Nick is a reasonably successful artist who's making a name for himself as much for creating his art with his meta ability, as for the art itself. Relaxed and easy-going, he's determined to avoid what he calls the 'Spandex chain gang' without compromising who he is.

Timeline

Timeline:
* 1988: Born in East Toledo, Ohio.
* 2003: After a more or less normal childhood, becomes aware that he's got potential superpower: the generation of and immunity to heat. As it never gets any more impressive than that, he never considers putting on the Spandex and picking a codename.
* 2004: Vacationing with his family on Lake Erie, he fuses a handful of beach sand into a raw sort of glass, and that sets him on his path. He still keeps that first awkward, gritty lump on his desk.
* 2006: Graduates high school, enters the art program at the University of Toledo, doing most of his work at the hot shop in the Toledo Museum's Glass Pavilion.
* 2010: Graduates with a BA, enters the MFA program at Bowling Green so he can continue working at the Toledo Museum.
* 2014: Graduates with an MFA; in the last year of his program, after there was no question about his ability with traditional methods of working with glass, he began working with his bare hands and producing works that are virtually impossible otherwise. Some people thought it was cheating -- and some thought it was amazing.
* 2017: Relocates to New York City to further his art career.

Personality

Detail:
While he's loathe to admit it, Nick is equal parts relieved that he's got a power that's not a whole lot of use as a superhero, and guilty that he has a power that he can't use to help others. It's not something that costs him a lot of sleep, but it is one of those troubling thoughts that can make him hesitate to turn out the light at night. He will go out of his way to attend or donate to events supporting mutant rights. He doesn't think of himself as an activist, but he feels obliged to do something.

General:
Nick is laid-back and easygoing; it takes a lot to make him mad, and he tries to avoid being mad in the first place. Fundamentally, he's passionate about two things: his art, and demonstrating that metahumans don't have to be superheroes or supervillains. The art comes out just ahead, if push comes to shove.
He can be a little spacey sometimes; if he gets an idea in the middle of a conversation, out comes the tablet to make notes... quite possibly losing track of the conversation in the process. And while he enjoys the adulation, and the art scene in general, he'd really rather be in his studio actually making things.

Powers

Thermokinesis:
Nick is a heat generator, capable of putting out a few thousand degrees at will. It is tactile only -- he can't fling bolts of heat. Melting tungsten (about 3700°K) is a bit of a strain, but he can manage that. The highest temperature he's reached is around 4000°K. He is himself immune to comparable levels of heat, and can protect things in close contact with him -- his clothes, for example.

Skills

Glass Artist:
Nick is a skilled glass artist in most disciplines of the art -- glassblowing, kiln work, lampwork, fusing -- but is best known for using his power to sculpt glass by hand, achieving forms that are virtually impossible with traditional techniques. Even when he's not working on a particular project, he usually has a couple glass marbles in hand, working them like they were taffy.

Glass Science:
Equally important is an understanding of the chemical composition of glass, the additives that produce the best colors or optimal clarity, and a good grasp on optics. So as well as being available for artistic commissions, he can also be hired for custom labware and lenses.

Resources

Not Bad At All:
Nick has definitely made a splash in the art world, and is doing quite well for himself. He's not fabulously wealthy, but he's doing better than merely comfortable, and would like to do better yet.

Weaknesses

Baby It's Cold Outside!:
Nick doesn't suffer cold weather well -- which makes New York City challenging. He bundles up even to deal with aggressively air-conditioned spaces... like, unfortunately, some of the social events he has to attend. He fatigues easily in the cold, from a combination of both concentrating on keeping his power running to stay warm, and from oversusceptibility to cold temperatures.

Clove Cigarets:
There isn't a lot of middle ground on Nick, at least in the public eye -- the art community either loves him or hates him for using his mutation to make art: either it's cheating, or it's a brilliant new technique. He's a publicly known mutant, and even if he doesn't put on a colorful costume, he's still a mutant. He's not a typical artist, and he's not a typical mutant, and being not typical is good way to divide opinion pretty sharply -- and in more than two ways.
