Elvira

Elvira, known as the Mistress of the Dark, was something of an occult celebrity in the 80s and 90s. The sorceress was one of the first spellcasters in many centuries to operate openly, advertising herself as a spellcaster. Some saw her as an illusionist, others a charlatan. A few recognized her talents for divination and witchcraft despite being a somewhat average magus by most standards.

The Witch Covens of America reviled her. She proclaimed herself as a witch despite not having Coven approval. With the help of some mystical allies, including Kent Nelson and a young John Constantine, she managed to evade them by claiming ownership of the House of Mystery. The covens grudgingly rescinded the kill order, recognizing that the stewardship of the House meant she was custodian of the mysteries of the Covens.

In 2018, the house transferred to John Constantine after a game of cards went badly for Elvira. The precise details of the encounter are somewhat fuzzy, but it involved loaded dice, a few fae, and a pineapple. None of which were relevant to the game of strip poker at hand.
