The Iceman Abides
Date of Scene: 24 January 2022
Location: Ski Resort
Synopsis: Jubilee and Bobby Drake have a chat in the cozy lodge of the Killington ski resort. The jury is out on whether Bobby is technically a skier.
Cast of Characters: Jubilation Lee, Bobby Drake

Jubilation Lee has posed:
The sun has gone down a couple of hours ago, sending the Killington resort into a subtle hibernation compared to the chaos of the daytime. The lodge offers an idyllic place to relax after a long day spent on the slopes. A warm fire gathers people into large, comfortable armchairs arranged in a semi-circle nearby, while a cafeteria promises a louder, heartier experience with long tables and trays of food.

This evening, Jubilation Lee has claimed one of those arm chairs, though hers has been moved just a little bit further from the fire. She sits in it sideways with one bare leg hooked over the arm of the chair. She's dressed inappropriately for a nigh as cold as this one. A pink tank top, black spandex shorts, dangling flip-flops.

Jubilee seems to be... reading? That can't be right.

Bobby Drake has posed:
The door to the lodge opens to admit the cold night time air and the promise of a new arrival, and in this case, it is Bobby Drake. Similarly inappropriately dressed for such a night, he is wearing just a pair of pants and a t-shirt. The snow that had gathered on his feet and shoulders sloughs off as he enters, no need to stomp on the mat before coming in. The privilege of the vacation spot being literally within his element.
He casts a glance around at the lobby to see if any colleagues are lingering about, and spots Jubilee in the chair. And reading, no less. He makes his way over towards the fire and drops down into one of the chairs. "Anything interesting?" he asks, nodding towards the book.

Jubilation Lee has posed:
The book in question has to be about the furthest possible thing from any school textbook. It looks large, heavy, and not something one might find at the Xavier's library. The cover is thick and the pages have guilded edges, and a fabric bookmark, sewn into the binding, dangles. When Jubilee hears Bobby come over, her gaze looks up from the tome resting in her lap, and closes it with a loud THUMP.

"Oh, uh, not really," she answers. A lie, probably. She's not the best at those. Jubilation's eyes dart up and down as she inspects Iceman's attire. "You must be, like, /totally/ in your element," she decides, grinning a little, offering a quick glipse at those sharp canines.

Bobby Drake has posed:
Certainly, that type of word in the hands of anyone attracts some attention, and Bobby's gaze drifts over to try to catch the name of the tome from front or side. "Seems a bit hefty for nothing..." He arches an eyebrow slightly.
At the glance over, Bobby takes on a pose, making a ridiculous flex of his marginal biceps. "I mean, I can out endure anyone in this, yes. About the only time, but..." He flashes a grin back at her. "So I may as well take advantage of it, right?"

Jubilation Lee has posed:
"Oh..." Her eyes lower to the book -- truly a tome -- and moves her hands to obscure the cover as much as she can. The title of this book appears to be carved into the thick cover, rather than printed, blending seamlessly with the ancient pattern work that otherwise decorates the brown cover. No author is listed and the spine of the book is blank. Still, her hands aren't able to obscure the entire thing, and a few letters of the one word title are clearly visible...

Jubilee turns the book over to hide it properly and returns her attention to Bobby, that easy smile returning. "Hey, I say you should rock it whenever you can!" she agrees. Jubilee's foot bobs up and down, leg bent over the arm of the chair. "Though I bet this is all pretty boring for you. You gotta, like, work your stuff in Florida or something!"

Bobby Drake has posed:
As Jubilee seems intent on hiding the book, Bobby does look away as she turns it over. "Yeah, I suppose I could be of more use there. I am kind of redundant here." He waves his hands around to indicate the general vicinity.
He chuckles. "Now, if we were to take our holiday in the tropics, and I were to pull a small pool with ice to cool off - there I am serving a purpose!" He flashes an easy grin as he regards her. "Are you enjoying the trip so far?"

Jubilation Lee has posed:
Jubes grins. "Now you're talkin'!" she fires back. "Though, don't you ever just, like, 'be' ? You don't need a purpose except to brighten up our lives." The optimistic point is punctuated with an enthusiastic thumbs-up. The question about her own feelings on the trip, though, seems to stall Jubilee a little bit. The gregarious declaration about Bobby's purpose in life was easy. Her own feelings... not as much.

"It's okay. I'm kind of on an opposite schedule as everyone else, so..." Jubilee shrugs one shoulder and makes a rude sound effect with her mouth. "...That's life. Or, well, not life. You know what I mean."

Bobby Drake has posed:
"Oh, the Ice Man abides," replies Bobby, as he does some Lebowski worthy finger gestures. "And yeah, I just mean in general, when it comes to doing stuff. I find my place to be quite comfortable these days." He shrugs, his recline deepening as he studies her.
"I mean, nothing says we can't accommodate. You know, in my younger days, I was known as the kind of guy who could go all night."

Jubilation Lee has posed:
"Well, you never know what could be coming to shake things up for you!" Jubilee points out with a grin. "I mean, one day you could be minding your own business and then..."

    "BAM!"

She slams her fist into the palm of her hand to accentuate the point. "...Suddenly your whole life changes." She wags a finger of warning. "It could happen."

Other teenage girls might look away as they feel those eyes inspecting her, but Jubilation doesn't. She doesn't look away, doesn't flinch, she just...sits, cool as a cucumber. "I have a question to ask you, Bobby, and the answer is SUPER important." She suddenly bounces up, now seated in a kneeling position and facing Iceman. "...Skier or snowboarder?" she questions, eyebrows hiked.

Bobby Drake has posed:
A soft chuckle. "You mean like waking up one day and turning someone into an ice cube?" Bobby smirks a bit. "All of us had our whole life change when we discovered our nature, so I would wager that we understand what that is like more than anyone else would. I think the important question is, how are /you/ handling it?" His tone is open and friendly - clearly, he is trying to project a sense that he earnest cares about her response.
He chuckles softly at the change of topics, and flashes a grin. "Both, of course." Then another grin. "In either case, sans equipment."

Jubilation Lee has posed:
Jubilation brings her fingertip up to her mouth and taps thoughtfully. "Hm. Is Bobby Drake a skier...? I mean, technically, is it even skiing if you're not wearing skis..." Jubilee mutters lazily, pretending she can't be heard. "...I'll have to check on that." Jubes turns back to Bobby and shrugs one shoulder.

"I'm okay," Jubilee answers, her tone taking on some notes of suspicion. She stares at Bobby for a second or two and then folds her hands across her chest. "You mean...Because of..." She opens her mouth and presses the pad of her index finger against one of her fangs. "...This..."

"I am dead. A monster. I consume the blood of the living and am driven by an insatiable need to kill..."

"But, I'm hotter than ever, so, I got that goin' for me!"

Bobby Drake has posed:
"My feed are all I need, so I suppose I am just a 'slider'", Bobby says, making the air quotes with his fingers.

"I wouldn't jump to saying you're a monster. Surely you are not indiscriminately killing for the blood."
A smile crosses his face. "At least you have an upbeat take on it - there are certain benefits, I suppose." He sighs softly and stands up. "I, unfortunately, have to head off and arrange for some snow buckets." He stretches for a moment. "Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help with ..." He waves his hand vaguely. "Your situation."

Jubilation Lee has posed:
Jubilee's eyebrows rise. "Yeah, sure. Upbeat Jubilee. That's me..." she quietly replies, her voice trailing off there. She looks away, just for a moment, staring at the crackling fire. Suddenly, she perks up again and tilts her head a little towards one of her shoulders. "Have a fun time with your buckets," Jubilation adds with a little bit of a grin.

With that, she settles back into her armchair and opens the heavy, mysterious book to the page held by the fabric bookmark...
