A mid-west mutant who has spent much of his life studying his own abilities and learning how to utilize them to enhance his own life and even help others when he can. Turning to a life of a professional parkour performer by day and vigilante by night by the name of Kinetic.

Timeline

Timeline:
* 1996: Born Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Harlan and Regina Carson.
* 2002: Bong State Recreational Area, near Brighton, WI - Runs off from campground while parents are cooking lunch on camping trip. Climbs a tree and subsequently falls after going too high. Expresses his mutation by instinctively absorbing the kinetic force of impact. Begins doing more and more dangerous stunts when no one is looking.
* 2005: Accidentally channels kinetic energy absorbed jumping off his roof into a leap that puts him through a window into his mothers 3 season room while she's renovating. She is confused and terrified he is unharmed. Parent's fearing he'll be taken away make him promise to not use his ability.
* 2007: Secretly 'playing' with his powers, Carson is hit by a car. Instinctively absorbs most of the impact and 'leaps' to get clear. Suffers moderate bruises, but is otherwise unharmed. Stories of a ghost child who appears at night circulate.
* 2010: Begins Parkour running through Milwaukee. Absorbing energy from falls to help him jump higher and further as needed. Parents protest.
* 2011: Begins taking science electives in junior high, taking an interest in physics
* 2014: Graduates from highschool, earns a scholarship to UoW for science studies, focusing on Physics.
* 2015: Begins freerunning 'professionally' when not studying or on breaks. Begins charging for 'appearances' or admittance to areas where he is performing stunts.
* 2018: Graduates with his Bachelors degree in Physics. Studying his abilities and trying to understand the science behind it. Making a career of free running, during an urban-exploration for his paid online channel he is shot by a squatter. The force is absorbed and Carson is shocked.
* 2020: Professional Parkour exhibitionist by day, vigilante by night, Carson finds himself in New York, calling himself Kinetic, continues to experiment with his abilities.

Personality

Analytical:
Going hand in hand with his curious nature, when Carson tackles a subject and does not shelf it for later inquiry he becomes laser focused. Tackling the topic from multiple angles of study. Each new fact filed, studied and compared to other discoveries regarding the topic of focus. Keeping extensive notes and files coded in his own short-hand, which has served well in his amateur vigilantism since leaving college.

Excitable:
Adrenaline junkie, mercurial, overzealous - all fitting terms for Carson. It might be good he doesn't work in a lab, put his degree to formal use, and instead uses it to theorize what can be done with his abilities. Any time he thinks he's hit a peak the idea of raising the bar just a little more sets him off anew. Meeting people, fans, the next big stunt. Even if he's 'done it before' it's always a rush. A lab to test theories of what he can do while making people think it's all simply a matter of knowing how to propel himself through obstacles while pushing the limit of believability.

Fearless:
Having never suffered worse than a few deep bruises, Carson has total confidence in his abilities. Having survived gunshots, attempts to be stabbed, crowbars to the head, and at least one straight on collision with a train near Steven's Point Wisconsin. He hasn't felt real fear since he fell out of a tree and thought he was going to die.

His lack of fear has affected every facet of his life, no worries of his ability to succeed in school, in college, in life, in his chosen career. Fearlessness has turned him into a force unto himself.

Inquisitive:
For as long as he's known Carson has wondered after everything. The nature of his ability, how he can expand on it, how mutation works, why didn't he become a genetic researcher instead of physics? Would he wonder the same if he'd studied genetics? Should he come out in the open? Should he team up with other mutants? Just how much energy can he absorb safely, and how much could he safely use? What are the extents of his and other abilities? What's in that old abandoned house in upstate that the owners had to leave in '15, is there anything neat to find? Questions. Questions. Questions. He doesn't even necessarily need find the answers right away. But he regularly amasses more and more inquiries that he needs to find the answers to eventually.

Righteous:
The righteous man lifts others up. Attributing his abilities to scientific lottery derived from years studying sciences in primary education and his time focusing on physics to study his powers - if he is the beneficiary of fortunate - then others should be fortunate because of him. Whether entertaining through his parkour expositions, stunt shows or urban exploration exploits or stopping a mugger from hurting a couple on a date and returning an old woman's purse to her. He has been given a gift, he will be a gift to others as he can.

Secular Humanist:
Carson believes in embracing human reason, philosophical naturalism and secular ethics. He rejects religious dogma, supernaturalism and superstition as the basis for morality and decision making. Morality, per Carson's beliefs, are based on survival. If one is good to another they will hopefully be kind back. One who takes from others, steals, harms, or otherwise performs in a manner that subjugates others to them is immoral, while treating others with decency, respect, caring and consideration. His powers are not divine gifts, but gifts of nature and evolution and in such should be further used to uplift others and in so doing uplifts himself.

Powers

Enhanced Speed:
Carson can expend stored energy to move faster, the potential energy released in bursts through his feet to propel him forward. Not true 'super speed' he is not moving faster than the world around him but it is difficult to use this for anything less than a jog without him bouncing awkwardly forward from foot to foot.

Kinetic Absorption:
Carson's body absorbs kinetic energy and converts it to a 'pool' of potential energy within himself. Small impacts from footsteps keep him at a very slow and minimal charge, but the more powerful the impact the more powerful the charge. While if he is at a low 'charge' he can absorb impacts from moving vehicles and even from handguns or small automatics with the after affect of bruising. But the more charge he stores the more he can instinctively channel to absorb more. In his personal experiments he has, once and only after having charged with several falls of increasing height, survived being struck by a freight train. As he builds up more and more potential energy absorbed from kinetic impacts with his body the more he can call on to fuel his other abilities.

Kinetic Expulsion:
When he has had to fight Carson has been able to channel stored kinetic energy through his body. While observed by others as 'super strength' Carson expends stored energy quickly this way. He has to absorb considerable amounts of kinetic energy to do things like lift or throw something like a car or smash through walls. Doing so expends a lot an he may need to go to extremes to get enough 'juice' to do it more than once or twice in a given instance. Of course getting shot with an uzi or hit by the car being thrown helps.

Kinetic Propulsion:
By channeling stored energy Carson can increase the lengths of jumps. When used with free running it has allowed him to move just a little bit further to the next place to plant and leap from. Carried him a little higher and swing that much harder and higher when he's needed to. But he can also use stored energy to perform greater leaps in terms of height and distance. If he lands higher than he started then he regains less from the impact. He has pushed himself forward on a wave of kinetic energy but it is expended much more quickly and he can only do so much without absorbing more.

Skills

Athletics:
In order to maintain his ability with free running, Carson has kept himself in shape. Maintaining flexibility and enough body strength to lift himself unaided while not bulking himself out to create more weight to lift on his own or with his abilities. Because of this even without his abilities he's a fast runner and is of above average strength.

First-Aid:
Carson has taken official first-aid training, not for himself but for other free runners he has worked with. This has resulted in his being useful when accidents have happened and Carson has acted as a first responder in civilian life.

Hand To Hand:
Carson has picked up some hand to hand skills, relying more on his powers than skill. A years worth of karate here, six months worth of boxing there, eight months of Mixed Martial, and so on - utilizing technique but mastering none. Because of the number of methods he's practiced he cannot be ranked an amateur in fighting styles, but he cannot be ranked anywhere near the lowest tier masters.

Parkour:
Carson has been free running since he was fourteen. Using it in conjunction with his kinetic abilities he has honed an interest into a profession. What started as a side-gig in college has become a focus for his understanding of physics, utilizing his academic knowledge to enhance his practical ability. Carson can turn any environment into a jungle gym - provided it's not just wide, flat, or just hilly with nothing to leap over, from, or swing from.

Physics Major:
While only a bachelor of the science, Carson is still technically a physicist, even if he puts most of his focus on the study in how us physics into how to better enhances his free running ability. He does not have the focus of study a Masters or PHD would have, but his grasp of the science is far more than the average layperson

Resources

Investments:
Carson knows well enough to invest and has used profits from Monkeyboy to take stock in other companies so that he has other sources of, moderate, income should he have slow periods with his free running. Without Monkeyboy he's managed enough that he could live comfortably with a part time job to help supplement income.

Monkeyboy Inc.:
Carson free runs professionally under the self started brand Monkeyboy, performing at expos, extreme sports competitions and paid appearances of various type. An extreme stunt man, he has secured numerous paying gigs and has a successful enough online presence to be able to sell merchandise. The success of Monkeyboy has been that it has enabled him to function without a 'real job' pursuing his parkour and study of his ability

The Van:
Carson has a late model 2017 cargo van that he has converted into a mobile, if cramped, home. Providing himself a place to sleep, eat, and work when on the road or not situated in a hotel.

Weaknesses

Cocky:
Carson is very sure of himself and often lacks the necessary concern that he might fail. While an analytical person he is suffers semi-regular setbacks by sometimes throwing caution to the wind and just 'going with it' when he thinks it will all turn out well. He could be potentially drawn out into the open if one plays on this weakness properly.

Impermanent Charge:
The kinetic energy absorbed by Carson will slowly dissipate. 'Feeding' himself more energy by walking into walls, or people, or even getting struck will keep his power level constant. When he is at rest it will slowly drain away and he is typically 'on E' when he wakes up from a full night sleep.

Partially Invulnerable:
Carson is not totally invulnerable. If he is at a low 'charge' for absorbed energy he can be bruised, sprained, strained or potentially concussed. A substantially powerful strike can still hurt him if if he hasn't absorbed enough and if a source of injury lacks a kinetic component there is nothing for him to absorb.
