Gwen Stacy It has been a while since Gwen contacted MJ. Too long perhaps? At least certainly longer than the two had been apart back then ... But that felt like a universe away, literally. Was it guilt that kept Gwen from calling? That she wasn't exactly *this* Gwen even if she had the memories inside her head? In the same way that Gwen knew this wasn't the MJ she knew either, or at least not exactly.

Yet eventually does she find it within herself to send out a message. A call to meet.

> Hey, I am at Wong's working. Feel like coming over? We could go catch a bite after *bigburgeremoji* Dunno about you but I am ravenous!

There. Message sent. She puts the phone away just in time for Mrs. Wong to look at her with that judgemental gaze of hers. No phone play during work! Mrs. Wong is so old school...

Gwen lets out a sigh and goes to arrange a few shelves while she waits.
Mary Jane Watson Sometimes you just have to let things go on until they reach a point where you can't justify it to yourself anymore. Sometimes you just need to wait unitl you have to push back the point. And Mary Jane hasn't exactly been the type to maintain contact either. There's some confusion from her at the contact, but that quickly turns into a willingness to do so. It's just taken a bit of wobbling around with time to find one that's free for both.
So after some negotiation, MJ is dropping in. A large duffel bag over her back. Thanks to the weather, she's wearing jeans and a 'Spider-Man' t-shirt with Spidey drawn in a chibi style.
Gwen Stacy "Shop smart, shop Wong's Store!"

Gwen is just saying her goodbyes to a client when she spots MJ coming in. There's a wave from the blonde, a tentative smile following it along with a, "Hey.." trying to be casual. Maybe trying a bit too much. But then she brushes some hair from her face and her smile is more genuine, "I am glad you could come over." hands on her hips.

"I am nearly done, how have you been?" She asks her old friend before walking over to the other side of the counter and beginning to take off a large apron with the store logo on the front. Underneath she has jeans as well even if her shirt is more plain. Just black on white with some pink rims on the shoulders. So coincidentally similar to the colors of her Ghost Spider outfit!
Mary Jane Watson Better than the major retail chain that has a similar slogan, no doubt. Mary Jane would enter on in as the bell would ring and give a wave, "Hey Gwen, I'm.. Sorry it took me awhile to get back to you on when things would work out. Work keeps me pretty busy." Gwen knew what she did for a day job after all. And the complications that came with it.

"but pretty well all things considered. You done with your shift and getting off? Figured we could get a snack and some coffee if that's your thing and catchup. It's on me."
Gwen Stacy "It's fine. We got time now." Now that Gwen is back to life? She seems to instantly regretting saying that for if anything she has learned time is precious and she should make the most of it. One never knows tomorrow. "I should had called a longer time ago.." half-apology and half acknowledging she hasn't been exactly a good friend.

"And yea. SHIELD." She had heard about that indeed, "How is *that* going for you? Of everything I really hadn't expected to go into that line of work. But .., I suppose we have never been the type to go for the expected, mmm?"

"I am done, lets go." She then looking over to the back of the store, "I am going, Mrs. Wong. Have the rest of a good day." "You be careful, Gwen."

And then they are off. Gwen slips her hands into her pockets as they walk.
Mary Jane Watson Mary Jane Watson would shake her head, "That goes the same for me, Gwen. I'm sorry for not having put more effort into staying in touch. That's on me as well. So let's just call it mutual and that both of us have something to work a bit more on." The not being the best friend goes the same for her as well.
MJ would make a flourish of putting one finger to her lips in a playful 'shhh'. "That's gotta stay a secret. If you say it it doesn't work that way." She would tease as the two would walk.

"And life's been really weird the last couple years. I guess the same thing can be said for your's. Probably a lot more than mine."
Gwen Stacy "Oops, I have never been good with secrets..." Says the one that's Ghost Spider. Gwen winks back at MJ playfully though and nods, "I didn't know you were keeping that low a profile on being an Agent." her tone lower now as they walk along the street.

But then those last words out of MJ make her chuckle. "Please, lets not compare weirdness. We just have to take in the fact that we will never be normal. It doesn't help that we are friends with .., him." her eyes briefly trailing to the chibi Spidey on MJ's shirt before going back up to look at the other woman's face.

"But yea, it's .., I don't know. It's like I am living two intersecting lives. Sometimes I can still see the other place and..." she stops herself and shakes her head, ".. well, don't want the talk to get too heavy. Because there's burgers in our future." she points to a corner restaurant. "I sometimes come here for a bite after work. Best burgers in the Village!"
Mary Jane Watson Mary Jane Watson would smile, "Yeah, just some things we wanna keep to ourselves just a little bit. Or at least play make believe." She would quip over as the two went along. Mary Jane would glance at Gwen and then give her a bit of an elbow. Just a little more serious on that end. "It's a job, and it's one that's making a difference. I know it's not as big a thing.."

She would smile as the two would walk along the street, a teasing look in her eyes. "Well life's never normal for anyone. We just need to keep some level of standards to things. And I think among our network of friends that it's gotten downright competitive. Not a trophy I want to have." She would quip.

But as a redhead, something she might go for anyways just for the sake of appearances. "And it's fine. You're a friend, Gwen. Things are weird and complicated. Somteimes we just need to talk to distract ourselves. And let's go in." She would move to head in. "Works for me! And this is on me. Unlike most of our friends, I actually make enough to get by on."
Gwen Stacy "What do you mean not big a thing?" That has Gwen look at MJ more closely, "You don't think what you are doing is important enough?" some curiosity there on her tone, and concern, "I mean sure, it's not like we are the avengers but ..., we all do our part to make this a better world."

A moment later and she is laughing softly when MJ mentions their friends being competitive where it comes to weirdness, "What did Peter do this time?" because if anything they can always blame Peter for uh ..., anything? Though she is mostly teasing. Mostly. "Yea, you are right though.."

They walk into what's basically a small corner restaurant, not a big franchise, just some local burger place. She waves at the owner, clearly knowing him already. "Alright, on you then. I should tell you I have a biiiiig stomach though." which she does. Thanks to the little spider bite. "Oh, had I told you I might be going for an internship on Oscorp? Probably starting after vacations this year once school is done.."

What can go wrong?
Mary Jane Watson Mary Jane Watson would put her hands in her pocket, "It has it's own things inherent to it. Good and bad. I don't necessarily have all the choices I could make. But I also have a lot of support that you don't in your day job." She's keeping things rather general.

"And nothing! He's just being his usual eternally lucky self, for all that rubs off on the rest of us. I'm sure that he's been more than happy to give you his share if you're not feeling you have enough."

She would smile over at Gwen, "Nice place. Food smells great. You know here so you should know what to order." She would smile. "Internship! So let me guess, you'll be spending most of your time getting coffee and taking notes at meetings and making sure they have donuts while they talk about possibly giving you a job when it's over, not getting paid and juggling the job you have to actually pay the rent?"
Gwen Stacy "Well, you *chose* to join them. So that in itself means you believe it would be for the greater good, right?" Gwen smiles faintly at her friend and then at her suggestion that she knows what to eat (which she does!) Gwen does just that. "Hey, Fred? We will have a couple of the specials. Yes, the double burgers." no one is getting out of here hungry today apparently.

What's left afterwards? Finding a table, which Gwen does just that by leading them to a nice one on the side, near a window but not too close to many other people. She settles down, "And no way I want to get Peter's weirdness. I mean, I already got enough of it with ..., you know what.." being an actual Spiderwoman! "I haven't been the best of friends to him either though..." she admits. Maybe she just needed her distance.

"And nooooo, I am hoping to be working in the lab, doing research and ..." she lets out a sigh, ".. yea, most likely fetching coffees. Corporate life sucks..." she shaking her head, "I wasn't made for that..." eyes gaining a glimmer to them as she remembers something, "... should had went with our first idea of getting our band going, you know I wasn't a bad drummer and you sang..." she stops herself, confused.
Mary Jane Watson Mary Jane Watson would smile "We all do our bit. We all get out there and try to make things better the way we can. In small parts and big parts." She would bobble her head and smile. "And we do the best we can and no matter what gets in the way we resolve it and fail to keep our heads on straight during it. And do you want an extra of those for yourself?" Her gesturing over at the burgers in case Gwen wanted another double.

She would smile. "We all have really complicated lives, Gwen. We have to figure things out for ourselves. Peter knows we're out there and we care about him and we're doing all we can to help people out. That matters to him a lot. And we need to get our time to razz him." She would look at Gwen as the girl would go on. "That's what being an intern is like, Gwen. Hate to say it but what you want and what you get are two different things."

Then opening her mouth and looking at gwen, gesturing at her to continue. "I definitely can't carry a tune. Why I only do Shakespeare in the Park."
Gwen Stacy "Is that what it was like to you when you got into your job?" Gwen is curious now even as she shakes her head when MJ asks if she wants *another* double. "Hey, I want to walk home today, not roll home." she tells her, fingers then brushing a loose strand of blond hair back in place. She settles down on her chair and quirks a brow, "Damn, what happened to the idealistic MJ? I am sure there's still a place somewhere where we can get what we want ..." she lets out a wistful sigh.

The confusion that comes to her expression after those last words about the band quickly dissipate and she shakes her head to herself. "I was just ..., I got confused a moment there." lips press to a thin line and she is quiet for a bit before eventually speaking up again. "Shakespeare in the park?" that has her grinning. "That sounds like something I should go watch. What is your favorite play?" she then questions.
Mary Jane Watson Mary Jane Watson would smile, "Hey, what's things in life if you get whatever you want without putting in the effort? i'd say something about elbow grease but that's just asking for trouble." She would quip while looking at Gwen. "And you could probably just call a cab. I bet you can even find one that has a forklift."

MJ would nod, "All right>" her not pressing on it. If the blonde wanted to talk about it, she would. "Macbeth. Just as it has so many different changes from production to production and it can be carried so many different ways. Lady MacBeth.. Where she dramatically faints. Is it her playing to her role as part of the conspiracy? Or is it as she's shocked adn didn't expect her husband to go along with it or for it to work? Each production might have a different take. But it's not quite as universal as Romeo and Juliet. That will always be updated to new times and new values."
Gwen Stacy "A forklift?!" There's a faux-scandalized look on Gwen's expression when MJ suggests such, blue eyes widening just so in amusement, "Now you are just being mean. Are my hips big or something?" she taps on her sides as if checking but it's all good naturedly.

"Macbeth." She then chuckling at the choice but nodding understandingly, "I suppose I have always been a sucker for the classics like Romeo and Juliet.." she leaning in to speak in a lower tone, "... I even cried during Shakespeare in Love." the movie!

"Really glad to see things are popping up for you though."
Mary Jane Watson Mary Jane Watson would smile, "Yeah. Just star crossed lovers is an amazing, but also common thing. Tale as old as time and all. Sometimes you want something a little creatively different. It cna give you a chance to explore more, to consider more.. And to try and find ways to look for other creative takes. But, MacBeth is also very traditional for story hooks I guess. But, all stories have similarities and emotional arcs to them. That's what makes them have power."
