A large man tired of being a weapon. Mikhail is a beast of a man, a survivor, and capable of doing what he must to survive, though still having a heart for his fellow mutants and others mistreated by those in power. A strong sense of justice, and a bit of patriotism.

Timeline

Timeline:
1940: Born in Siberia, he was kept hidden from the authorities due to the anti-mutant policies of the Soviet government.
1945: Mikhail is found and instead of being euthenized like other mutants, a new use is suggested by Piotr Phobos, who takes in the young mutant as one of his charges and trained in his school until adulthood. Never fully breaking.
1958: Mikhail is conscripted against his willinto the Soviet Army and given the rank of lieutenant to facilitate his movement through the state apparatus and given the code name "Ursa Major". He is deployed alongside other of the Phobos Academy alumni on secret missions for the government. It is during his time in the army that he begins to resent being dehumanized as a government weapon and begins drinking to dull the pain.
1965: Eventually the rage of the bear, now a major, could not be contained much longer and on a mission to pursue some other mutants hidden in the Soviet Union, Mikhail turns and defies the orders of his superiors to bring them in. While the other mutants escape, Mikhail is captured and sent off to a gulag, where he is forced to fight to amuse the warden and the guards.
1967: Once news of this bloodsport reaches the government, Mikhail is pulled from the gulag and put into an even colder place, cryogenic storage for when the government was desparate enough for use him.
2017: With the fall of Superman and the return of Captain America, the Russian government thaws out the bear and give him the option of serving with the promise of eventual freedom, or death. Mikhail chose life.
2020: While on the team to investigate Genosha, Mikhail sees the devastation and begins falling back into drinking. While on diplomatic staff duty in New York City, he takes his shot, no longer having any faith of the government letting him go, defects to the United States.

Personality

Justice:
Strong sense of justice, you reap what you sow. While he certainly would not have a full on lawful alignment, he has some degree in the belief that good ought to be rewarded and evil punished. When he thinks something is the right thing to do, you better believe that he is going to stand his ground and the only way he is backing off is by force.

Patriot:
Mikhail deep down loves Russia, just not the leadership, partially a remaining bit of his indoctrination at the Phobos Academy, but also the resentment to the leadership for what they did to him and mutant kind in his youth.

Work Hard, Party Hard:
Mikhail puts forth his full effort in all things. If he is on a mission, he is all business, but at the celebrations of victory or drowning sorrows after a mission, he also does not hold back. He is a party animal.

Character Sheet

Powers

Bear Form:
Mikhail can turn into a large anthropomorphized brown bear in less than fifteen seconds. This form grants him the size (over seven feet tall and over 900 pounds), durability, speed, and strength of a large brown bear, able to lift fifteen tons. He retains his ability to speak and mental faculties in this form, though the latter deteriorates if he stays in the form too long.

Physical Capabilities:
When in his regular human form, Mikhail is about as strong as any mundane human, with a durability and endurance to match. While he is by no means a gymnast or sprinter, he has a speed that his size does not hint towards.

Skills

Military Training:
Mikhail has been trained for his entire life to be a weapon. He learned to use his body, in both of his forms, as a living threat. He is capable in fieldcraft and an exceptional marksman.

Survivor:
MIkhail had to tough out over a decade in an academy as a guinea pig and was tested on constantly. He then had to suffer through the dehumanizing treatment in the Soviet army and the gulag he was sent to. He developed mental fortitude, though helped by his self-medication. He has been through Hell and back and is capable of doing it again.

Resources

Equipment:
When he defected, Mikhail took whatever equipment he had on hand, a sidearm, his old uniform, some usbs, a takedown sniper rifle, and a handful of burner phones.

Former Contacts:
If he needs to, Mikhail can lean on the shadier people he has had to work with in the past.

Institutional Knowledge:
Mikhail may have only been thawed for a few years, he still knew secrets from working as a weapon of the government. He is not afraid to utilize this knowledge to his advantage if he has to.

Weaknesses

Alcoholism:
Mikhail has developed a drinking habit to self-medicate his torment at being a tool for the government, first the Soviet and then the Russian government. He is a functional alcoholic, but at times it clouds his judgment.

Bear Brain:
If he spends prolonged time in his bear form, usually about the six hour mark, Mikhail's intelligence will diminish, the longer he stays in it after that, the more it devolves into a more animalistic mindset.

Russian Government:
When you are a mutant agent of the government, they do not take kindly to you leaving. This is definitely the case with Ursa Major, and they want him back, maybe to kill him, maybe to break him and put him back in the field. Neither plan is palatable to Mikhail, so he is going to keep avoiding them.
