Aimee was born into old-money. Two rich families with centuries of history each combined when her parents married, and Aimee is to be the heiress. Since the moment of her birth her parents have had very specific plans for how her life would turn out, and as she's grown older Aimee has chafed at those expectations.

The manifestation of her power might have aided her in achieving every dream her parents had for her, instead it revealed to her a world of fake people in a fake society. Wanting none of it, Aimee is determined to try and find her own more honest way in the world. Starting with a year of freedom from her parents plans, in a small apartment in New York City.

Timeline:
* 2002: Aimee Annette Alexander born with dual US and French citizenship to Richard and Genevieve Alexander.
* 2003: Richard and Genevieve plan out their daughter's life in exacting detail. While ultimately they love their child, they both care far more about the legacy they'll leave.
* 2008: Ballet lessons begin. Aimee isn't a fan, but wants to please her parents.
* 2016: Aimee's mutant power manifests, though nobody but her knows it exists. At the same time she undergoes a fairly abrupt transformation from antisocial wallflower to social butterfly. Her parents are pleased.
* 2019: Aimee begins to question her place in the world and what she wants from her life. Bargains with her parents to finish High School a year early and take a year for herself before continuing with what her parents had planned for her. Her parents hire her extra tutors on the condition she'll use the spare year for networking and not just a vacation.
* 2020: Aimee manages to graduate High School one year early, though only barely maintains straight A's. With a mixture of reluctance and pride her parents lease an apartment in New York for a year.

Personality

Blunt:
Aimee has Opinions, and if you ask for them don't expect her to pull her punches. As someone who has come to resent the way people say one thing while feeling another, she tends towards brutal honesty with people she cares about or respects. If you're someone she doesn't particularly care for she might be a little more willing to wear a fake smile, but it's far more likely that you'll get the same honesty in word and deed that everyone else does.

Disillusioned:
Aimee has become disillusioned with society. The ability to sense the feelings of those around her has opened her eyes to how two-faced even the most genuine people can be. Everyone wears a mask, putting on an act to one degree or another to fit in with what society expects. Aimee herself even spent the better part of her teenage years playing that game. But as she reaches adulthood she can't help but start to wonder if there is anything real in this world, or if it's all just one big ever- perpetuated lie.

Lonely:
Aimee was very much a shy introvert before her powers manifested. While years of abusing her powers to navigate the social hierarchy of High School has given her a little more confidence than she had as a child, she resents the idea that she has to be someone she isn't just to enjoy the friendships everyone else seems to make so easily. Feeling that none of the connections to people she's made with the help of her powers can be considered real, she has effectively cut all her old connections. She's determined to make new friends without having to use her powers or present herself as something she's not, but doesn't really believe it's an achievable goal.

Reliable:
For all her flaws, Aimee is incredibly reliable. She means what she says and she does her very best to say what she means. If she makes a promise it's because she intends to keep it. Having her words and actions match her thoughts and feelings is perhaps the single most important value she holds, so there is rarely a reason to doubt her motivations or commitment.

Sassy:
Alongside her bluntness comes a tendency for sharp-tongued jokes at the expense of others. Aimee generally isn't trying to hurt people with her jokes, but the bitterness and general negativity she bottles up has caused her sarcastic sense of humour to start to lean more towards the nasty end of the spectrum than the playful end. She's mindful of this and does try to bite her tongue when she thinks a joke might be too much, but when she's stressed or otherwise not in a good mood she occasionally makes a snarky remark that's perhaps a little too personal.

Powers

Emotion Manipulation:
Aimee's power is at its strongest when she is in physical contact with someone. She is able to read the full scope of their emotional state with a high degree of nuance. At this point she is additionally able to modify any of the emotions the individual is feeling, or even introduce new ones, for as long as she remains in direct contact with them and actively using her power. Interrupting the contact or her power usage immdiately causes the emotions to return to what they would normally be in the given situation. Aimee is able to manipulate her own emotions this same way, merely needing to maintain her power use upon herself to maintain her modified emotions. She cannot actively use this power on more than one person (including herself) at a time.

Passive Emotion Sensing:
Aimee's mutant power causes her to constantly have an awareness of the emotions of everyone within an approximate 5 yard radius. The insight she gains this way is fairly shallow, as she can only read the strongest emotion a given person feels at any given time. In addition, too many people being within her range creates 'noise' that can make it difficult for her to identify more subtle emotions or identify who is feeling what.

Skills

Ballet:
Having a decade of ballet tutelage isn't often useful in and of itself. However, though she might be loathe to admit it, Aimee is thankful for the flexibility and grace the lessons left her with. The dancing itself also makes for a nice stress relief when she's able to do it in private and on her own terms.

Manipulation:
Her insight into emotions, and a lot of practice during her high school years, has given Aimee a good grasp of more mundane methods of manipulating people. Whether it's garnering trust, starting a friendship, or securing a deal, Aimee has a knack for it that often doesn't require any supernatural effort beyond the passive sensing that she has no control over anyway. Though less unethical than the actual use of her power, she still does her best to avoid this type of behaviour for the dishonesty it represents. Still, when left with few other options it's a skill she can always fall back upon.

Resources

Old Money:
Aimee's family is flush with more cash than they could spend in a lifetime. While Aimee's trust fund is inaccessible until she either graduates University or turns 25 (whichever happens first), her parents provide her with a monthly stipend and are more than happy to pay for anything she can't afford so long as she can justify it as being a benefit to her future or their family's reputation.

Weaknesses

Desperate For a Friend:
Aimee is a lonely girl. More than perhaps anything else she's desperate to make real connections with people. While her ability to sense emotions often protects her from those who would take advantage of that, anyone who is immune to, can fool, or otherwise bypass her power will find her especially susceptible to manipulation if approached under the pretense of friendship

Empathic Overload:
Even though the emotions Aimee senses with her empathy are not experienced so much as they are simply recognized and understood, there is still a similar cognitive stress accumulated as if she had experienced them herself. Usually this only leads to headaches and irritability when spending long periods of time around large groups of people, but extreme situations can lead to dizziness, debilitating migraines, nose-bleeds, or even unconsciousness as the net cognitive stress overworks her brain.

Hates Her Power:
The passive effect of her power alone introduced Aimee to a world full of the two-faced and the disingenuous. But she can live with that. The active ability of her power to manipulate emotions on the other hand is considered by Aimee to be a gross violation of someone's identity and as such she refuses to use it on others except perhaps in the most extenuating circumstances. She's slightly more willing to use her power on herself, and the temptation to give herself a little extra confidence here or a little less sadness there can sometimes be too much to bear. She hates the weakness that reliance on that ability implies however, and does her best to avoid making its use a habit.
