Date of Scene: 13 January 2022
Location: The Danger Room - Titan's Tower
Synopsis: No description
Cast of Characters: Kian, Roy Harper, Sarah Rainmaker, Kaida Connolly

Kian has posed:
    *klonk*
    *thwack*
Well, one out of two isn't bad.  Kian is airborne as usual, with his crossbow in hand.  His first shot was well wide of its target, but his second wasn't bad.
"/c'Rhys'yw/, that first shot was absolutely awful!" the birdman says by way of self-assessment. swiftly reloading.  He dives down to collect his previous shots, and does not comment on the second of them, which was merely acceptable.
Who would have thought that the pacifist birdman would have this hobby?

Roy Harper has posed:
Against wall, sitting on the floor is Roy Harper in his civvies. Next to him on the floor is his ever-present backpack stuffed with his ever-wrinkled uniform, as well as his bow. He is watching the flying Kian perform target practice.

"You're squeezing the trigger," he offers in a gentle voice. "You have to pull it. When you squeeze, you're giving a small amount of torque to the weapon."

Sarah Rainmaker has posed:
Watching the sharp-arrowing go on, Sarah Rainmaker would just inspect back and forth. "So.. Doesn't the crossbow have superior release velocity thanks to the springs providing the tension rather than the string and the hand?" SHe's just watching between hte two.

Kaida Connolly has posed:
Looking at the situation, Kaida hmms as she walks in, looking over Kian's attacks on the targets and watching him pull out his shots. She puts her hands on her hips, her left arm still in a brace but not in a sling any longer. She looks over toward Roy briefly and then notes Sarah.

"You're probably also overthinking it." She shrugs and looks to a spot near the wall and leans as she sets her shield casually down beside her. She crosses her arms as she does lean, looking up at the flying bird guy before shaking her head.

Kian has posed:
"I *am* pulling and not squeeZing," Kian complains, "but I'm still used to my world's gravity, not Earth's!"  He scowls at the targets.  "Everything falls faster here!  I'm used to it in the air, but I still expect things to behave like they do on my world."
He tries to act on instinct, firing the first shot almost blind -- *klonk* into the floor -- but the second nearly hits the center ring.
One could hardly tell that by Kian's reaction, entirely focused on the first shot as he dives for the floor.  "/c'Rhys'yw/!!  I think I broke the bolt!
Looks like he did.  It's visibly not straight.  "Ai, /qokh/!"

Sarah Rainmaker has posed:
Sarah Rainmaker would glance over at Kiada, "Release tension and force are very important for bolts. Higher force means higher speed and a flatter arc, which allows greater accuracy and penetration. So it's definitely overthinking it because it's what makes the weapons different." She would lightly chuckle.

"Which makes it easier to hti things."

Roy Harper has posed:
Roy is new around here and doesn't really want to (...wait for it...) ruffle any feathers. So he sits calmly on the floor watching Kian do his thing.

Kaida Connolly has posed:
A grin at Sarah and she tilts her head. Then she looks to Roy with a frown before shaking her head. She casually runs over to the broken bolt and looks at it before looking up directly at Kian. She grins at him.

"You have flown these skies for over a year, Kian." She nods her head, "You're using your mind too much to think about where the bolt should go and what it should do but you know what it'll do and where it'll go." She nods her head and points at him, "Your wings and your body know the gravity at this point. Stop thinking about where the bolt should go, just know." She then pulls her blade out and aims it ahead of her.

"I fight based on weight and gravity. Based on movement. I do not think about every strike, I simply become the strike." She grins, "When my opponent swings, I move like a drop of rain upon the wind of their fury." She looks over at Kian, "Flowing with their movements and acting. If I spent time thinking things out, I'd never move." She then points at the targets with a smile.

"Now, know the gravity and wind that you fly so happily through above the roof and fire the bolts."

Kian has posed:
Kian actually lands, and raises his wings high, closing his eyes and bowing his head.  "I don't fight, certainly not if I can avoid it.  I believe there are almost always more peaceful solutions."
He looks up and glares at the targets.  "Scoring, however, is another matter entirely, and I am not going to be beaten by something as simple as *gravity*.  Gravity has been my servant since my First Flight.  It's not going to beat me now."
He reloads his crossbow -- two bolts -- and kicks into the air again with a look of determination.

Sarah Rainmaker has posed:
Sarah Rainmaker is going to listen to Kaida, and would give a nod at her, "For the point of the weapon it's about the arc that it's pointed at. Physics. Evaluate air resistance, arc of release of weapon, gravity, angle of release, and power behind it. Then as you get more used to it simplify. It's physics."

Less high school math problem of lobbing a cannonball mind and more shooting an arrow to within a few centimetrs of accuracy however.

Kaida Connolly has posed:
A smile at Sarah and she nods, "I guess it is different for different people." She looks at her arm briefly, rubbing the brace lightly with a tiny hand before looking back at Kian kicking off. She shakes her head and steps back.

"My father taught me a great deal of martial arts." She nods her head and then looks back at him, "Later I learned with other people." She chuckles and then looks forward at Kian as he works, "I was always taught to fight from the feel and not from the mind."

Kian has posed:
Kian concentrates, and takes back to the air... and in fairly short order goes "/c'Rhys'yw/!!" as the first bolt strikes the ring just outside the center and the second strikes the outermost.
He lands again, glows blue, and the second target simply explodes.  "I don't have any trouble hitting it with my /rhy'thar/.  Well, this is why I don't use the /korak/ in the field.  I'm not as good at it as I was on my world.  /c'Rhys'yw/, I've been on Earth long enough that I shouldn't be this horrible at it, though!"

Sarah Rainmaker has posed:
Sarah Rainmaker would shrug, "It's a bit mor ethan that. It's fine control, which is always a ltitle trickier since it's not just moving. It's effecting how the bolt moves, the speed, the angle.. Even if just by a few percentpage points it throws it off a lot, particularly since you're having to learn a completely different style of physics. Everything is off. How your physiology has adapted, your sense of balance, senses.. Everything that by evolution has been primed for specific circumstances."

Kian has posed:
"I'm used to the fine control being automatic!" Kian complains, reloading his crossbow and taking to the air.  The bolts, it may have been noticed, are not only blunt-tipped but plastic-capped.  If he'd actually shot one at a person, it might have stung, no more.
he tries to take aim again -- second inner ring, and just outside the center.
    "Ai, /qokh/!!"
