Nerissa was a student of magic and martial arts several hundred years ago, but due to a catastrophe, was sealed inside her own magic to survive. Now awakened in modern-day times, she hopes to navigate the world and make it better by fighting injustice wherever it can be found.

Timeline

Timeline:
* 1224: Born to parents Morwenna and Ulrik.
*1230: At age 6, found to have a great affinity for magic. Accepted into the Eightfold Order as an apprentice.
*1239: Completes studies and tests to become a journeyman, goes out into the world for growth and experience.
*1242: Returns home after spending time in a few Atlantean cities and coastal human towns in southeast Asia.
*1243: Attains the rank of Dreamwalker as a full-fledged member.
*1244: An unknown enemy assaults her home, the ensuing battle triggering a seaquake that results in her sect being destroyed, the temple buried under several tons of rubble.
*2023: Is found at an archaeological dig site and awakens in the modern-day world.

Backbone:
Backing down isn't an option when faced with evil and injustice. Nothing comes from running away except regret and failure. Moving forward is the only option if any situation is to improve. Whatever the situation is, Nerissa tackles it with all she has.

Brainy:
Knowledge and facts have helped shape Nerissa into the woman she is. One cannot delve into the world of magic without a strong mind, unless the goal is to fail. Nerissa plans and thinks through, the vast majority of the time, at any rate. Success is the result being careful and methodical, not when one rushes headfirst into the situation.

Curious As a Catfish::
Nerissa has always had an interest in things. What they are, what they do, how they work, who made them, their origins, and so on ad infinitum. Her desire for understanding often leads to being labeled as obsessive, strange, or just downright rude at times.

Atlantean Heritage:
As a natural-born homo mermanus, Nerissa has a number of physiological benefits.

*Amphibious Nature: Atlanteans are capable of breathing while submerged underwater, possessing a set of gills on their body.

*Superhuman Strength: Because they live in some of the deepest parts of the ocean, Atlantean bodies are capable of moving with ease even with 1086 (approximately over half a ton) pounds of pressure applied to them. They possess muscle density ten times that of a human being. The average Atlantean can lift about 4 tons.

Superhuman Durability: Atlanteans can withstand the pressure of the ocean with ease, their skin is considered nearly bullet-proof, and they are naturally resistant against heat and energy.

*Enhanced Senses: Atlanteans possess natural senses attuned for living in the ocean, granting them a natural advantage on land. All of their senses function underwater as well as a human's does on land.
-Enhanced Hearing: An Atlantean's hearing is more acute than an ordinary human.
-Enhanced Vision: Their vision allows them to see in the dark depths of the ocean.
-Enhanced Sense of Smell: Atlanteans possess a more keen sense of smell compared to ordinary humans.

*Superhuman Speed: They are capable of moving, reacting, running and swimming at superhuman speeds. Atlanteans can run and move at speeds greater than the finest human athlete. Their superior speed also extends into swimming and they can reach a top speed of about 30-35 miles per hour.

*Superhuman Agility: Atlanteans have perfect balance, bodily coordination, and/or perfect equilibrium to a point far in excess to that of a normal human being on Earth, their bodies being able to coordinate easily while under the pressure of the ocean.

*Superhuman Stamina: Atlanteans have the ability to maintain continuous physical actions for an undefined period longer than an ordinary human.

Tentacles:
Magic is a many-splendored thing, manifesting in various and wonderful forms. For Nerissa, it's the glowing octopus tentacles that extend from her back. Made of arcane energy, the eight appendages have a multitude of abilities.

-Generally: The tentacles can extend up to 100 feet away from Nerissa, but can normally only reach places she can see. Otherwise, it's just guesswork for things out of sight. However, by focusing her magic and closing her eyes, Nerissa can actually feel what her tentacles feel. Each one can easily lift and/or carry as much as Nerissa normally can, with no effort. They can be used like whips to strike foes, entangle them, trip them, et cetera. The tentacles can also combine into larger forms, multiplying their capacities across the board. Finally, while not an actual power, the tentacles change color based on Nerissa's predominant emotional state, though are normally a soft green in a neutral state.

-Mobility: She can use them for locomotion, speeding across terrain much more quickly than her feet can, and with a greater sense of balance and agility. In addition, they can aid in faster movement underwater, letting Nerissa swim three times faster than the average Atlantean.

-Defense: The tentacles can coil up together for a full-body or directional shield, capable of stopping bullets, deflecting most energy-based attacks such as from magic blasts or lasers, and can withstand heavy physical damage.

Magic:
While her natural magic manifests as tentacles, Nerissa is well-versed in ancient mystical studies. Due to her training she is familiar with a variety of older arcane practices, understanding their foundations and influences in more "modern-day" spells.

Martial Arts:
Nerissa has practiced Atlantean hand-to-hand combat for the majority of her life. A healthy body breeds a healthy mind, after all. She know how to incorporate her tentacles into close and long-range combat.

Because Nerissa is so displaced, she currently has no one to rely on, no money, and no place to stay. While most of these are temporary, they are nonetheless inconvenient.

Weaknesses

Accelerated Dehydration:
Water is the lifeblood of many species, and more so for an Atlantean. Thankfully, due to Nerissa's experiences in the world as a journeyman, her tolerance for being on land is higher than average. Though it's still a weakness, and can be a deadly one if not handled properly. Nerissa needs to be fully submerged in water for at least one hour every day, otherwise she risks dehydration. Harsh environments can accelerate the process, multiplying the necessary submerging by anywhere from 3 to 4 times per day in order to not suffer ill effects. Twelve hours without sufficient shade and moisture will either disable or kill her, depending on the severity of her surroundings.

Bottled Storm:
Nerissa has difficulty processing her emotions, and, as a result, often represses them until such a point that they explode outwards at the most inopportune times.

Magic Limits:
Nerissa's magic is tied to her tentacles' capabilities, and while she can influence magic outside of her, she cannot manifest or cast it in other ways.

Sensory Overload:
Atlanteans can be overtaxed from external stimuli. Sunlight is noted to be difficult for Atlanteans to get used to, sometimes requiring them to wear thick goggles. Hypersonics are also capable of disorienting their senses.

Tentacles:
If the tentacles take sufficient damage, they can break. While regeneration is possible with time, the pain is equivalent to losing a limb.
