Reed Richards is a world-renowned scientist, inventor, and adventurer. Known just as widely as 'Mister Fantastic' as by his real name, Richards regularly saves the world as part of the Fantastic Four. He's generally considered either an absent-minded professor type, a leader, or a self-absorbed genius.

Personality

Absent-Minded:
Most of the time, Reed's pretty caught up in his experiments and innovations - so caught up, in fact, that he often forgets various details about life that other people might consider important (or at least not totally trivial). So, despite being the world's greatest genius, Reed somehow manages to overlook information that could make everyone's life easier, like remembering to eat.

Adventurous:
Going hand-in-hand with his love for science and discovery, Reed fully endorses (at least for himself) a life as an adventurer, exploring the possibilities of life and scientific enlightenment as actively as possible. Reed's life as a scientist is intertwined with his desire to help the world; he can hardly separate one from the other these days. While Reed might not want everyone out on crazy adventurers in parallel dimensions or trying to recreate controlled black holes, he sure can't resist the temptation of it.

Arrogant:
Reed is a natural leader, or at least he likes to think he is. In a given situation, Reed wants to be large and in charge, and is more than ready to take that initiative. Someone else wants to run the show and lead the way to save the day? Reed might get just a bit irked at that (at the very least). He's not willing to let someone else head up a situation, Reed considers others' reasoning to be almost always potentially inferior to his own.

Assertive:
Reed is used to getting things done, especially when he has to get the ball rolling just to get them done. He's not fond of waiting around for someone else's initiative; in fact, Reed often tries actively to keep himself out of such circumstances, so that he can rely on himself and his own way of doing things. This doesn't help his social skills, though, since as a result he usually dismisses the opinions or strategies of others in favor of his own approach.

Compassion:
When Reed faced the council of Reeds he found that his Father's presence in his life and the compassion instilled in him by this man set him apart from the other's. This compassion is on display when he interacts with other scientists. He recognizes and values their expertise and the different understanding they bring to any endeavor. It is also on display with his family, interacting with his children, the FF and other heroes.

Elder Statesmen:
Reed is the leader of the first hero team of the modern age. His team was the beginning of the current age of heroes. He sees himself as the elder statesmen of heroes. Like everyone's cool uncle, with the fun toys and the great clubhouse, whose wife's make the best lemon bars.

Philanthropic:
While Reed is dedicated entirely to the pursuit of scientific exploration and understanding, he feels it is necessary to help create a better environment for the world at large; Reed thinks this goes hand in hand with his desires to expand understanding of science. His actions are then to aid society, and Reed also donates significant sums of money to various charity organizations. As he is independently wealthy, Reed donates corporate FF endorsements (and the finances made from government contracts) to charity as well.

Scientific:
Science is the name of the game for Reed. He is totally devoted to constantly searching for knowledge and the enlightenment of academic experimentation and discovery. To him, the unknown is just a foggy window that a scientist can wipe to see the understanding and reason that lies beyond the obstacle.

Powers

Elastic Consciousness:
Mind Control is rarely effective on him and when it does work, it wears off sooner than it would on a normal person. HIs mind is difficult to read. He has the ability to elongate his synapses effectively increasing his intelligence temporarily.

Elasticity:
After his trip through the Negative Zone, Reed discovered that he had gained the power of extreme elasticity and malleability. He has complete control over his body mass, able to stretch, twist, compress, expand, or manipulate his body (both in specific parts or as a whole) into any contiguous shapes that he wants. The more extended Reed's body is and the greater overall distance he stretches has an effect on his strength, lessening his might with his expansion.
Stretching:Reed can extend the major appendages of his body (arms, legs, torso, and neck) to a length of approximately 1500 feet from one end to the other, and can extend his fingers, nose, ears, and toes to 20 feet each.
Expansion: Reed can expand his body linearly, turning himself into a giant sheet (or parachute, or canopy, etc. depending on the situation) whose thickness depends on how greatly he has expanded his form. At his thinnest, Reed is the width of a piece of looseleaf paper (less than 4/10 of an inch).
Solidification: Reed's body can assume the form of any solid object that Reed can envision himself - cubes, prisms, spheres, and complex structures. He can also use his skin like rubber, for example, he is able to bounce around if shaped as a ball and in motion. The volume of his solid body can be no greater than roughly 1.8 cubic feet. Reed can also cause his body to narrow so much that it can pass through the eye of a .5 x .6 needle.

Resistance:
Reed's elastic skin also provides him with a degree of invulnerability to harm. Reed's skin is reflexively impervious to punctures, lacerations, and other such injury. He can, however actively relax his skin to allow needles, scalpels, etc. to penetrate his skin. Reed's powers also allow him to reflexively absorb and repel any man-made projectile/ballistic by deforming his body along the path of trajectory at the initial point of impact. Reed can then flex like rubber (if he is properly braced/steadied) to force the object back along its trajectory in reverse. Reed can also enclose or wrap his body around objects and explosives, able to contain and absorb the explosive force of approximately 50 lbs. of TNT and the kinetic force of 20 tons, though his body is greatly exhausted from such efforts.

Skills

Athletics:
Hardly the physically exertive type, Reed maintains a moderate athletic workout routine for someone his age. He does calisthenics, jogs regularly, and can lift 150 lb weights. He's in good health and has a pretty good stamina and a decent physique, but he is no rival of professional athletes.

Deductive Reasoning:
While not the "world's greatest detective" by any means, Reed is a world class investigator. HIs deductive reasoning abilities make him an excellent cryptographer and linguist. He is a value add to an investigation in any field of endeavor.

Engineer:
Reed is one of the foremost experts in electronics, computer technology, engineering, materials science and robotics on the planet. He's a mechanical wiz, and spends hours every day tinkering with ways to both improve his understanding of cutting-edge technology as well as expanding the limits of said technology. It's one of his favorite pasttimes, and Reed has authored a number of technical manuals, developed software for various professional and educational fields, and speaks regularly at computer and electronic conferences. In a nutshell, Reed digs the modern technological explosion and gets involved in it as much as he can, trying to push its possibilities to the limits.

Humor:
Reed has a remarkably dry wit. He maintains the ability to somehow remain a straight man throughout whatever humor (or lack thereof) might surround him. Thus, Reed maintains the facade of not getting it, so he cannot be derided for making terrible puns; he can, however, be derided for not catching a joke.

Investor:
Reed has parlayed his father's inheritance into a great deal of money through his numerous patents and inventions. He's made even more money by investing much of his funds in the stock market and various business ventures, which have turned out rather well for him so far. Reed has a knack for maintaining his money, though his interests (and efforts) aren't in conquering the market, so while he prospers, Reed isn't making exponential killings off of his invested income.

Judo:
Mister Fantastic has a black belt in Judo. As one of the few masters of Judo, he is the master of Atemi-Waza (body-striking techniques), uke waza (defending blocks & parries), throws (nage waza) and holds (katame waza).

Leader:
Reed's a natural leader (growing out of either his assertiveness or his arrogance), and overall he's not a bad one. Not to say that every decision Reed makes is the best, but he seems to have the hang of it - especially when he's on the line and no one else factors into it. Reed can't always deal with others' input or the concept of individualistic approaches to teamwork, but his success rate is generally much higher than that of failure.

Pilot:
One of Reed's more adventurous pasttimes (in strictly non-superhuman terms) is flying planes. Reed is a certified amateur pilot, and has taught himself also how to fly jets and spacecraft, possessing knowledge of such vehicles to the extent that Reed is an expert in all but official admission. In addition, Reed developed a special flight system for his own innovations in aircraft, most notably the vessel which the Fantastic Four used to travel through the Negative Zone.

Psychohistory:
Reed was so Intrigued by the fictional discipline of Psychohistory found in the Foundation series of novels by Isaac Asimov, that he decided to invent it. A discipline combining history, sociology, and mathematical statistics to make general predictions about the future behavior of very large groups of people.

Relevant Intelligence:
Not only has Reed proven himself to be a genius in virtually every area of science & mathematics native to Earth, he has shown himself to be more knowledgeable than even some of the most highly advanced alien civilizations in the known universe as well.

Scholar:
Reed Richards holds multiple doctorates, gathered from the fields of chemistry, physics (nuclear and astro), computer science, robotics, and mechanical engineering. In addition, Reed is held to be a valued and respected expert in every field, often consulted by his colleagues for his research and discoveries. He even holds a Nobel Prize from discovering the existence of the alternate dimension known as the 'Negative Zone'. From time to time, Reed will publish a new paper on one of his many fields of expertise, and is continuing to expand his academic understanding - he is working on PhD research for neurology and chemical engineering right now, during his spare time.

Technician:
Not only an idea wiz, Reed is a skilled craftsman and mechanic, constructing all of his inventions, as well as most pieces of equipment that he uses for his experiments. When Reed happens to use an item that he has not constructed himself (which is very rare), he more often than not performs extensive 'improvements' on it to aid his purposes. Generally, Reed's improvements end up requiring more improvements and maintenance, which he is only ecstatic to provide for his creations.

Resources

Assorted Equipment:
Reed and the Fantastic Four have access to a seemingly-inexhaustible supply of equipment, thanks to Reed's wealth and almost maniacal devotion to invention and construction. It would be impossible to list all of the equipment available to the FF; instead, it should be said that it can be built by man, there is a great chance that Reed can make it if he hasn't already done so.

Celebrity:
Reed is a public figure, and recognizable to most of the world's population. Almost anywhere he goes, Reed can expect others to know who he is, though not everyone may be necessarily excited about seeing him nearby.

Charity:
The Fantastic Four provide numerous charitable organizations with money garnered from endorsements and contracts. Royalties from FF merchandise and goods help fund several dozen educational organizations (including scholarships in the names of each of the FF). Government contracts for technological developments made by Reed help finance peaceful organizations that feed and clothe the needy around the world.

Colleagues:
As Reed is a recognized individual in half a dozen scientific spheres, he has a rather extensive pool of colleagues to call upon in case of various dilemmas. Of course, Reed's colleagues can only aid him in the expert fields which they possess, and most interact with him on a purely professional basis, and a few are even a bit scared of him due to the weirdness and danger that seem to surround the Fantastic Four.

Costume:
Reed Richards has discovered a group of subatomic particles that display patterns of behavior not attributed to any other particles. Reed termed these "unstable molecules" and developed a number of potential uses for the particles. His most famous application of unstable molecules is the fabric of the costumes which Reed and the rest of the Fantastic Four use; the molecules' erratic and unstable nature allows the outfits to adapt to various situations. Reed's costume expands and contracts with the utilization of his own powers. In addition, the outfit rarely tears or rips - the molecules distend, separate, or reconnect if any outside party agitates or disturbs the unstable molecule fabric.

Four Freedoms Plaza:
Reed owns a 100-story high-rise at 42nd St. and Madison Ave. known as Four Freedoms Plaza. The first fifty floors serve as residences for the tenants of the Baxter Building (which preceded FFP on this lot), who often complain about the environment of having the Fantastic Four's headquarters in the building (explosions and such are a common occurence). The top fifty floors serve the Fantastic Four with: laboratories (chemical, electronics, biological, computer/photography), living quarters and recreation areas, a gymnasium, conference/information mainframe rooms, a rooftop observatory and helipad, and hangars below the roof for each of the aircraft. In addition, there is a portal to the Negative Zone on the 80th floor, which is kept under the tightest security Reed could design, even more than the building's general security (see below). The entire building is protected by a one-of-a-kind security system developed and implemented by Reed himself. All newcomers to the building are put through a briefing program and each person's physiology is analyzed; super-powered beings that enter the building are notified that they are prohibited from using their powers while inside the building, and also that the Fantastic Four's knowledge of their powers will remain top-secret.

Herbie:
The loyal robot supercomputer of the Fantastic Four is known as HERBIE, which stands for Humanoid Experimental Robot B-type: Integrated Electronics. HERBIE is a 1-meter tall robot capable of calculating and processing massive amounts of information, created to assist the Fantastic Four and Reed in their numerous endeavors. HERBIE's memory banks are very expansive, and HERBIE can hold up to 600 petabytes of information. Reed designed HERBIE's personality to be very helpful, friendly, and light-hearted. HERBIE moves about by levitating, possessing an anti-gravity generator in his lower torso (having no robotic legs). He also has a number of arm-like appendages that allow HERBIE to undertake up to a dozen tasks at once.

Transportation:
The Fantastic Four have at their disposal several vehicles (designed and maintained by Reed) to get where they need to go, including (among others) the four-part modular Fantasticar, sky cycles, spacecraft, interdimensional vessels, and a rocket-powered pogo plane. While each has its own strengths, they all provide Reed and the rest of the Fantastic Four high-speed transportation wherever they need to go.

Wealth:
Since childhood, Reed's made millions of dollars with his countless inventions, patents, and developments in the fields of science and technology. He used a good portion of his adolescent finances to invest in the stock market and several business ventures; since then, Reed has exponentially increased his wealth. Currently, Reed has over 15 billion dollars in his own name, which he uses to fund the operations of the Fantastic Four.

Weaknesses

Doom!:
Reed has enemies. DOOM!!!!!!!

Hubris:
Reed's got a bit of a superiority complex. He thinks he's the smartest and best guy around, and his life as a prodigy and innovator hasn't really tempered that self-perspective. As a result, Reed feels he always needs to be in control and in charge of any situation; he can't handle being subordinate to another's leadership, command, or initiative. In fact, Reed will often actively oppose following the lead of another in order to complete his own strategies or initiatives, which he feels are more successful thanks to his greater brainpower and intelligence. This sort of behavior doesn't exactly win him points with anyone else, and even his closest friends seem to merely tolerate Reed's self-importance rather than always adhering or following that leadership.

Magic:
Despite Reed's advanced level of knowledge and understanding he has something of a block when it comes to magic. He just doesn't get it, even the most simple incantation is beyond him.

Not Woke:
Reed is a middle aged white man, who's intellect gives him further elite status. While he is progressive in his ideology, he is also a product of his environment and his upbringing.

Overconfidence:
Reed's a terribly overconfident fellow; some might call him downright cocky. He's a smart guy and an eager adventurer, and Reed relies on his experience and intelligence to get him (and the rest of his team) through any problems that might arise. However, even the smartest man on earth can be wrong, or at least miscalculate (or even forget something!), and it's bound to happen from time to time. Reed's overconfidence in himself always runs the risk of bringing him failure, but he's not always willing to admit it.

Public Identity:
Reed Richards has made his life as a super-hero public, by making knowledge of his powers and origin (and most of his actions taken before and since) available to the world at large. This makes him relatively easy to access, and any enemies that want to come calling know exactly where to go. In addition, a public life removes a good deal of privacy from a person's schedule, and Reed & co. have had to sacrifice that privacy for their work as adventurers and super-heroes. It can get irritating, and it often does - and when four people all possess the same problem and have to deal with it together, the result can sometimes be messy.

Sue:
His wife, best friend, mother of his children. She is the song of his life, the heart of the team. She makes him better, teaches him. This is all for her, and without it would not be worth it.

Weirdness Magnet:
Whether due to his extensive scientific exploration or out of pure luck (though almost assuredly the former), Reed seems to attract a lot of weird stuff into his life. Inexplicable phenomena that defy scientific law, alternate dimensions, and other curious oddities - not the least of which are fantastic super-powers! - abound in Reed's daily activities. He just can't escape having an extraordinary life. On the other hand, that lack of escape makes it impossibly hard for him to live a normal life, alone with his experiments and innovations, as he is constantly interrupted by the numerous distractions of adventure that call him away from his work.

Workaholic:
Never one to relax or even take snack breaks that might keep him sane and healthy, Reed's so dedicated to his experiments and projects that he throws himself to his tasks so devoutly that only a crowbar (and the active intervention of others) could separate the man from his work. This piety to work more often than nought has detrimental effects on Reed's life, from isolation and separation from others to malnourishment and insomnia.
