Profile
Descended from the bloodline of Jesus Christ and Mary Magdalene, Patience is the current Magdalena, a holy warrior who works with the Roman Catholic Church to search out the evils no other holy agent can fight.
Timeline
Timeline:
1998
Born November 1st, All Saints Day, to a single mother whom she never knew. Given up as an orphan to the Roman Catholic Church, she is Christened with the name Patience and placed in a Church Orphanage in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.
2016
At 18, Patience graduates from the Church school and is no longer eligible to remain at the orphanage. She is "encouraged" to join the Sisters of Charity Convent to repay her debt to the Church for years of upbringing when no one else chose to. With no money and nowhere else to go, she begins her novitiate training.
2017
Her daily regimen is changed. In addition to her regular religious studies and community service duties, Patience is given private self-defense and weapons training. Her inquiries as to why she would need such training within the Convent go unanswered or are deflected.
2018
A year into the process Patience is finally told the truth behind her training. Truth of her bloodline and that she is to become the next Magdalena. She is introduced to her handler, Kristoff, who is a loyal agent of the Council of the Inquisition. Additional, intensive, training is begun. After successes on initial assignments of lesser danger, Patience begins to inquire about more details regarding her true heritage or even who her mother might have been.
2019
Now 21 years old, Patience has arrived at the conclusion that she will get none of the answers she seeks from within the Church. She renounces her title as Magdalena and escapes from Europe to New York City where she begins to live on the streets. She makes friends with another homeless young woman named Rowan. Barely six months after turning her back on the Inquisition, Kristoff finds her and insists that she return and fulfill her destiny. While he is attempting to convince her to return, Rowan is kidnapped by members of a cult known as the Bright Hand. If only to help save Rowan, Patience agrees to resume her role once again for the Inquisition.
Taken to Malta Patience is introduced for the first time to the Spear of Longinus, also called the Spear of Destiny, a religious relic in shattered pieces. Patience learns that there truly is power in her bloodline and heritage when she cuts her finger on a large splinter from the spear. That spilled drop of blood instantly awakens the energy within the spear, fusing it once more into a single powerful weapon against evil, now bonded to her. Wielding this powerful weapon, Patience is able to pursue the Bright Hand to Prague and arrives just as they begin a ritual summoning with Rowan as the sacrifice. Despite saving Rowan, Patience must still battle the demon Chernobog as it had already crossed over. Using the Spear and drawing strength from her faith, she is able to kill the demon.
Returning to be debriefed, Patience refuses to submit to what she views as the corrupted influences within the Council of the Inquisition. She refuses to relinquish the Spear and sets off to fulfill her role as The Magdalena without the backing of The Church.
2020
Patience continues her role as The Magdalena. While she remains independent of The Church, she will occasionally accept missions from them if she feels their intentions align with her own ethics and morals. She has come to primarily hunt vampires and those who would worship or follow them.
2021
Patience arrives in New York City, drawn by rumors and a sense that evil is again growing stronger in the region.

Personality
Independent:
Having no family and few friends, Patience learned early that she could only ever truly count on herself. Now that she travels the world hunting demons, vampires or other creatures of evil, she has found that to still be true. She may make friends but it will take her time to begin to trust that they have her well-being at heart and that she might be able to depend upon them.
Just:
Patience has a sense of right and wrong, of justice, that is deeply personal. Where the Church, namely the Inquisition, would see her destroy any and every being they tell her is evil, Patience has defied their wishes several times when it was clear that their version of evil did not align with the reality she encountered. If it is not right and just, she will follow her heart.
Religious:
For many, being informed that the progenitors of their bloodline were none other than Jesus Christ and Mary Magdalene would be one of a very few things. One might be: impossible. Another might be: sacrilegious. For Patience, she has seen the truth in this revelation and, yet, she still chooses to believe in Catholicism. Perhaps it was the childhood of near brain washing into practicing Catholicism. Perhaps she just needs something bigger to believe in while she faces the worst of Hell's evils. Whatever it is, and in spite of the corrupt actions of The Inquisition that could easily have caused her to lose her faith, Patience has not. She may not work for The Church, but she still practices her religion and maintains her faith with an unwavering confidence and devotion few could rival.
Sheltered:
From birth, Patience was raised in an orphanage and then within the Sisters of Charity convent in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. She was almost never exposed to the "outside world" prior to turning 18. It was not until she turned 21 and fled the Inquisition to live on the streets in New York City that she truly experienced life outside of, and away from, The Church. She has done a lot of living in the last five years but there are still moments where she will behave naively, or as if she were unaware of just how dark and cruel the real world can be.

Powers
Knowing the Heart:
Each Magdalena has the innate ability to see into the human heart, to know if it is good or evil, and show people the error of their ways in order to give them the chance to repent of their sins.
Mending the Broken:
Each Magdalena wields the Spear of Destiny, the spear that pierced the side of Christ, as a weapon against demons and evil magic. If it is ever damaged or broken in the battle against evil, the Spear is bound to the bloodline of the Magdalena. Only a drop or two of blood is enough to reinfuse the Spear and rejoin shattered pieces into a powerful, renewed weapon.
Power of the Blood:
The bloodline tracing to Jesus Christ and Mary Magdalene has given their descendants some above average benefits. Blessings, perhaps. These include:
Healing
- Patience cannot shrug off injury and she can most certainly die. She is truly mortal. However, she seems to heal much more quickly and thoroughly than the average human, around four times as fast.
Agility
- Her athletic abilities, particularly during battles with forces of evil, are better and faster than Olympic champions. It is as if the power within her blood awakens to aid her when needed most.
Skills
Catholiciscm:
Patience has the equivalent of a Master's Degree in knowledge of Catholicism, its rites, ceremonies, beliefs and history. She is privy to knowledge and information some Popes never became aware of. It began with her Church Orphanage education, continued with her entry into the Sisters of Charity convent, learning what it meant and took to become a nun. Then on becoming The Magdalena, her education and knowledge erupted with access to the archives of the Inquisition.
Driving:
Patience has her driver's license and is able to drive up to three axled vehicles as well as motorcycles. She is no race driver but she has had enough training to understand how different vehicles handle and how to best utilize them.
Investigation:
The art of surveillance, forensic scene investigations, following leads, questioning persons of interest, and performing research and background checks in order to gather all possible information and intel available to her.
Linguistics:
Patience is fluent in English, Italian, Latin, and Spanish. She is conversant in French.
Occult and Arcane:
If it pertains to Witchcraft, Demons, Vampires, or other forms of evil (as defined by The Church), Patience has more than a passing familiarity with it. This includes historical knowledge, modern existence of such groups and, to varying degrees, how to combat and kill them. She knows how to prepare Holy Water, the proper techniques for staking and killing vampires and so on. Less than an academic degree's worth, but certainly enough first hand street education to know the right way to combat most forms of evil.
Self-Defense:
Patience has been trained in multiple forms of martial arts, street fighting and staff or spear fighting. These include Jujitsu, Krav Maga, and the unique spear fighting form developed by and for The Magdalena by the Inquisition and past bearers of the Spear. She is also proficient in the use of bladed weapons, primarily European one-handed swords but also Katana and Tonfa.
Weapons:
Patience is familiar with historic and modern firearms as part of her training with the Inquisition to become The Magdalena. If a firearm has been used by guards of the Vatican to protect the Pope and The Church, then she has been trained on it. This includes modern military handguns, assault rifles and sniper rifles.
Resources
Armor:
Patience has access to military grade armor and fabrics. Some she has acquired through the Inquisition's channels, while others she as simply appropriated from minions and monsters she has fought, then disassembled and repurposed for her uses. The Magdalena armor is extremely durable and provides protection from small caliber handguns and fire. The various hardened pieces of armor she wears will protect her from rifle caliber weapons. The cloak is made from a low visibility cloth that lets her more easily blend into shadows and minimizes her visible heat signature.
Investments:
The Magdalena is not what one might consider a "paying gig". Despite her act of rebellion in leaving the Inquisition, it is in their best interests to help her survive in order for her to in turn help them. She receives a reasonable stipend that allows her to maintain a modest one bedroom apartment in New York City. Additionally, she has acquired assets worth 5 million by reclaiming cash, jewelry or property from the those she is sent to destroy. Waste not want not.
Spear of Destiny:
The Spear of Longinus. The Spear of Lugh. The Spear of Destiny. They are all one and the same. A holy weapon made from a mundane spear that pierced the side of Christ during the Crucifixion. It was Christ's blood that first imbued power to the relic and it is the blood of The Magdalena that traces back to Christ and Mary Magdalene that continues to imbue it with Holy power. It is able to smite the darkest and most powerful of demons. As far as anyone knows.
((OOC: Due to current plots here on Heroes Assemble, Patience is not currently in possession of the Spear. She /does/ still retain a mystical connection to it, and odds are good that it will be in her possession at some future point, but she is currently making use of alternate means.))
The Glacier Stone:
Due to currently lacking the Spear of Destiny, Patience is currently making use of another powerful artifact, the Glacier Stone. This powerful artifact has great power over ice and cold, and can transform the bearer into living ice, as well as manipulate ice, cold, and snow in a variety of ways.
Unfortunately, the Stone also has a will of its own, and seeks to use its bearer as a living force of destruction. Patience knows this, and thus is reluctant to make use of the power of the stone. She knows that she still needs a weapon to continue her fight, and so right now, she is using the power of the Stone to form it into a spear of magical ice, refraining from using its greater powers. While she has access to those abilities, using them puts her in a contest of wills with the Stone, one that would turn her into a danger to everyone around her if she failed.
Vehicles:
Patience has access to vehicles of all types as needed, with some planning. Her personal vehicles are a Maserati GranTurismo Coupe and an Aprilia RS660 motorcycle she claimed from a literal Speed Demon she slew. They are both a few years old but have been kept in perfect condition and maintenance.
Weapons and Equipment:
Patience has access to modern civilian and military grade firearms, melee and support equipment. This includes obscure, custom ammunition from the Inquisition, designed to use against the forces of evil - Holy water, garlic or silver rounds, blessed wooden and silver stakes, even explosives if the situation should prove dire enough.
Weaknesses
Holy Beacon:
Patience has the bloodline of Jesus Christ and Mary Magdalene running through her veins. There is likely no more powerful or pure bloodline on the planet. As a result, she stands out to creatures that drink blood, or who are attracted to holy sources of power or purity.
Inquisition:
When Patience declared herself independent of The Church, and specifically the Inquisition, she made some powerful enemies. While they have not, yet, sought to force her to return they are not pleased with her defiance. If it were a lesser person they would have likely killed her or captured her. There is an uneasy understanding between Patience and the Inquisition, that she will still consider missions for them. But at some point there is every chance they could decide her defiance has come to an end.
Mortal:
Patience may go up against demons and vampires and all manner of unnatural and evil beings or creatures but she is still human. She will still bleed and she can still be killed. It makes her duty as The Magdalena all the more dangerous.
Slow To Trust:
Patience had few friends while growing up in the orphanage. Now that she is an adult, and knowing her lineage, it seems to her that everyone just wants to know her or get on her good side so they can make use of her demon slaying abilities and not because they want to actually know her, herself. It makes her more cynical and jaded when it comes to establishing friendships.
