I think we should review this one last time. I'm Ezekiel Sims. When I was twenty, I broke into an ancient temple, things got ugly, and a spider god gave me powers. I know, it's not what I expected, either. But for over thirty years, I've been a confirmed spider man, working with a secret society to protect the Earth... and accruing an obscene fortune. I started a corporation (mostly web-based), bought some helicopters, and made friends with a sorcerer. Who would have done any differently? I've learned a lot over the years. Did you know there is a supernatural food chain, and spider people are on it? That's not good. I trained a spider girl once. Mistakes were made, but she's done me proud. You want to know what happens next? That's the five million dollar question...

Timeline:
* 1969: Ezekiel Sims is born on December 1st and takes an interest in mysticism as he grows up.
* 1985: At 16, Ezekiel accompanies his mentor to Peru where they discover an ancient temple dedicated to the worship of a spider god. Upon their return to the United States, Ezekiel's elderly mentor passes away. Ezekiel carries on the work, but with limited resources, he makes little progress.
* 1989: Ezekiel has an epiphany when studying west African tribal religions, and scrounges for months to afford a ticket to Ghana.
* 1990: With the help of a sketchy local man, Ezekiel locates the Temple of Anansi in Ghana. Unable to pay the promised fee, Ezekiel is seemingly abandoned by his guide. But the man returns by night, subduing Ezekiel and lashing him to the Anansi shrine before stabbing him through the heart, robbing him, and leaving him for dead. Ezekiel is chosen by the entity called the Master Weaver to become the avatar of another spider deity, called the Conservator. After some time in the shrine, Ezekiel is discovered by a mage with the Spider Society, who had been magically alerted to the awakening of a new spider-totem. Ezekiel is nursed back to health, inducted into the Spider Society, and trained in the use of his abilities. On the advice of society members, he returns to college.
* 1994: The Spider Society is going broke. Ezekiel, now an MBA, founds WebCorps as a front, and constructs a labyrinthine, extra-legal tangle of shell companies to protect it.
* 1999: WebCorps is listed on the Fortune 500. Ezekiel celebrates his 30th birthday. It's a hell of a year. But for Ezekiel, it's just a good start.
* 2018: Ezekiel Sims is a billionaire and the owner of the Sims Building, the home of WebCorps and secretly the headquarters of the Spider Society. Ezekiel notices that the spider-totems are multiplying rapidly and fears this will attract extra-dimensional attention. During Loki's assault on New York, while coordinating with WebCorps to assist in civilian rescue operations, Ezekiel discovers a young Cindy Moon, newly-bitten and valiantly attempting to mount her own defense. Her lack of experience, however, places her in a dire situation. Ezekiel intervenes, and takes it upon himself to train the young woman. It is discovered that her parents have gone missing in the attack. Assuming the worst, Ezekiel keeps this information to himself.
* 2020: Cindy Moon has demonstrated exceptional talent in the use of her abilities. As teenagers are wont to do, Cindy Moon decides she's had enough training and sets out on her own. Ezekiel fears for her, but reminds himself that there is an Other.
* 2022: Ezekiel's engineering team complete the refurbishment of the 24th floor of the Sims Building. It's time.

Personality

Beguiling:
As a rather successful businessman, Ezekiel is no stranger to massaging the truth. Whether it be a lie of ommission, a misdirection, or an outright fabrication, Ezekiel can and often does use deceit to achieve his goals.

Charming:
Ezekiel has honed his personality through years of board meetings, investor dinners, and corporate spitball sessions. Professional, polite, and unpretentious, Ezekiel is modest, but confident, direct without being rude, and kind, but not overly-familiar -- unless he chooses to be. And he is present. When you're speaking with Ezekiel, it's like you're the only person in the world.

Protective:
Whether it's the spider-deity called the Conservator, just a natural part of his personality, or some combination of the two, Ezekiel is a protector. It is difficult for him not to act when others are in need, particularly those related to the Spider Society or various totems, even if his pursuit of the ends may cause him to overlook the morality of the means.

Willful:
From an early age, Ezekiel has demonstrated an exceptional ability to achieve his goals. Once his sight is set on something, he pursues it with laser-focus. Though this certainly caused him problems in his youth, as he has grown older, he's found it to be an incredible asset.

Character Sheet

Powers

Spider-Sense:
Ezekiel's spider-sense allows him to detect distant vibrations in the Great Web, giving him an advanced awareness of threats.

Spider-Sense Immunity:
Like Spider-Man, Silk, and many spider-related individuals, Ezekiel's presence does not trigger the spider-sense of others.

Superhuman:
Ezekiel's physical traits -- strength, speed, agility, stamina, durability, and reflexes -- have all been augmented to levels beyond the peak of human capability. He can lift about nine tons under optimal conditions.

Wall-Crawling:
Ezekiel can stick to things with the best of them. Although in his case, it's not barbed fingers, an electromagnetic bond, or suction cups. For Ezekiel, it's simply... magic.

Skills

Amateur Arachnologist:
Of course he is. He keeps several spiders as pets, and oftens enjoys books and documentaries about spiders. Though no expert in the field, he takes great pride in his smaller counterparts, and considers them his family.

Arch-Capitalist:
In the thirty years since first focusing his attention on attaining material wealth, Ezekiel Sims has cultivated a vast fortune in the billions of dollars. He has successfully spun a complex web of dummy corporations, shell companies, and offshore accounts to protect his efforts, culminating in the Sims Building, the home of no fewer than 20 different companies (many of which are owned, in secret, by Ezekiel himself). While his actions may have been beyond the scope of what some governments would consider "legal," Ezekiel considers the work he is doing with the Spider Society to be of paramount importance. At least the helicopter is licensed.

Knitter:
There's no easy way to say this, but he likes to knit things, out of yarn. Ezekiel Sims is exceptionally good at knitting. He loves it. He orders special yarns from catalogs, and nobody's allowed to touch his fancy gold-plated knitting needles, but on the plus side, he might make you a hat if you're nice to him.

Occult Practitioner:
Ezekiel has been involved with the Spider Society for over thirty years. In that time, he has learned a great deal about mysticism, and as the sole avatar of the Conservator, is very knowledgeable and competent where the pantheon of spider gods is concerned. He is familiar with the history, rites, and hidden locations related to the Master Weaver and related deities, with Ezekiel's expertise exceeding that of most who are not actual sorcerers.

Spider-Brawler:
Eschewing martial arts training from the Spider Society, Ezekiel utilizes a breezy, informal fighting technique which de-emphasizes technical maneuvers in favor of intuitive, free-flowing strike-and-fade tactics. Pursuant to the Spider Society's No-Kill policy, he is careful to pull his punches against weaker opponents.

Resources

Sims Building:
A 25-story office tower overlooking the Brooklyn Bridge from the southeast corner of the Financial District. Located at 200 John Street, Manhattan, this glass-and-steel beast was overengineered for structural integrity from its very inception, and features a large spider symbol on two sides. The building has a lobby at street level, over which is suspended a sign reading, "SIMS BUILDING," and security personnel man the front desk. WebCorps occupies the 17th floor, while Ezekiel keeps the top two floors for his own purposes. The rest is rented out, as often as not to companies Ezekiel himself secretly owns. He has recently completed renovations on the 24th floor, the only floor without windows. The roof features a helipad, upon which is often parked a large, black helicopter.

Sims Holding Int.:
A repository for a portion of his personal fortune, and the entity which owns the Sims Building, Sims Holding International is the piggy bank into which Ezekiel dips when he's feeling froggy. It may be a new car, a fancy filtration system for an exotic pet, or just some very special yarn, but whatever it is, Ezekiel can probably afford it. He just has be thoughtful about the IRS.

Spider Society:
The Spider Society is a small, insular sect devoted to the worship of totemic spider deities. Founded in Spain in 1099, the Spider Society uses Hunters, assisted by Mages, to combat the Sisterhood of the Wasp (an opposing religious group), and other threats. Today, the bureaucracy of WebCorps has obscured its more esoteric beginning, but true believers in the organization still fight to defend and protect the Spider Society's divine legacy.

Webcorps:
Founded by Ezekiel Sims as a front for the Spider Society, WebCorps is a large corporation operating out of the seventeenth floor of the Sims Building in Manhattan. In addition to subsidiaries including an international import/export firm, WebCorps owns the rights to a suite of proprietary computer code, including software used almost universally in Internet-based financial transactions. This ensures a steady flow of royalty capital and has helped the company secure a position on the Fortune 500 list off-and-on for the last twenty years.

But WebCorps isn't just what it appears to be. Rather, WebCorps is an international, private paramilitary and information-gathering organization consisting of devotees of the Spider Society and their allies. Via a bureaucratic board of directors, WebCorps can bring to bear a variety of standard, human-level tactical equipment and technologies against perceived threats. Surveillance, escape and evacuation, and sabotage are all well in their wheelhouse, but these activities are subject to the approval of the board (unless some young hotshot breaks rank).

Weaknesses

A Lot To Lose:
Ezekiel is what some people might label a "shady businessman." While he has been extraordinarily successful, you can't make an omelette without cheating the system. From monsters to the Taxman, the list of possible threats to Ezekiel's livelihood is incredibly long, and because of the Spider Society's role in protecting the Web of Life and Destiny, any successful attack on Ezekiel may have disastrous consequences for the entire multiverse. So there's that.

Bug Spray:
Ezekiel is extremely sensitive to certain types of insect-repelling chemicals, which can diminish his powers for a short time, and kill him if he is overexposed.
