Radha Thackeray is a woman on a mission, and that mission involves finding and, apparently, destroying small objects in private custody. While her reputation is pretty minimal, she does tend to stand out in the memory of casual encounters, although she is less remarkable when going to nightclubs (occasionally) and bookstores and/or coffee shops and/or thrift stores (much more frequent.)

Timeline

Timeline:
* 20 December 2000: Radha Thackeray born to Dr. John Thackeray and Jesminder Prasal in London.
* 2007: Jesminder Prasal perishes under unclear circumstances.
* 2010: After extended efforts at solo parenting, Dr. Thackeray permits his daughter to take residence with her uncle, Sunil Prasal, in the greater New York City area.
* 2011: Uncle Sunil opens 'The Marvellous World of Distinguished Companions,' an Etsy storefront selling customized dolls and toys. Unbeknownst to e- commerce, many of these toys are animated and prepared by Radha's magical abilities.
* 2011- 2018: Marvellous World clears a great deal of profit for Uncle Sunil, elevating his standard of living considerably and giving Radha a feeling of a great secret, allowing her self-confidence in the wild world of the American educational system. Several hundred animated objects are prepared and sold during this period. While the majority are novelties, some are instead configured to serve as elements in criminal activity.
* 20 June 2018: Radha recognizes a hand-crafted stuffed toy, produced and animated by her several weeks prior, in a shocking Page 5 photo of a crime scene in the Daily Bugle. Before the day is out, she confronts and physically attacks her uncle, takes the majority of the ready cash to hand, and steals his car.
* 2018-onwards: Radha fitfully attempts to locate and destroy her own creations while wandering America, primarily but not exclusively in the same place where she began.

Personality

Betrayed:
Radha Thackeray had a beautiful dream of a world wherein she worked hard on something that brought joy to all kinds of people and earned good, honest money for pure delight and wonder. It was also a great secret, and secrets are powerful and intoxicating. This sense of betrayal and the resultant psychic wounds inform Radha's behavior, leading her to try and find something to trust again while also looking for ways to protect herself.

Relentless:
Radha has the deep seated will that comes with someone who was born with one hand in the pools of magic, and she has a very difficult time letting anything go. This extends in part to her filial angst but also includes a range of other fields. When she sets her mind on a particular goal, she does not abandon it without an epochal shift in the situation, and will even then tend to develop a new goal that grudgingly addresses that refinement in a situation, rather than actually abandoning an ill-advised course of action entirely.

Soft Touch:
Radha was raised in an environment of fluffy dreams and caring little curlicues. While this was, to a certain extent, deliberate gaslighting by a flinty-eyed relative out to exploit her, it has set in. Radha does not want people to be killed; she does not even really want them to be harmed. Appeals to her sympathy may get moody and unpleasant *reactions*, but her actual behavior will reliably point towards trying to help and save people.

Powers

Animate Objects:
Radha has the power to grant animation to objects by placing them in contact with her body and giving them verbal instructions, some of which may be retained in a manner analogous to programming a computer. Typically, she affixes a small amount of bodily matter - hair or a dab of blood - to an object. The enchantment lasts until the matter is removed. Typically, she animates dolls, toys, and other flexible but durable objects, as her power does not grant the object any new traits other than animation.

Object-Based Programming:
When animating an object, Radha may give it instructions - literal instructions, which she has to articulate aloud, or at least Intend in a manner similar to saying them aloud. In essentially all cases, she can give an object a maximum of four specific instructions. This is made slightly more flexible by the instructions containing *intention*. For example, "If you see Batman in this room, pull the bell rope" will accept Radha's conception of 'Batman,' as well as 'the bell rope', and would be one instruction. "If I say 'Haruspice rescue me,' pick up a needle and stab anyone that I am touching" would constitute two.

Objective Perception:
Objects that Radha animates can usually act within the abilities of whatever features they seem to have - this makes humanish toys and dolls very flexible, as they have hands and so on. Objects with eyes, even simple dots, can (in a manner of speaking) see -- and they can also see in the dark, although the limits of their vision is usually 'twenty yards or so,' barring an object specifically made with high powered optical equipment or a representation of great visual acuity. Ears are also necessary for hearing anything not specifically prepared. One exception is the mouth: even otherwise immobile and solid objects can be made to speak in a regular conversational tone of voice.

The Power of Unlatching:
Radha's animation ability has an interesting and fun side effect: She can make physical locks and latches open by touching them and instructing them to do so. While this is a great tool for navigating the urban environment, it is immediately defeated by electronic locks, very complex locks (for instance, in large safes), or single-dial combination locks.

Skills

Detail Work:
Radha is a competent and skilled amateur craftswoman when it comes to the small scale detail -oriented work that is involved in creating, crafting and customizing small toys and dolls. This includes fabric-working, repair, detailed painting, and so on. She doesn't LIKE why she's good at this, but she is!

Languages:
Radha's native language is English, but she is conversational in Hindi and Spanish as well.

Toy Trivia:
Radha is a subject matter expert in the forms, types, and manufacturing methods of all kinds of toys, although she is often indifferent to the fine details of the associated fiction, particularly when it involves like, war robots doing horrible things to each other and eating planets.

Yeah I Read Crowley:
Radha has an introductory level understanding of the Western occult tradition, mostly from independent reading. This is mostly going to give her the vocabulary and grammar to understand other bizarre stuff.

Resources

Takeout-and-Car Hobo:
Radha has a personal vehicle (not the one she initially stole) and tends to keep a non-trivial amount of liquid cash on hand -- enough to pay for a motel room for a week, or make an emergency payment, or to attend a convention to find a particular object and destroy it.

Weaknesses

Animation Breaking:
Radha's charm on animated objects will end the moment that the material which is in contact with the object is removed. When she is directly touching an object, this is of course easy - she stops touching it. With other items, it is usually either a spot of blood or a strand or three of hair, often scotch-taped on. Blood is good until the spot of blood flakes off or is washed off (or removed); hair just requires the hair to be removed.

Limits of Animation:
There are some meaningful limitations on Radha's ability to animate and instruct objects. Among them:

* Animated objects do not gain new properties, including durability. So a plastic or cloth doll would be able to endure some running around or abuse, but would not last forever.
* Animated objects can move, if they have the flexibility, but do not necessarily gain new mobility. This limits most objects to walking and climbing, although some objects can glide or fly.
* Animated objects are not particularly strong - strength is usually comparable to an animal of similar size. This can allow for manipulation of objects, breaking of small things, or the use of sharp weapons, etc.
* Radha has to instruct each individual object on an individual basis. (This may eventually improve with magical training, but has not done so yet.) While she can issue new instructions to animated objects in her immediate area, she has to actually tell them - it is not telepathic control.
* Animation does not do anything directly to electronic control systems, although it does work well with motor components. For example, Radha could animate a toy drone, and it would be able to fly using its propellers until the battery ran out... but she would have to turn the motors on in the first place.
* Radha typically animates smaller objects, which can be done with hair and tape or with a small drop of blood. She can animate somewhat larger objects, such as mannequins or suits of armor; however, this requires her to injure herself enough to where it starts to matter (and requires access to mannequins or suits of armor, of course.) This is about the best that she can manage, although she MIGHT be able to do something bigger by giving herself a genuinely grievous injury, or using blood thoughtfully made external to her body by some other force.

On a Mission:
Radha is dedicated to the somewhat forlorn hope of tracking down all of the dolls that she put together when she was in middle and high school and left animated with instructions, as she is desperately afraid that they are being used as some sort of murder weapon. This is, to some extent, a personal mission but it will also drive unusual behaviors, such as inspecting or yelling at dolls and toys she thinks she might recognize. (Unfortunately, her uncle has the receipts, and she has no access to them. Otherwise, this would be WAY easier.)

Petty Crimes:
Radha has periodically financed her quixotic quest to find and disable a series of small toys throughout North America by opening an ATM. While this has been arbitrary enough that there is not a strong chain of evidence, it is certainly something resembling a crime, and this cavalier attitude towards property lingers.
