favored speed when dealing with people anyways. "Well, from the sounds of it, I will see her perform her magic soon enough, oui?" she asks. Yep, Marie's been talked into a job, AND not asking permission to take said job, in one fell swoop. She's an easy girl to push, it only takes the slightest effort.

"I hope you are right, Mademoiselle Jubilee -- and I will inform her." She's pretty sure that Jenny will approve of free junk food, but it never hurts to ask. "I suspect you will see us later."

...and now that her former seat is cleared? She's going to return to her feet, curtsey politely to the younger girl, and smile. "It was a pleasure meeting you as well."

Jubilation Lee has posed:
Jubilee puffs her bottom lip out, taps her glasses down with a finger, and walks a few steps towards the door only to lift her feet and roll out into the hallway on her heels, Watch it Jubilee! one of the staff, "Sorry!" shoutted in return as she makes her way up stairs to get a shower before heading to work!
