Contempations and Computers
Date of Scene: 15 December 2021
Location: Computer Hall
Synopsis: Jimmy Hudson and Monet talk about camraderie. Monet is less than thrilled.
Cast of Characters: Jimmy Hudson, Monet St. Croix

Jimmy Hudson has posed:
The computer lab is always warmer than the rest of the mansion. Likely something to do with the myriad of power supplies and fans pumping out a smidge more heat than the rest of the rooms. Also the fact that the room is often closed up, the door locked, so that the students only have access during school hours. Though today the door is wide open after usual hours, the lights are on and inside... there's the sound of someone tending to matters.
It had started with one of the students' parents asking if they got the parts for a PC then if staff would handle the assembly. A few people stepped up volunteering, offering their time and expertise though as things often do so during the holidays... time became in rare supply.
Until a week and some before the holiday, James decided to sit down. He brought his laptop which is currently playing a myriad of 'how to' videos while he's got the parts out on the central lab able. Some packaging is strewn about the room, and the parts are at least nice and orderly as he has the case set up before him...
Sometimes he leeeeans over to consider the laptop and pauses it, then he fiddles with something in the case, then he leeeans on back and hits play once again.
Eventually he grunts with some small measure of annoyance, yet he hammers on.

Monet St. Croix has posed:
Currently Monet St. Croix is over at a computer, typing. She appears to be going through Colonial era census records and estimates for the population of New York City. Various screens are flashing with documents from the era as she's rapidly reviewing them, committing them to memory as she would go through data. Looking at other documents for margins of error, divergent estimates, and alternate records as they would rapidly flicker on the screen and dance as they would rapidly be dismissed in turn, her analysing the data within a few moments of it coming up.
As Jimmy is there working on the laptop, Monet keeps a neutral face, as is her norm. Finally she would acknowledge, "Hudson." Without turning her head over to face him, merely the reflection of her face in the computer screen as the last of the documents she had been reviewing would be dismissed.

Jimmy Hudson has posed:
James' voice lifts in reply in that casual tone as he murmurs, "Hudson, sir. He's Hicks." Even as he works on the computer case and very carefully pushes the memory stick into its place in the motherboard. Then he's back leaning over at the laptop to see the next steps he needs to take for assembling the PC. His brow knits, his expression remains fairly stern...
Then he tilts his head to the side and considers Monet's reflection in one of the powered down monitors. "What are you workin' on, Monet?"
Casually tossed those words are left there as he leans back and pushes the case around a little, shifting the angle as he starts to weave wiring through the needed hooks and connection points to get it set. Lightly he pushes in a small button on the power supply to show activity... and it shows live. Which causes him to smile a little.

Monet St. Croix has posed:
Without glancing over her shoulder, Monet would arch a brow in very, very light inquiry, "Hudson is your last name according to your records." Still not looking over her shoulder at him, letting her eyes continue to look at the computer screen and using the reflection for the equivalent of face to faace contact, even while bringing up fresh, and seemingly unrelated tabs to her previous work on the computer.
"I was involved in a prior discussion to which I did not have the specifics at hand. I am remiss to make statements of facts that do not have a degre of accuracy to them."

Jimmy Hudson has posed:
Whatever little joke he was making at least seems to amuse himself a little. Just a very little since his lip curves up ever so slightly. But then he takes a deep breath before answering her with that casual calm tone he uses when tacitly performing the role of school teacher. "You are correct, Hudson is my last name."
He continues to work on the wiring in the case, which takes a few moments longer than he'd like, but he does have enough wherewithal to keep one ear open for her.
"Alright, so you were in a conversation and didn't know something." He pauses to twist in his seat a little. "Go on?"

Monet St. Croix has posed:
Monet would evaluate for a moment, seemingly unaware of the joke but not bothering to make an inquiry/correct him further before giving a very faint shrug. Finally going to shut down the browser and turn in her chair to face him.
"While unlikely to require it, I have the data should the topic of conversation come up again and I can give proper details of it."

Jimmy Hudson has posed:
Whatever it is it's not registering with him as he looks at her steadily, brow furrowed and the expression in his calm blue eyes akin to something like puzzlement. He undoes the static strap off his wrist and gives her his full attention, rounding in his chair and crossing a boot over his knee.
"So..." He looks down at what she may have been working on then back to her, "Good? For you?" Then he curls a slight half-smirk, "M'sorry, Monet. Mebbe I'm missin' somethin' here?"

Monet St. Croix has posed:
Monet St. Croix would shake her head, "Not in the slightest. I did not have data during a previous discussion on a subject. I cannot tolerate myself elaborating on a fact when I do not have explicit information. Therefore, I remedied my lack of knowledge on the specifics. Do you not do such a thing?" A flat inquiry with -almost- a tone of amusement if one could read her facial expressions.

Jimmy Hudson has posed:
"Well," Jimmy leans against the back of his chair, fingers interlacing as his eyes remain on hers. There's a brief moment when his gaze lowers to her lips as if trying to follow whatever path her mind's taking by getting some insight there. But that's not entirely helpful, "Sometimes I'm alright with acceptin' that I don't know a thing. If someone gives me their perception of that thing that's welcome, but I don't seek out answers all the time."
His brow lifts as he gives that concept a thought, fingertip lifting to scritch along the stubble of his jaw. "I suppose I should, but I suppose it depends on how important I gauge a thing in my life."
He shifts on his seat slightly, facing her more directly. "Like if I don't know the mating habits of a horseshoe crab, I'm ok with not knowin' that. But if there's some guy that's out to shoot me and mine, then I'll wanna know everything I can about the guy. Right?"

Monet St. Croix has posed:
Monet St. Croix would maintain a gaze with Jimmy over. Her expression flat over but with a dry hint of amusement, even if mostly veiled and difficult to notice. "In that we are different. At least for my own evaluation I cannot tolerate such a thing from myself." Her not adding 'I find it wasteful that others do not do the same' but it likely there in the faint changes in her face. But not spoken out loud nor 'thought' at all. What passed for politeness from her.
"Small details can always be critical. It can be a simple matter and some research to find them, even if not known at the immediate time then to have them available later should the specifics be required. It is also a way to improve oneself." There was the light lecture. But the smugness in her voice would be kept restricted and it would come out neutrally in tone.
    Mostly.

Jimmy Hudson has posed:
"Well then, I guess we're lucky to have you along fer the ride, M." Jimmy offers in reply, his half-smile still a little crooked as he almost essentially tells her that he's /entirely/ okay with some level of ignorance? The cad!
But it doesn't seem to bother him, nor that ever so subdued admonishment tinged with smugness. He, at the least, takes her as he finds her.
Then he gestures with a hand toward himself and then her, "Was there somethin' else you were tryin' to convey? Or just makin' a social commentary on us mere mortals?"

Monet St. Croix has posed:
Monet's expression would shift ever slightly, a shift in her body language indicative of annoyance but repressed. "It is a simple thing to counteract. Merely to reflect upon things that one has been aware they are not familiar with and to when available research them."
Her smugness is at least mostly repressed (as far as Monet is concerned with herself) to a polite level.
"Do not imply a perspective upon me that is not present." She does not state 'that is entirely rude' but it's there in her veiled body language.

Jimmy Hudson has posed:
A soft exhalation of breath is given, a thing that might be a laugh if it was given just a little bit more effort. But he doesn't. Instead he shakes his head and says, "I'll do any such implying that I want. But that was more.. teasing?"
He crinkles his nose, looking thoughtful as he considers. "You see, M. You take yourself very seriously. Which just draws out the kneejerk reaction and desire to give you a hard time because of it. It's like seeing a lengh of bubblewrap with all the bubbles unpopped. There's a desire to push those buttons."

Monet St. Croix has posed:
Monet would just narrow her eyes ever slightly in response, "So you find it amusing to belittle another merely for having a different perspective on things than you do? How enlightened if that is how you amuse yourself."
Now there's a little more judgement in her eyes of light irritation. "Yes, and I do not particularly -care-. Their opinions of me do not matter to me. I do not seek their approval. If they think the less of me then that is a failure in their own judgement, but not of my own."

Jimmy Hudson has posed:
"Ehn, I think you're comin' at it from the wrong angle." Even as she ever so slightly bristles, Jimmy seems to just roll along with it, his manner fairly rock steady and imperturbable. At least so far. He reaches over, turning away then, to close the lid of his laptop before he turns back to look at her.
"It's no belittling, it's a way to build camaraderie. A connection. It's when you express positive feelings for a person in a friendly way by giving them a hard time. You think Rogue and I don't like each other even though we give each other grief now and again?"
Shaking his head, "Nah, we're good friends. This, is sort of me saying, 'Hey, relax. We're all friends here.'" A small shrug is given, "But ehn."

Monet St. Croix has posed:
There is an ever light flicker and shift of Monet's facial expressions over. Enough to indicate light confusion for her which quickly would be suppressed by the generally unemotive girl. It would shift over to a sigh and then an expression that was difficult to read.
"I.. Appreciate the ttempts to be inclusive with me." No sort of real elaboration given. No thanks. No dismissal of it. No eavsion. No explanation or elaboration on her part. But no belittling in her voice or expression.

Jimmy Hudson has posed:
"Here," Jimmy uncurls a hand, "Try it with me. Say something that's critical, that's got an element of truth, but also is gentle about me. Like..."
The Canadian mutant's eyes widen as he ponders, lifting his gaze upwards before he tilts his head back, "Say Jimmy, you gonna start shaving like an adult any time soon or you gonna just let it keep growing like some hillbilly for the most part?"
For a moment his gaze distances somewhere over her shoulder, "Or, say Jimmy. Maybe it might be a good idea to get someone better at computers to work on that PC. Like Lockheed." Since the little dragon is cute, but he's not exactly tech savvy.

Monet St. Croix has posed:
There's a final shift from Monet's face over to irritation that's blatant, "NO, I will not." She would get up, "I find my research here has been finished and I have no further use of it." She would get up and move to walk out with a moment, and then before she would depart she would turn to face him.
"I would suggest an electrolyte treatment. It lasts for longer and will mean that if you do not shave yourself for a week you will not be mistaken for one of those primates we faced in the Danger Room. I would suggest regular baths to further help but one thing at a time."

Jimmy Hudson has posed:
"See, perfect." Jimmy smirks as she gets up, "Now get on out of here and use your newfound powers for good. And if you get some spare time maybe go work out a bit since you are gettin' a lil bit of extra." Oh dang.
But after he says that he's already turning back to his laptop and popping it open.
