Cast of Characters: Clint Barton, Lara Croft

Clint Barton has posed:
The Avengers are Earth's Mightiest Heroes, or so they are often times proclaimed as. Thor can move worlds, Hulk is unfathomably strong, Tony could probably buy the solar system, and Steve could lead wars. Whenyou got guys like Clint Barton, AKA Hawkeye, and other 'normal' people, you get by with nit, grit, and spit. Hawkeye has a bow and arrow, maybe the best marksman on earth. But unlike the others, who have natural superpowers, Clint needs to keep his skills sharp.

Cue the range.

Clint was taking pot shots at the target across the way. About 100m, not too shabby. Good enough to keep his eye sharp and his hands in their use. The target was filled with arrows, each crosshair having multiple arrows dead center into it. He hasn't missed once yet. In this line of work, you can't miss. But Clint is still drawing and shooting, not pausing to see the result or the impact, he's just firing.

He seems to be alone at the moment, just indulging in his own training.

Lara Croft has posed:
Lara is definitely not an avenger. She has the money to replicate an Iron Man suit, but not the super-brains. She has the Charisma to lead, but not the inclination. She's another normal person--if being super rich, collecting ancient artifacts, and being a Dutchess counts as normal. She's got on hearing protection largely because this is a gun range. However, as she moves through the range herself, she's holding a bow that was given to her. A compound bow, it's the last out of place of her various bows she's collected. She stops as she notices an arrow fly. She walks along the row of people firing firearms and some more exotic energy weapons to the source of the arrow.
Standing behind Hawkeye, she waits to watch him take another shot. After all, a hundred meters is quite an impressive mark, and if anyone can make that twice, she wants to see it.

Clint Barton has posed:
Clint was more of a recurve bow kind of guy himself, though he was skilled in all kinds of bows. He draws an arrow, and he pulls it back on the string after knocking it in, and he holds it there for a moment. He's taking a specific kind of shot, the kind of shot that all the scientific shots would label 'impossible'. 100m is nothing to scoff at, sure, but Clint always held himself to a higher standard than most.

He was hard on himself.

He takes that deep breath, steadying himself, a shot he could make in the blink of an eye, but his movements are natural. He takes a second longer than usual before he releases his grip on the arrow, the tool flying through the air in a straight line before it hits the same mark twice, splitting the arrow dead center where a previous arrow had met the same mark.

Perfect.

Clint clears his throat after the shot. "Enjoying the show?" he asks of Lara, turning to face her with a friendly smile on his face.

Lara Croft has posed:
Lara watches the arrow fly. When it splits the first arrow, she realizes she's being watched, even before Clint speaks to her. When he does, she responds quickly. Even that shot was part of the conversation. "Oh, certainly," she says with a smile. "Hawkeye, was it?" she remembers, extending a hand and a smile.

Clint Barton has posed:
"Yeah, that's what they call me in the field."

Clint turns and offers her his hand, giving her a firm handshake. "Name's Clint." He looks at her for a minute. "Lara, right? I read your file at some point I feel like. You've been through some mean bushes in the past few years." he tells her with a smile. "and a little overqualified for an archeologist." He teases her ever so slightly.

He turns his head towards the targets, looking at his work. "Hmm...was hoping the arrow would go -through- the target. Oh well, should just make sharper arrowheads."

Lara Croft has posed:
Lara nods. She looks beyond Clint to the target. "You're very impressive," she says. "I don't know if could even hit the target at all at this distance." She moves into the firing range bit with him. She looks at him briefly before lifting her bow and an arrow. "May I?" she asks.

Clint Barton has posed:
Clint follows her eyes to the target, and he seems to step back from her so she can take her position. Clint guides the bow to a resting position on the ground and keeps his quiver on his back, crossing his arms over his chest to watch her shoot, seeing this as a potential teaching experience....or rather, a chance to see how good Lara really was. "Oh, by all means. I won't stop you." He smiles at her, and turns his attention down the range.

Could she hit the mark?

Lara Croft has posed:
Lara squints at the target. She raises her bow. It's obviously been modified. Lara's arm muscles tense as she draws the fairly high draw weight. Not nearly as high as Hawkeye can handle, but not as much as Lara might be able to handle, either. She raises her angle up, judging as best as she can. She holds the arrow for a few seconds before letting go. The arrow arcs up, barely missing the ceiling before coming down and skidding along the floor just shy of the target. A few seconds later, it skids to a stop. "Hmmm," she says, calmly.

Clint Barton has posed:
Clint watches Lara take her shot as she raises her angle up, and he watches the arrow fly upwards, barely missing the ceiling before it comes down and skids along the floor for a few seconds. Clint sees the issue, or at least he believes he does.

"You can't doubt the shot." He approaches Lara, hands extended, as if to touch, before he pauses in his hands. "May I?" He questions her, his hands raised not to touch inappropriately, but to guide her hands where they should go, and how far back her hand -must- go for this distance.

Lara Croft has posed:
Lara nods and lets him. Her bow is not as strong as his bow, but as she tries again, Clint will be able to notice her shift slightly before the arrow is released. Her arrow manages to embed itself in one of the dangling light fixtures. The light sparks, then goes out. Lara clears her throat. "Not my best shot," she admits.

Clint Barton has posed:
"Trust the shot."

Clint repeats, and even as she takes another shot and it hits a light fixture. "Well, even if you hit the broad side of a barn, you still hit something. Here..." He reaches for her arm, a hand on her hip as if to steady her while a foot widens her stance ever so slightly, and a hand hooks around her pulling arm to draw her elbow back ever so slightly. "Make it fly in a straight line. Hold your breath to avoid shaking." He noticed that shift, to be sure.

"Don't shift. Stay still. You're not putting more accuracy or force into it by moving. Deep breath...then release."

Lara Croft has posed:
Lara doesn't seem uncomfortable with him guiding her for instruction purposes. She's got plenty of confidence, but it is an incredibly long shot. She takes a slow intake of breath through her nose and lets it out pursed lips. She takes in another deep breath and holds it to pull the bow back. She seems to be about at the limits of the bow when she lets the arrow fly. She doesn't let out her breath right away. She continues to hold it as the arrow sails through the air. It just catches the lower edge of the target, at which point Lara exhales a bit. "That is a hard shot!" she admits.

Clint Barton has posed:
"Hm."

Clint smiles as he watches her take that shot. She hits the target at least! It hits the lower end, but she still hits the target. "See? You got it. Just gotta end that shift before you shoot, it's taking out your shot." Clint tells Lara with a small smirk, before he picks up his bow, draws an arrow. In a second, it's knocked and fired at the target, hitting it dead center once again.

Bullseye.

"That's just where practice comes in."

Lara Croft has posed:
Lara takes a step back. "Thank you," she says. She looks at the light and sighs. "I should go file a report about that," she says. She looks at Clint. "Hey, would you be willing to tutor me? I'm always willing to improve my skills, and from what your file says, you're supposed to be the best bow shot on record. Can't get much better tutor than that."
