Synopsis: Two very tired superheroes get together for snacks and snuggles.
Cast of Characters: Peter Parker, Kara Danvers

Peter Parker has posed:
It's an odd view from the roof of the house at 20 Ingram Street. If you look to the north, you can see the trails and streets used by refugees. He figured Hyperloop travel has quadrupled one way - OUT. If you look west, you can see the lights of Manhattan Island. But these lights are fires, signal lights, and windows of holdouts and survivors.

Welcome to New York...the BAKED Apple.
Aunt May was Zooming every day, asking how things were going, what was true in the news, what was false, was he okay, is he eating well, is he taking care of the house. He asked her how she was, was she doing okay living on a houseboat in Fort Lauderdale, had she visited Slip F-18 in Bahia Mar yet, was she adapting to life as a lady beach bum.
Aunt May asked how Kara was doing, and he had been telling her about how tough travel was being, that she was busy reporting the news...and nothing about when she MADE the news.

He disconnected, sighed, then looked at the screen. It had been a good 24 hours...maybe, just maybe, she wasn't saving the world right now?

<Hey...it's Peter. I know you're busy trying to manage all this Angel fallout in Metropolis. But I miss you, and I hope you're okay.>

SEND, and then look out at the western sky.
"Heavenly shades of night are falling," he whispered softly, "it's...twilight time..."

Kara Danvers has posed:
It wasn't just Manhattan that was feeling the effect of the Angels. In addition to regular crimes and disasters to stop, Kara's been dealing with all sorts of situations with citizens going off the deep end; in Metropolis as well as NYC. And about a minute after Peter sends the text, there's a knock on the back door of the Parker house. When he opens the door, Peter sees Kara in her civies, but there,s something off. Her shirt isn't all the way fastened and part of her costume's collar can be seen. Her wig isn't on perfectly straight. And Peter can't remember Kara ever looking so tired before. She's slouching from actual fatigue, rather than an affectation for her disguise. But, when she sees Peter, the sparkle returns to Kara's eyes and she manages a smile for him. "Hey," she says wearily.

Peter Parker has posed:
Peter practically YANKS Kara in, closing the door behind her and then hugging her tightly. "KARA..." he says, in a rush of breath. "Oh, God, I'm SO glad to see you!" He looks at her. "Wow. Jeez, I thought *I* was tired." He looks around. "Let's go downstairs. The view from here is depressing..."

Kara Danvers has posed:
Kara smiles and gently kisses Peter once she's inside. "I don't know..." she murmurs as she looks at him. "I kinda like the view right now..." Then, she leans into Peter and hugs him tight. "Everyone's tired," she replies. "Between the evacuations, the oportunistic criminals, and the doomsday cults..." Kara keeps up the tight embrace, taking solice and strength from Peter. She's not crying, but she is distraught enough to be shaking.

Peter Parker has posed:
Peter nods. "<It's not the end of the world, Kara Danvers.>" His Kryptonian was improving. He'd had a lot of time to practice.
He gently guides Kara to the stairs, and then down the stairs into...

...well, THIS is different.
It was the same lab, but a lot of stuff had been added. Some of it decidedly high-tech. An autoclave near the chemistry station, a few devices to study phased energy emissions, and...
...Yep. Peter's lab now has an actual electron microscope.

Is there such a TV show called "Pimp My Laboratory?"

Kara Danvers has posed:
Once the shock of seeing modern lab equipment in the 'Spider Cave' wears off, Kara smiles at Peter before resting her head on his shoulder. "Wow. Serious upgrade...Did you get a grant from Stark or Wayne for all this?" She walks around on her own power and examines all the new toys closely. "You've definately got a better setup than the NYPD now, I'd say."

Peter Parker has posed:
For a few moments, Peter just...watches Kara. Realizing how much he missed her. How much the world needed someone like her.
And she chose him.

"Well...actually, it was Dr. Reed Richards. Apparently the 'good word' you put in with the Titans wrangled me an invite with a number of geniuses, including Nadia van Dyne and Dr. Richards, to see if we could try to find something to use against the 'Angels.' Even though we know they are not angels. Someone got a glimpse of what could be their true form, and it looks less divine and more Lovecraftian."

Kara Danvers has posed:
Kara nods, half-listening as she makes her way to the couch and slumps down onto it. "That's still not going to stop the religious fanatics from believing this is the Endtimes." She deflates in a shuddering sigh. "The cults and individuals that are convinced that Judgement Day is cominc and are ready to meet it.: She shuts her eyes tight, mostly managing to hold back some tears. "I had to stop a father from killing his entire family today." Her voice is distant, lonely. "He wanted them to go to heaven before they could be judged with the rest of humanity..."

Peter Parker has posed:
Ohh yeah, she didn't come here to see the shiny stuff. She needed Boyfriend Time, and he was slacking off. Time to catch up.
Peter settled on the couch next to Kara, sliding an arm around her and the other across her body, holding her close, but not tightly this time.
"I'm sorry, Kara. That must have been shocking to deal with." He looked at her until those blue eyes open again, then kisses her cheek gently. "I've been going into Manhattan myself, trying to do what I can. I'm seeing a lot of what you're seeing, only in smaller batches, but more of them. But you are doing your best, Kara. Never forget that."

Kara Danvers has posed:
"I konw," Kara syas as she slides her head onto Peter's chest, snuggling up with him. "I konw I can't save everyone. I can only do so much; even with all the power I have. But this..." Kara shakes her head, and she's never felt so fragile before to Peter. She's not the confidant Girl of Steel; just Kara Zor-El. "Peter...This is the kind of stuff that happened on Krypton near the end. A breakdown of community and order. Nihilistic cults and doomsday prophets... I...I never thought I'd have to go through it all again..."

Peter Parker has posed:
Peter nods. "The planet's been through times like this before. Not a bunch of ersatz angels, but not too far from it." The hug tightens for just a few moments. "But it's not going to end like Krypton. I promise you that. All I am going on is what I believe. My faith in God...who has nothing to do with this, I promise you that...faith in Dr Richards and the others working to fight them off, to send them away once and for all. And when we do...not *if,* but *when*...then we'll rebuild. We'll put the city together again."

Kara Danvers has posed:
Kara nods, smiling and looking relieved. She exhales calmly, snuggling in closer to Peter. "Well. I have faith in you." she replies, and gives her boyfriend a kiss for emphasis. "Between all of you scientists, this is going to get figured out. I know this isn't the end for Earth and the human race. It's just...hard. Living through societal trauma like this again. But I konw, deep down, there's going to be a future for all of us."

Peter Parker has posed:
Peter nods, returning the kiss lightly. "I get it. But I know you can handle nearly anything. And if you get overwhelmed...you can always come back her, scrunch up on these cushions, and I'll feed you snacks until you feel better." Peter winked. "I actually have some leftover pizza in the fridge, if you're hungry."

Kara Danvers has posed:
Kara smiles, closes her eyes, and rolls her head to stretch out her neck. "Do I also get to be fanned by a servant in a loincloth with a fan of peacock feathers?" she asks with an impish look on her face.

Peter Parker has posed:
Peter tilted his head, looking at her for a second or two.
"Ah, heck with it. If it makes you feel better, I'll give anything a shot. As long as I don't have to harm any peacocks in the process."

Kara Danvers has posed:
An honest giggle escapes Kara and she gives Peter another kiss. "I'll just settle for cold pizza, resting my head on ou, and streaming something on Netflix. Deal?"

Peter Parker has posed:
"Okay, now THAT I can do right now. Give me a couple of minutes."

Peter carefully extricates himself from around Kara, then gives her a fluffy white blanket to snuggle under while he goes to grab pizza. As he heads up the stairs, Kara hears him say under his breath, "I wonder where a guy can get a loincloth these days. It's not like I have any pride left..."

Kara Danvers has posed:
"It's not that you don't have any pride left, Peter," Kara says teasingly as she stretches out on the couch. "It's that whatever pride you do have left kinda belongs to me, yeah?" Another giggle and Kara watches Peter as he goes to schlep food and drink for her. And she starts thinking of ways to make this up to him, the endless reserve of comfort and strength that he provides her with.

Peter Parker has posed:
Peter heads up to the kitchen and pulls out half a large pizza. double deef and bacon - what he calls the "bacon double cheeseburger pizza."
He pops it in what looks like a toaster oven, but sets it for 400 and it gets there in three seconds flat. Peter must have "upgraded" it. He whistles as he takes out two cherry Cokes, then gathers up the now-hot pizza, balancing it all as he heads down the stairs.

If his science geek job doesn't hold up, he'd make an ace waiter.
Peter puts down the pizza box in front of Kara, then places one bottle of cherry Coke next to it. "Eat up. I had the other half while working on the Belief project I'm doing with Dr. Richards."

Kara Danvers has posed:
Kara smiles and takes a long pull at the bottle of soda. "Anything I can help with?" she looks at Peter with hopeful eyes. "I'd like to be doing something to help end the crisis, instead of just doing damage control. I want to do more than just slap band-aids on the surface problems."

Peter Parker has posed:
Peter looks thoughtful. "Well, we're working on what Donna Troy called Project Gozer. Yeah, after the bad guy/girl/whatever in that movie GHOSTBUSTERS. You could talk to Donna, though. I'm working the coding for what we've been calling the Belief Engine. Donna would know better where you could provide the most help." He smiles to Kara. "I know you'd be awesome doing anything, but I'm extremely biased."

Kara Danvers has posed:
Kara gets a smug smile on her face. "Well, I suppose I am that good at just about everything..." She's teasing with the false modisty, of course. But Peter does get her head nestled against his chest and her arms hugging his waist in exchange for the compliment. "I'll chat with Donna when there's time, then. Right now, though, I just want to focus on you and I."

Peter Parker has posed:
Peter nods. "I am all about that tonight, Kara." He began to stroke her brown hair. He pauses for a moment, then gently slides it off to place it next to Kara on the couch, and then he is lightly stroking her tousled blonde hair. "Just not the same touching the wig..." he says softly.

Kara Danvers has posed:
Kara smiles and relaxes under Peter's hand brushing her hair. "Hopefully, my real hair feels better..." she says gently. She sighs, which turns into a yawn. "Is it wrong for me to just want to stay like this for the rest of the year? You're really comfy."

Peter Parker has posed:
Peter smiled sadly. "Unfortunately, Spider-Man can't take any time off. But you're welcome to come any time. You can use the secret hatch in the back. It's held down by the heavy bag, so the hatch weighs 500 pounds...but I doubt it would be too much for you. Just send me a text that you need Snuggle Time, and if I don't have prior obligations...or, you know, too many broken bones...I can be here for you. And you don't have to worry about dressing up here. Aunt May is down in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Ted offered her free living space in a houseboat down there while this Angel mess is going on."

Kara Danvers has posed:
Kra nods and sighs in relief. "Well, I'm glad she's safe. That's one less worry for you." And for kara as well. "I'll keep track of Fort Lauderdale news, incase I need to get down there in a hurry." She smiles, and reaches up to stroke Peter's hair and cheek. "And you let me know if you need a Kryptonian nurse to help you with any broken bones..."

Peter Parker has posed:
Peter winked. "If I have to wear the loincloth, then *you* have to wear the nurse uniform. I mean...it's only fair." He takes a deep breath. "Well, I can't cook like Aunt May, but she did teach me a few things. If you come by tomorrow night, I'm making fried chicken, baked asparagus and bread stuffing to carb it out a little."
