An American teacher who at their lowest point in life was suddenly summoned to become an intergalatic space cop due to their sheer force of will. Which would be fine if they didn't have the social decorum of a silverback gorilla pounding its chest.

Timeline

Timeline:
* 1994: Born in Baltimore, MD
* 1997: His father descends into alcoholism and abuse
* 2006: Years of abuse take its toll, Guy starts acting out in school and becoming a juvenile delinquent
* 2012: Guy's older brother Mace who has joined the police catches Guy stealing a car and beats him badly, but it comes with a pep talk and loan of cash to get him into college. Strangely this seems to work.
* 2017: Guy graduates and lands a job as a gym teacher, the same year his father passes away and the two manage to make peace a couple weeks before his death.
* 2018: Guy is injured in a car accident and hospitalized but meets a therapist Kari Limbo with whom he strikes up a relationship. While in the hospital his brother is killed by drug-dealers and identified as a dirty cop. Still hurt Guy leaves the hospital to find the dealers and exact revenge, but is overwhelmed and beaten into a coma.
* 2019: Guy awakens after several months. Kari has left him and he's told he's suffering from some brain damage. He recovers though in the early parts of the year and takes to physical training like never before. Near year's end he's selected as a Green Lantern candidate and taken to Oa for training.
* 2020: Gardiner returns to Earth after a year's training. Despite a higher number than usual reprimands during training it's decided the high- conflict planet needs another Lantern Corp member.

Personality

Sense of Honor:
Despite his anger issues, Guy does not believe in killing his foes unless no other options are available, and he has strong feelings about beating those who cannot defend themselves which tends to bring up memories of his father he'd rather forget.

Stubborn Pride:
All Green Lanterns are chosen in large part for their willpower which serves to strengthen their bond to the Green Light energy. It's rumored Guy's willpower may be the strongest of them all, but at the detriment of his rather, abrasive personality. Once Guy has decided on a course of action it's difficult if not impossible to convince him otherwise. He KNOWS he's right and will inform everyone of such and has no fear of breaking rules, codes of conduct, or faces to get his way.

Temper:
Raised in an abusive household taught Guy that acting out when you're angry is, well typical. While he's not a child he is quicker to anger than most grown men, potentially violent so, something that grows scarier with the power of the ring.

Powers

Power Ring:
Guy Gardner's powers are derived from the Green Power Ring he wears and has bonded with. Using it he can create constructs out of green energy which have actual mass and with enough practice/knowledge/creativity function as well. While some have rated Hal Jordan as having the greatest willpower of all, Guy is oftentimes seen as right there with him if not exceeding at times. Unfortunately Guy is also...one of the least creative Green Lanterns which can heavily offset this. The bond with his ring does have other benefits as well though, allowing him to communicate with Oa/other Lanterns, sense the ring even when it's off his person, and call it back to himself among other minor abilities.

Skills

Lantern Training:
For better or worse all of Guy's most useful skills have come with his year-long crash course training on Oa. While the Lantern Corp training is intense and covers a wide variety of combat, space knowledge, and intergalactic law, it's still only 1 year. He spent 4 earning a liberal arts degree which while useful in a teaching position, is unlikely to have much application in hero work.

Resources

Lantern Corps:
While Lantern Corps members usually operate alone it is not unheard of for them to request help if need be from other nearby members or reporting to Oa directly in terms of dire emergency.

Weaknesses

America First:
It's one of those 'I'm not racist but...' moments with Guy. His abusive father did more than instill a violent temper in Guy, he would often go on about damn foreigners being responsible for why things were so bad. Hearing it so often eventually some of that took hold in Guy's head. One would think working with the Lantern Corps of all things would have helped break this but instead it's only extended and deepened it to aliens as his frequent conflicts with his fellow classmates and teachers demonstrated. He's perfectly able to work with non-Americans and aliens of course, he just happens to have a smug superiority complex about it when he does and is even less likely to listen to them.

Brain Damage:
The year before becoming a Lantern, Guy was badly beaten into a coma by a bunch of thugs he was going after for the murder of his brother. The head trauma exacerbated some of his worst personality traits. Stubborness, violent temper, other anti-social behaviors. While not limiting his intelligence necessarily, it's rather assumed it's also responsible for his very limited imagination as well, Guy's constructs tending to consist of 'large object to physically beat opponent with.' How he got through Lantern training like this is anyone's guess. On top of all this it is occasionally causing migraines which don't help matters in terms of his temper.
