Nettie Crowe     The Candle Booke and Belle is always open for those seeking Nettie's aid. That was a newish deal that she's working on -- in the light of developments from the Magical world and the re-appearances of some 'old acquaintences' that have been bothing her dreams and cards. The silvery-haired Greywitch, after closing down the shop for the night, had been a buzz with activity, moving some of the furniture about, switching colors, exhanging old tea cups for new ones out of storage. She has her wand struck through a messy bun, was wearing a T-shirt promoting a tour from the 70's, written in Gaelic, leggings and a flowy skirt, stalking around the place.

"And the circle's set up in the kitchen for now, should give us all enough room to both work and contain in case things get a bit worrisome --" she states, looking up to the crow that follows from perch to perch.

"I'm telling you, Annette, it's a bad idea."
Billy Kaplan Billy called earlier in the day to arrange a time to meet with Nettie. He has, as she knows, been very worried about his burgeoning powers. Kid's terrified that he will unleash something on some poor innocents and he's made it very clear that he will take himself out before he lets himself harm the innocent. That's not angst or drama, it's just a fact.

He's walking down the sidewalk to Nettie's shop, vaping. He takes a huge draw from the vape and lets out an absurd vapor cloud just before going into the shop. He tucks the device away and enters. "Hey Nettie," he says with a soft smile on his face. "How's it goin'?"
Tynan Ireton     Well, its been awhile since Ty has been back to the Candle. She has been working on a lot of jobs recently, and well, her magical teachings has slackin only slightly. Given those that taught her, and the lessons learnt, its not hard to understand how. Especially since they showed her different ways of calling forth power.

As Ty walks up to the door, she pauses a moment, and places a hand on the door. She closes her eyes, and summons a small amount. "Barth.", she says, tapping her heel down. This sends out a small wave of magic that detects everything around her. Its also a calling card for the young woman, given its her first spell that she ever created. And a very necessary spell for a young mercenary. The woman waits to be given permission to enter first, since the shop is closed.
Nettie Crowe     "Come in, Ty! Allo Billy!" Nettie calls out, and she gives a distracted wave. "Don't mind me, been a bit of a day -- had one of those --what do you kids call them these days -- Karens. A Karen in my shop. Can you imagine? Making demands of me and wanting to see the manager, and then the owner. Rude to one of the girls who comes in and helps me in exchange for discounts on the books and tea, mind you it's a verbal agreemend and everything's quite under the table --" she trails off, pausing at a mirror to fix her hair a moment and wrinkling her thin nose.

"Ty, pleased to meet Billy. He's a new student. Billy, Tynan Ireton, bit of an old student, odd duck, very interesting reaction to learning other magics, though not *once* has she turned English on account of her being a bit of a prat about it." she calls up, giving a friendly, teasing lilt to her Northern English brogue, and she turns back to the two students as everyone comes in.

"We're going to be working on some control exorsizes, if you mind a bit of a stay, Ty."
Billy Kaplan Billy turns to regard Tynan. He extends a hand to her and offers one of his genuine smile. "Hey, Ty, pleased to meet you. I'm Billy Kaplan." If she shakes, she'll find Billy's grip to be warm and soft and gentle. Definitely not a Wall Street power handshake for sure.

He gestures in Nettie's direction with a nod of his head. "Nettie here is gonna teach me now to not destroy all of time, space, and dimension." He flashes a playful grin to Nettie.
Tynan Ireton     Ty takes the offered hand. Her hand is rough and callused. Its not the hand of a young lady, but feels more like the hand of a grizzled sharpshooter. "Nice to meet ya.", she says with a northern Irish brouge. Her asian look versus her tone sometimes seems to throw people off.

"I don't mind a bit of a stay. Gotten a little out of practice of sorts, having to do a few different jobs lately.", the woman tells. She stretches out a little bit. "Should I consider placing a defensive enchantment up?", she asks. The woman pops her neck a little bit. "I mean, I do have some enchanted salt that I just did up.", she says. "Also, this one won't freak out if I use different schools will he?", she asks.
Nettie Crowe     "Well let's not go THAT far. I'm plenty destructive on my own, though I haven't utterly destroyed anyone since the mid 90's." she pauses, and tilts her head back "That was a *fun* birthday." she gives a playful smile, and she stretches her arms, and cracks her knuckles.

"We're going to be usin' the circle in the kitchen. It's the strongest one, since that's where I do a good amount of casting and was re-enforced during my last round of trouble in the area." she explains, and she pauses a moment "... couldn't hurt, Ty. D'y'ave it with you?" she asks, and she pauses a moment, and she tilts her head.

"Well. That one is a pretty unique quality to y'self, Ty. I've not seen anyone with similar traits -- but I reckon the lad's fine with seein' a bit of shifting." Nettie remarks.
Billy Kaplan Still young enough that perhaps he hasn't grown offended at being talked about like he's not in the room, Billy smiles warmly and clasps his hands behind his back as the two discuss whether or not he's going to freak out at certain things.

When they're done, Billy says, "The other day a giant threw me into a mortar nest and I took out the mortar and the crew. With my body. So I promise I'll do my best not to freak out at stuff." Running with the Avengers /has/ made some changes in Billy's day-to-day.
Tynan Ireton     "Aye, I keep one canister in subspace, and one out. Just in case.", she tells. The woman stretches out. "Lad, I've seen some strange stuff since I started down this road. And many get creeped out by me when I start using magic.", she says. "I just ask in case I have to defend myself suddenly.", she tells.

Ty heads into the kitchen, and starts to make her own circle with enchanted salt. There's a slight sulpheric scent to it, meaning its been enchanted with daemonic style. Ty draws a few runes in eldrich, before making a slight motion, and biting her lip. She places her finger to her lip, collects the drop of blood, and presses it to the circle as she closes her eyes.

When Ty opens her eyes, her eyes have yellowed, and her pupils are more like slits. There's a aura around her, as a small demonic tail swings lazily, and two tiny aura horns appear on Ty's head. There's a tiny fang poking out her lip cutely. "Mind you, if I have to use that other style, its going to be hard for me to control given the area, Miss Crowe. The pull I was taught for that other style with this much magic around can be very nasty.", she warns.
Nettie Crowe     "Then perhaps it's better if I control it. You're in my sanctum, after all." Nettie calls to Ty, and she makes her way into the kitchen. "Wouldn't want my crab legs to come back to life, yeah?" she gives a small smile, and she looks back to Billy, and motions her head into the room marked 'Private'.

The Kitchen was an abormally large space which should be projecting into the building next door. There is a row of older 1950's looking appliances, along with a large Kelvinator unit that is rattling like a dying water buffalo.

Here, there is a large circle burned into the floor, and those with magical senses may get the feeling that this is something of a sacred space, not just storage or prep, this is a place where NEttie has performed magic.

There's also a row of very, very clean pots, from which a robotic cat makes its way out from behind, giving a vocal 'mew' and Ty, and then hopping off to make its way further into the sanctum that Nettie has set up.

The older-than-she-appears witch places her shoulder against the prep island in the center of the room, and bodily moves it out of the way to expose that there are scorched-in footprints in the center of the circle.
Billy Kaplan Billy does as instructed and follows Nettie into the kitchen. He peers around with a smile as he acknowledges that this is an extradimensional space. The young reality bender watches Tynan begin her unusual type of magic. If the countenance freaks him out at all, he shows no outward sign of it. In this world, mystical types need to stick together, so Billy isn't one to judge branding too harshly.

The young man steps to the side to be as out of the way as possible. He gently clasps his hands behind his back and waits patiently. He's lucky to be here to have access to Nettie's wisdom, so he's quite content to wait.
Tynan Ireton     Ty nods her head a little bit. "Ok, Nettie. I don't think I need to use fox magic, so I should be good.", she says. Ty looks over at Billy a moment, with demonic like eyes. "I had several teachers teach me while Nettie took some time for herself. One was a hell lord, and the other is a kitsune avatar to Inari. My appearence alters with what style I'm using.", she tells. "I'm currently using salt that I enchanted using the hell lord's lessons. As well as the lessons she taught me on protection. Mind you, I have 0 offensive magic.", she says. "And trust me, thats scary."
Nettie Crowe     "Everything about magic should be scary." Nettie replies quietly to Tynan, and she cracks her knuckles again, and motions to Billy.

"So, here's what's going to happen. This here --" she taps the outside of the circle with one bare foot "Is a protective circle. I used it for casting wards on the place during the Angel attack, given there's some members of the supernatural community who cannot leave the island for any reason. Damn irresponsible telling everyone to leave, if you ask me." she gives a sniff. No one asked her. Probably part of the problem.

"So, what I'll have you do, Lad, is stand in the middle 'bout where my footprints are scored into the wood, an' I'm going to have you concentrate a bit of magic into a condensed ball, and we're gonna hold it for as long as we can. Bit like strength training." she explains, "Meanwhile --"

She pulls out two cloth bags, and tosses one bodily to Ty.

"We're gonna toss beanbags at you from outside the circle to try and muck up your concentration. The circle'll protect the surrounding place from any expulsion of energies magic, right?"
Billy Kaplan Firstly, Billy listens intently as Tynan explains the origins of her magical styles. The polite young man nods to her when she finishes explaining. He /obviously/ has been exposed to a great deal of supernatural shenanigans because he doesn't so much as blink when she mentions being tutored by a hell lord and a kitsune avatar to a Japanese god.

Next, at Nettie's instruction he steps into the circle and nods. "Nettie, keeping my power going isn't my problem. It's keeping it from going too far that's my problem. Is this...is this circle really strong?"

The teenager seems nervous and there's a light sheen of perspiration forming on his forehead. For anyone who might be able to sense such things from a distance, his heart rate is beginning to increased dramatically.
Tynan Ireton     Ty looks at Nettie a long moment after catching the bean bag. "Hey, if it makes you feel better, the last major screw up Nettie had with a student, I think that student got possessed? Or was it me with the crab legs? Or the explosion? Well, either way, Nettie's circle is pretty damn strong, and I tossed up one of my circles around myself. Its decent protection. I havn't seen how strong it can contain, but I know it can take more then a few fireballs. Doesn't help against bullets though...", she says.

"Oh! Should I get that book out? That'll really mess with his concentration!", Ty smiles. Nettie might remember that pain in the rear end book...Sometimes a shade manages to sneak out, and misbehaves....
Nettie Crowe     "No, Ty, that book should stay where I put it. It's a very bad book." Nettie replies, and she pauses a moment, looking to Billy, and she takes a breath, and then simply sinks down into a cross-legged possition. She pulls her feet up, sitting lotus-style, and motions both of her students nearby.

"Let's cover your concerns before we begin." Nettie states quietly.

"This circle here is strong. I've used it to send the astral forms of my companions to the Silver City, on the outskirts of Heaven. I've used it to send the bodily forms of invaders to Hell. It was from here that I protected the majority of this block from Angelic interferance, in spite of the fact that Gabriel might just have it out for me." she gives a wry smile.

"However, if you do not trust my work, we should probably start with something smaller, hmm?"
Billy Kaplan Billy moves closer when instructed and listens intently to Nettie. His expression a tangle of guilt when she mentions lack of trust. "No no no," he says. "You guys, I trust you both. Nettie, you I trust. Ty, if Nettie vouches for you then that's more than good enough for me. It's /me/ that I don't trust."

Nervously, he begins to pace. With a small laugh, he bends a bit and wipes his sweaty palms on his jeans. "Jesus, why am I so nervous? Don't s'pose either of you have any weed?"

He stands straight and moves to the middle of the circle. "Okay, let's just do this thing." He waggles both arms at his sides for a moment like they were rag dolls arms. Then with a deep inhalation, he speaks magical syllables. The arcane energy crackling in his words is palpable in the air like ionization. Young and inexperienced? Yes, to be sure. But unbeknownst to him, he draws from so deep a well that one wonders if there's a bottom to it. "Arcane energy bend to my will," he murmurs with those magic-enhanced syllables.

Holding his hands together, a sphere of power forms between his palms. His own hair stands up like he just touched a Van de Graaff generator. For the moment, though, he seems to be controlling the sphere aptly.
Tynan Ireton     Ty pauses a moment, and notices the pull almost instantly. Its similar enough to her pull of outside magic to work into her fox magics. "Nettie, thats a bit of a source he's got. Do you still have those anti rift wards still in place? I think I might want my shield for this.", she says. The woman rubs her sweaty palms on her cargos for a second. "He's pulling deeper then Marian or I ever did.", she says.
Nettie Crowe     "That's because Billy is someone on the level beyond what you are or what I am." Nettie answers back to Ty, and she watches as Billy takes to the center of the circle, and she breathes out quietly. She gives her own words of power, Olde English, blending Germanic words and the circle around Billy glows. She watches a moment, and she leans back against the wall, at peace entirely with what she's watching.

"Put more energy into it, Billy!" she calls out, "I want to see you light up half a' Manhattan with that glow!"

And she brings her hands up, crossing at the wrists, and she activates the second layer of the circle.

Around Billy, the circle's text, carved in runes and Old English phrases as Crowe herditary magic pulls from jolly Olde England, and she breathes out, her breath showing as a shimmery violet force, adding to the magic of the circle.

"Those anti rift wards are still active. I've got this, Ty."
Billy Kaplan The young reality bender's gaze shifts nervously to Tynan and then Nettie. One can tell Billy is nervous about that last instruction, but he won't disrespect Nettie a second time tonight. The first time can be chalked up to nerves, but not a second time.

Still energizing his words with his magical energy, Billy intones, "I control you!" He stares at the orb as he does.

The orb grows larger and brighter between his hands. The young man's breathing rate increases. Like a bellows, his chest pumps air forcefully in and out, in an out.

"It's holding!" he exclaims. "It's holding!" The temperature in the room jumps twenty degrees.
Tynan Ireton     Ty nods her head a little bit, but to be safe, she changes the direction of her pull. The woman starts to infuse her circle with a bit of her soul. Not a lot though. Just enough that she'll recover in a day or two should things go bad. Her features grow a bit more demonic, as she grows a second fang, and her horns get bigger. That tail seems to be able to move and twitch on its own.
Nettie Crowe     "More power, Billy!" Nettie calls out, stretching her fingers wide, curling her toes slightly. "Hold it now, steady on lad! Keep it steady!" she barks, and she brings her hands down to the side of the circle. The second interior circle completes, with Ty's help and the power of her soul behind it as Nettie's eyes go large, the Iris thinning and her pupils like pools of ink, black filling in against her whites of her eyes as she pulls on her own wells to keep Billy contained. It's as much a study for her of him as it was for him, her head tilting to the side as the temperature of the room climbs to ninety degrees, uncomfortably warm in the kitchen.

Overhead, Corvax gives a loud caw of concern, and lands at Nettie's side. His eyes are glowing, a reaction from the thick amount of magic in the air
Billy Kaplan Clenching his jaw, Billy does as Nettie instructs and draws more power. It's more than he has ever drawn before, even when he battled earlier in the week alongside the Avengers! The arcane sphere grows in size yet again, now more than three feet in diameter! He stares into the crackling energy orb and his eyes go wide. "Nettie! Ty! Do you see it?" He's talking to them, but also not talking to them. He's there in the room, but also somewhere very, very far away. "It goes on forever. I can follow it to the very end." The very end of what?

Then suddenly the young caster starts to hover in the air. He doesn't seem to notice. He's staring so intently into that arcane orb, which has now grown to nearly four feet in diameter. His voice, just above a whisper, can barely be heard above the crackling of the energy. "It's so beautiful, a great swirl of light that covers everything. Do you see it? Do you see how beautiful it is?"
Tynan Ireton     Ty is starting to really strain. "Nettie, another stronger, and I'm going to have to directly pull from the magic in the room, and draw it in.", she tells. The woman winces, knowing how bad that might be. "I never had to contain this much before."
Nettie Crowe     And Nettie breathes out, and she watches as Billy focuses his powers, and she breathes out.

"Pull back, pull back Billy! Listen to my voice. Pull back from The Light, feel your body around you. The ends of your fingers and toes. The twisting of your gut. The air in your lungs. The sweat on your forehead. COme back down to the ground and feel the Grounding energy in the old wood, from centuries old trees and trodden upon by generations of men adn women and children. Feel the familiar flow of my magic against the soles of your feet, Lad. Come back down."
Billy Kaplan Over the past weeks Billy has really grown to trust and adore Nettie. Her voice gives him an anchor. "Yes," he says in a voice that is both his own and Something Else. "It is not yet time for the Becoming. That is yet to come."

The first thing that happens is Billy's feet touch the floor. Then the arcane energy sphere shrinks and shrinks until it's gone. Billy's hair rests back against his scalp, though it's all foofed out like a 90's glam rock star. Then slowly the temperature in the room goes back to normal.
Tynan Ireton     As soon as the energy starts to lower back down, Ty draws her soul energy back into her. She falls on her rear, panting a bit. "...I think I need to charge for that. At least 2 pints, and 3 beers.", she mutters. The woman shakes her head a bit. "That was a bit more then I thought was going to happen."
Nettie Crowe     Nettie allows her eyes to return to normal, and she slumps a little bit against the wall, and looks to Billy with a new sense of understanding. She drops the circles and wards around him, and then gives an *exhausted* puff of breath out.

"Oi, lad. Not often I get to see someone look into the Unlimited an' then come back down. How are you feelin', boyo?" she asks of him, giving a wan smile to Tynan.
