Cast of Characters: Peggy Carter, Jessica Drew

Peggy Carter has posed:
While it's a bit of a painful commute, Peggy likes her and Daniel's home. So the nights they end up working in the city, they normally go home to the house on Long Island instead of back to the Triskelion. That's where Peggy is now, fresh out of a post-work shower, in far more comfortable clothing than she was in the rest of the day. Tonight it's a pair of Daniel's flannel pajama pants and an oversized sweater that well hides the areas of her form that have become more generous over the last few weeks.

Jessica Drew has posed:
It was a near-perfect trip from Manhattan to Long Island. The Queensborough Bridge moved more or less fluidly for late rush hour traffic, which gave Jessica time to watch the sunset in a glory of pollution over the Hudson. We find our blessings where we can. GPS gets her to the sweet suburban home, giving the agent another view of their Chief. It reminds her of England; she likes it.

Jessica bustles up the sidewalk to the front door, balancing a pinot noir from New Zealand with several paper bags clutched in the other hand. She rings the front doorbell and steps back, feeling the warmth of the food through her winter coat.

Peggy Carter has posed:
Expecting the younger agent, Peggy isn't too long to the door. She pulls it open with a quiet smile -- tired, but earnest. "Jessica. Thank you for coming all the way out. I know it's... rather a hike, but I figured it might be more relaxing than hunting for a restaurant up in Westchester." Not to mention the fact that Peggy had already commuted home.

She opens the door the rest of the way. The inside of the house looks very stuck in the 1950s but also very well loved. The mess on the dining room table says that Peggy has been working from here a fair amount and there's already a pot of tea brewing.

Jessica Drew has posed:
Smiling broadly, Jessica crosses the threshold, assuring Peggy, "It absolutely wasn't a problem. I divide my time between Murray Hill and Chelsea so getting across the bridge is easy. You're quite close, you know. Besides, don't tell the Chief," she whispers, "it's an excuse to get away from the office."

Holding up the bags, "Where should I put these? I brought dimsum. Are you up for that, Chief?"

Peggy Carter has posed:
A smirk crosses her lips at the woman's comment about the Chief, "Yes, well, good. Come in, sit down. Would you like some tea? The hot water is already on. And dim sum sounds lovely. Daniel's on the supply run tonight and he normally cooks. No one trusts me in the kitchen. So... yes, come in. Sit. I can take those bags." Peggy reaches over, trying to help the other woman with the hot food. She brings into the retro kitchen, pulling out some platters to serve it on.

Jessica Drew has posed:
Not following orders, Jess follows her into the kitchen. After a quick glance around the kitchen, Jess pulls out a drawer and finds serving spoons then starts pulling out the traditional Chinese takeout cartons and opening them.

"I wasn't sure if you could eat shrimp but I got shao mai and har gow, pork char siu bao, pork ribs in black bean sauce, egg custard and dan dan noodles. I know its a lot but nothing like leftover Chinese for breakfast, right?"

Peggy Carter has posed:
"As long as it's cooked. They've taken raw sushi from me, deli meats, and the wine is all yours... But I'm pretty much allowed anything else. Oh. And only one cup of black tea a day. I think that might be the worst. How do these doctors expect us not to murder someone at the end of this all? Back in my day, we had none of these restrictions and the human race propigated just fine, thank you very much!" Peggy huffs out, mostly teasing about it all. She knows the reasoning, but she can still miss her tea.

She grabs a dumpling as Jessica starts plating, popping it past her lips and starting to brew the tea as the food is set out. "Alright... I know you did not just come to bring me dim sum. What's on your mind?"

Jessica Drew has posed:
Jess makes a horrified face, drawing herself up straight, saying with an exaggerated accent, "These Americans have no idea how British babies are made! It's a wonder the human race survived." She fills another plate, "I think my blood is half caffeine and theine, turth be told."

Nodding wryly, the agent pops a shao mai into her mouth, "I thought I would soften the good news with some treats, Chief. Do we eat here or in the dining room?"

Peggy Carter has posed:
"Soften... the good news... Alright. And either the kitchen table or the couch. We're not that formal in this house and the dining table has most of work laid out on it these days." Peggy admits with a little laugh. She then nods in the direction of the couch. "Come on, let's go be comfortable. And yes, I might sneak a touch more tea than Jemma knows. I think she secretly understands." She admits with a wry smile.

Then she's on the way into the living room, carrying one set of the food and the tea tray as she moves for the sitting area and sets everything down on the coffee table. She waits for Jessica to come sit and then nods, "Alright. What is this... good news."

Jessica Drew has posed:
Deftly, Jess puts two plates in one hand and carries a third to the living room, "Don't worry. Really. I would have brought curry for bad news, ma'am. So you would pay more attention to your heartburn." She spreads the plates out and seats herself.

"It's really not bad. Unless," she gives Peggy an impish lift of her eyebrows, "Having all of Erickson's secret files on folks like the Kree is bad news."

Peggy Carter has posed:
"I mean...I don't know how I feel about Erickson keeping secret files outside of SHIELD, but you might as well explain to me what is going on. And I still have a few months before curry is bad news... Or so I hope. Managed the proper stuff this week once already." Peggy smiles. What she is saying is that she is absolutely bribeable with curry and encourages the matter.

But there is dim sum here now and she is starving, so she happily dives into the plate, eating expertly with chopsticks when it's called for, or just her fingertips in traditional style.

Jessica Drew has posed:
The Inhuman's high metabolic rate can give her an astonishing appetite at times. Jessica happily serves herself noodles and more dumplings, using chopsticks like an old hand. "Well, I think that is part of the point. He wants to come into Shield completely. It's to reinforce his solidarity with SHIELD goals, too."

Peggy Carter has posed:
The older woman across from her (though Peg really doesn't look a day over 30), listens with quietly arched brows. She is used to eating and working at the same time, clearly comfortable talking through dinner, she only is a bit careful not to be actively talking and chewing. She gives a slight nod, "Well, good. We'll take whatever information he has."

Jessica Drew has posed:
Who among the agents doesn't talk business while eating, or eat while on stake outs, or being holed up in a bunker or on the Quinjet. "Quite. Best that he hand the whole kit and caboodle over and let the analysts have at it." Jess concentrates on the noodles until her plate is cleared.

Apologetically she explains, "I believe he has handed over his weapon's cache. I'll double-check that ma'am. You know he was mortified when I explained to him that, at least for a while, he checks with me before seeing you."

Peggy Carter has posed:
A slow breath is drawn in through Peggy's nose as she considers those last words. She knows the faint headache that comes with them, but also the patience she needs to practice around the alien. "I... do not expect you to play his baby sitter or translator. I know much of this is a cultural issue but... He wishes to be a part of this culture. It is things he will have to learn." She gives a bittersweet, tired smile. "I appreciate the go between. I was tired of being made to feel inferior for... being human and acting as a human does. But this shouldn't just fall on your shoulders, you know?" Peg then takes a few more bites of food, sympathy behind her tired dark eyes.

Jessica Drew has posed:
Jessica shares a sympathetic nod with her, "He floors me all the time, ma'am. I have gotten so angry at him sometimes." She takes a deep breath remembering times she wanted to strangle him and leave the body for the Kree.

"Well, maybe Dottie can do it occasionally, if he survives it. Those two...are special, to say the least. But he seems to get through to her. Me, I'm not so sure. I think she wants me to go full Red Room. But I stray off the point." She bites a bun in half and chews before continuing, "If SHIELD can benefit from me "babysitting" for a while, I'll do it."

Peggy Carter has posed:
"Dottie is... a special circumstance. I've known her a long time and I had some...hopes that she might want to change, but it is unfair of me to ask her to be something different than she has been her entire life. I understand why they get along. He doesn't expect her to be anything more than a weapon. That is where she is comfortable. I had hopes she'd be a person, some day... Maybe that is not my place to say." Peggy admits with a little bit of a shrug, a bittersweet smile tugging at her lips as she thinks of her old acquaintance.

"And... it's not just about SHIELD, Jessica. It's about what you want as well. You need to be happy in your career too. If you do not want this assignment... I can help you rotate off. It's exhausting, I imagine."

Jessica Drew has posed:
Plate forgotten in her lap, Jessica looks into the middle distance a moment, weighing Carter's words. "I'm happy enough, ma'am. I wouldn't mind some assignments separate from him sometimes but for the time being, I will still gladly go on missions with him. Have you seen the report on our getting that weapons cache off of the Tannhauser truck? Weapons tech should have them under analysis now."

Peggy Carter has posed:
A nod in affirmation, "You do make a good team. And I appreciate *both* of your work. I just know it's...hard. If there's another assignment that isn't this angel's mess that pops up, I'll let you know. Conversely, if there is something you wish to look into independently? Let me know. I'll support whatever you wish to do. You're a good agent, Jess. I trust you. Understood?" Peggy's voice is a bit softer, food forgotten for the moment, as she gives those gently encouraging words. She wants to be certain that Jessica knows she's being honest.

Jessica Drew has posed:
Jess does hear the sincerity in the Chief's word. She touches an ear, aware that they warmed at the praise. "Fury knew better than I did. You can thank him for pulling me out of San Francisco, ma'am. I feel like you and the senior agents treat me fairly and help me grow in my work. I couldn't ask for anything more. Thanks, Chief."

Peggy Carter has posed:
"Of course, Jessica. But... being in the right place doesn't help if you aren't doing the right things. So... Tell me what you want to be doing." Peggy asks, leaning back in the couch and taking a plate of dumplings with her so she can munch on them as she settles in and listens.

Jessica Drew has posed:
"Right now, I want to be on operations as often as I can be. In the future, as lead. But for now, developing tactical awareness and leadership skills are what I need to do." She glances at Peggy to confirm her next words, "I consider myself a good asset in the field already."

Peggy Carter has posed:
"You are an excellent asset in the field, and you shouldn't be shackled to being a go between... challenging assets and regular work. The next operations we get, I'll make certain you are assigned to, with a note to the field commanders to keep an eye on you for leadership. Sounds good?" Peggy asks with lofted brows, before diving back into her last dumpling and then switching the empty plate out for a cup of tea.

Jessica Drew has posed:
"Yes, ma'am!" Jess bites down on a pleased grin and grabs the last pork bun with a questioning look. "So much for mega-leftovers. I'll grab myself some tea and be on my way. Let you get some rest."

Peggy Carter has posed:
A faint laugh escapes her lips, "I suspect we both have...quite the appetite. For different reasons, but this was the correct amount of food. Thank you. Daniel will be most appreciative someone saw to it that I fed myself without burning down the kitchen." Peggy admits with a wry grin that glimmers into her eyes. She really is a useless cook. "And...I appreciate the visit. I am sorry I am not better company beyond work. It's... all I've done for 80 years, in truth."
