Abby was a popular budding high school athlete, a swimmer and a surfer, when a surfing accident left her swept out to sea and dragged below, where she swallowed more than just sea-water. She was rescued and revived, but the seed of an abyssal creature lodged in her stomach, planted itself in place and threw her life into upheaval, becoming her own little passenger and opening up inside of her a portal to its home dimension, creating a psychic bond with her and beginning to mutate her body with demonic forms. Not well pleased by it all, she's left home, heading for NYC to see whether she can find a place to fit in.

Timeline:
* 2001: Born in Kennebunkport, Maine, to Parents Kevin and Stella.
* 2006: Learned to swim.
* 2009: Joined local girls' swim team.
* 2010: Began surfing lessons with some of the girls from her swim team.
* 2015: Tried out, joined her high school surfing team.
* 2016: Wiped out in a surfing competition and was swept out to sea; swallowed a lot of sea water and Something Else. Rescued without a pulse, revived by CPR but comatose by the time she got to the hospital. 6 months in coma.
* 2017: A lot of physical therapy, tried to return to school, was told she had to repeat the year anyhow. Returned in the fall a different person. No sports, more goth. Sudden interest in the occult and demonology. Shunned by old friends.
* 2018: Growth spurt? Eyes changed color from blue to black. Legs began to show patched of black, leathery scaling. The Year Of Long Jeans.
* 2019: Growth of legs/talons finally makes wearing shoes untenable and pants almost so. Dropped out of high school her senior year, ran away from home, wandered the eastern seaboard, attained minor urban legend status.
* 2020: Made it to NYC, looking for Her People, if they even exist.

Personality

Bravo:
Abby was always a sporty girl and, before her accident, a showboat on the surfboard, pulling stunts and getting attention for her prowess. If she feels like she can get attention by doing something rash or dangerous, she just might, even if it flies in the face of good judgement, and ESPECIALLY if she thinks it could garner the approval of any sort of potential peer group. This impulse is presently in direct conflict with her trying to keep a low profile.

Whatever:
Not only was Abby's life turned upside-down when she took that tumble into the dark, she brought some of that dark back with her. She has some psychic connection with her passenger, not a strong one, but enough to fill her dreams with harrowing glimpses of the void. It's enough to give her a dark sense of the world, an edged attitude that could be off-putting. But, then, when the horrors of the abyss are waiting for her just behind her eyelids, it's hard to find much in the waking world to scare her.

Powers

Abyssal Arms:
Abby's psychic connection to her passenger has advanced such that she can summon some parts of the passenger itself from the abyss, as well. She can manifest up to three abyssal tentacles from her maw at once, for a total of 10 feet (1 tentacle 10 feet long, 2 at 5, 3 at 3.3), which are basically under her control, or at least pursue her general aims. They are excellent grapplers and wonderful for climbing, suckers lined with sharp hooks, and they can grab and drag things back into the abyss with them like the tongue of a frog snatching a fly.

Abyssal Portal:
Abby can swallow things into the abyssal portal lodged in her stomach, essentially removing them from this realm of reality. She can likewise summon items from the abyss, both items she has swallowed there for safe keeping and also items conjured into the abyss with the help of her passenger. Any item not under direct observation can be conjured, but it's much easier the more general an item it is-- 'a chapstick' from somewhere in the world is easy, 'the key from that dude's pocket' is a little trickier, but still possible.

Legs For Days:
Yes, those legs go all the way down. Unfortunately, those legs are also abyssal abominations, scaled over with thick black bands of hide over sinew and rubbery bone and formed like a giant pair of raptor talons or a great demonic chicken. They are immensely powerful, and, combined with her light weight, give her the ability to leap tall buildings, etc. The massive onyx talons are wonderful for clinging even to the sides of buildings, and when she gets going in a cityscape it can be much the same as flight. They are very sharp and dangerous to the average human, but given the lack of body weight behind them don't really tend to do much damage to anyone in armor or with super-resilience.

Omnivore:
With the abyssal powers focused in her digestive tract, Abby can eat anything and digest/subsist on most things. She is not susceptible to food poisoning or poison-poisoning and she can chew through non-superpowered materials, nor worry about cutting open her insides swallowing, say, sharp glass.

Uncanny Physiognomy:
Abby's passenger has leaked some demonic traits into her physiognomy. Her bones are hollow and rubbery, like a bird's. She's very light, only 74 pounds, despite being over six feet tall and not appearing emaciated... she simply lacks in mass. She can fall from a ten story building, hit the ground and pop up again, or get hit by a bus and not be too put out by it. Her vital organs are tough and, like her skeleton, just sort of squish around wherever they need to be and go back without much trouble. Bullets and blades hurt worse, but tend to shove her back along with their impact, lessening the likelihood of a serious injury unless she is trapped against a wall. She can squeeze through any space her head can fit through, and even her skull has a little bit of give to it. She can unhinge her jaw to swallow/disgorge items to/from the abyss.

Skills

Athletic:
She knows how to balance, she knows how to move. Tumbling, jumping, swimming (OK, maybe not swimming anymore), running, dodging... she is quick and clever with her movements and knows how to maximize the potential of her newfound abilities.

Demonic Lore:
Abby's connection to her passenger has given her both a curiosity for and an uncanny ability to sniff out good information about demons, the abyss, and other planes of existence. She has a knack for remembering these things, too, and even without a physical library of her own she's a sort of walking treasury of interesting facts on the topic.

Urban Survival:
She's been homeless a couple of years, now, and, more than that, a homeless mutant, so she's had to learn how to be on her own on the streets, how to skulk and scavenge and find places to hang out where she won't be bothered.

Resources

Nothing and Everything:
She's been homeless a couple of years, now, but for all that she hardly needs to go without. She can conjure most of what she needs, though the money she coughs up needs //actual physical// laundering, most times. Easier to cough up a necklace and sell it to pawn after a brief rinse, assuming she can find a place that will deal with her.

Weaknesses

Inhuman:
Well, she's clearly not human, or, at least, that's what everyone who sees those legs thinks. Presumably this is more of a problem in some places than in others, but it's an all-around bane for a typically gregarious girl like her.

The Depths:
Oh, the ocean unnerves her, now. It killed her once, and brought her eye to eye with the horrors of the Abyss, and now, well, she doesn't mind water, but if she can't see the bottom she is NOT going in without a fight. And her new legs aren't wonderful at swimming, anyhow, even if she can easily float, being of lighter density than the water.
