The Djann are a outgrowth of the primordial Fae, entities that predate not just humanity but Earth itself.

The first Djann dwelled in the desert regions of the Fae Realms near the Never-Never, regions of heat and wind and bronze. Unlike the elegant forest homes of the more elfin Fae lords, the Djann raised great cities of brass that glittered so bright they could be seen by travelers outside the Fae realms as far away as the Astral Plane. Djann were known for being able to grant immensely powerful boons to mortal travelers who wandered into their realms, but were regarded equally as being cruel and capricious.

At one point in prehistory, Lucifer the Morningstar crossed the realms of Faerie on some personal task. Weakened and injured by unexpected dangers, Lucifer was captured by the Djann and thrown into their gaols. He outwitted his captors, turning their own wishes against them. The Djann were divided forever by this action and many of the Djann fled to Hell or other demesnes. Called the Slann, these demons became known for occupying crossroads and making Faustian pacts with mortals.

With the rise of the Demiurge, three immensely potent Djann goddesses created an enclave all their own. They took ownership of oasis and rivers, of deserts and mountain shelters. Potent as they were, they were able to fend off the New Gods such as the gods of Heliopolis and the Ennead.
