Peggy Carter Peg spent most of the day with May, organizing the last of the books in the library, but eventually work called the woman away. She was trying not to get worried about Daniel not being home yet, but she certainly wasn't going to go to bed without him, even as the evening carried on. Eventually, the exhaustion of a long day organizing books and low key celebrating her birthday got the better of her. The gently rounding woman is dead asleep on the couch of their old home, swollen feet up on one of the throw pillows, very faintly snoring.
Daniel Sousa It's not too long after Peggy falls asleep that Daniel's SUV pulls into the driveway and he walks to the house jet lagged but whole a suitcase trailing behind him and a white box tied with string under his arm.

He makes his way inside and calls out "Peg, I'm home," before he catches sight of her sleeping and smiles.

Leaving his suitcase by the door he makes his way over to his gently snoring wife and presses a soft kiss to her forehead.
Peggy Carter The kiss against her forehead is enough to gain her attention, gently starting to rouse her back to wakefulness. Peggy's body shifts, rolling over onto her side and kicking the pillow down accidentally as she stretches her soft frame out in her sleep. It's a testament to how well she knows him and how deeply a part of her life he is, that when he wakes her up she doesn't jerk awake with the paranoia of an old spy. She knows who he is, to the deepest part of her, she knows.

Finally, her dark eyes flicker open and turn drowsily upwards to him. A smile blossoms on her lips, expression still half asleep, but she's relieved and joyed to see him home. "You made it..."
Daniel Sousa The lack of violent reaction is noted for what it is, proof of how well they know each other and how naturally they trust.

"Wasn't going to miss my best girl's hundred-and-first. He glances to the box he's carrying, "I might have even remembered to get you something," he tells her with a warm smile.
Peggy Carter "I know, but...I told you, if it went long, enjoy the mission. I'm glad you went. But... I'm glad you're home." Peggy's voice admits huskily, still trying to pull herself out of sleep. She tiredly pushes herself into halfway sitting, leaning in to reach for his lips and take a long, sleep-warm kiss. One of her hands come up to twine through his hair, pulling him a little closer. "Mm. I love you. Happy Birthday to me. Now... what did you get me?" She looks towards the box curiously as she finally swings her legs down.
Daniel Sousa Daniel happily lingers in that sleep warm kiss for as long as it lasts. "Glad to be home too, the mission was interesting but it's not as much fun as being home with you."

Cheezy? Yes, but he means every word.

Presenting the box he says, you'll have to open it and find out." Though the box does look suspiciously like the ones they use at the diner with the really good coconut cream pie.
Peggy Carter Peg is in that part of her pregnancy when she's craving sweets nearly constantly, so she's not keeping a lot of them in the house. Because she'd eat them for hours on end if she did. Her stomach loudly grumbles at the promise of what might be in that box, using one of her red fingernails to peel back the tape and pop it open. "...Did you bring me coconut cream? I hope you know, I'm going to eat this entire thing. if you ask VERY nicely, you get one slice."
Daniel Sousa Chucking Daniel remarks dryly "How kind." Though it is indeed a coconut cream pie, and looks freshly made. "Happy birthday Peggy," he tells her then his tone sincere. "So glad we're here to celebrate this together," he tells her, and not just in the sense of being back from the mission there'd been a lot of obstacles to overcome this past year but they made it and for Daniel it made this moment all the more sweet.
Peggy Carter A little, happy sound comes from her throat as she sees the fluffy and fresh looking pie. Peggy grins, leaning over to kiss him again, "It's perfect. Well... other than a fork. If I had a fork, it would be perfect." She smooth his hair back off of his face after a moment and then lets him go so she can push herself up into standing. Her own hair is definitely a bit of a muss from sleeping and she still has that drowsy, tossled look about her, but she's up. She heads for the kitchen, expecting him to follow. "I'm... glad we're here too. ANd glad the night is quiet. I saw Melinda today, you tonight... That's all I needed."
Daniel Sousa "Knew I missed something," Daniel says before getting up to follow Peggy to the kitchen. "Sounds like a pretty good day to me," he remarks opening the cutlery drawer and getting them both forks, he hands one to Peggy. "Want some tea on, or shall we dive right in?"
Peggy Carter "Mm... if I have tea, do I get a second proper cup of black tea, a treat for my birthday?" Peggy asks him with a grin across her shoulder. She is already putting on the kettle, because that's habit the moment she walks into the kitchen. She sets it on the burner and lights the flame up before she turns back to the big box and goes for a pie cutting knife. She is going to share, it seems, instead of just grabbing a fork and diving in.
Daniel Sousa Narrowing his eyes he says "I suuuupose..." in response to the question about tea before shaking` his head chuckling "Wouldn't keep you from your tea but make me a cup too. If you're going to be up all night might as well have some company." The forks are brought over and Daniel grabs a couple of plates as well since it seems Peggy is in a sharing mood.
Peggy Carter "I will *not* be up all night. Trust me, if anything could keep me up at night, I'd use it. I still feel like I'm dragging myself to bed by the end of every day. And I know, I know...I should enjoy it now. I'll be too uncomfortable to sleep in a month or two. But this is nothing. Just a birthday treat." Peggy smiles to him, and it's not her lying or cover up smile. She genuinely means it. She was just passed out on the couch, after all, and she still looks tired. Making a baby is exhausting work.
Daniel Sousa "Alright," Daniel smiles "But make me a half cup anyhow so I don't fall asleep in my pie," Jetlag was no joke. "How have things been going?" he nods at her belly. "Our gir-kid doing okay?" he says correcting himself mid sentence. He still had his hopes but he tried not to let them show.
Peggy Carter As he asks that, and she slices out a piece of pie for him, sliding the plate across the counter, she looks back up to his dark eyes and tilts her head. "I'm fine. Really. Things are going... more than fine. I missed you, but one of us should get to go have fun, at least." She offers with a drowsy smile, picking up her own slice of pie.

"Do... do you really want to know, Daniel? Figure out if she's a girl or not? If you really want to, we can. We were surprised before. We can find out now. It won't bother me. We can go tomorrow, if you want."
Daniel Sousa Taking the slice Daniel says thanks before taking a bite. "Glad things are going alright, and the mission wasn't anything major but missed you too, don't worry just a few more months and you'll be back out there."

Shaking his head Daniel says, "I'm good with surprise, feels right not peeking, if you can wait to get back to the field, I can wait to find out what our kid is going to be."
Peggy Carter A slight grumble passes her lips as he mentions that she can wait to getting back to the field. Peggy shakes her head, "What if I got to do one mission and you got to have one peek, hmm? Would that be a fair trade?" She teases him lightly, knowing she really shouldn't now that she's quite obviously showing, but she misses it.

Just as she's about to turn and pull him into a kiss, the kettle starts going off. So, there's a quick peck to the corner of his mouth and she moves to pour the tea to brew instead.
