Kit Walker was born in 1916 to Michael Walker and Amelia Harrison. Amelia was the daughter of a wealthy shipping magnate; Michael was the inheritor of the title "The Phantom", a nom de guerre passed down from father to son since 1536.

Their home was "The Phantom Cave", a subterranean lair located not far from the smuggler's den of Madripoor.

When Kit turned 18, he took on the mantle of "The Phantom" from his father, who perished at the hands of the Sengh family of pirates. Kit tangled frequently with these pirates, smugglers, and human traffickers in the South China Sea-- mostly around Malaysia and the Philippines.

With the outbreak of World War II, the Sengh cabal began ferrying weapons and smuggling humans. Kit clashed with them frequently in his capacity as The Phantom, and eventually aided the Allied forces in the Pacific after World War II broke out. He was one of the 'mystery men' tasked by Roosevelt himself to assist the war effort.

Kit Walker died in 1956. His granddaughter, Maxine 'Max' Walker, now carries the title of "The Ghost Who Walks."
