Synopsis: It's New Year and Thea brings Alexander to the New Year opening of the Verdant! Yay! No more being 'In Construction'
Cast of Characters: Alexander Aaron, Thea Queen

Alexander Aaron has posed:
New Year's Eve beckons and the evening feels like it has just started.
Verdant was alive and active and riotous with the crowd within enjoying the soft opening of the dance club for invite only recreation. Yet the way the place jumped and thumped with the steady rhythmic bass from the large speakers on stage, and the practiced way the staff handled the hectic demands of the year's end crowd? It was no wonder that Alexander commented sidelong to the Mistress of the Ceremonies, one Thea Queen.
"This place isn't bad!" Having to shout to be heard as they hover near the dance floor with the wash of the music and the heavy feeling of the speakers /thumping/ into their chests, it was true the draw had been strong.
And there were still more people outside that wanted in.
They had been there for two hours already, had enjoyed the growth of the crowd, had been sure to drink responsibly as it was important to make it last the night. Occasionally Alexander would have a red plastic cup of ice water that he'd share with Thea. And at other points there had been dancing. So much lovely dancing.
From afar there had been others that had come that noted her current boy. Old friends from school, new ones from the business she's worked on. Comments given. Asking who the blond youth was, how pretty he seemed in some ways. Old boyfriends likely shot scowling looks hither and yon.
And, to be fair, he did look good. Black leather pants, and a white buttoned up shirt. The collar was a little loose and a few buttons were undone making him look a bit disheveled. But his hair was spiky and almost looked like something out of a late 80s rock video.
    Still. Wasn't bad.

Thea Queen has posed:
Having decided that the Verdant wouldn't spend another year without at least the beginning of an opening was something that Thea had set her mind to. Which meant the last few weeks had been hectic enough. But now here they were. The opening was going steady, not many complaints about the little unfinished parts of the club here and there. Of course that the use of lighting helped in disguise that.

Smoke and mirrors. Like so much of her life was.

But tonight was one for celebration, and with the theme being the roaring 20s meant that Thea came dressed the part in a fringe flapper dress, dark red with geometric shapes. Elbow-length gloves are on her hands and her bob hair is combed neatly, a tiara about her forehead. She even brought a quellazaire even if no cigarette is on the end. But it's all about appearances!

And no, she hadn't told Alex about theme of the party. Look, she was busy! Or so she said..

"Now you can't use that joke anymore." What is she talking about?

Alexander Aaron has posed:
"That you /still/ hadn't been able to open after a year?" Alexander knew what she was talking about even as he enjoyed being in her orbit. It was nice... this change of pace. It was clear with the vibe and the procession of people that this was _her_ club and visitors and friends and colleagues would come up and pay homage to he hostess. Normally when he went to clubs he sort of drew people around him, enjoyed chatting with people and hearing their stories.
But here... Alex saw what it was for a socialite to hold court. And each time someone came up to ask of her about how she was doing, to greet her with those phantom double kisses the Europeans so love to use. He just enjoyed... being the man at her side. It had him smiling though he didn't entirely fit with the theme. He perhaps imagined he still made good window dressing for her soiree.
"I have never been more amused nor pleased to eat my words." As he says that he rests his hand on her hip and leans in to touch a small kiss to her cheek before he asks, "Can I get you anything? Another drink?" Since his own champagne flute was empty.

Thea Queen has posed:
Yes, euro kisses are part of any dainty club evening. At least chic ones! And tonight was all about chic. It's new year's after all. So indeed Thea holds court over the place, slightly leaned back on the counter, elbow back. A glass of juice next to her. No alcohol for this one. Not something she breaks even during New Year's. Or specially during New Year's. Addicts can't afford the luxury.

"Yes, that's right. You will have to find new jokes." A sagely nod out of Thea as a couple moves away after having greeted her with the normal niceties of 'How are you' 'Happy new year!' and all the rest. So mundane! But that can be good sometimes when people with their lives are always moving from threat to threat.

"Wait, why are you amused?" She then inquires, sharply trimmed brow arching up at Alexander. "And I could get a refill on the OJ." she then says, a glance back to the dance grounds. "Lets go hit it afterwards." she suggests.

Alexander Aaron has posed:
"That's gonna be hard, I don't know that many jokes." Alexander says as he crinkles his nose, standing there next to the counter of the bar. Something about him in those clothes with his hair like that, makes him look almost Bowie-like as he grins sidelong at her.
He reaches over to take up her glass and swirls it a little before he takes his champagne flute as well in the other hand. "I'm amused..." He says before stepping away, "Because I've never seen you like... in your element quite like this. It's eye-opening." A few steps back and then he pointedly looks her over in that flapper gear. Those pale hazel eyes drift down then back up. And once he meets her gaze again he's smiling, and biting his lower lip as he shakes his head slightly. "We'll dance when I get back."
Then he's turned away and walking to the other end of the bar where the tender is doing a brisk business. Once he's a small bit away from Thea he leans forward and sets the drinks down. "Orange juice and some champagne, please." He takes up a spot on the counter to lean there and wait.
Which is the moment when a tall raven-haired woman slides her own glass past Alex's shoulder, "Rum and coke, please." She says with an affected tone of some measure.
Likely there would be no conversation. Except she starts one as she murmurs, "So, Mr. Aaron, how do you know Thea?"
Which has him turning his head and looking at her, blinking a few times. Then he smiles that easily given smile that comes naturally to him. "Oh, we met through a friend. May I ask who you are?"
"Alicia. Good to meet you," She offers her hand, smiles a thousand dollar smile, "Which friend would that be perchance?"
"Oh it's been so long now, hard to recall?"
    Alicia smiles, a thin-lipped smile.
But then the bartender leans over and sets the glasses down in front of him. "Thanks!"
And with that Alexander turns to Alicia, "If you'll excuse me?"
Which then has him walking back across the way toward Thea once again.

Thea Queen has posed:
"Oh, getting an eyeful, are you?" Is Thea's answer to Alex when he speaks about his eye-opening experiences, the corner of her mouth quirking amusedly and she taking in the man from head to toe before laughing briefly. "And well, as they say, this is my actual superpower." she waving vaguely about the club with her quellazaire. "All the glamour. I grew up among it. Years of experience and all that." yes, being a social animal is part of her repertoire apparently.

But then Alexander is leaving to go get the refill and that means she takes to watch some of the party a bit, almost like a hawk. A smile to a passing young man that is cousin's to the roommate of an old boyfriend. Or that older woman who she used to see back in the AA meetings. To that one she lifts her glass in a salute. There's still a little OJ in the bottom so it's fine to salute with it! Which also means she ends it. And of course that she notes Alex talking out with that woman. It has her arch an eyebrow.

"See? Even you have friends here at this party." she comments, even there's curiosity in her tone.

Alexander Aaron has posed:
Drawing near he offers her the new juice and if she allows relieves her of the empty. He'll set that down at the end of the bar on the counter behind them and then he takes up his place properly there and at her side.
"Oh?" He says at first, then he adds, "Yes, she said her name was Alicia?" As he offer that name and then looks sidelong toward Thea, "And was asking me about myself, and how I met you." Which has him pointedly not looking in the Alicia woman's direction, but his features remain rather jovial as if they were discussing fripperies.
"I got the feeling she might take issue with you somehow? But that was just a vibe I got from her." And at times, Alexander's vibes can be rather right.
Then he affects a dismissive overly formal upscale accent to his tone of voice as he murmurs, "Of course I arranged a secret rendezvous where we'll fall into each other's arms or the like." A casual comment then he slips his hand into hers as he takes a step back and away from her, walking backwards that one step and meeting her eyes. "Unless you come dance with me and show me why I've fallen for you."

Thea Queen has posed:
"Alicia?" That has Thea look with more attention towards the woman. And then she lets out a 'Ahh..' what kind of a Ahh is it though? A bad one? She doesn't explain further about it, simply snorting and reaching to take her glass of OJ once again. Alex receives a brief kiss on the cheek for his troubles at least.

"Now that you are in my life you get all the sharks prowling about." She whispers to him while still close. When she leans back to her seat her eyes are dancing amusedly. "I am sure you thought you had it hard in your God parties. But think again." a faint grin to her expression as she teases the young man.

At the invitation to dance Thea then steps away from the counter, the OJ being left behind after a drink and she beginning to walk towards Alex while he brings them towards the dance floor. "Actions not words, eh?" she comments before they move to dance the night away.

Alexander Aaron has posed:
As Thea takes his hand and they make that small walk out onto the dance floor, it is a curious thing. He can feel the eyes on them, can catch that subtle undercurrent of anxiety and stress... and even fear from some. Fear for their place in the social hierarchy, fear about the loss of opportunity, fear of the unknown. It's all there in the young couple, the mysterious paramour who holds the Queen scion's hand. A scion who has emerged as so much more confident. So much more capable.
Turning his head, Alexander smiles gently, albeit crookedly. "I think it's not quite that..." What she whispers to him so lightly.
"I think..." He eases close and touches his lips to the corner of her mouth softly and then adds, "That they see us as the sharks."
He draws back and his hand slips from hers as he then adds, "For some reason!" Shouting to be heard over the music...
And it's a music that takes them off into the rest of the night.
