Yelena Belova is the second Black Widow after the Red Room was made to believe the first one was killed. A product of the Black Widow Ops program, she is a living weapon unswayed by morals, emotions or attachments, though she can feign them as needed for her assignments. But what happens when she learns hre predecessor is still alive?

Timeline

Timeline:
* 2000: Yelena Belova is born to unknown parents. Whether through voluntary or desparate act...or even foul play, she winds up in the hands of the Red Room.

* 2001 - 2004: Yelena is immersed in all that will serve her as a Black Widow Ops cadet, a starkly different form of the earliest education most experience. On her 4th birthday, is when the real lessons started.

* 2006: Yelena shows the Red Room instructors just what they want to see, when she kills a fellow cadet on command without hesitation after besting her in a fighting exercise.

Later that year, Yelena is marked for strong potential for successful graduation, and is assigned an exclusive mentor / trainer / handler in Lt. Col. Pyotr Starkovsky. Having had no familial connection in her life, it's not long before Yelena starts to see a father figure in Starkovsky, growing quite attached, which only serves well for the purposes of her rapid, unrelenting training. This professional relationship will last a decade, and doom future Colonel Starkovsky.

* 2008: Yelena advances enough to make the cut for a notable rite of passage in the Red Room Academy, she earns Dr. Lyudmila Kurdin's variant of the Super Soldier Serum. At this point, it's a given she'll become a Red Room operative, what remains to be seen is if she'll make the cut as a Black Widow.

* 2009: Infused with ordeals that instill in her an amoral disposition, utter obedience to her Red Room staff, coupled with a strong patriotic passion for Russia, Yelena grows to idolize the Red Room's greatest success, Natalia Romanova. On a few happy occasions, Yelena's class earns a special training session lead by their hero, Romanova. Yelena is awe-struck, and decides there and then she will be the one to become the next Black Widow from her class.

* 2010: Driven by her meeting with her revered hero, Yelena decides that Natalia may well be the greatest Russian that ever lived, and becomes obsessed with matching if not besting Natalia's performance records. Whenever she's congratulated for scoring the top of her class, she remains bitter that she didn't quite score as high as Natalia did.

Timeline2:
* 2011 - 2015: Yelena is cleared to start active field work, mainly within Russian borders. Some of her Ops are real, some are fake exercises meant to test her. To her, they are all real. She rates top of her class, but picking on her obsession with Natalia, her instructors continually hammer down how she's disappointingly not as good as Natalia, and maybe they shouldn't bother, as she'll never become a Black Widow. Even when she matches Romanova, she's told she scored lower. This achieves the desired result, driving Yelena on a reckless path of dedication, pushing herself to the limit and beyond. It makes her more lethal, relentless, and steadfast in her approach to every assignment. The Red Room is pleased.

* 2016: An immeasureable disaster shakes the Red Room to the core. Their prized Black Widow, Romanova, dies in an incident involving SHIELD Agent Hawkeye. Yelena begs to be allowed to go after Hawkeye, but is denied. Her burning desire for revenge, however, doesn't go unnoticed.

A Red Room without an active Black Widow, isn't as effective, and the decision is made to fast-track Yelena's class, with each of the cadets being given a harrowing 'graduation' assignment.

Yelena Belova passes her 'graduation' with flying colors and is named the new Black Widow, it is also the first time she actually outscores Romanova in anything. But with Romanova's death, Belova is only filled with desire with revenge. Her harrowing graduation leaves Belova all alone, as te ordeal costs the life of her father figure, Colonel Starkovsky, along with the lives of several detectives and GRU personnel.

With nobody to relate to at all, Yelena becomes a cold vicious weapon that stops at nothing. She hasn't a care in the world for who she kills and why, she wants to excel, she wants the Red Room proud, she wants Russia proud and she wants the killers of Romanova to suffer.

Timeline3:
* 2017 - 2019: Officially the new Black Widow, Yelena Belova takes part in international operations, visiting different countries, disguising herself as different individuals. Infilitrating places none can, stealing documents thought save, and assassinating the untouchables. Allowing the Red Room to fool other intelligence agencies into believing rumors of Romanova's demise were false, save of course to SHIELD, who knew exactly what happened.

* 2020: Out of the blue, Belova is asked to meet a very special asset at the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow, and ensure a safe return to the Red Room. The Bolshoi was a very sensitive location, suggesting the asset in question was already familiar with the Red Room. The fact they tasked the Black Widow with a rendezvous assignment, also suggested it may not be an everyday asset. This could have been anything from another test, to the most difficult task Belova has yet to undertake...

Personality

Clinical:
Her work ethic is admirable by any measure, and her decisions largely dispassionate. The important thing however is that she has a high expectation of her own performance, and as such she has a certain degree of clinical precision she tends to bring to whatever task she's set for herself. It's often more important that a task is done perfectly, rather than merely "out of the way". Whilst this is excellent stuff for a killer, it means she can be overly methodical and slow to react to developing situations.

Jealous:
Something the Red Room inadvertantly created in Yelena through her handling as a child, is a strong sense of jealousy in Romanova's achievement. All her life Yelena was measured against Romanova's success, and there's nothing she wants more than to one day be a shining example of a similar caliber to future generations of Black Widow Ops cadets. But on a similar level, everytime Romanova is held over the young cadets as someone to aspire to, Yelena wishes it was her and feels slightly, perhaps allowing room for claws to be dug by calculating operatives.

Manipulative:
It's not necessarily an inherent personality trait, as it is a taught element of her schooling in the Red Room. She's capable of misrepresenting truth or outright lying, given whatever information is best align with attaining her goal on a given operation. Black Widows are notoriously untrustworthy, and at the same time, experts at gaining one's trust.

Obsessed:
While she may not necessarily admit it to anyone, Yelena is obsessed with all things Natalia Romanova. In her own little quarters in the Red Room she has a small collection of memorabilia and has in the past gotten into fights with those who badmouthed Romanova after she was thought dead.

Psychopath:
There are many things the Red Room does for it's cadets, but one of the chief one is to detach them from humanizing traits, to be more effective decision makers in wetwork ops. As a result, Yelena is very good at feigning emotions and charm for her needs, but she doesn't truly understand any of them. She is perfectly fine being alone, most of the 'sisters' in her Red Room class sooner or later turned foes. It was quite normal to see a girl one day, and then next she's not there anymore. Questions were not asked, concerns were not raised. It's just life. In that respect, she suffers from a severe lack of empathy.

Powers

Red Room Serum:
Dr. Lyudmila Kurdin's response to the American's Super Soldier Serum, it has seen several iterations as she kept perfecting it, the version Belova got empowered her in the following:

Strength: she can dead lift up to 500 lbs.
Speed: she can outsprint an olympic athelete.
Stamina: she can keep pace for miles.
Endurance: She can take twice the blunt physical trauma of a normal human.
Agility: more agile than an olympic gymnast.
Senses: her senses are heightened to peak human capability.
Healing: she heals roughly five times faster than a normal human.
Aging: she ages at an extremely slow pace.
Immune System: she does not get sick, toxins are slower to affect her.
Reaction: her reflexes are substantially quicker than a normal human.

Skills

Acrobat:
While Yelena was taught to be a weapon in the Red Room Academy, a strong element of building the strength, balance and flexibility needed was ballet. In fact, a ballerina was one of her earlier covers. As a result, Yelena is quite the acrobat, she can accomplish a variety of tumbling and contorting on the run, mid-air, on the ground and with percision.

Assassin:
Skilled in multitude of ways to end a life ranging from hand to hand, to weapons, to improvised weapons in the environment, all the way to poisons and sabotage. Cold blooded, she kills without hesitation when she has to.

Crack Driver:
Needed for getaway from operations, sometimes for breakins, and sometimes for on road assassinations in transit, nevermind getting away from pre-arranged death traps. Yelena is a top notch driver of a wide set of vehicles, both two and four wheeled. If necesary for a truly horrendous run, she may also commandeer a plane, albeit her performance there isn't as strong, and clear weather conditions would be recommended for safe passage.

Femme Fatale:
True to her codename, the term femme fatale was made for the likes of Black Widow, whether it's direct approach, the allure of being difficult to get, she can read her mark and behave accordingly to pique his interest in her. She is a master of the art of seduction, at least when it comes to dealing with men. She can feign absolute love for a person seconds before she assassinates him. She can manipulate and wrap men around her finger. Not that she's clueless when she has to deal with women of the right persuasion, nothing is beyond her, she's just not nearly as skilled in that case. Ultimately, one has to keep in mind Black Widow is a spy, and she does what she needs to get her intel, plant a bomb, steal, assassinate, or whatever the mission parameter might be.

Interrogation:
Every now and then she dons a disguise to glean information out of a mark under the guise of a friend or superior. In an actual interrogation room, she's even more dangerous, employing various means that usually lean on lying, seduction and manipulation.

Martial Arts:
Martial Arts: Since very early childhood, Natasha was trained in the Red Room Academy to become a weapon for the Soviet Union, she has began learning martial arts at a time most kids learn addition and subtraction. In time she came to master several styles: Sambo, Systema Kadochnikova, Karate, Judo, Savate, Muay Thai, BJJ. She is an expert in utilizing her smaller frame to take on much larger opponents.

Polyglot:
As the students of the Red Room Academy were expected to serve Mother Russia all over the world, they were taught to fluency in multiple languages, making Yelena a polygot. Amongst the languages in which she has full fluency are: Russian, English, French, Spanish, German, Japanese, Mandarin, Arabic.

Sharpshooter:
Yelena has been trained from a young age to be capable with virtually every small arm in service, as well as a wide array of heavier more exotic arms. With a sufficiently accurate weapon she's more than capable of enguaging targets out beyond a mile, and has a notable talent for reading environmental cues when shooting at extended ranges. Up close she's got a strong preference for carbines, and is capable of pushing most carbines to the utmost of their mechanical capability. With a handgun she's well above most competition shooters, but it pales in comparison to her ability with longarms.

Superspy:
You can drop her into a hostile country with nothing, and she's quite at home in no time. She's an expert at evading detection, bypassing patrols and slipping through check points. She's an exceptional pick pocket, a fantastic actor/liar, is an excellent forger and a fantastic lock picker. She's more than capable of bypassing most security systems, and infiltrating even hardened installations. Her "Cat burglar" work is easily her most accomplished skill, and demonstrated a capacity for working stealthily at heights from a very early age. She's also a pretty excellent photographer for a multitude of reasons, and more than able to make the best of a wide array of explosives.

Resources

Black Widow Suit:
An original creation of the Red Room. It is resistant to extreme temperatures, and small caliber bullets. It has suction cups built into the fingers and legs, activated by a secret button on her belt, allowing Black Widow to scale walls and move across ceilings, reminiscent of the spider that she is named after. The pouches of the belt she wears with her suit hides an arsneal of gadgets, such as tear-gas, taser mines, smoke pellets for disappearing acts, explosives, transmitters, and anti-detection device to foil metal detectors.

Black Widow's Gauntlets:
The silver bands forming the gauntlets on her wrists are the piece de resistance of the Black Widow suit and offer the following functionality:

Widow's Bite: projectile disc that upon contact delivers up to 30,000 volts, capable of knocking out and even killing a target.

Garotte: a piano wire that shoots out, allowing her to strangle a target by surprise.

Widow's Kiss: a release of a pinkish hued, fast acting knock out gas, able to take out those in her pursuit, or save her from life threatening situations where she might be overpowered.

Widow's Line: A grappling hook projectile connected to a retracting mechanism, allowing her to swing much like Spider-Man across buildings, making for an excellent getaway tool or means for suprise attack, jumping at a target through a window.

Nayk-7 Goggles:
The "Nayk-7" goggles are Yelena's trademark "Spider" goggles, and have been updated since she was first issued them. The current system combined imagine amplification(NV), Thermal and Hyperspectral video feeds into a composite overlay over daylight sensors. This is further supplimented with a limited augmented reality navigational system, which does wonders to keep her oriented and well informed of exactly whats going on around her.

The goggles recieve their "Spider" nickname from the visual element of the 8 glowing, red spider eyes. While they are in effect sensors, lasers and night vision amplifiers feeding the goggles' systems with data, the added bonus of the spider-like visage they grant is great for intimidation factor.

Web of Intel:
Through the years of training at the Red Room, of working in the GRU (Glavnoye Razvedyvatel'noye Upravleniye) the Main Intelligence Directorate, and the operations she's undertaken, Belova has amassed a web of contacts in different countries. A list of safe houses she could use when the need arise, and some emergency weapon stashes. It may not be needed day to day, but very helpful when things look grim.

Weaknesses

Lock and Key:
Lock and Key is a designed pheromonal biochemical scent, that can be applied like perfume. It affects Black Widow operatives, though some may have not been exposed to its programmed response during their training. A Black Widow affected by Lock and Key cannot commit violence against the wearer of the scent, and becomes quite obedient towards the person, as it invokes the feeling they had for their handlers and instructors during training at the Red Room. Should an enemy of Yelena get a hold of the Lock and Key scent, he'd be able to not only prevent her from causing harm to himself, but will also be able to give her orders she will not be able to disobey. The worst, is that being one of the highest kept secrets of the Red Room, many are unaware of Lock and Key's existence, to the point an affected Black Widow might think it comes of her own volition.

Pale Little Spider:
One of the worst insults Yelena had to suffer through her years at the Red Room is the derisive nickname: Pale Little Spider. It was given to her by her instructors when she bragged about earning top score in a field exercise for her class. She was informed that her class was disappointing, and despite scoring best, her performance paled in comparison to Romanova and while Romanova was the Black Widow, all Yelena was is a Pale Little Spider. Hearing that nickname can make Yelena unsettled and focused only on silencing the voice calling her that. It's a lapse on the Red Room's part that they never realized how deeply the insult wounded her, that a mere utterance of it can make her lose track of an objective.

Red Room Nightmares:
The Black Widow Ops program of the Red Room is one of the worst places for a little girl to group up. While they become some of the most effective spies and assassins, they are abused, stripped of their humanity as they're encourage to strip away emotions, empathy, and moral compass. There are only the instructors, and obeying the instructors, nothing else. The harrowing road to become a Black Widow leaves many scares, many nightmares, and a skilled telepath can bring those nightmares to the fore. A skilled psychologist or interrogator may be able to pry into those as well.

Solitude:
There are no friends in the Red Room. There are "sisters" in fellow cadets, but training is mostly meant to whittle out the weak. As time moves on, less and less girls show up to class. Some are eliminated during class, some outside of it. But a Red Room cadet learns not to form attachments, so there's no pain of loss. As a result Yelena has a habit of not sharing much about herself, and pushing people away. It's good and well for a weapon, but if she's ever to reclaim her humanity, this is something she'll have to learn to overcome.

Starkovsky:
Colonel Pyotr Starkovsky was the closest thing to a father Yelena ever had, she thought of him as such. He trained her personally for a decade, grew affectionate of her when she became more woman than girl, and paid a price with his life as the Red Room used him in Yelena's elaborate graduation 'exam'. As far as Yelena is aware, he was murdered by a psychopathic dominatrix named Petra. However, if Yelena was ever to learn that the person behind it was actually Captain Lubyev of the GRU acting on behalf of the Red Room...well...she might not want to be apart of the Red Room anymore, and may have to reassess her entire world view. For now, she's still ignorant of the fact.

Wanted:
Needless to say, while the Black Widow usually delivers on her missions, for every successful mission, she gains more people who lost a lot for her success. Over the years she has built many enemies, is likely wanted by several dangerous people about the globe, and most of them think death is too good for her. Part of the reason she comes off so reserved and cool is this constant state of alertness, always needing to look over her shoulder, because any mundane moment may hide an attempt on her life. In Yelena's case, the problem is even greater, because the Red Room intentionally uses the same codename for her as it did for Natalia. As far as enemies know, there is only one Black Widow, and she never stopped. So should Yelena wind up in the claws of the many enemies of Russia, she may be forced to pay the price for many of the things Romanova did.
