Peggy Carter It's Saturday morning, March 13th, and Daniel Sousa's birthday. Peggy asked very lightly if there was anything he wanted to do this week but, really, they have been neck deep in the refilling and rebuilding of New York City. It's been an incredibly long week and change while the city breathes itself back to life. She assured him it was fine, and let the conversation drop. Now, it's Saturday morning. Quite early Saturday morning. Early for Peggy, at least. And she is not in bed.

The smell of genuinely good cooking food, however, is starting to waft through the house. Something sweet, maple syrup probably. And fresh coffee brewing in the tall press. There is very, very quiet music in the kitchen, 1950s low jazz, that Peggy has on while she's focusing on making the best meal possible for her husband.
Daniel Sousa Daniel's birthday almost snuck up on him, if not for Peggy's gentle mention of it earlier he might well have forgotten. It definitely not the first thing on his mind when he wakes up to an empty bed. "Oh god, what now?" he murmurs thinking some new disaster got her up. He rises from bed pulling on his robe, it's only halfway on when the smell of breakfast hits his nose. "Huh," he says aloud, before following the smell towards the kitchen. "Morning, Peg," he greets as he arrives. "What's the occasion?" his mind not quite awake enough to consider the date.
Peggy Carter While Peggy is generally good about surprises, she didn't really expect him to be up quite this early. There is a little pack of candles out next to the oven, where something sweet and savory is finishing up in less than five minutes, according to the timer. The coffee smells decadent -- it's better than his usual pre-ground store bag. She got it freshly ground somewhere fair trade and high quality. It's just sitting, waiting to be pressed. On the counter is a fairly large, flat wrapped package.

She gives a small jump as she hears his voice behind her, dark eyes jerking back, "Daniel! Darling! What...what are you doing out of bed? It's not... time yet. I mean, it probably is, technically, yes, but... You were supposed to sleep in!" She huffs out teashingly, moving over to steal a long good morning kiss to his lips.
Daniel Sousa Daniel grins to see all the preparations Peg has made and more than happily returns the kiss, when their lips part he says jerking his thumb back towards the bed, "I could go back and pretend, but gotta admit kinda loving the smell of breakfast right now," he says stealing a second, brief kiss, before meeting her eyes and saying "Thanks Peg, this is amaing even if I did wake up too early."
Peggy Carter "Well... Happy Birthday. I had *hoped* to surprise you. And almost succeeded, considering I'm not even sure you remembered it was your birthday." Peggy teases him softly. She wraps her arms up around him, tugging him into a deeper, more lingering kiss. The sort of kiss that is made to wake him up. Apparently, he's going to stay in the kitchen.

Once that kiss breaks, she pulls away and moves back to the coffee press. She carefully pushes down the plunger, releasing the scent of the good coffee even deeper into the room. "That...almost smells good enough to make me want a cup. Almost." She has her decaf tea on, of course. She's not quite that insane.
Daniel Sousa There's certainly no objection to that second kiss, which seems to do it's job, as he seems a lot more awake than he was when he wandered into the room following the smells of breakfast. "Guilty," Daniel admits about forgetting it's his birthday, "But in my defense it was a strange," a beat while he pushes a hand through his messy black hair. "...However long it's been," he says before giving his head a gentle wry shake.

"You sure I can't tempt you over to the darkside, Peg?" he teases her back leaning over the press the drink in the aroma. "It smells pretty good..."
Peggy Carter A small tsk escapes her throat as he mentions tempting her to the dark side, "No, no... that is *all yours*. Besides, this baby has become quite used to tea and I'd rather not tempt heart burn on top of the stress of cooking an entire bread pudding before 8 in the morning. This is harder than staging a mission behind enemy lines!" Anyone else might be teasing when she says that, but Peggy Carter is dead serious. This has been a precisely planned, terrifying operation that had no promise of success. But she had to make it succeed, so she is.

She slides one cup of that beautiful brew in front of him and then steps over to the oven, carefully perching on her haunches to look at how risen the dish inside is. It looks lovely and puffy. And she's also not yet round enough to make crouching difficult! Victories all around.
Daniel Sousa "Well musn't upset the baby, or put you in danger of heartburn," he tells her gently, leaning over to kiss her cheek and adding "And it looks like another sucessful mission for your file Chief." He surveys the kithen with a pleased smile before clamining the cup of dark rich brew and having a sip, letting a little "Mmmm," of enjoyment escape his lips before wandering over to stand by the stove. "How's it look?" he asks her, he asks peeking down himself to have a look.
Peggy Carter "The baby is... well, I won't say fussy, but has certain tastes. I can tell." Peggy is probably getting close to the time where *she's* able to feel things fairly regularly, which means she has decided the baby's opinions already. And coffee is probably not among them. She reaches up to him, grabbing his hand so he can help her uncrouch. While getting down was possible, getting up is a bit of a challenge from that position, especially this time of the morning.

"I think it looks about done. Bread pudding, with raisins, maple syrup, eggs, cinnamon. I... figured it might be a bit less easy to burn than french toast. And you might want something better than what you spoil ME with. Not... not that your french toast isn't heaven. It is. But... I wanted to do something special." Once she's standing upright, she leans her hip and side against his, smiling with a touch of nerves behind it.
Daniel Sousa "Gee, wonder where they get that from?" Daniel asks with a smile at their child's fussy nature. He gladly helps Peggy up and wrapping his arm around her waist as she leans against him he says, "With how it looks and smells, *definitely* counts as something special and that's not even counting you getting up early and cooking something." He turns slightly leaning down to kiss her, "I've must have done good to get spoiled like this for my birthday, huh?" he teases warmly, a somewhat goofy if pleased smile on his lips.
Peggy Carter A smirk dances across her features as he says he's being spoiled. Peggy shakes her head gently to him, "Not at all. This is hardly spoiling. You haven't even opened your gift..." She nods towards the big package on the opposite counter, wrapped in plain brown paper with a twine string bow on top. "But, breakfast first. And I didn't even get to put the candles in!" Peggy half pouts at him, leaning there as she waits the last sixty seconds on the timer. Apparently, she had plans of carrying food, lit candles, and probably even a birthday sing.
Daniel Sousa "Trueee," Daniel says eyes drifting towards the package on the counter, but only for a moment before his attention returns to Peggy and he covers his eyes with a hand. "What candles?" he asks innocently turning and opening the fingers of his hand enough to walk to the table. "I definitely didn't see any candles, I'm just going to sit here and drink my coffee," he tells her with a warm laugh in his voice as he sits.
Peggy Carter "You, my love, are an amazing bombs expert. Great at demolition. Wonderful at tactics. The best sort of SHIELD agent out there. And an utterly awful liar, you know that?" Peggy asks with a wider grin, a little laugh and a kiss to the corner of his mouth. Then the timer is going off so she lets him go, turning back to the oven so she can pull it open and use oven mitts to pull out the casserole dish. It really does smell heavenly, sweet and savory at the same moment, apples hidden in the dish with the syrup.

"I... I wanted to do something truly special. I don't know, take you to the top of the empire state building or... some far off beach. But then work ate both of us the entire week and suddenly it was your birthday and all I had was bread and eggs..."
Daniel Sousa Laughing Daniel says, "What you didn't buy it?" he asks taking the kiss and giving back one of his own before moving to the table. Though he's not seated for long, rising to take Peggy's mitten covered hands in his own. "Peg this *is* truly special, besides I've seen far off beaches and I dangled off the top of the Empire State Building when that mission in '51 went sideways, some bread, eggs," a smile as he sniffs the pudding. "And maple syrup cooked by you before the crack of dawn is *definitely* special."
Peggy Carter There is a bit of relief in her dark eyes as he says that. Peggy knows he wouldn't lie to her if it wasn't that important to him. Peg smiles a bit softer, the bread pudding cooling off on the stove top and she hasn't even removed those mits yet. She leans up on her tip toes and kisses him one more time. "Well, it's not the only thing. But, I'll say it's a good start. Now, birthday boy, do you want breakfast in bed or shall we take it on the couch?"
Daniel Sousa Daniel lets his eyes linger on Peggy's to let her see that there was no deception. He's happy as can be with this birthday breakfast. "And I think we could both use the quiet time at home for a change."

As to the other question, they bring a smile to his lips and he says, "Well would hate to have you go to all this trouble then not be able to 'surprise' me in bed. Want me to go back and pretend to sleep?" he asks her, still smiling.

More than anything the teasing is a sure sign he's quite happy with how the day is turning out so far.
Peggy Carter A deep laugh escapes her throat, "You don't have to go back to sleep but... Go get comfortable. Let me bring you a tray, for once. Spoil you rotten. It's your day, Daniel. Let me take care of you this once?" She leans over, kissing him ever so softly on the mouth. Then she lets him go, nodding him along towards the bedroom before she turns back to the oven.

It's a few minutes before she follows him. A fresh cup of coffee, this one with sweet cream in. A still slightly steaming, large slice of the bread pudding with several candles across the top. The gift is tucked beneath her arm as she balances it all on a tray, carrying the set up into the room. "Happy Birthday to you... Happy birthday to you...Happy birthday, my Daniel...Happy Birthday to you." She doesn't have the best singing voice in the world, but she can keep the key and there's a soft, almost delicate ombre to her tone she doesn't have in speaking. It's the same tone she used singing their children to sleep. It's uniquely her's.
Daniel Sousa "Going," Daniel says as he's urged back to the bedroom, tossing his robe to one side before he climbss into bed to wait for Peggy.

When she arrives he can't help but smile, cheeks colouring a little as she sings to him. He's never one to be the focus of attention but today though it feels right.

"I love when you sing," he tells her, then as the pudding is presented. "Should I blow out the candles?" he asks with a glint of enjoyment plain in his eyes.
Peggy Carter "I mean, you can just let them sit there and drip wax all over you breakfast. But it's usually recommended to blow them out, yes. However, it is your birthday. Do as you please!" Peggy teases him gently, a wider smile dancing across her lips as she steps around and kisses his temple. "Besides, you should make a wish." It seems she is not dashing back to get her own breakfast until after the candles are out.
Daniel Sousa Daniel makes a face at Peggy through a laugh and says, "Oof, I think I deserved that, with all the teasing I do..." he grins before looking at the candles with mock seriousness. "Well glad you didn't go with a hundred and one or thirty eight, not sure I could get the all in one go..." he takes a moment considering the candles before he leans forward and blows them out in a long sweeping breath sending smoke and the sweet scent of melted wax towards the ceiling. "There, pudding saved and a wish made," he says reaching for Peggy's hand. "I'd tell you what I wished for but I don't want to jinx it, though it'd be hard to top this morning."
Peggy Carter "Don't you even tease me about that! You know how bloody curious I am. It's going to drive me mad all day trying to figure out what you wished." Peggy is only half teasing. She knows her mind and her need to KNOW things. "I'm glad you made one! Let me forget it. I'd rather it come true and jinx nothing, so don't even HINT at it." Or she is going to demand to know. She then leans over, kissing him once more before plucking out the now spent candles.

And then she makes her way out for just a few more moments. She needs to get her own tea and pudding before returning to his side. She sets her plate down and removes her robe, standing there in just her night gown now. She's to the point that, in light clothes, it's clear she's pregnant and not just 'soft'. It's a good look on her. Her pregnant frame climbs up into the bed next to him.
Daniel Sousa Daniel grins "What do you think I wished for?" he asks her knowing that's almost as bad as hinting.

Daniel digs in when the candles are gone and Peggy's gone to get her food but he stops short of his mouth and lowers the spoon, saving the first bite for when she can see it herself. Though when she returns and joins him his eyes are only on her. "Have I told you lately how good you look, Peg?" he asks leaning over to kiss her gently.
Peggy Carter "I... don't know! A hundred more birthdays like this? The evil time lords don't come and hunt us town? For a baby girl? I don't KNOW and you can't tell me!" And it's driving her insane already. Peggy laughs as she climbs into the bed with him, though her smile does widen a bit more as she sees him eat that first bite. And it IS good. She didn't mess up anything!

That comment about how she looks gets both brows arched, a little surprised, but she doesn't protest. She just settles in at his side, balancing her plate in her still not too missing lap. But there is definitely less of it than there was last month. "I look... fluffy, I think. But thank you." She returns that kiss.
Daniel Sousa "Getting warmer," Daniel teases taking a second bite of pudding savouring it as much as the first. "We may need to make this a birthday tradition," he says, "The pudding, not quietly driving you insane with curiosity, though that's good too." He ducks the expected swat.

Chucking he says, "Fluffy's not the word I'd use, take my word for it Peggy, you look good."
Peggy Carter The side of his stomach does get a gently swat from the back of her hand. But she follows it up with a kiss to the side of his neck and then just slumps in the bed a bit closer. Peggy is still tired herself, she never gets up this early unless it's for a mission. Now she gets to enjoy being drowsy, warm, and the fruits of her labor in the kitchen.

"Mm... if not Fluffy, then what word would you use? I suppose good will do, if that's all you have..."
Daniel Sousa "Amazing," Daniel says around another bite, a smile on his lips. "You not the pudding," a beat and a tilt of his head. "Actually both but I meant it about you."

As she slumps he smiles. "If you want to nap I won't hold it against you," he tells her. "Plus you'll be able to get back at me and leave me in suspense about my present."
Peggy Carter That makes her laugh huskily, "You, permitting me to gently torture you on your birthday? I feel almost bad." But also tempted. She takes another good bite of her pudding, but without her normal morning caffiene and a belly full of warm bread pudding? It's highly likely she's going to take him up on his offer to go back to sleep. For a little bit, at least. "And you can't say you aren't tempted to tuck back into bed, full and warm, knowing we have no reason to set an alarm.
Daniel Sousa Grinning, Daniel says, "Almost."

"And of course you can but just remember I can do the same to you when yours comes around Peg," he teases lightly finishing his pudding and putting his tray down beside the bed. "You might be right about getting some sleep though," he admits was he shimmies down to lay his head against the pillow. "It does sound tempting."
Peggy Carter One last, big bite of her own pudding is taken. There is plenty left in the kitchen and currently no other grubby hands (children or animals) to disturb it, so she doesn't even need to worry about putting it away. She sets her plate aside, turning on her side and sinking into the bed with him, going flat against the pillows with her belly and breasts gently pressed against his side. "May I tempt you more, hmm?"
Daniel Sousa Peggy's question has Daniel turning his head to look over at her, brow arched. "Oh? What kind of temptation did you have in mind?" he asks her, pretending like he doesn't have a pretty good idea of what she means.
Peggy Carter "I mean... mainly this very warm bed and curling up with me until we are both sound asleep. But I'm taking other ideas." Peggy admits softly, her voice already getting quiet and raspy. She's this close to being out cold again. She just needs him to settle down with her and the final piece will be complete.
Daniel Sousa "Maybe after," Daniel says through a yawn, smiling as he settles beside her, getting comfortable and shifting to help Peggy do the same. "This sleep idea is growing on me," he tells her before brushing a kiss against her lips. "I love you Peg, this birthday has been amazing so far, looking forward to more." Once they both wake from their naps.
