Profile
Nicolai is a Romanian born mutant. He's known in Romania as Moroi to the criminal element. He's the the boogie man they whisper about. Very little is known about him in the US... yet.
Timeline
Timeline:
* 2000 - Nicolai is born dead to a poor Romanian mother, father unknown. After nearly half an hour of rescuscitative efforts; time of death is called and baby Nicoloai takes his first breath. The glowing of his eyes pegs him as a mutant from birth, his first power to manifest was his Astral Perception, shortly after being born. His mother dies during childbirth and Nicolai ends up in a Romanian Orphange. It will be years before he figures out that there's more to the things that he can do than an X-Gene. A deal made with Wepwawet by his father years before his birth sealed his fate; he was claimed in service of the Opener of the Way the day he was born, altering his genetic makeup and causing his powers to manifest in ways to best serve the Egyptian God.
* 2003 - Nicolai is adopted by Cristian Codona and taken to live at Codona's castle in the Romanian countryside. Cristian is a biokinetic mutant with the ability to sense the x-gene and its potential strength in others. Nicolai was chosen based on the potential Cristian saw in him.
* 2005 - Nicolai is five years old when he has his first 'out of body' experience. This same year, his education begins. His father hires the best tutors in all areas and begins training the boy in the use of his powers.
* 2010 - At ten, Nicolai's education is broadened to include melee and hand to hand combat. His life is full and the love his father has for him is immense, but it's a lonely existence with no friends his age.
* 2018 - Cristain sets Nicolai up in an apartment in the city where he beings using his training to defend the defenseless, be the human, mutant or other, against those who would mean them harm.
* 2019 - Nicolai becomes known as The Moroi, the name taken from Romanian folklore meaning vampire or ghost, to the criminal element.
* 2020 - Andrei Aldea, a mutant serial killer Cristian helped catch in 2015 escapes custody. Two months later, Nicolai returns to the castle to find Cristian dead, his body nothing but a mummified husk, clearly the work of Aldea.
* 2021 - Nicolai follows leads he has on Aldea to the US and, eventually New York City where Aldea is killed and Nicolai decides to lay down roots.

Personality
Adrenaline Junki:
Nicolai loves a thrill, be it the thrill of a motorcycle pushing a hundred on a back country road or the thrill of the chase when he's hunting down someone deserving of his brand of justice. He often leaps before he looks in a dangerous situation.
Compassionate:
Cristian raised Nicolai to be a compassionate man, to care about those less fortunate than them and to offer his assistance willingly whenever possible. Sometimes this can get Nicolai into trouble, he tends to let his heart lead him in a situation rather than his head.
Easy Going:
Nicolai is a very easy going guy, he's laid back and fun loving and often the last one to leave the party. ...and he's almost always invited to the party.
Headstrong:
When Nicolai sets his mind to something, there's very little that will cause him to stray from his beliefs or course of action.
Hot-Headed:
While he may be easy going and difficult to rile, once someone does manage to push the right buttons, Nicolai can have an explosive temper. Typically this temper shows in regards to some social injustice and is aimed at the people committing those social injustices.
Loyal:
Nicola is fiercely loyal to those who have earned his loyalty. He will gladly lay down his own life or suffer immensely to keep those around him safe.
Natural Leader:
While he's never really been in the position to be a leader of men, Nicolai could step into the lead almost effortlessly. His compassion coupled with his decisiveness make him a man that people would follow out of respect rather than fear.
Passionate:
Nicolai loves passionately, he hates passionately, he laughs passionately, he lives passionately and he puts his all into anything he tries to accomplish.

Powers
Astral Perception:
As much a hindrance as a help, Nicolai's ability to perceive the astral plane and its inhabitants is always on. It's been on since he was basically born dead and brought back. It will always be on. As such, he's grown used to it and can, most of the time, tune it out like background noise. However if something big is lurking or there's some Serious Business happening, he can be easily distracted by it. He also has more trouble tuning it out if he's exhausted.
As an extension of this power, Nicolai is a medium, able to see and communicate with the dead that are trapped on the Astral plane.
Astral Projection:
Nicolai can easily navigate the astral plane. He's almost as at home there as he is in his own body and earth bound. He can travel any distance and to any location as long as he has some familiarity with it. This familiarity does not need to be first hand. It can be knowledge gleaned from someone else or from the internet or just about any other source.
Like everything there's a downside. Nicolai can't be outside his body for longer than half an hour at a time before negative effects begin to set in. It starts slowly with relatively harmless things such as lowered body temperature. By an hour, he's suffering from severe metabolic imbalances and severe blood glucose fluctuations. Eventually his organ systems will begin to fail and, if he can't get back within five hours, he'll be coming back to a dead body. These effects can be mitigated if someone is medically attending to his body in the time he's gone and treating the issues as they arise.
Potential power progression:
*Astral Pre and post-cognition - The ability to cast his astral form into the past or present.
*Soul Portal - The ability to take willing travelers along with him to the Astral Plane.
Astral Suggestion:
While in his Astral form, Nicolai can implant suggestions and ideas in a person's mind by whispering into their ear. For the time being these are simple, one line things such as; turn around, sit down, back up, be quiet, you had fish for dinner. He can't make someone do something to harm themselves or another unless the person was inclined to do so already.
Potential power progression:
*Possession - The ability to step into someone else's body and either override their control or temporarily eject them. (OOC: Only to be used on weak minded mooks and NPCs).
Astral Visions:
Somewhere along the way, the fates decided to play a cruel joke on Nicolai and start sending him visions of the past, present and future. The cruel joke part - whenever he receives one of these visions, he is jerked from his physical form into the Astral plane. He has no control over when these happen and no control over how long they take. He's stuck until whatever it is hes supposed to witness has run its course. If what he's meant to see takes longer than it's safe for his physical form to be vacated, he better hope he's around someone that knows what to do to keep his body in shape for him to return to it.
Nothing he sees in the future is ever carved in stone, it's only one possible outcome that can be changed. He's never shown *how* to change them and often times they're vague and disjointed. His visions of the present are usually of immediate danger, terrible things that are happening 'right now'. Many times it's too late for him to get where he needs to be to make a difference. His visions of the past do not allow him to ask questions or see beyond just bearing witness to the event.
In the moments before one of these visions, the air around him will grow cold and items may shake or rattle or levitate. This is almost like an aura preceding a seizure and might give him enough time to sit down or lay down before he falls down.
Death Sight:
Nicolai has recently starting seeing death masks over the faces of living humans destined to die with the next twenty-four hours. These masks are disturbing more so than just something such as skull might be, their rotting flesh. Gross. He has yet to learn what they mean, but once he does, it could be possible for him to change someone's fate - slim chance, but possible.
Ectoplasmic Blood Weapons:
Nicolai has learned to control ectoplasmic blood and use it to shape weapons. In his human form, he must cut himself to use this power. He's often seen wearing a small, ornate, stainless steel claw on his right thumbnail just for this purpose. In his Astral form, these weapons are an extension of Nicolai. So far, the weapon he has mastered is a thick, snake like whip with a razor's edge end. He can either use this as a whip or cause it to become rigid and straight and us it as a thin bo-staff. While not as strong as say adamantium, this weapon is stronger than most commonly found substances. It glows an eerie pale green.
Possible Power Progression - Ability to cover his body in ectoplasmic armor.
Reincarnation:
Nicolai will never truly die, he will always be reincarnated in the service of Wepwawet, but will always begin his new journey as an infant.
Soul Portal:
Nicolai has the ability to take other, willing, individuals into the astral plan with him, pulling their astral beings from their body to do so. This leaves those that go with him unaware of their physical bodies. While they won't suffer the same decline in physical condition that he does, it still leaves them open to potential attack if their bodies aren't somewhere safe.
Telekinesis:
Things shake, rattle and fly about when Nicolai around. It's more a poltergeist effect than anything else. He has very little fine control over his telekinetic powers but can, on occasion, actually aim something small in the direction of a target. Even without aiming, it's a good way to distract an opponent. This power has been known to fire itself when Nicolai is experiencing strong emotions or extreme stress.
Skills
Combat:
Melee - Nicolai likely wouldn't know how to take the safety off a gun, but he possesses master level skills with all manner of bladed weapons.
Crossbow - He may not know his way around a gun, but Nicolai is an expert with a small crossbow.
Hand to Hand - While he isn't skilled in any one particular style or method, Nicolai can more than hold his own in a hand to hand brawl, skilled equally at landing blows and avoiding them.
Nicolai's combat training began at the age of ten and hasn't really stopped, he continues to train on his own regularly.
Driving:
Being the thrill-seeker that he is, Nicolai has a fondness for fast cars and fast bikes. Learning to drive well enough to handle the horsepower became a necessity if he wanted to not die in a fiery inferno of a crash.
Linguistics:
Language was one of Cristian's passions, therefore they were something taught from a very early age. As a result, Nicolai is fluent in Romanian, English, German, French, Italian, Russian and several Mandarin dialects.
Music:
Growing up in the Romanian countryside without siblings and playmates, Nicolai needed to find ways to entertain himself. He became passionate about music from a very early age and Cristian was only too happy to indulge his son's passion. There isn't a musical instrument that he can't figure out how to play, he can master complicated pieces in record time and he has a lovely singing voice. His favored instruments are the piano and the guitar.
Parkour:
When he was chasing down the criminal element in Romania, Nicolai often used free running as a way to get around the city quickly and undetected.
Stealth:
They call him The Moroi for a reason and it's not only due to his powers. Nicolai is like a ghost, sneaking in and out of a situation before anyone ever really knows he's there. Against someone with normal senses, the element of surprise almost always goes to him.
Resources
Heir To a Fortune:
Growing up, Nicolai knew that Cristian was well off. However, it wasn't until after his father's death that he realized just how well off. Nicolai couldn't spend his fortune in a lifetime if he tried. He can live very comfortably on interest and investment gains alone. Despite his wealth, he doesn't live an incredibly lavish lifestyle. He may fly first class, but he doesn't charter a private jet.
Motorcycle:
Nicolai's pride and joy is a white and teal Suzuki Hayabusa. It's a wonder that he doesn't pay for it to fly first class too. He doesn't, but he did have it flown to the US with him.
Romanian Estate:
Nicolai's inheritance included a sprawling castle estate in the Romanian Countryside.
Weapons:
The one thing that Nicolai will spend money on in excess is bladed weapons. Any that he owns are of the finest craftsmanship, perfectly balanced and sharp enough to split a hair... and he owns a lot of them.
Weaknesses
Astral Physical Form:
His glowing eyes peg him as a mutant immediately, those can be hidden by sunglasses if need be. However, when he uses any of his powers, his physical body takes on the characteristics of his Astral form. Looking like a B-Movie ghostly ghoul isn't quite so easy to hide.
Bleeding Heart:
It may not seem like a weakness, but a bleeding heart with deep pockets is sometimes an easy target
Body Vulnerability:
When Nicolai is outside his body it's vulnerable. He is completely unaware of what's happening to his physical form.
Cold Spot:
When Nicolai is using his powers or when he's under duress or extremely emotional, the air around him will grow cold. When he's in his Astral form, he causes the stereotypical 'cold spots' rumored to be caused by the restless dead. This can be felt by people in the 'real world'.
Ectoplasmic Blood:
Nicolai bleeds ectoplasm. It keeps his heart pumping and his organs functioning just like a person's blood. It's a little hard to explain glowing green goo when he's injured, transfusions are all but impossible in the event of serious injury and blood tests when he's sick to find the cause are out of the question. In addition, he has to 'recharge' his supply by absorbing Astral energy. To do this, he needs to spend at least half an hour per day in his Astral form. If he fails to do so, he'll become weak and tired and be unable to use any of his powers.
Mutant:
While his mutation isn't as glaringly obvious as some, his unnaturally blue eyes give him away, particularly in the dark where they tend to give off an otherworldly, almost creepy glow. He can, of course, hide them behind sunglasses. He's also vulnerable to nullification tech and subject to all of the prejudices that go along with being a mutant.
The Price:
On the rare occurrence that Nicolai decides to 'defy' death and manages to save someone with a death mask, there's always a price. It's at least equal to what he's done, a death for a death; someone else dies. Often times it's worse. That person he saves from being hit by the speeding car could mean that speeding car continues on its way and causes and accident that kills ten.
