Dream is the third Endless, a potent and sentient ideologue who oversees all mortal dreams and imaginations from The Dreaming. The current Lord of the Dreaming is called Daniel; his predecessor for uncounted eons before was known as Morpheus.

Among the Endless, Dream has more contact with mortals than all but Death. The dreams of all living beings coalesce in the Astral Plane and by far, The Dreaming is largest realm of the Astral Plane. It is in the Astral that the New Gods found their nascent forms, conjured by the dreams of the First Gods and the pre-sentient Demiurge.

In 1916, a major cosmic rearrangement did not occur. This was due to the intervention of The Endless, putting right the order of reality by ending the life of a 'vortex' that was collapsing all dreams into a single chaotic instance of shared unreality.

Weakened and distracted, Morpheus was summoned by an occult ritual performed by the occultist Hannibal Burgess. Morpheus was trapped inside a mystical prison for most of 70 years. This triggered a prolonged era where dreams were chaotic and dangerous. The realm of the Dreaming began to disintegrate during his absence. It was 1986 before he was returned to his station as Lord of the Dreaming. Two years later Morpheus was destroyed by an aspect of the Fates and replaced by a new manifestation of Dream, who called himself 'Daniel'.

Daniel tends to manifest among humans with pale skin and a shock of untamed white hair. His eyes are glittering stars in a field of shadow, glimmering with the power of the Dreaming.
