Kaldur'ahm is a young Atlantean sorcerer and adventurer. He is the biological son of the infamous Black Manta. At the age of 12, Kaldur'ahm began his mandatory two-year Atlantean military service. At the age of 14, he entered the Conservatory of Sorcery in Poseidonis where he completed his studies and graduated with great honors. Now, his sense of adventure and wanderlust have brought him to the surface world. Word is he has history with Arthur Curry, something about a nasty ambush that happened in Atlantis some years back. Whatever the details are, Arthur seems to like the kid well enough.

Extended Timeline:
* 2004: Kaldur'ahm is born in the Atlantean city of Shayeris. He is raised by his biological mother, an Atlantean named Sha'lain'a, and Calvin Durham, his foster father and a former Black Manta henchman, who was genetically engineered to breath underwater. Calvin was originally sent to infiltrate Atlantis but abandoned his mission and married Sha'lain'a after falling in love with her. Kal's biological father is Black Manta, who was with Sha'lain'a briefly.

* 2014: Atlantean purists, supported by Black Manta, staged a terrorist attack on Atlantis coinciding with a time where it was known that Arthur Curry would be present. The goal was to assassinate him and to generally cause as much fear and destruction as possible. 10-year-old Kal, in the wrong place at the right time, intervened during a moment when Aquaman was surprised by an ambush. It's difficult to say if the surprised Aquaman would have prevail, but the timely intervention of Kal certainly swayed the tide in Arthur's favor.

* 2016: Having completed his formal primary education, 12-year-old Kal enters into his mandatory Atlantean two-year military service. He serves with distinction and was awarded a commendation for saving a superior officer during an ambush by some merfolk.

* 2018: As a result of his military commendation, 14-year-old Kal is given the choice of any assignment. He chooses the leave military service and enter the Conservatory of Sorcery in Poseidonis. He excels at the study of Atlantean sorcery!

* 2018: In an effort to keep Black Manta away from her son, Kal's mother changed her name to Lucia Hyde and changed her son's name to Jackson "Jake" Hyde. They moved to New Mexico, far from the sea and tried to live a normal life.

* 2022: Jake can no longer stand living in hiding in New Mexico. He adopts the Aqualad mantle and moves to Metropolis to take his place among his fellow heroes.

Personality

Calm:
Kal is calm, soft-spoken, and level-headed. Having literally served in the military at the age of twelve, he learned to keep a cool head under pressure. Even amidst chaos and danger, he tends to think strategically and to analyze a situation and possible courses of action.

Impulsive:
He is still young and can sometimes be prone to impulsive acts, especially if he has convinced himself that he has carefully thought everything through.

Optimist:
In his heart, Kal is a good person. He looks for the best in people, and we so often find what we look for. That isn't to say he's naive. He knows bad exists and he's ready to meet it head on. But his default mode is trust and honesty and respect.

The Sea's Bequest:
Kaldur'ahm is a creature of the sea. He is primal and natural and playful and energetic. His legacy is that of the most ancient forms on life in the world, and his connection is to life and the living. He is a lover and a swimmer and a participant in the Great Play of Life. He is mentally ill-equipped to stand on the sidelines and observe.

Powers

Durability:
Although not invulnerable like Superman, Kal has extremely dense flesh. A bullet or knife or even a small to medium explosion would not damage him.

Electricity Generation:
Atlantean Sorcery. Kal channels power through enchanted eel tattoos on his on his arms. He attack with this electrical blast either by directing it through water or by physical touch or even a short distance through air. This can cause anything from mild discomfort to death (to a normal human) depending on how much energy he puts into the attack.

Gills:
Kal has gills on the sides of his neck. In addition to being able to breath air, he can breath normally under water with his gills.

Hydrokinesis:
Atlantean Sorcery. Powered by the mystical eel tattoos on his arms, Kal can manipulate water in wondrous ways. He can create water blasts, shields, cyclones, whips, waves, waterspouts that can carry him through the air, etc. His water blasts are capable of slicing through metal and other hard materials.

He is likewise able to harden water into extremely dense, concentrated physical items: swords, maces, sledgehammers, shields, etc.

He can't create the water from nothing, only manipulate existing water.

Super Strength:
Like all Atlanteans, Kal posses supernatural strength that is not proportional to his body mass, which is somewhat thin and lean. He is extraordinarily strong and likely could manage to lift twenty tons above his head and throw such a weight.

Temperature Resilience:
Kal can comfortably endure extremely low, sub-freezing temperatures.

Toxin Resistance:
Kal is immune to poisons and toxins.

Translation Spell:
Atlantean Sorcery. Kal can cast an incantation that enables someone to instantly speak and understand Atlantean for the duration of time that Kal focuses on the spell.

Skills

Kal was trained in combat by the elite Atlantean military. He is an absolute expert in hand-to-hand and melee weapon combat. Combined with his super strength, his combat skills make him an exceptionally dangerous opponent.

Multilinguilism:
Kal is fluent in English, Atlantean, ancient Greek, and modern Greek.

Resources

Darkwear:
Kal possesses special pieces of high-tech, enhanced dark clothing. They bear no logos or insignias and are technologically enhanced to provide stealth in most environments.

Stealth-Tech:
Kal wears an Atlantean military special operations suit. Controlled by the suits belt buckle, it can camouflage itself to patterns of dark gray, blue, or green, depending on the environment.

Stipend:
Shayeris/Lucia Hyde brought personal treasures with her from Atlantis and sold them for a handsome sum. She set up an account that releases money to Jake monthly so he can live without financial burdens among the surface dwellers.

Water Pack:
Kal has a metallic black backpack that holds pressurized water. He can manipulate this supply with his various water-manipulation abilities.

Water-Bearers:
One of Kal's signature weapons, these are twin hilts that he can use to create weapons with his hard-water constructs power, or to help manipulate water with his hydrokinesis power (water blasts, whips, etc.). They are enhanced in conjunction with the magical eel tattoos on his arms.

Weaknesses

Code of Honor:
Kal is about as good-hearted as they come. He holds fast to a strong, old-world ethical code not unlike a knight or cavalier. He will always avoid rather than check, and check rather than hurt, and hurt rather than maim, and maim rather than kill because he believes that all sapient life is infinitely irreplaceable and that no one person is ever all good or all bad. His strong belief in the redeemability of people can lead him to trust at the wrong times.

Deadbeat Dad:
Kal's biological father is the infamous Black Manta. In the past, Black Manta has been a bit schizophrenic with regards to his treatment of his son. At times he has been protective and at times vengeful and disappointed. Kal never really knows when Black Manta will enter into his life to bring weal or woe.

Dehydration:
Kaldur'ahm needs to stay hydrated, since Atlanteans dehydrate faster than humans. Specifically, he can survive three days without practically bathing in water before more lethal effects start to kick in. The longer he goes without being hydrated, the weaker his overall abilities will become.

Heat Sensitivity:
Kal is uncomfortable in high temperatures and very susceptible to heat exhaustion or heat stroke in temperatures that even normal humans can easily endure.

Ties To Aquaman:
It is no secret that Kaldur'ahm has ties to Aquaman, including having intervened in a terrorist attack by Atlantean terrorists. In that regard, Aquaman's enemies are Kal's enemies. Anyone wanting to hurt Arthur can easily start by hurting Kal.
