Lunella Lafayette is a prodigy in engineering, mathematics, and paleontology. A Happy Harbour student dual enrolled at Empire State University, she has grand plans for the future that took a turn when an accident teleported her -- and her mentally-bonded companion, Devil Dinosaur -- to the hidden civilization of Attilan. She only recently learned of her Inhuman heritage. Exposure to Terrigen gave her a telepathic bond with a Tyrannosaurus rex and intelligence that's off the charts. Now facing a brave new world, she hopes to improve the state of her people and mankind in any way she can.

Timeline

Timeline:
* 2003: Lunella is born in New York to Jacob and Yara Lafayette. Jacob is aware of his Inhuman heritage, but Yara is not of hers.
* 2006: Lunella becomes highly interested in STEM topics, particularly Legos. Jacob enrolls her in a junior computer programming class, and doesn't seem surprised when she advances to the middle school levels within a year.
* 2007: She enrolls at Public School 20. Teachers report the difficulty of keeping her properly motivated. She excels at engineering and programming, swiftly outpacing teachers.
* 2009: Anna Silver repeatedly bullies Lunella for her intelligence. Yara and Jacob enroll her at Happy Harbour.
* 2010: Lunella attends Happy Harbour until she graduates. She makes fast friends with several other exceptional students. Her only apparent excellence is her intelligence and grasp of STEM.
* 2012: When a gene bomb erupts, Lunella awakens from troubled dreams of hunting for prey and running through forests and grasslands. Her dreams persist, but she mostly writes laughably bad fan fiction about them.
* 2017: Lunella starts taking audited classes online. Several professors at Empire State University encourage her to enroll part-time, and she samples engineering, computer science, and paleontology.
* 2018: Lunella asks to enroll full-time for a masters program. Yara flatly refuses. Jacob arranges for private tutoring to challenge her. This is a challenge to find a tutor.
* 2020: She develops an interest in dinosaurs after visiting the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History. She helps with a student movie about T. Rexes and other Cretaceous dinosaurs.
* 2021: Lunella interns at the American Museum of Natural History's dinosaur exhibits as a student intern.
* 2022: Lunella finds an Omni-Wave Projector boxed up in a forgotten warehouse during a routine exhibit change when asked to find another object. Associate Professor Hrbek accidentally triggers the projector and Lunella makes contact with Devil Dinosaur, who is pulled through from another realm to Earth. In the ensuing chaos, the Omni-Wave Projector keys into Lunella's Inhuman DNA and teleports her and Devil Dinosaur to Attilan. The projector is lost in the East River and subsequently destroyed.
* 2022: Triton brings Lunella to Karnak at the Tower of Wisdom. The Magister confirms she is Inhuman and he helps to train her, while arranging for messages to be sent to her parents that she's well, sound, and busy. Her dad is resigned but secretly relieved.

Personality

Driven:
When Lunella sets her formidable mind to something, she pursues it as doggedly as a bloodhound on a scent. She can narrow down her concentration so nothing distracts her. Setbacks to her are merely aspects of a game, waiting to be deciphered and resolved. Where others might throw aside their work in frustration, her mental resilience adapts smoothly to the problem and seeks another path to her chosen destination. This kind of ambition, at its darkest, can be an implacable drive to the exclusion of all else. But her innate kindness and playfulness prevents Lunella from often traversing that road.

Insecure:
Lunella is used to being an outsider due to her extreme intellect. She can count on being the person that earns unwanted attention because she put her hand up early or understood something faster than nearly everyone else. It translates into her downplaying her own charm and smarts to fit in. She often second guesses herself around others, worrying about how they perceive her or if she somehow offended them. At heart, she is so kind and concerned about other people that sometimes she forgets what wonderful qualities she brings to the table. In moments of anxiety and stress, she needs to look inside herself for strength and assurance instead of searching for that validation outside.

Mischievous:
Lunella is light-hearted and occasionally given to bouts of mischief. Her intent is never harm, only earning a laugh. She discovered early on humour is a good ice-breaker and a way to disarm the unease shown by people her age or adults when confronted by someone who could hold her own against luminaries like Banner, Wayne, Richards, or Doom. She likes to have a joke up her sleeve to lighten the mood when things seem tense or make someone laugh when they need a pick-me-up. She cares about others and uses stories and games to help make that possible.

Sincere:
Lunella's enthusiasm and kind nature are at the core of who she is. What you see is what you get: a brilliant but sunny girl embracing life with both arms in a death hug. She is sincere in her affections and interests. Deceptive behaviour is a waste of time and energy without any purpose, and she has no time for that! The world is a great place to be, full of wonderful opportunities, and there's not a minute to be wasted. Her delight can be infectious. She wants to share that with others for no reason other than that she believes in the best. Her gifts from terrigenesis haven't changed fundamentally who she is.

Character Sheet

Powers

Genius:
Lunella tested very high academically, but after terrigenesis, she leapt to arguably one of the most intelligent people on Earth. Her altered neural network processes and retains information at a remarkable rate. She excels at creative networking, a form of extrapolating outcomes or making inferences based on a particular data set available to her. Her mind number-crunches hard and particularly excels in STEM pursuits. Brilliance for her comes from making a series of logical hypotheses and conclusions, analyzing, and problem-solving. She has the ability to learn quickly and put that theoretical knowledge to practical use to a degree staggering even in Inhuman society.

Lunella's genius is indisputable, restricted primarily by a lack of experience.

Inhuman:
Lunella is a full-blooded Inhuman subjected to terrigenesis as a child. She has the amplified abilities of her race. She has physical abilities exceeding those of a super soldier, like Captain America.

She can work for hours or exert herself strenuously without experiencing fatigue. Her stamina exceeds the finest Olympian. She is strong enough to throw a car or hold up to a ton unsupported. Her reaction times are similarly enhanced to superhuman levels, though far from a speedster or Spider-person's skills. Her agility and coordination have improved to peak human condition, allowing her to manually operate extremely delicate machinery in a way usually only achievable by machinery or to gracefully leap from the back of a T. Rex to the ground uninjured.

Psychic Transference:
Lunella can psionically transfer her conscious mind into Devil Dinosaur and his conscious mind moves into her physical body. The transference takes ten seconds of uninterrupted concentration to complete the swap with minimal disorientation. Fear, pain or other trauma can cause her to reflexively initiate the transfer, but this experience is deeply unsettling for both parties.

Lunella maintains her intelligence, memories, and learned abilities while inhabiting Devil Dinosaur. However, any physical skills are subject to the limitations of a 20-foot-long male Tyrannosaurus Rex. Swimming, climbing or actions requiring fine motor control, like manipulating doorknobs or controls on her gadgets, are restricted to her experience and physical proportions. Opening a pop can or typing may be nearly impossible without gear scaled up to her size.

Psychic transference creates a passive bond that allows her or Devil Dinosaur to detect the overall physical wellbeing of their body and transmit limited emotional awareness. This may expand with time, but she is unpracticed in open communication. In her own body, she has a strong telepathic bond (see +pow Telepathy).

Note: Psychic transference only works with Devil Dinosaur. This power cannot and will never expand to any other target.

Telepathic Bond:
Lunella shares a persistent, limited telepathic bond with Devil Dinosaur when she has not swapped their conscious minds. This allows her to communicate verbally or mentally with Devil Dinosaur. Both understand one another despite their linguistic differences, to the limits of their intelligence. Devil Dinosaur cannot be made to comprehend a complicated architectural or engineering schematic, for example. She is restricted to communication of thoughts and general emotions.

This power does not allow her to read memories, alter any thoughts, or implant suggestions. It can be detected by telepaths or mind magic, and similarly blocked.

Skills

Computers:
Lunella has a polymath's knowledge of computers and networking. In particular, she excels in programming her own apps to suit her gadgets. Her innovations often require a modified operating system and jury-rigged programming to properly function. She utilizes existing programming languages and bleeding edge ones to develop algorithms and assets for whatever she happens to be working on. Whether kit-bashing together a beacon to track someone down to a mini-satellite that issues a text message to everyone named Joseph in the 312 area code, she has the skills and aptitude to achieve her ends. Time and resources are her main drawbacks, as she'll learn what she needs to make these happen. Lunella is terrifyingly gifted when it comes to pushing computers to their limits.

Engineering:
Some people can produce a working airplane from string, coconuts, a pack of matches, and two empty fuel cans. Lunella is one of those rare people who can macguyver a solution and take it two steps further, creating an invisibility field or radio from scraps. She can devise and construct working devices from scratch, using her own designs. These devices range from simple to quite complex, such as small drones, rocket boots, and chameleon-like camouflage "skins". Augmenting existing items is something she does with relish, amplifying the existing object's effects or using the base model as a springboard for greater options. Her background in mechanical and electrical engineering, and computing, helps her achieve great things for someone her age. Lunella is used to working with very little rather than expensive or exotic materials, but she is an eager creator who makes the most of what she has.

Linguistics:
Lunella speaks Spanish and English.

Logic:
Lunella loves riddles and puzzles! A thousand-piece Where's Waldo Puzzle down to five -dimensional games of Go satisfy her restless intelligence. She has solved logic problems set forth by Reed Richards that even he couldn't figure out, and she anonymously decrypted two math problems which stumped mathematicians for decades. She devours sudoku, gleefully works on logic puzzles, and voraciously devours the most difficult crossword puzzles she can find.

Math:
An extension of her skills in science, Lunella gets math on a frightening level. Her friends at Happy Harbour called her a human calculator. She can perform amazing mathematical feats, like crunching complex equations or calculating silly numbers on the fly. She always seems to estimate spot on when it comes to what to tip!

Paleontology:
Lunella has the equivalent of a 3rd-year academic background in paleontology without significant fieldwork. Her interest lies primarily in Cretaceous-era dinosaurs, but she is widely familiar with Triassic and Jurassic dinosaur families and other animals from the periods. She knows the main techniques used in the field to identify and preserve fossils, geological markers, and assembly of fossils. She has practical biological elements, like evolutionary patterns, taxonomic relationships, and dinosaur behaviours based on scientific records and the giant red T. Rex who is her best friend.

Riding:
Lunella has outstanding knowledge of how to ride large theropods with or without a saddle. Devil Dinosaur insists she's a most agreeable rider and barely pulls on him at all. Riding any T. rex without falling off, but she can do it at full gallop.

Roller Skating:
All the cool kids do it! Lunella loves roller skating and she can do a number of awesome flips and tricks, splashing out at the rink. If she were more aggressive, roller derby would be a possible sport she could competitively pursue. Her skill extends to a lesser extent to figure skating, which she isn't nearly as good at. Not that it matters, she pursues it just as excitably!

Sketching:
Lunella is a terrible artist. Genius doesn't extend to everything! She enjoys doodling and making little sketches for herself, no matter how imperfect they are, because she sees another place where she can strive, struggle, and overcome.

Devil Dinosaur:
Lunella's companion, Devil Dinosaur, is an 8 ton, 20-foot-long, 10-foot-high Tyrannosaurus Rex empowered with human-level intelligence. The T. rex's bright red colouration and enhanced intellect resulted from his mutation triggered by fire. He possesses the natural strength of a T. rex, able to knock over trees or crush vehicles by swatting them with his tail. He has excellent durability, able to run long distances at a jog without tiring and take several blows without slowing. His tough hide renders him resistant to bashing damage and smaller piercing weapons. Devil Dinosaur has some resistance to natural fire attacks because of his mutation. He has a very keen sense of smell, but can become overwhelmed by strong scents.

Devil Dinosaur originates from a prehistoric Earth- like planet in another dimension populated by dinosaurs and primitive humanoids in tribes. As such, he lacks experience with modern Earth, heavily populated cities, such noise or technology. He simply lacks the ability to identify many facets of everyday life from fridges to ferries, though he can learn what is dangerous or not. When Devil Dinosaur becomes overwhelmed by too many unfamiliar things, his first instinct is flight or hiding, and he can become dangerous if cornered.

Devil Dinosaur is extremely conspicuous due to his size, but capable of great stealth due to his practiced hunting skills. He takes pride in not harming "small folk," as he calls humans, and prefers to scare his enemies. Even in frenzy, he does not eat small folk. Livestock are another matter, however! He can track well by sight and especially scent, and he can detect rotting flesh from miles away.

Education:
Lunella is a student in her last year at Happy Harbour and enrolled at Empire State University. She has room, board, and a basic meal plan available to her. Academic resources include access to libraries, labs, computing facilities, gyms, and cafeterias that serve up okay food.

Family:
Lunella's family are near and dear to her. Jacob and Yara love their daughter dearly and would put themselves into significant danger to keep her safe. She worries a lot about their safety. As a hero, her main liability are her parents; if they were injured or hurt, she would be absolutely devastated. Her enemies could do a lot of harm targeting them.

Moon Boots:
Lunella retrofitted a pair of roller skates into her signature moon boots, which are fabulously sparkly, bright-red roller skates with retractable rollers and embedded springs that allow her to stand and bounce-walk up to 20 feet high in lunar gravity. This decreases to 10 feet high in terrestrial gravity. She can use these to scale over large gaps as if she were on solid stilts. Her Mark 2 upgrade involves localized magnetic fields so she can walk along metal objects or walls, as long as they have a high enough metallic content. However, this prototype is still prone to malfunctions as she hasn't fully calibrated the fields.

Weaknesses

Art:
Lunella has two left thumbs when it comes to most forms of artwork. Her only poor marks come from art classes. She has no talent for working clay, drawing models, or painting. While she grasps the tenets of art as well as everything else (super-genius is super-genius), that knowledge simply does not translate into making pleasing digital or traditional artwork. She can create gadgets, but her attempts at most art turn out either entirely like a blueprint or hilariously off in some way, like an experimental paint failing to adhere to any surface.

Broke:
Lunella is a student without a job. She relies on her scholarships to pay for classes beyond what she gets at Happy Harbour. Her parents cover most of her day-to-day expenses.

Fish Out of Water:
Lunella inherited her Inhuman genes through her father, Jacob, and much more diluted through her mother, Yara, who is Inhuman-human lineage. Jacob kept his lineage a secret while she was a child, hoping to protect her from a world that treats its outsiders coldly and cruelly. It did her few favours when she started to realize her rare and unusual abilities, ones that set her apart and made her feel different even at Happy Harbour. She doesn't know much about Inhuman history on the Moon, in Afterlife or even hidden pockets on Earth. Showing up spontaneously in Attilan barely helped her grow accustomed to a wildly different place than New York.

Frenzy:
When Devil Dinosaur's conscious mind inhabits Lunella's body, "she" behaves like a dinosaur with average human intelligence, primal instincts, and a Tyrannosaur's hunting skills. Devil Dinosaur has not been conditioned to understand New York rush hour, subways, and the general noise and chaos 9 million people generate. Therefore, Lunella appears to act very strangely, spooking at loud noises or lashing out when provoked by innocent things when Devil Dinosaur is under stress. Unfortunately, a foreign city is inherently extremely stressful. He can exert better control on the Moon, Attilan, less populated centres, and especially in tropical locations that resemble his home. It's a very steep learning curve, even for a super genius.

If Devil Dinosaur is severely stressed, there is a ten percent (90 or higher on a +roll 1d100) that he will fall into a frenzy. These frenzies are usually full flight (run away and engage no one) or fright (roar loudly and scare everyone to back up).

Inhuman:
Lunella, like all Inhumans, has unique genetics distorted by Kree tampering millennia ago. This creates multiple weaknesses:

* Kree Enmity: The Kree hate their creations, and the feeling is mutual. They're likely to attack her on sight.

* Pollution Sensitivity: Lunella is heavily affected by prolonged exposure to pollution. If she's in a badly contaminated area longer than a day, she will start to fall ill, like she has a bad flu. After a week, she will be in real danger. In a normal city like New York, it takes her a month to feel problematic effects. She needs to spend at least two days in a rural area or the Moon to purge the pollutants from her body.

Legally Blind:
Lunella is classified as legally blind due to clinical myopia. She needs a very strong specialty prescription to see anything at a distance. Without her glasses, she cannot distinguish details, read or target with any kind of accuracy. Losing her glasses places a severe limit on her vision that terrigenesis did not fix. Though surgery is a possibility, she's too worried about side-effects or the fact it might upset her parents to consider corrective procedures.

Note: This limitation does not apply when she is shifted into Devil Dinosaur.

Untrained Heroine:
Lunella doesn't have much experience being a hero, only theoretically being around them and studying their actions. Everything is new to her! This presents opportunities, like fresh eyes on a situation and a strong sense of responsibility for civilians. She prefers non-lethal solutions and offering mercy to her opponents. But it also brings downsides, like following her base reactions when frightened or truly threatened; not recognizing danger; or simply being conditioned to fight rather than flee. Time will expand on this, but she has a lot to learn. 8 tons of Tyrannosaur protects her from conventional threats, but that's not an armour she can rely on all the time.
