A martial artist hailing from Hong Kong, Julie Yan grew up on the mean streets trying to make ends meet and help where she could. Studying under Aaron Kwok, doctor, martial arts master, and sorcerer on the sly, Julie's abilities lent themselves to learning the ways of sorcery and kung fu. After his death, Julie began a long trek across the world, studying abroad both academically and also in her martial talents. Her soul was bound to a phoenix at birth, giving her magical abilities such as chi manipulation and pyrokinesis, making her a fearsome warrior. Growing up surrounded by tales of superheroes, she's eager to live up to their reputations as she lends aid to the innocent and punishes the guilty, treating the heroes of the world with the same regard as one might give the gods of myth.

Personality

Compassionate:
Julie Yan is always quick to lend a hand, even to total strangers. This comes from her nature, encouraged by her mentor's attitude of upholding all life. If necessary Julie will put her life at risk for another's safety, and is perfectly willing to help others without expectation of reward. Nothing will provoke her as easily as seeing the innocent in need of aid.

Eager:
Growing up hearing about the heroes of the world, Julie jumped at the chance to become just like them once she was old enough. Now that she's stateside, she is quick to throw herself into the world of vigilantism, for better or for worse, fighting bad guys and defending the innocent at any cost, in the hope of becoming just like her idols one day, saving the world one good deed at a time. Also, she's a major fangirl and collects so much merchandise.

Fangirl:
Julie loves media. She's a gamer, an avid reader, loves movies and TV shows, and is a total media junkie in general. When she's not working, training, or off fighting crime it's not uncommon to see her playing her favorite games on stream for the adoration of viewers all over the world. She has a small following on social media as a result, and isn't afraid to admit it.

Character Sheet

Powers

Magic:
Julie is versed in chi-manipulation, using life energy to alter the world around her. She's an adept student, but still a novice, and is looking to improve her knowledge under a proper mentor. So far her powers extend to limited flight, and energy blasts.

Pyrokinesis:
Julie is able to manipulate and conjure fire at will, unleashing holy flames that can damage the demonic and otherwise paranormal. Her flames can be used to enhance physical blows or unleash fireballs. She's also fire resistant, allowing her to handle extreme heat that would cook others alive.

Superhuman Chi Abilities:
Julie is extremely agile and strong, giving her inhuman reflexes as well as the ability to crush rock to powder with but a blow, and lift ten times her weight such as cars and even punch down walls. She's able to recover in weeks from blows that would cripple normal people for life. While not as accelerated as Wolverine's healing factor, Julie's healing abilities make her a difficult person to kill, and can endure extreme blunt trauma without issue. She's also resistant to poisons and toxins, but not quite immune. Through her training and powers, she can resist psionic manipulation, but isn't entirely psychic-proof.

Skills

Dancer:
Julie is a terrific dancer, knowing it and martial arts have much in common. As such, she's had many gigs as a backup dancer or 'entertainer' on the side.

Martial Artist:
Julie is a natural martial artist, with near superhuman reflexes and speed. She uses a self-developed style called Talons of the Blazing Phoenix, which incorporates her chi magic and pyrokinesis in combat, as well as elements of dance and wushu. Julie is still working on refining her style, and is always open to new ideas.

Meditation:
Training under Sifu Kwok has given Julie immense focus. Using breathing techniques and tai chi, she can form clarity of thought and focus her mind like a razor's edge. Due to her control over chi, she can go for days without food or sleep while in a meditative trance without regard for discomforts such as cold or heat.

Multilingual:
Growing up in Hong Kong, a fairly multinational city-state, Julie has a solid command over most dialects of Chinese as well as Japanese, Thai, Korean, and English. If she can't speak it, she can at least read and understand it.

Weapons:
While preferring her bare hands or her scarf, Julie is trained in various melee weapons such as swords, spears, axes, whips, nunchaku and tonfa, and daggers. She's also had some fascination with firearms, from a childhood watching action movies she was way too young to watch, but has little practical experience.

Wire-Fu:
Practicing in parkour and gymnastics, Julie is very good at maneuvering through tight spaces and across wide gaps. Her powers even allow her to carry out techniques out of a Wuxia action movie, running up and across walls. She is also a graceful hand at evasion, allowing her to take on much larger and more powerful opponents with ease.

Resources

Crappy Moped:
Moped: Julie's gotten herself a moped, it's pretty out of date and a headache to work with but it's hers and that's all that matters.

Magic Scarf:
Magic Scarf: A gift from her Sifu, Julie uses a scarf imbued with chi scripts that allow her to conduct life energy through it. The scarf can be used as a grappling rope, to ensnare enemies, and as a whip. She can also channel her phoenix flames through the scarf as well to add fiery damage.

Weaknesses

Hot Headed:
Julie has a bad habit of rushing into scenarios without thinking first. It's led her to make questionable choices and throw herself into fights at the drop of a hat. Seeing other people in danger or insults to her pride will provoke Julie to start escalating the situation, which isn't great for someone who can break bricks and set stuff on fire.

Incomplete:
Julie's master died before he could finish her training. While she was a prodigy at martial arts, Julie has issues mastering the more mystical side of her abilities. What few spells she knows are fairly weak and unfocused, and she's seeking anybody with a grasp on the magical to help her finish her training, or at least grant her pointers.
