The first daughter of Major Tom Powers, an astronaut who survived exposure to ionic radiation during a mission, Solar quickly proved to be too hot to handle as a child - literally. She spent her youth and childhood in Cape Canaveral under the watchful eye of NASA, but was eventually able to integrate into the public education system and achieve something passing for a normal life. Now, though, armed with a Physics degree and standing at the crossroads that most young adults face, she's begun to feel that she can't just ignore her powers forever - especially if the world is in danger...

Personality

Big Sister Mindset:
Solar and her little sister Stellar were inseparable in their younger years, and she took to the role of the big sister naturally - offering protection, mentorship, empathy and support, while trying subconsciously to be a good role model. In more recent times, she's found herself projecting that mindset onto other young people, giving her a drive for youth support work and teaching, as such activities give her a sense of fulfilment missed since her actual little sister became more independent. For the most part, it's a boon - though sometimes, it can lead to her taking on too much, or trying to act as an authority in situations where it's not welcome.

Burning Bright:
Solar's metahuman metabolism gives her the energy to keep going for stretches that most people would require copious quantities of caffeine to achieve. This can sometimes get away from her, causing her to obsessively pursue activities or projects, forget appointments because she's accidentally lost track of time at the gym, or go overboard in social situations, amongst other pitfalls. It can be both a boon and a bane to herself and others.

Cheeky Side:
While it might not come across in obvious ways on the surface, Solar has a cheeky and sometimes flirtatious sense of humour - one that comes out even more when she's in her disguised persona, given the liberated feeling that being able to hide in plain sight and unleash her power induces - and while she wouldn't want to admit it outside of her alter-ego, she likes to show off.

Sunny Disposition:
There's a superstition that giving child a name that implies a certain disposition is destined to be ironic - name her Charity and she'll be tight with money, name her Grace and she'll be vindictive, name her Chastity and - well, you get the picture.

Not so with Solar.

In spite of her astronomy-loving father's best efforts, she's become exactly what she says on the label - a natural smiler and eternal optimist, always looking sincerely to brighten the day of those around her. In her mind, kindness and compassion are just a way to exercise the most important muscle - the heart. The fact that she has so much energy to work with helps her keep up her bright outlook regardless of the challenges she faces.

Being out of the sun for too long can start to drain her, though - which can start to turn her sunny attitude into an effort to keep up rather than something that comes naturally.

Powers

Durability:
While naturally tougher than the average human thanks to her metahuman anatomy, Solar isn't exactly bulletproof. Her metabolism does allow her to keep going through what would normally be debilitating pain or injuries, and with exposure to sunlight, she can naturally recover significantly faster than ordinary humans.

Elevated Immune System:
Solar is essentially constantly in a state of high fever, without the deleterious effects. The upside is that she tends to burn off invading impurities such as bacteria or poisons (including alcohol) before they can take a toll on her.

Endurance:
Due to her hybrid photosynthetic metabolism, Solar is possessed of deep reserves of energy, allowing her to engage in physical activity and even go without sleep for long periods without flagging.

Flight:
Solar can fly at speeds of up to 300 miles per hour, though this requires generating a large amount of heat in the process.

Heat Immunity:
Solar is effectively immune to extremes of heat - fortunately, given the amount of heat that she herself generates.

Solar Radiation:
Solar can emit stored solar radiation from her person, creating an aura of heat and light extending up to approximately a foot around her body or one of her extremities. The light produced can range from a gentle glow to blinding intensity, while the heat can range from enough to stave off a chill to setting the air around her ablaze. This can make her difficult to target for some opponents and dangerous in close quarters. While she has some control over the proportion of light to heat, she can't generate extremes of one without producing a substantial amount of the other.

Sunlight Absorption:
Solar's powers are fuelled by sunlight, which she's able to absorb extremely efficiently and without the negative side-effects that ordinary humans might experience. In theory, getting closer to the sun might allow her to absorb even more energy, but the theory hasn't been put to the test.

Super Strength:
With effort, Solar can lift up to ten tons comfortably, thanks to her metahuman metabolism, with the ability to generate the expected proportional force for other applications of strength. With effort, she could double this, but outside of direct sunlight, pushing herself this way can drain her normally superhuman endurance rapidly.

Skills

Athletics:
Solar spends a fair amount of time in a variety of athletic training pursuits, including running, gymnastics, climbing, weightlifting, and sports (albeit with a certain degree of sandbagging to maintain a low profile). Combined with her metabolic powers, she's superhumanly athletic.

Combat:
Solar has training in boxing and wrestling, though the former is primarily fitboxing and the latter was from amateur competition in high school that she eventually abandoned.

Mentorship:
Solar has experience working in youth mentorship and developing the necessary skills and mindset.

Physics:
Solar has a Bachelor's degree in Physics, with a particular passion for all things related to space, taking after her astronaut father.

Teaching:
Solar has training as a teacher.

Costume:
Solar has an outfit from her time working with NASA that's designed to withstand the high temperatures that her body generates. She's tentatively adapted it to suit her purposes in using her powers to fight crime - turning the jumpsuit to a leotard in the process in order to be able to absorb more sunlight.

Nasa Contacts:
With her father's history as an astronaut and her own childhood and teenage years spent being studied by NASA, Solar has a number of contacts in the organisation. While she doesn't have authority with the group, she can at least expect to be heard out if she approaches them, and potentially pull some favours.

Teacher's License:
Solar has a license to teach in the state of Delaware.

Weaknesses

Big Sister Complex:
Solar has a tendency to get attached to the youths she mentors, and has even had to protect them in ways normally not expected of someone in her role. She has a tendency to get excessively wrapped up in the problems of her charges, to the point of risking her mental state - and endangering them is a trigger point (see Getting Heated).

Burning Down the House:
Solar's heat generation may have significant stopping power, but unleashing it puts her at risk of causing more damage to the immediate area than she was originally trying to avert. Since she's strictly against causing unnecessary harm or property damage, she's reluctant to use her fire-generating abilities freely.

Getting Heated:
When Solar's emotions flare up, so does her body temperature, and while she spent much of her youth learning to regulate that effect, emotional extremes still have the potential to cause her to lose control and release devastating heat waves and blinding light on her surrounding environment. Fortunately, she doesn't get angry or upset easily - but she does have limits, and if they're surpassed, the consequences could be severe.

Solar-Powered:
Solar's abilities are fueled by solar radiation, and being withdrawn from sunlight for extended periods can cause them to weaken, and even give her a sense of physical illness in extreme cases. She tends to feel slightly weaker at night, though she can still use her powers at roughly 80 percent capacity (in terms of super-strength, heat generation, and flight speed).

Stealth:
If there's one thing Solar is absolutely terrible at, it's being stealthy. First off, being a five-foot-eleven blonde doesn't do any favours when it comes to blending in with a crowd (unless it's a crowd of five-foot-eleven blondes). She shows up like a fireball on infrared, and the use of any of her powers is likely to set off fire sprinklers or give off enough light to be easily spotted. She's incapable of flying without giving off a glow bright enough to be mistaken for a shooting star at night, and she's just not the kind of person to skulk anywhere, ever.

Stellar:
They're not as close as they once were, geographically or personally, but as her sister, Stellar is precious to Solar - and a potential weak point to exploit for a savvy and unscrupulous enemy.

Too Hot:
Even when Solar is at rest, she's very warm to the touch. Excited, she becomes uncomfortably hot to be close to. And when she's unleashing her powers, things are bound to start catching fire. Awareness of this situation has led Solar to be very careful about physical contact when her levels are elevated - and has caused her to swear off intense physical intimacy for fear of inducing combustion in a potential partner.
