Architect:
Lei Ling is a proponent of the Shanghai school of architecture and runs her own firm: Sacred Tree Design Studio. She specializes in large-scale residential, commercial, and memorial architecture. A master of her craft, Lei Ling is the youngest person to win the Pritzker Prize for Architecture.
Loyal:
Lei Ling lives in, designs for, and defends Shanghai. It is her honor and privilege to use her not unformidable intellect and abilities to both build and protect the city she was born in. Lei Ling is Shanghai's number one most popular superhero, with her own merchandise line, and she doesn't let that go to her head. Instead, Ling Lei rewards her popularity with her own steadfast dedication, often sacrificing her own personal life in defense of her home.
Mianzi:
Mianzi, or the Chinese concept of "Face", is respect, honor, and dignity; it is something extremely precious and one must be mindful of it at all times. It is summarized as:
* There is a hidden social structure in all situations, a ranking by face. It is crucial to understand the pecking order and interact according to it.
* The higher-ranked have the responsibility to protect and care for the lower-ranked. The lower-ranked have the responsibility to defer to the decisions and directions of the higher-ranked. For example, the highest-ranked should always pay for everyone's meals and the lower-ranked should defer to the payer's decision of where to eat.
* One gains face through others expressing deference. One loses face through making public mistakes or displays of incompetence. Face is not transferable, but some can diffuse through having a relationship with someone with much face.
Tiger Parenting:
In accordance with the Tiger Parenting style, Lei Ling was subject to the full attention and expectations of her parents as well as the nationally hyper-competitive academic environment. Her upbringing can be summarized as:
* There is no such thing as good enough. There is only the winner and then everyone else. One should never be satisfied with performing at less than perfect.
* The dreams of the parents are the dreams of the child, because the child owes their existence to the parents and is the only vehicle for their legacy.
* Success can only be a result of your own efforts and ability. While hired help is a perfectly legitimate resource to utilize, to ask for help is to admit weakness and failure.

Powers
Aerokinesis:
Lei Ling uses her own chi to control the air itself from the power of a hurricane to a gentle breeze. Her power maximums are strong enough to crush modern buildings; i.e. high grade concrete and more. Her control is finetuned enough to fit in the gap between armor plating. Her ability can be used to remove energy from air as well, stilling winds and nullifying air-conducted sounds. Her control is only limited by her willpower and the knowledge behind it.
A common application of air manipulation for Lei Ling is flight via surrounding herself with air currents. This flight is capable of high-supersonic speeds and sustained through static lift, allowing her to hover and fly. This flying ability also can be extended to others nearby and underwater with no loss in application. Altitude maximums are limited by thermal constraints, not pressure. She can further use her air manipulation to augment the power of her own blows.
Air Constructs:
Lei Ling is able to solidify air into objects, with shapes dictated by imagination, knowledge, and focus. Solid air objects are able to move and change shape through aerokinesis. They can be controlled out to approximately 2 km, but provide little sensory feedback on their own - they can't be used as visual or olfactory scouts. Air constructs have correct shapes but are not materially stronger than low-carbon steel. Common constructs include her own costume, platforms, swords, shields, fish, and humans.
The most complex application of air constructs is the formulation of avatar copies of herself, which can act as useful clones. Lei Ling is able to manage up to two avatars simultaneously while still moving and acting on her own.
Air Sense:
Lei Ling can utilize air currents to sense the intentions of other people through their heartbeats as well as their emotions, such as being calm. She sees them as "threads." Her range with this is at least a city. She can also use it to tell if someone has an item on their person and if someone is trying to sneak up on her.

Architecture:
Lei Ling has mastery of structural architecture and civil engineering.

It has approximately 25 employees and mainly takes contracts from private developers for large residential and commercial structures. She is currently attempting to open a New York branch office.
Weaknesses
Culture Shock:
Americans are not like the Chinese. Their cities and air are cleaner, the people have no concept of the complex structure of gaining and losing face, they?re loud and open with their excited overtures of friendship. Filial piety isn?t the same. The water in restaurants is cold when it should be hot and the baristas all expect her to say hello and make small talk. She?s a bird in the wrong skies and hasn?t a clue how to behave sometimes.
Emotional Stability:
Her powers are managed by her willpower and knowledge, and any major deviations in her emotional or mental state can affect her powers in unexpected ways. For instance, if she?s preoccupied thinking about her younger sister?s lack of a significant other or how her mother would like grandchildren, it is very likely she might lose focus over her flight right after jumping off a building and go plummeting to her death unless she can get herself back together before she hits the ground.
Tiger Mom:
The overbearing reach of her mother is as long as the winds are many. Her expectations for Lei Ling are myriad and oppressing, the kind of thing to keep her up at night. Lei Ling?s mother will call at the worst times and expect her to defer and bend, acquiesce to every little request, and be the perfect child to carry on her mother?s hopes and dreams.
