T'Challa A typical Wakandan day outside: in the 80s, humid enough that those unaccustomed to it might find some discomfort. For those natural-born, for those with the technology to handle it, it is not so bad. Within the capitol of Birnin Zana, and the palace and property of Wakandan royalty is kept especially comfortable.

The King makes his way to the labs, dressed in his usual finery. For him, it is a casual look with designs worked into the top and sleeves, and he sports footwear that features technology that makes his steps silent. Upon arrival, T'Challa's eyes sweep the main room in search of someone particular, someone who is often in the middle of something down here. The princess. His sister. Shuri.
Shuri The lab is particularly chilly for a plethora of reasons. Shuri works with Vibranium down here and she has to keep it rather crisp to prevent the molecules at a static coveylance. It's a small thing, and something everyone has to take her word for, but given there's no person on Earth better at working the metal? She's sort of the leading expert.

Shuri is looking at holographic diagram of something she's been working on for some time now. Making minor adjustments to the schematic, while throughout the lab 'Land Down Under' is playing. There's even a hologram of the band playing from one of their 80s concerts.

Her foot taps to the beat as she rubs at her angular chin. ASSUMEDLY unaware that T'Challa was snooping!
T'Challa T'Challa watches this for a spell, glancing toward a couple suits that are in the works. There is always testing going on, always an attempt made to refine the suit and panther habit for better efficiency, better protection, better technology.

That is secondary to what he sees and hears: Shuri listening to Men At Work, specifically that song. It is one he's heard before, given his own travels.

Reaching down, he touches his kimoyo beads and it initiates a hologram of him off to one side of Shuri's workstation. "An interesting choice of songs, sister," he says, and his voice sounds like it's coming through in stereo. There is a reason for that.
Shuri Maybe it was the music, maybe it was how into her research she had become, but when Shuri hears T'Challa's voice, she starts... then goes stark still as if it hadn't happened. Nobody saw that, can't prove anything. As of yet, she is unaware that he is behind her 'ALLEGEDLY'. She clears her throat, "I am doing research for a project to help with the brush fires in Australia, brother..." She stresses that last word as if it is both pointedly important AND an insult.

Nevermind that the excuse she came up with for why she was listening to the song at all is nonsense. "What are you doing, besides spying on me? hmmm? Did you lose another suit?" She chides, no missing the playful edge to her tone. She plants her hands on her hips and turns towards the hologram. "Hmmmmm?"
T'Challa "That is good of you. Be certain to keep most of the specifics to yourself when it comes to the usual things. We grow ever closer to sharing the truth with the world, but the right time is not quite yet," says the King, and if he noticed her shift in place, there is nothing said of it. For now.

He adds, "Let me know if you require any assistance with resources, testing, or anything else. T'Challa, out." The hologram disappears.

Only then does he add, from a couple feet behind her, "Why would you assume I lost another suit, my jumpy sister? I have not lost one in months." By now his arms have crossed, and there is a very curious and mostly amused expression he wears.
Shuri Excelcior, he hadn't noticed. Shuri breaths a sigh, it could be relief or exasperation at being lectured, and flicks her hand upwards as if she's far too busy with her experiment! "I know, I know..." This said in an inpudent tone, "I would not put our nation in a poor position. You would think you have more faith in me." She knows better than to think he doesn't, of course. She's very tongue in cheek and playful.

When the hologram disappears she reaches out to turn her music back on, only to hear him call out to her from a few feet back. Which causes her to jump again! "You!" She scolds! Wiggling a finger in his direction, after having nearly thrown one of tools. "That is a cruel and dastardly trick, brother.." Though she can't help grinning, just a little. "Because you are prone to accidents and do not respect my hard work on them, obviously."
T'Challa T'Challa holds up a pair of fingers. "That is twice, and no matter what it was, you are smiling. That is preferable to the alternative. Oh, and you might say 'I've still got it.'" Now that the ruse has been given up, he approaches normally to have a closer look at what she's doing. "Accidents? I do not know what you speak of. I never have 'accidents.' I simply put your work through extreme situations to see how it holds up, how it might be made better. I was, however, thinking of marketing these. 'Air T'Challa' has a nice ring to it, but I am afraid it would generate lawsuits. A shame."

He must be joking, but he is doing an admirable job of not letting on. "Might you explain some of the details of this project for the fires, or are you going to tell me that while yes, I do have an excellent scientific mind, I am not on your level?"
Shuri Shuri glares at him, but she is smiling, that part at least is true... She waves her hand up as if to swat away an annoying fly, "Bzzzzz I cannot hear you over the sound of you trying to patent my ideas. How capitalistic of you! So very coperate West. Very impressive." She can give as good as she gets though! "Air T'Challa, Mwalakala! You would sully such a beautiful piece of art with such a simplistic Non sequitur for the purpose of advertisements. They do not make you JUMP higher OR run faster... You lie to children." She points an acustory finger at him. Wiggling scoulding.

"For shame, Black Panther. For shame."

As to her work? She purses her lips and crosses her arms over her thin chest, "I will say nothing of the sort because you already KNOW that you are not on my level." Scoff, chin up, but her eyes cut to the side to watch him. "But if you MUST know.. It will use a heat induced material to spread a fire retardant substance along a predetermined path. So they can safely curb the spread of fires in brushlands."
T'Challa T'Challa lifts a finger. "By nature of being the King, all of Wakanda's ideas belong to me. That means.." He fails, this time, to keep a straight face, waving off the aftermath of that silly but very possible claim. "Oh, you are saying marketing pushes boastful claims full of exaggerations and, in many cases, falsehoods in order to coax unsuspecting and gullible customers into spending their money? Surely not."

They both know better. There is a sniff at her confirming what she thinks of his level of intelligence compared to hers, stating, "It is just as well that I am a far better warrior and tactician than you. That being out of the way now, this sounds like a simple yet effective solution. How quickly do you believe it can be provided to them for use?"
Shuri Rather than try to engage him in rhetoric on the ins and outs of marketing and how they are evil beings summoned by the Satanic works of Capitalist, she childishly sticks her tongue out at him and plants her hands on her hips defiantly.

"Yes because otherwise I would make a very fine queen." A mantle she does not want, at all. "Yes, that being out of the way.. It is ready to be deployed now. We tested it earlier this week and I have made several adjustments to the bonding solution for the climates in Australia. It can also be used in other places, but after they nearly burned down their whole country..." She felt inclined to help them. It's low tech enough that few would think some advanced civilization had created it. "Do you want to present it to them and steal all of the credit?"

Genuine offer, actually. She really doesn't like being out in front.
T'Challa "One day you may be Queen, but let us both hope that day is very far away, if ever," T'Challa says. If anyone knows the path of succession, it would be them. However, he has yet to 'settle down' with one who would bear his progeny. In due time. The line of succession to be Black Panther and rule of Wakanda is not always a straight path.

Upon hearing her explanations behind the testing, he nods once to show his approval before waving a hand to her offer. "I trust you to provide it as you see fit. I do not mean to treat this as if it is a matter of minor importance, but there are other things that weigh more strongly on my mind lately, and that is where my thoughts are focused on."
Shuri "Never, is far better than far away." Shuri doesn't want to be Black Panther. That's not her path at all. If she had to be, she would, but in her mind it is a mantle far better suited to her brother. "We will not think of that as more than a joke." Because in his line of work?

Yeah...

She does understand. Looking to her work with a nod, "I will see to it being distributed to those who need it and can make best use." Putting aside her work with a flick of her fingers over the sensors that control the holographic formula. "What is it that you have troubling your mind, brother? I assume you are here to seek wisdom from your brilliant, adorable, very wise sister."
T'Challa Yes. A joke. T'Challa merely nods to this, and his silence on the matter of Kings or Queens or any of that is left right there.

"Brilliant, adorable, /and/ very wise? I was unaware I had a second sister somewhere. Have you seen her?" He makes a show of lifting a hand to his brow, as though trying to peer into the beyond, then he turns just so in case she comes at him with a punch or something. He's accepted them before, when warranted. This would count.

Whatever the response, he grows more serious afterward. "There is much going on beyond our borders. I have visited Themyscira. There was much fanfare for it with them and they were greatly interested in the Dora Milaje, and I believe they will be good allies. As you know, we are working with them and Atlantis on the seaport plans, and it will feature our technology. We may keep that private for the time being, but the existence and purpose of the port will be quite public."

He continues, "We will also be aiding with repairs to Manhattan. It seems backwards to me that it takes destruction to speed up improvements. I suspect it scores politicians easy support when it comes to rebuilding, compared to improving. I also have my suspicions about the areas they spend more attention on. I think you know what I am talking about."
Shuri "Mwalakala! Another sister, huh!" Shuri slaps at his arm with her fist, hardly a physical match for him, though she's got all the training she'd ever need to take down most men.. she still swings as if she were hitting like a girl. Limp wristed and ineffective. By design. "You should be so lucky there isn't two of me!" her fist becomes an extended finger pointing at him. "Then there would a pair of siblings in this family with any brains in their cranium."

Her playful banter cools as he grows more serious however. Listening to what he has to say, though it's clear that the mention of him going to Themyscira is of no small interest, "You went and did not ask /me/ to accompany?!" How, dare, he... She looks genuinely offended. Mouth hanging open as if she can hardly believe what she's heard. "That is very rude." Just as easily she's forgiven him because there's only so much suspension of disbelief one can apply to such a situation where she was literally not around to be invited to go.

The rest she is, to some degree, aware of. That they were working with Atlantis, at least. She nods and replants her hips. "I should like very much to see the schematics for their seaport. So that I can out shine their technology with our own and impress upon them that being a fish person is no substitute for Wakanda." Things she would ONLY ever say to her BROTHER. Because diplomacy.

Like the reapir of Manhattan. "We covered this already, brother. Western capitalism. They probably will market as a rejuvination program. Add a starbucks to every corner. Clean up the streets of all the poor and homeless." She sucks her teeth noisely. "I will speak to people and see if there is some way I may assist. Perhaps it is time we revisit our plans to improve the Bronx, eh?" There's enough on his plate, though.
T'Challa T'Challa takes the swat since it was called for and earned, offering no retaliation or resistance to it. "Oh, one of you is certainly quite enough, that is for certain," he remarks.

Holding up his hands, he states, "They requested my presence for specific matters of secrecy!" More or less. "According to them, I may be the first King to ever set foot on their lands, but I am certain you would be more than welcome there." He hasn't got much in the way of an apology there. Sometimes being King and Black Panther /does/ come with certain benefits.

"You have not seen them? I understand the pylons and foundation have been under construction. They will be expecting most of the technology to be of Wakandan creation, which means you may be spending some time around it. We are also discussing teleportation technology to and from specific places, and how to safeguard it so it cannot be used by someone with bad intentions." He indicates her, stating, "That may be an area you can aid in as well." The 'fish' comment stirs a mild chuckle from him, and he walks along to have a closer look at the material of one of the newer suit prototypes. It looks much like his normal one.

As for capitalism and the like, he shakes his head. "They will do what they will, and we will do what we will. I am familiar with the idea of 'red tape,' and I am thankful that is not much of an issue for us here. In other places, we must be more mindful of their rules and regulations. I have been doing what I can in the Bronx since we met with the people there, to prove that they will not simply be forgotten again."
Shuri "Mhm. I would have competition, it is best there only is one of me." Shuri self congratulates with her hands on her hips. She temporarily busies herself with putting a few things away into their designated place on her work bench as he explains why she was not invited to a place that she has long wished to see...

"Oh I am certain that is true. Certainly my brother, kind and benevolent as he is, would leave his only sister out of such a wonderful adventure." She cannot even bring herself to look at him! Because she's grinning at her chiding remarks. Harmless as they are.

To the point of the schematics, "Some of them, yes, but I hope they have come further since I last saw. I will take another look to see how I could improve it." Already she is having ideas that come to mind, how she can provide some level of security against those who might bring ill intent to such a place. "Teleportation. Hopefully they do not use the tubes like in New York... such a waste of energy."

Then on capitalism. She seeths, but understands. This is why he does diplomats and she does technology. Each of them in their lane... and she knows to stay in hers. "I know, I know..." Inherently she does know. Logically as well, but that does little to sooth her frayed nerves on how Americans treat their people. How /all/ countries seem to. If it were a place where she could, it is entirely possible, she would spit on the floor. "Do not touch that, it is not finished yet."

Suddenly there to swat at his hand if he attempts to touch the suit in the display. "Soon."
T'Challa T'Challa turns a bit more serious, noted by what he does and doesn't respond to. "The next chance we have, we will see about getting you a tour of Themyscira. I am certain there are people there who would be quite interested in meeting you. Until then, I must ask you to be patient."

Pulling up something on his kimoyo beads, he sends a few files her way. "This is the latest I have on the construction. I was not sure whether you had seen them or not. It will be built with the capacity for other groups to make use of the port as well. It is a necessity for increased protection against potential threats from space."

There is little for him to add about the capitalist tendencies of not just America but other nations as well, nor the ways they treat their own citizens. They both know the differences where Wakanda comes in, and some of that is a source of consternation from people fearful of the change opening the nation up to the outside world could bring.

So it is that he darts his hand away before it can be swatted. "Why, is there a surprise?"
Shuri "Yes... would you expect nothing less?" Shuri raises her hand to swat, but the hand is already gone before she even gets it fully into position to do so. She narrows her eyes playfully and grins. "I think you will like it. Or break it... probably you will break it." She tucks the suit back into the displace with her fingers trailing down the segmented sections of the breast plate. She closes the case and turns to face him. "I will take a look at these schematics." Nodding to the data transferred to her work station. "And I will trust that soon you will take me on vacation." She comes just short of saying ''to Themyscaria'' because she can tell it's actually starting to annoy him that she keeps bringing it up. But he nows what she meant... and she nows that he knows.

Which amuses her even more.
