He doesn't have Tony Stark's engineering genius or Bruce Wayne's sense of social responsibility, he just has money to burn and the gonads to be the next Big Damn Hero - and he intends to prove it.

Personality

Family Man:
Franklin Spade, Jr. may not be good at family, but family is always the thing that drives him. He wants respect from his partners, children, and father, and getting it is often on his mind - but he always seems to mess it up, thanks to his obnoxious and often obtuse personality. Still, family is the one thing he'd sacrifice for - especially his daughters. And his son, when he remembers he's around.

Jerkass:
Franklin Spade, Jr. is the kind of guy who says what he thinks, when he thinks it. Like his father before him, he's developed layers of protection for his ego. The first is to project confidence, which usually means being loud and self-assured about any claim he makes, without worrying about whether it's true or appropriate or kind. The second is humour, used to make himself look witty; he can always claim something was a joke later. The third is verbal attack: using derogatory language and put-downs to defend or preemptively undermine people who call him out, question him, or disagree. Some find his attitude entertaining or have an appreciation for his perceived sincerity, but he tends to piss people off.

Schmoozer:
Despite his often-abrasive personality, Franklin Spade, Jr. does have a certain charm he can turn on when he needs to, and 'when he needs to' often means when he's talking to women. It might not work all the time, given that savvy sorts will often see through his agenda, but it's been enough to get him into (and out of) marriages with, as he'd put it, some major league hotties.

Character Sheet

Powers

Luck:
Like his father before him, Franklin Spade, Jr. has improbably good fortune. It often goes unnoticed, because it doesn't prevent bad things from happening to him at all, but it means that things almost always seem to work out for him in spite of his own competence (or lack thereof). It's the reason that he went from bankruptcy and a failed financial company to greater fame and fortune than he'd ever had before. It's not often tested, but it works at a micro as well as macro level; he might get his ass kicked, but end up winning a fight anyway thanks to some twist of fate. It often covers for where he lacks as a superhero; he might not have the best R & D, and his more obviously useful prototype gadgets might fail, but his more esoteric devices have a knack for turning out to be just the right thing in a given moment - even if it's not what they were meant for.

Skills

Athletics:
Franklin Spade, Jr. has been undergoing daily athletic training since he began his ambition to become a superhero. He's not at peak fitness, and he's past his prime, but he's got the speed and stamina to outmatch your typical street criminal and can bench three hundred pounds comfortably.

Business:
Franklin Spade, Jr. has a B.S. in Economics, and he's B.S.'d his way through the economy for years. He's not as refined as he ought to be when it comes to the details of running companies, but he has a nose for business opportunities and a knack for making them work - or at least coming out ahead when they fail spectacularly.

Chutzpah:
Franklin Spade, Jr. has an audacious quality that allows him to meet external threats with far more confidence than he should have, on paper. The only thing that keeps this from backfiring too disastrously in most cases is his own preternatural good fortune.

Combat:
Franklin Spade, Jr. has spent a year in intensive martial arts training, learning a combination of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, karate and kick-boxing, and continues to maintain training in those styles. He can hold his own in a fight, but still has quite a bit to learn about fighting in real, life-or-death situations. He has also begun training with his prototype hand weapon, the 'Mace of Spades,' which is wielded in the fashion of a hammer.

Franklin has also practiced in simulations with his experimental side-arm, the BFG, and has mediocre marksmanship with the weapon - though a combination of luck and the weapon's unpredictable area of effect tends to result in him managing to achieve his ends with it.

Demagoguery:
Franklin Spade, Jr. has a knack for getting people on his side by appealing to their prejudices or desires, though he's not always intentional about it, and it can often turn many people against him. He's also pretty good at getting people angry, which he can use to unbalance them socially or in tense situations.

Driving:
Franklin Spade, Jr. has always been an aggressive driver and a speed demon. While a hazard in civilian driving situations, the skill could actually come in handy in situations where such reckless driving is actually necessary.

Resources

Bfg:
Designed by SpadeTech and named by a gaming geek amongst their number, the BFG is a sidearm that fires spherical projectiles that explode upon impact to release a high-intensity localized sonic burst. What this tends to mean is that a direct hit will knock most ordinary humans on their ass, if not out cold, in addition to a disorienting effect. It can also cause some materials, like concrete, to crack with the intensity, and could be used to burst through walls. Due to imperfections in the design and production, it occasionally fires duds or otherwise malfunctions.

Costume:
Designed to his personal specifications, Franklin Jr.'s 'Mr. Badass' costume prototype is designed primarily with personal safety and aesthetic in mind. Favouring protection over agility so far, the suit can absorb small arms fire and typical cutting weapons, severely dampening blunt impacts, and even protect from explosions at a certain distance. However, it does have its weak points around the joints, and it can impede movement at times. Not to mention, it's pretty heavy - though by that merit, it does pack a punch. It also includes a gas mask, because Franklin Jr. believes gas masks are badass.

Gadgets:
Franklin Spade, Jr. usually has an array of gadgets at his disposal, from tear gas bombs to jetpacks - though few have been stamped for approval as permanent elements of his kit, and they're not generally as efficient or reliable or effective as those used by more competent gadgeteers.

Mace of Spades:
One of the only well-designed and consistent prototype devices in Mr. Badass' arsenal so far, the Mace of Spades is a project by Sylvia Stover. Designed to deliver concussive bursts with each blow that would allow it to serve as a less-than-lethal backup weapon, the weapon wasn't yet fully calibrated when Franklin came across it, striking with sufficient force to send a grown man flying. Franklin was happy with the overtuned power level and currently employs it as such - though it also has a tendency to sometimes short out when the battery becomes overtaxed.

Media:
Franklin's father has extensive connections and holdings in media outlets, including the conservative local paper 'The Gotham Sun' and its electronic network based in Gotham City. Between those, a large social media following, and Franklin Jr.'s company Spade Productions, he can muster a fair amount of torsion when trying to spin things in his favour - though not everyone respects the journalistic integrity of those media enterprises.

Spadetech:
Originally a computing hardware firm called 'Spade Electronics' that launched the failed platform 'Spade Ultra PC' in 1986, the formerly-ailing company now known as 'SpadeTech' was bought out from his father for a pittance by Franklin Jr. and rebranded, its research and development division injected with an influx of capital and personnel by Franklin Jr. in order to design new technological projects to support Spade Jr.'s 'Mr. Badass' persona. Unfortunately for Franklin Jr., the startup lacks the visionary leadership or top-notch personnel that those he would like to consider his peers have access to so far - aside from Sylvia Stover, an overworked and undervalued scientist who might be one dropped portfolio away from supervillainy.

Wealth:
The son and heir of a billionaire, Franklin Spade, Jr. is extremely wealthy in his own right, by most standards. He has millions of dollars in savings and investments and is the owner of Spade Productions, a company focused on reality television productions valued at over $100 million, and his annual income from his role as President of SpadeCo is in the seven figure range.

Weaknesses

Abrasive:
Franklin Spade, Jr. has a knack for rubbing people the wrong way, and not always on purpose. This often alienates people around him and gets him in trouble with people whose opinions he actually cares about - like the board of directors at SpadeCo, or his children. It can make finding allies a challenge when he's willing to admit that he needs them.

Chauvinist:
Franklin Spade, Jr. tends to present as a sleazebag or chauvinist when it comes to women, and often makes masculinity-based slights against other men. The truth is that he has issues with intimacy after the death of his first wife and fears being seen as un-masculine, as well as a resentment of his second wife and, to some degree, his mother.

Daddy Issues:
Franklin Spade, Jr. would never admit it, but more than anything else, he seeks affirmation from his father, who rarely gives it to him. This leads him to follow in his father's footsteps, despite the fact that many of those footsteps are faux pas. This often leads him to feelings of humiliation and anger, and makes him prone to manipulation by Franklin Sr. Unfortunately, it also means that he's hesitant to get close to his own son for fear of messing him up.

Daughters:
Franklin Spade, Jr.'s three daughters - Mariana, Millennia, and Mercedes - are all that he has left of his first wife. He sometimes tries too hard to involve himself in their lives, puts too much pressure on them, and sometimes doesn't make enough time for them, using work as an excuse for alone time - and at this point, it's safe to say that they're sick of him. If someone wanted to get to Franklin, the best way to do it would be through his daughters.

Franklin Spade Iii:
Franklin Spade, Jr.'s relationship with his only son is awkward at best and cold at worst. He intends to do right by the boy, but thinks that 'doing right' means paying Frankie III's way through life and otherwise avoiding the kid in hopes that his 'curse' won't pass on to his son. What he doesn't realise yet is that his son is a mutant waiting to express.

Incompetence:
Franklin Spade, Jr. just isn't as good at things as he'd like to think that he is. He's not a complete idiot, but he isn't as clever as he believes, and he tends to make his way through life through a combination of luck and bullsh**. He even bullsh**s himself. It mostly comes down to an unwillingness to admit to his mistakes or self-doubt, which stunts his ability to learn and grow from the ones he does make.

Prototype Tech:
Not all of Mr. Badass's tech has been properly field-tested. In fact, most of it hasn't. It's prone to not working the way that it's intended, or to outright failure. It'll probably take a lot of work before it becomes reliable, if ever.

Spade Family Curse:
After the death of his first wife, Franklin Spade, Jr., was told the legend of a family curse by his father. According to the legend, his grandfather was given a choice between marrying a gypsy woman and marrying an heiress, and when he chose the heiress, he and his line were cursed by the gypsy woman to 'be lucky in everything but love.' The heiress reputedly died shortly after their marriage, and Spade's grandfather used the money from her will to travel to America.

Whether or not the story is true, his family does have good luck - and a history of bad luck with marriages. Spade didn't believe in the curse at first, but after three marriages gone wrong, he's bought into the idea - and thus blames himself for the death of his first wife.

Xenophobic:
Franklin Spade, Jr. may be more progressive than his dynastic predecessor, but he still tends to have a fear of alien and unusual things. In particular, he distrusts literal aliens despite their shows of good intent, as well as mutants - he only trusts superheroes who rely on human ingenuity for their endeavours, though he also distrusts those who hide behind masks.
