Timeline:
* 1994 - Kurt Wagner was born in the Bavarian region of Germany. While his parents were a mystery to him, they were none other than Mystique, and the demon Azazel. Mystique had been masquerading as Raven Darkholme but when she went into labor she lost control of her powers, revealing her blue nature. Kurt was born blue and visibly different, and a mob chased mother and son out of the village Raven lived in. In the process, she killed the Baron she was married to and was forced to abandon Kurt in a well. Little did she know at the time, but Azazel had his eyes on the situation, rescuing Kurt from the well and leaving him with a woman by the name of Margali Szardos.

* 1997 - Kurt, Margali and his two foster siblings Jimaine and Stefan began travelling with one of the increasingly few circuses that criss-crossed Europe. Despite his differences, he is happy growing up and welcomed as a member of the circus family.

* 2007 - Though clearly a mutant from birth, Kurt begins to exhibit his teleportation powers.

* 2008 - Kurt joins the acrobat team in the circus, also performing solo. He becomes known locally for his skillful, death-defying feats high above the ground, with no net below as a safety measure.

* 2010 - Stefan leaves the circus. This both relieves and troubles Kurt, who had been developing feelings of attraction toward Jimaine.

* 2012 - New management at the circus wanted to shift Kurt's role away from being an acrobat into becoming part of the freakshow. This personally offends the young man, and with an increasing desire for travel and adventure already growing, Kurt decides to set out on his own.

* 2013 - After travelling the world on his own for a time, Kurt finds himself at the mercy of the mob for a second time in his life. The intervention of Charles Xavier saves him from potential death and he travels to America to see exactly what this new benefactor has to offer.

* 2014 - Kurt joins the X-Men during the Krakoa Crisis to assist with their missions. He relocates to Westchester afterwards.

* 2016 - Kurt completes his education under Charles Xavier.

* 2018 - After departing the X-Men for a time after serious injury during the Mutant Massacre, Kurt helps found the group Excalibur while recovering in Great Britain.

* 2020 - Having completed his teaching degree, Kurt returns to Westchester to give back to the Xavier School and rejoin the X-Men.

Personality

Adventurer:
Even when he was young, Kurt was instinctively attracted to the idea of strange places and strange sights. And if there is one thing that the life he's chosen has done, it has given him the opportunity to see both. He has traveled extensively to all corners of the globe. He has journeyed into outer space, to other worlds on a number of occasions. He has traveled through time and to entirely different realities and along the way has seen all manner of wonders and horrors. There is a part of Kurt that loves the excitement of his life, not just the chance to help people but to be able to do it while seeing and experiencing so many different things. He loves old movies, and he quite frequently treats the escapades of the X-Men and Excalibur as a sort of old-time swashbuckling serial. Filled with action and excitement, romance and honor. But he shouldn't be mistaken for an adrenaline junky. He knows that there is a time and place for this particular attitude, and he can be just as serious as necessary when required.

Compassion:
Though Kurt can be extremely humorous and playful, filled with quips and practical jokes, at his heart he is an extremely compassionate human being. He may look like a demon, but his humanity is undeniable, and it is rooted in his deep concern for the well being of others. Kurt genuinely cares about other people. Yes, he frequently has fun, but he does what he does because he wants to ensure that others do not suffer. He has seen the very best and the very worst that people have to offer and he strives to insure that more and more people only have to deal with the former, rather then the later. His concern for the well being of others is part of what has made him a very effective leader over the years. He is unable to just look at people as pieces on the chessboard, to be moved about for advantage. Kurt always sees the human face in anyone, and is always a voice of reason and concern.

Dedicated:
Given how playful that he can be at certain times, it is easy to forget that Kurt has dedicated years of his life to helping others, with never a concern for how it benefits him. From the moment that Professor Charles Xavier rescued him from the hostile mob that planned to kill him, he has been entirely dedicated to the man's cause of peaceful co-existence between humanity and mutant-kind. It is a commitment that has never wavered. When Kurt genuinely sets his mind to something, it is almost impossible to turn him aside from his course of action. He is friendly, yes. He is funny and outgoing. But he can also be doggedly stubborn when it is something he truly believes in.

Optomistic:
Kurt's life has hardly been perfect. He is an 'orphan' of a sort, with neither of his true parents involved in his life. He has been hated and feared for no better reason then of how he appears. He has known tragedies of all sorts. He has lost loved ones. He has continually fought for a cause that seems almost hopeless at times. And throughout all of this, Kurt's belief in himself, in his friends and in the essential goodness of the world has never wavered. There are times when it seems that there is not a cynical bone anywhere in his body. In any situation, no matter how grim, it seems that he has an optimistic word or two, an unflagging enthusiasm that can't help but be contagious at times. It is not that Kurt never knows despair. Sometimes even he has found himself on the verge of giving into it. But he never allows it to last long.

Playful:
Being an X-Men means a life that is frequently filled with dangers of all sorts. It means being part of a greater world that frequently fears and hates them. It means dealing with and coming to terms with the worst sorts of tragedies. The loss of friends and loved ones. It means witnessing horrors that no one should have to face. In short, it is a very serious thing. But what is life without a little laughter and fun, right? In that respect, Kurt can always be counted to be there to flash a little perspective on things. While many of his friends and teammates can frequently be dark, moody and oh so serious, Kurt tends to go out of his way to puncture those angsty moments with his own brand of humor. He is a consummate prankster and makes an effort to fully enjoy life. And to insure those around him do so as well.

Religious:
Faith is a central tenant of Kurt's life. He has always had a strongly spiritual side, even from his earliest days. Some people in his position might rightly question the existence of God. They might refuse to believe in a God that could allow such hatred and prejudice exist in the world. Such hardship and suffering. They might curse any creator that would mark them so different, that would make them an outcast from the rest of the world. Kurt too, might have had his moments of doubt, his questions, but at his heart he takes comfort in his religion. His faith is one of the central tenets in his life and has lent him strength time and again when he has been faced with crises of all sorts. Time and again he has turned to God, even seeking to become an ordained priest at one point. Ultimately, the guiding tenets of religion are ones that Kurt has taken up in his life, and allowed them to lead the way. Compassion. Care for others. To always try to do the right thing. To put others above himself. These are some of the principles that Kurt holds most dear and shapes just about everything he does.

Romantic:
Over the years Kurt has been involved with a number of different women and he greatly enjoys the company of the opposite sex. But his sense of romance is rooted in something far deeper then his relationship with women. To be called a 'hopeless romantic' is not something that Kurt would take as an insult. Indeed, it might be the highest of compliments. His romanticism is rooted in his sense of idealism, in his belief of taking life and making it fun, enjoying it to the fullest. It is rooted in his belief that fundamentally the world is a good place, where the just will always, inevitably, triumph over the venal. He buys into those cliched sentiments that 'good triumphs over evil', that 'people get what they deserve'. He believes that the miraculous is possible. He believes in enjoying other people's company for themselves, instead of looking towards what they can do for him. He has an old fashion sense of values at times, a sort of code of honor and behavior that belongs to past centuries.

The Dream:
From the moment that Professor Charles Xavier rescued Kurt in Germany and brought him to his mansion in America, from the moment that he outlined the world that he fought for, Kurt has fully and completely embraced that Dream. And his conviction, his belief in its value, in its worth has never wavered. Like all the X-Men, Kurt does what he does to bring about a world where human and mutant can live together in peace. He believes that a world where mutants aren't immediately feared and hated just because of the circumstances of their birth is both possible and highly desirable. He believes in it so much that he has put his life on the line time and again to try and bring that dream to fruition and make it reality. It has been a struggle. It has cost him a great deal at times. But like any good thing, Kurt believes that it is worth fighting for. That it must be fought for.

Powers

Blending:
Like any mutant, Kurt has a number of remarkable abilities. The most basic and natural of them is the fact that the fine indigo fur that covers him not only can keep him warm, the color is also dark enough that it all but blends in against shadows or the dark of night. Functionally, in either of these two conditions he is all but invisible to the naked eye. If he's still, he probably can't be seen at all by anyone without enhanced senses or some sort of mechanical device. Even moving he is probably very difficult to spot. Obviously, when it comes to concealment this can be a very handy natural advantage to be blessed with.

Enhanced Agility:
Another of Kurt's abilities is the fact that his agility is far more heightened then any normal human being could hope to match. It's not just his phenomenal training as an acrobat that lets him accomplish all that he can. That just serves to make his natural agility that much more useful in various situations. His reaction time is amazing, allowing him to react to new situations in fractions of seconds at times. He can move with remarkable speed when necessary and navigate even the most narrow of surfaces quickly and safely. He can tumble like it's second nature, no matter how complex a pattern is necessary it seems. He can bend and contort his body in seemingly impossible ways. Obviously, his natural agility comes in handy in a large number of situations.

Night Vision:
As might be suggested by his bright yellow eyes, Kurt is able to see quite clearly in darkness that would be mostly opaque to others. Given his comfort in darkness or shadows that is no real surprise. He can not, however, see in the total absence of light. There needs to be at least some basic illumination for him to see. A partially moonlit night might be as clear as day to him, but if he is underground without any source of exterior illumination to aide him, he would be just as blind as anyone else.

Prehensile Tail:
Something that is frequently overlooked is the fact that Kurt's tail is prehensile and able to function just as well in essence as another arm. It is about three and a half feet in length and can grip things as easily as his hands. It can help him climb, hold on to other objects or even be used as another limb when fighting. It is even sensitive enough that he can manipulate a sword with some degree of skill with it. Obviously there are any number of ways that it can be used to give him a bit of an edge.

Teleportation:
The most spectacular of Kurt's abilities is his teleportation. Since he first used it at the age of twelve, Kurt has been experimenting with it, both to increase his skill and to discover the limits of his ability. All in all, Kurt has a range of about three miles with his jumps. He can leap up to five miles, but that tends to exhaust him. Likewise, he must be able to see where he is jumping for the most part. While he can make blind jumps, it is extremely dangerous and he never does so unless the need is exceptionally great. It is possible for him to carry one or two people with him on his jumps, though once again that is more taxing on him. It is especially taxing on his passengers however, who can be left feeling ill or even rendered unconscious. At the very least they are likely to be left a great deal more tired then they were before the jump. Under some circumstances, he can use his jumps as a weapon in this fashion, taking a person through multiple jumps quickly which almost always leaves any but the most resilient individuals unconscious. He can also make a number of jumps in a very short amount of time, appearing and disappearing in little more then a blink of an eye and he can even teleport part of an object, rather then the whole thing, something that is obviously rather damaging to the object itself. Such a maneuver does not work on living matter however, only the inanimate. Lastly of the noted attributes of his jumps is the fact that they make a little -bamf- sound when he vanishes, accompanied by the stench of brimstone. This is a result of the fact that in actuality, Kurt is travelling through another dimension when he teleports. The trip is virtually instantaneous for him and so he has not recognized the implications of this.

Wall-Crawling:
While it may look somewhat unnatural, the way Kurt's hands and feet are configured make it much easier for him to climb then ordinary people. So long as there is any sort of surface that he can get a grip on, he can climb quickly and easily. He can also keep his grip for prolonged periods without any difficulty, further aiding him in climbing, regardless of how sheer a surface. He does not adhere to surfaces however and as such he can not climb smooth surfaces or ones that are particularly slippery. He needs to be able to get a hold on things to make any progress.

Skills

Acrobatics:
When it comes to acrobatics, whether of the aerial variety or tumbling on the ground, there are few better at it then Kurt. On the most basic level, he has been blessed with a physiology that is almost perfectly designed for tumbling and high wire work. He is strong, but compact and has a natural agility that far surpasses what most normal people could ever be capable of. And if that were not enough, the unique way in which his hands and feet are formed let him clutch and cling much easier then he would with more normal limbs. Then, on top of all of that, he has a prehensile tail that serves every bit as good as an extremely nimble third arm while also helping to give him greater than normal balance. All that alone would make him a pretty formidable acrobat. But Kurt combines all those natural abilities along with years and years of formal training into a package that is pretty hard to beat. He is as comfortable flying through the air on the trapeze as other people might be walking. He can negotiate the most narrow of surfaces with little problems in keeping his balance, and do so quickly and surely. He can climb like no one else short of Spider-Man. And he is just as adept at tumbling on the ground, using flips and jumps with perfect ease. Aside from the obvious entertainment value these skills have, Kurt has found a practical approach for them as well. They mean that he doesn't have to rely on his teleportation mutation to get him out of danger. He is exceedingly adept at avoiding attacks by simply dodging them.

First Aid:
Working with the X-Men can be a dangerous thing. They often face down some of the most dangerous individuals in the world. Even the more mundane threats can still take a physical toll, as Kurt has learned on more then one occasion. Injuries are almost a guaranteed thing, at some time or another and there are times that there just is not a doctor around and handy. Which is why it is an awful good idea to at least have the basics of first aid down. Kurt is not a doctor. He isn't going to go around diagnosing illnesses or be of any use at all in surgery situations. But he can attend to the types of injuries that crop up in the field. He can clean and bandage wounds. He can perform CPR. He knows how to recognize the symptoms of shock and how to deal with it. He can set and split broken limbs or deal with sprains and strains. He can administer shots if there were some need to do so. Those are the types of skills that he has and they can come in handy all too often.

Leadership:
There are some people who gravitate to leadership roles quite naturally. Among the X-Men, if there is trouble, they just naturally expect that Scott Summers will step forward and take charge. Kurt is not like that. He has never sought to put himself in a position of authority over others. He has always been perfectly content to follow the leads of other people, those who he sees as being more capable, or at least more willing than himself. When he first found himself in charge of anything, he found himself racked by doubts and uncertainty and questioned his every decision. And despite the fact that his tenure was marked by no real disasters, he was still glad, even eager to hand the responsibility back over. At the same time, by the time he joined Excalibur he was far more prepared to deal with a leadership role and even when it wasn't handed to him on a silver platter, he still found himself adopting it simply because he was the most suitable. At the end of the day, Kurt is equally adept at being either a leader or a follower. He is completely comfortable at taking orders from those he trusts. There is no personal arrogance in him, no belief that his way is the only right way. He is very much the consummate team player. But at the same time, he has become more then capable of filling a leadership void. More then filling it. He is simply an excellent leader. He has a natural charisma that serves him in good stead, a confidence in himself that is rarely shaken and an ability to act quickly and decisively. Combine that with his years of experience and he has an excellent tactical sense as well that is second to only a few, both within the X-Family and without.

Mechanical Expertise:
Kurt does not have a great deal of formal education, but what he does have is a wealth of practical experience when it comes to dealing with machines and electronics. In his early years in the circus, there wasn't a great deal of money available to buy new things so when something broke down, it was important to know how to fix it. It was the sort of thing he took an interest in back then, helping out the few members of his extended family there to repair broken down equipment or vehicles. Joining the X-Men really only changed the level of technology that he was working with, but his basic skills served him in good stead. He's not capable of designing some high tech device from scratch and he's no computer hacker, able to break through security systems with ease. What he is capable of is utilizing, maintaining and making field repairs on just about any of the technology that the X-Men use. From giving a car a tune up, doing regular maintenance on the Danger Room, or even helping to repair the Blackbird, Kurt is very competent with mechanical devices and electronics.

Piloting:
Like most of the X-Men, Kurt was given instruction on how to pilot the Blackbird and showed a fair bit of talent for it. He is far from the best pilot among the team but he is more then capable of taking off, flying and landing safely. He has had instruction in dealing with unforgiving weather and emergency conditions and could guide it safely down in a crisis situation in all likelihood. He does not have his pilot's license, obviously, but does have the requisite flight hours logged so he could conceivably get it. While his training has almost exclusively dealt with piloting the Blackbird, it would not be terribly difficult for him to apply those lessons to other fixed-wing craft.

Self Defense:
Kurt is most definitely not what you would call a 'brawler'. But he is in excellent shape, physically fit and a superior athlete gifted with exceptional reflexes and agility. Those attributes alone would make him passably capable of defending himself. Coupled with that is the fact that he has had extensive acrobatic and tumbling training in his years growing up in the circus. Add in that he has studied and trained with some of the most gifted hand-to-hand fighters in the world, like Logan, and his long experience with the X-Men and Excalibur, and Kurt has long since learned how to take care of himself in a fight. He has put together his own fighting style that relies heavily on his agility, acrobatic ability and teleportation powers and created a most formidable style that frequently allows him to strike at his foe with near impunity while rarely having a hand laid on himself. However, after the events in the Morlock Tunnels against the Maruaders, Kurt has also learned not to always rely on his mutant gifts when fighting and has become a capable fighter in more conventional techniques.

Swordplay:
Having developed a fascination with older movies from decades earlier, especially those featuring actors like Errol Flynn, Kurt has developed a love of swordplay. Like with a great deal of the skills that he has picked up over the years, he lacks formal training for the most part. Growing up in the circus, there were those who were familiar with blade work and he certainly had the opportunity to learn, but for the most part he is a self-taught prodigy, learning as much from watching movies as anything else. As would be expected, this has given him a somewhat theatrical approach that is as much about style as it is substance. But an opponent who underestimated his skill with a sword would almost surely regret it. Theatric his style might be, but it is also deadly effective. On the whole, Kurt prefers the lighter swords used in fencing, like the foil or saber, or other such light blades like the rapier. It all ties into his fondness of the swashbuckler motif. But his own natural reflexes, and his quick study on the subject would likely make him almost as capable with any other the type of sword in short order.

Excalibur:
Having become a part of Excalibur shortly after being critically wounded fighting the Marauders in an effort to save Morlock lives during the Mutant Massacre, Kurt has a great deal of fondness for his teammates from that period. Excalibur marked a period of maturity for Kurt, where his playful, prankster persona became more well rounded as he took on greater responsibility in openly and capably leading the team. Whenever it is possible he still keeps in close contact with his friends from those days.

Image Projector:
When Kurt first joined the X-Men, Professor Xavier provided him with a holographic image projector that allowed him to disguise his true appearance and walk about normal humans without creating a stir because of his vaguely demonic appearance. For a time, Kurt gladly used it, but when Logan mocked his belief that he could be accepted with out it, challenging him to do walk around in the local village without it, he willingly set it aside. It was a challenge he gladly took up and from thereon decided to confront the world as he was, without resorting to any sort of subterfuge to conceal his true nature. It is a decision that Professor Xavier expressed grave doubts about, but one that Kurt has never regretted. Still, should there ever be any reason to do so, the technology still exists, out there waiting to be used.

Swords:
Given his love of swordplay, it is no surprise that Kurt has collected a number of blades over the years. For the most part he tends to favor the lighter sort of swords like foils, sabers, and rapiers. Aside from being expertly made and well balanced, there doesn't tend to be anything particularly special about his swords. He is always on the lookout for a new or unique blade.

X-Men:
The X-Men are more then his teammates. They are more then people with whom he struggles to insure a better future for mutants everywhere. They are more then friends. They have very much become his family. Ever since Professor Charles Xavier saved him from the rampaging mob that was willing to kill him largely on the basis of how he looked, he has embraced the dream of humans and mutants finding a way to live in peace, working together for a mutually beneficial tomorrow. He has put his life on the line time and again to try and bring that future about, and it is unlikely he will ever be swayed from that path. In that, he is united with the majority of Xavier's students. The mansion in Westchester has very much become a home to him. He has spent the greater part of his adult life living there, afterall, and he is fully committed to the others who live there. There is little that he wouldn't do for them, and he in turn knows that he can always depend upon them if he should ever be in need. As one of the team, he has full run of the Academy that has sprung up in place of Xavier's old homestead, with access to all levels and facilities present. He maintains a room there, and has complete access to the resources of the team. In return, he does his best to make sure he is always available when the other members of the team require his help and serves as one of the teacher's at Xavier's school.

Weaknesses

Demonic Appearance:
There is probably no more fundamental difficulty in Kurt's life then his appearance. Many mutants can almost blend in with normal humans. Others are radically different in appearance and marked as what they are. Kurt most definitely falls into the later category, but with one very unique difficulty. Most cultures in the world have some notion of demons or evil spirits. With indigo fur covering his entire body, with hands that only have two fingers and a thumb, feet that only have two toes, a long tail and bright yellow eyes, Kurt pretty much fits the bill for most of those legends. His appearance seems to instinctively cause fear in a large number of people. He has even had this problem among his fellow mutants, though generally when people get to know him they quickly see past his appearance, his friendly and outgoing personality banishing any fears. But for many, their first reaction is fear, something that all in all, Kurt has come to accept fairly well and without resentment.

Erratic:
For the most part, Kurt is a friendly, outgoing, and even playful individual who gets along with just about everyone and generally enjoys life to its fullest. But there are times when his behavior can get a little erratic as well. He can be an intensely spiritual individual and for the most part that gives him greater strength, but now and then it can also cause a crisis of faith within him. Given what he does, given the kind of things, phenomena, and beings that he has encountered, that can come as no surprise. He can fall into moody musings, when he pushes other people away, or he can simply start having wild mood swings or doing odd things. Fortunately, for the most part, he is extremely well adjusted and these erratic episodes do not come up too often.

Faith:
For the most part, Kurt's faith has been a source of almost unending strength to him. It is in large part his faith that allows him to so completely embrace Charles Xavier's dream of a better world. But every now and then it causes problems for Kurt as well. He is forced to confront horrors at times. That can't help but lead to questions. He has also been faced with phenomena or seemingly impossible beings that can't help but call his beliefs into question. There are even those who have been able to take Kurt's deep spiritual beliefs and twist them, using them against him. Kurt would never forsake his faith, but it has been shown to him that there are times that it is something of a double-edged sword.

Family Issues:
Kurt has a few family issues to put it mildly. While he may be unaware of it his mother is the mutant Raven Darkholme, sometimes known as Mystique. She killed his supposed father and reluctantly left Kurt in a well during her flight from an angry mob. Things aren't any better on his father's side of the family given that his dad is the demonic Azazel. Neither of his parents are going to win parent of the year and it might be best if Kurt never learns the truth of his somewhat sordid origins.

Not that his adopted family is without issues. While his foster mother, Margali Szardos was good to him and raised him as well as her own children, she took him in as part of a pact to gain greater dark magics and is generally not to be trusted. His foster-brother Stefan is not his biggest fan, in large part because he feels that Kurt and his foster sister Jimaine are a little too close. Add in other, unknown half-siblings and Kurt's Family Tree is pretty much in tatters.

Teleportation Limitations:
While his major mutant ability of teleportation is remarkably useful and has served him well over the years, it does come with some fairly substantial limitations. Kurt's teleportation is not designed for long distance travel. For the most part, he is limited to jumps of three miles or so. By truly stretching himself, he can extend that distance to five miles, but it takes a notably heavy toll on him. His teleportation abilities also do not extend well to others. Kurt can take one or two people with him by holding on to them, but those jumps tend to leave his passengers extremely sick, or even render them unconscious. It is also extremely dangerous for him to make blind jumps. There is a great danger that he could serious injured himself if he can not see where he is jumping to. Lastly, Kurt has problems when teleporting out of a moving vehicle. Because of the physics involved, Kurt moves in the same direction, and the same speed as he was when he made his jump. Thus great care is required when jumping from a plane or a car, or Kurt could seriously injure or even kill himself.

X-Villains:
Kurt has spent years fighting all sorts of threats with both the X-Men and Excalibur. Over the years there are not many sorts of threats that he hasn't faced. He has faced down some of the greatest threats that the Earth has ever produced. He has faced down threats of a more supernatural threats. He has thwarted foes from beyond the stars. His foes have numbered those from other realities. And he has fought any number of other mutant-based threats. There are dozens, if not hundreds of super powered criminals out there who probably have some sort of grudge against him. And even those who might not have a personal grudge against him might have one against his colleagues in the X-Men or Excalibur, which, as far as Kurt is concerned, amounts to the same thing. So in short, Kurt always has to be on his toes. And of course, while he may know nothing of the relationship at this time there are always his two parents who he is unlikely to see eye to eye with.
