Dante doesn't talk much about his past. A respected welder in New York who seems to know everyone and their cousin, he moonlights as a rather successful amateur drummer. Gigs always have a respectable turnout, supplemented by a respected social media presence. He puts out drumming videos, covers, and performances to connect with the public. All this covers the life he left behind and the one he keeps quiet: an ability to spontaneously erupt into flames that came out of nowhere. He barely knows anything about his Inhuman heritage, but that's about to change.

Timeline:
* 1994: Dante is born to Matteo and Juanita Pertez in Chicago, Illinois. He grows up very close to his elder sister, Gabriela.
* 2006: Dante debuts his first video on YouTube: Dante's Drumferno. He gains a dedicated following of friends and gradually refines and expands his canon.
* 2007: Matteo and Juanita divorce. Dante and Gabriela stay with their mother, rarely seeing their father.
* 2011: After graduation, Dante gets his welding certificate to support him and his mother.
* 2012: The Pertez family relocates to New York. A gene bomb detonated in the neighbourhood catches Dante on his way to work. He ignites for the first time. Maria enters a cocoon but her broken Inhuman DNA does not enable her to survive terrigenesis. Dante arrives and destroys the apartment in his grief.
* 2013: Dante takes odd jobs and escapes south to Miami, where he lives for 3 years under the name "Dante Madureira" or "Matt Black." One of his employers paying him under the table provides him with fake ID.
* 2017: Gabriela hires a PD to track Dante down. He doesn't show up to an arranged reunion, and returns to New York to pursue a music career.
* 2019: Dante hits rock bottom after several failed relationships, gigs, and jobs blow up in his face -- literally. When anti-mutants try to beat him and another young man up, he assumes his "Inferno" identity to scare them off.
* 2021: Dante agrees to genetic testing in Bushwick, which reveals he doesn't have an X gene. He's pissed. He later makes a connection with another Inhuman online while trying to figure out what he is.

Hot and Cold:
Dante assumed a caregiver role for his older sister and his mother from a young age when his father bounced. It's in his nature to help those in need, providing the strength of his back or a shoulder to cry on for those in need. He works hard to provide for the people he cares about, even if that's been reduced to a very small circle. When he falls short of his admittedly high standards for himself, he drives himself hard to make up the difference. If that effort fails, he takes it particularly hard. Dante has a code a bit like the Marines; be the first one in and the last guy out, and don't leave your loved ones behind.

He chose to leave behind his sister and unborn niece when his powers erupted, aware that his brother-in-law would be far better at caring for Gabriela than he could. That put a crack in his armour, one he papers over with wise-cracks, the occasional bout of cynicism, and a hardened skin. A lot of his anguish and anger from the moment are turned inward. He tries, however, to be the sort of person Gabriela and his niece would take pride in, someone his mom would have approved of, someone who gives to his community. He hides the ache of loss when he can, and strives to put himself back together before he can follow through with those in need.

Independent:
Dante has spent years being the person other people rely on, not the guy who needs help. He learned to figure out problems himself, through trial and error, Doctor Google, or DIY videos on YouTube. When a situation calls on him to figure out what plan of action to take, he doesn't hesitate to proceed. He likes to do things his own way, and easily assumes a position of leadership when a group is indecisive. He knows his own mind and rarely expects anyone to question him, since he's so used not having additional assistance. His wide independent streak has many advantages, but it also causes him friction in team settings. He's not had much opportunity to work collaboratively with a team of superheroes

Risk-Seeking:
Like so many pyrokinetics, Dante can be hot-headed, impulsive, and intense. When something piques his interest, he runs hell for leather towards it. He loves speed, the wind in his hair, and the adrenaline hit of a new exciting experience. Adrenaline and dopamine he chases like there's no tomorrow, believing life is too short and precious to waste. Sometimes Dantes does something for the hell of it, damn the consequences. His risk-seeking behaviour originates from the trauma of his terrigenesis and a way to subsume the difficulties that his newly found powers brought.

Healing Factor:
Dante is not immune to fire, though he believes he is. Instead, terrigenesis caused a secondary mutation that gave him an accelerated healing factor. He repairs minor injuries in minutes. He heals moderate damage in less than a day, and catastrophic injuries in a week. If a limb is dismembered or organ removed, his body regenerates the damage first in plasma, then a hardened rocky surface. When the healing completes, the hardened "hot" shell falls away to reveal healthy flesh. He cannot use this ability if he is decapitated or subjected to massive levels of chest or head trauma. Dante is hard to hurt, but he is not invulnerable or immortal.

His healing factor goes into overdrive when exposed to radiation, fire, plasma or forces that closely mirror his pyrokinetic abilities. Slapping on lava or lighting him up with conventional fire would have the same effect. Burn damage of any kind is repaired in seconds. He experiences pain throughout the healing process.

Inhuman:
Dante is a full-blooded Inhuman subjected to terrigenesis in adulhood. He has the amplified abilities of his race. He has physical abilities exceeding those of a super soldier, like Captain America.

He can run for hours or exert himself strenuously without experience fatigue. His flexibility and agility exceeds the finest Olympian, allowing his to perform physical feats like running across narrow ledges or snatching a falling welding torch without getting burnt. He is strong enough to throw a car or hold up two tons unsupported. His reaction times are similarly enhanced to superhuman levels, though far from a speedster or Spider-person's skills.

Ionic Geokinesis:
Dante's genetic mutation enables him to generate and manipulate fire-like plasma for a number of different effects. Unlike other pyrokinetic-based metahumans, he produces his own ionic field continuously that serves as the basis for his powers. He focuses this field into tangible energy effects, and active use unconsciously generates more plasma than his resting "base" level.

Thermokinesis: He can manipulate heat, generally by increasing the ambient temperature but also by siphoning it off objects, heat sources, or living targets. He can cause localized bursts no larger than a 15 x 15 foot square to reach incredibly hot temperatures, on par with confined fire, without any form of combustion or oxygen source for a fire.

Plasma Flames: He can generate intensely hot "flames" constructed from plasma, thus bypassing traditional fire suppression or resistance. His flames burn hot enough to melt steel. By focusing their intensity, he can briefly increase the temperature to the melting point of titanium and flash-fry an unprotected target no larger than a tree. However, blowing out his powers this way is wearying and dangerous, as he tends to lose control more easily. He has to replenish himself with adequate food and rest to be able to perform the flash-fire in twice in a 24 hour period. The flames that he produces burn through his skin, rendering him visibly 'different' as the outer layer of his flesh sloughs off in a magma shell. However, his healing factor repairs the damage. He can use his pyrokinetic powers by touch, in line of sight activated 'burns' or by lobbing plasma blasts from his body.

Hybrid Form: When Dante uses his powers, he can wreathe his body in plasma flames as a form of armour. These burn hot enough to melt bullets, deter hand-to-hand combat, and counteract wood, plastic or metal bindings, and even poisonous gasses. The flames do him and his clothes no harm as they are generated from his ionic aura. However, he can assume a magma-like form where his skin hardens to rock and flaming bursts of superheated plasma and lava erupt through minor fissures. In this golem-like form, he does not need to breathe and his durability significantly enhances. Water damage can significantly harm him by cooling the plasma into a shell that burns him out. He does not gain additional strength, but he can prove largely impervious to bashing damage and mundane weapons. Since he uses more of his energy to sustain the hybrid fire-rock form, he risks depleting his energy stores with offensive blasts or attacks. He also runs the risk of burning anything untreated and flammable when he moves through, since he runs so hot.

Hardened Skin: After initially igniting himself by plasma, Dante can produce a thin, hardened shell around his regenerated skin that's mostly volcanic rock. This limits his agility and reflexes, but enhances his durability. He often uses this if he's going into a low-level fight.

Skills

Athletics:
Dante stays fit at the gym, playing soccer and basketball, and going for regular runs. He's in very good physical shape overall for a man his age.

Barfly:
Dante spends a fair bit of time in dive bars, clubs, and other entertainment venues as a musician. Going along with that is shooting the breeze, an excellent way for him to gather information without appearing to do so. He knows who's getting married and who's going to jail, the latest happenings in the neighbourhood, and the drifts of concern that come from patrons and bartenders alike. He often knows more of what's going on than the police do, thanks to having his finger on the pulse of the community. He can actively acquire information this way or glean important details. Since he's a known quantity, he often gets better access, and he can charm someone into sharing what he needs to know -- within reason.

Combat:
Dante is a moderately seasoned hand-to-hand fighter, experienced mostly in boxing and wrestling. He learned to throw a good punch as an adult in Miami, so he can connect hard and use his superb Inhuman strength to go hard against most opponents of his size and weight class. He doesn't have a lot of combat-oriented experience, though having hands of flame and a body that regenerates itself in plasma tends to even the odds. Against a much more skilful opponent, he's going to take a beating but might get a few licks in.

Geology:
Being an earth-bending Inhuman requires a pretty good understanding of how the Earth itself works. Dante has an informal background in geology and vulcanism obtained through online classes offered by Harvard, MIT, and other respected institutions. He's watched as many documentaries, science lectures, and podcasts as he can get his flaming hands on. He understands the principles of the rock cycle, how hotspots and subduction zones create volcanoes, and the different types of volcanic activity that occur naturally on the Earth. He can explain properties of igneous rocks, the hazards of volcanic gasses, and the melting points of different minerals, metals, and inorganic substances.

Linguistics:
Dante is fluent in Spanish and English. He can speak Portuguese conversationally.

Music:
Dante is a drummer and all-around percussionist. His talents are such that he has 100,000+ followers on social media where he posts videos of him covering famous or lesser-known songs. He performs gigs across New York, showing versatility between rock, Latin pop, urbano, and reggaeton themes. He could devote himself wholly to his music and probably break through, given he's got the technical chops and sense of flair to create impressive showmanship in the vein of Dave Grohl or Dazzler.

Welding:
Dante is a licensed welder in New York and New Jersey, working primarily in construction, infrastructure, and engineering fields. With nearly ten years of experience, he has exceptional knowledge of melting points, metal construction, problem solving, and defect analysis. He can build or refurbish metallic objects on a minor (pipe) or grand (bridge) scale, commercial and industrial structures, and vehicles. He not only understands how to correct flaws or repair errors, he can exploit weaknesses and damage or completely destroy objects. His practical and theoretical skills apply directly to his powers, allowing him to direct his plasma with precision and varying intensity.

Alternate Id:
Dante left behind his life in Chicago after terrigenesis. He managed to scrape together to cash to get a good fake ID through a contact at work, one that shows his name as "Matteo Black" and an address in Miami, Florida. He has a driver's license, birth certificate, SSN, and documents enough to establish a working and rental history that will pass basic inspection. The driver's license is the most up-to-date, and he paid good money for it to slip past police inspection. That said, he very clearly doesn't live in Miami anymore but the address belongs to a buddy of his. If things get tough, he can fall back on being Matt Black for a while.

Contacts:
Dante's been around a lot, doing gigs in bars and street festivals, connecting with the Latino community in Queens and Miami, and working on a lot of sites as a welder. He knows people. He's got in-roads on city councilors and their offices, since infrastructure projects mobilize government officials. He knows architects, draftsmen, and other tradies who work alongside him on bridges, buildings, and such. He knows a heck of a lot of good tradesmen paid under the table, illegal immigrants who move between job sites, and their families. He's got connections to the local faith ministry, petty criminals who populate the barrio, and half the good bodega owners around his neighbourhood. He's in a good position to hear news, spread it, or get the pulse on things that cops often don't pay attention to.

Family:
Dante comes from a fairly large, close-knit Hispanic family that he turned his back on for their own protection, but the Pertuzes are always there for him. His only immediate relatives are his big sister, Gabriela, her husband John, and his niece Ariela. Though it's been over ten years since he went no-contact with Gabriela, he misses her dearly. She would welcome him with open arms if he ever reached out. Unfortunately his loyalties and love for his sister and his niece are easy for his enemies to exploit. He'd do damn near anything to keep them safe, even at the cost to himself. His sister and his niece also have Inhuman lineage, though weaker due to their higher proportion of human DNA.

Job:
Dante makes good money as a professional welder. He's certified as a senior welder inspector, which nets him a handsome salary. Enough to let him own a truck, tools, and a nice pad in Queens, not enough to have a yard. Unfortunately, his job requires keeping his Inhuman identity secret unless he chooses to go freelance, and that obligation weighs heavy on his mind. His job is only as good as the people willing to hire him.

Weaknesses

Earthly Inhuman:
Dante underwent terrigenesis as the result of a highly rare genetic accident that discharged Terrigen. He fell unconscious in a cocoon that enfolded him and remained intact for two weeks. When he emerged, no Inhumans awaited him to explain who or what he was. He had no support network to help him understand his powers or lineage. In short, he learned everything he could from trial and error. He took the hardest path to discover what he was, ending up confused and disillusioned in the past. He doesn't know much about Inhumans and the idea of a family he belongs to, a whole civilization that welcomes him, is a completely foreign concept. It's bound to earn anger and upset before acceptance. But he desperately needs his kin.

Estranged Family:
Dante abandoned his family when his Inhuman lineage became clear unexpectedly. He could not deal with the mutations or his powers after he burned out his own apartment. Though he paid for the physical damage through insurance, he realized how many lives he put at risk. He left behind his girlfriend, abandoned his parents, and lost contact with his sister. For a decade, he has not contacted the Pertez clan in Chicago. They know he's alive and he rebuffs all attempts at contact, even though it hurts him a great deal. He believes himself too much a risk to be around them. That ache in his chest drives some of his more risk-seeking behaviours.

Guilt:
Dante survived the terrigenesis process when his mother didn't come out of her cocoon. Though he logically knows he could not have done anything for her, he deeply believes he should have. Emotions don't follow logical rules. The impact of her loss when his powers awoke leaves a traumatic scar for him to deal with, and he still looks at his actions as a source of failure. Never mind his mother would never have blamed him.

Hotheaded:
Dante powers trigger off of his emotional state. He has troubles containing his fire-based abilities when he feels anything strongly, but most often fear, passion, anger, hunger or intense stress. When he feels these emotions, his body physically reacts not by producing cortisone (the stress hormone), but instead heat and plasma. The defensive effect sometimes transforms his skin to molten rock or a shell of plasma "fire". The effect at an inopportune time could be disastrous. As a result, Dante tries to avoid physical contact and when he's slipping, he most often high-tails it out of a situation. He doesn't have perfect command of his powers, and the finesse Inhumans could teach him is something he desperately needs and fears.

Inhuman:
Dante, like all Inhumans, has unique genetics distorted by Kree tampering millennia ago. This creates multiple weaknesses:

* Kree Enmity: The Kree hate their creations, and the feeling is mutual. They're likely to attack him on sight.

* Pollution Sensitivity: He is heavily affected by prolonged exposure to pollution. If he's in a badly contaminated area longer than a day, he will start to fall ill, like she has a bad flu. After a week, he will be in real danger. In a normal city like New York, it takes him a month to feel problematic effects. He needs to spend at least two days in a rural area or the Moon to purge the pollutants from his body.

Scary Powers:
Society accepts some powers more easily than others. Healing or looking dashingly heroic running at the enemy are fine. Producing flames all over your body and possibly causing Mount Vesuvius to erupt tend to warrant stares, fear, and occasional gunshots. Dante's mutation from terrigenesis puts a target on his back from the general population because he visibly transforms and the ionized plasma or geokinetic mantle register as unnatural. He cannot downplay what sets him apart much, and he's therefore visibly "different" as a metahuman. In some circumstances, his status can make him at risk for a beating or lost jobs, if not outright hostile responses.
