Stephanie Brown The Batwing makes a sudden dive from high altitude, plummeting straight towards the Atlantic Ocean far below. It pulls out of the death-defying dive at the last moment, pulling the nose up but using the elevator controls to hold the plane in that position with the wings rapidly bleeding off speed.

"Alright Master Grayson, we are at deployment altitude," Alfred says. The butler is behind the controls of the plane so the younger generation can carry out the training exercise.

Strapped beneath the Batwing in hardpoints for payload are underwater gear, including those scooters that divers use to get around quickly. Just waiting to be dropped into the water from the low altitude the Batwing is flying at.

Stephanie Brown is in an aquatic version of her Batgirl costume. She double checks her air supply, and the fins that she'll don once she's in the water. "Air, check," she says, the last thing on her checklist. "All ready to go!"
Damian Wayne     Today Damian is in a mood. He didn't want to come to this training but was guilted into it by Alfred who noted that last night at dinner he had thirds and probably should work those calories off. But in protest he's wearing a pair of swim trunks from Walmart that have a big Superman logo on the leg, a black "wet" shirt, and his underwater utility belt.

"If I get eaten by a shark, I will kill all of you," he grouses as he double checks his air supply and his fins.
Dick Grayson     Nightwing has on a helmet and fins, sealed to his armor. Apparently he's got all sorts of little tricks built into the new suit.

<< Ok Alfred, drop them. I'd rather not be under the rain of scooters. >>

Once the Batwing rocks a little from the weight release, he simply steps backwards out the door, going into a freefall position. About halfway down the wings deploy from the armored shell on his back and he glides down in a spiral, retracting the wings about twenty feet above the water and hitting it with only a minor splashing.

    << No worries, I've got the Bat-shark repellant. >>
Phoebe Beacon     Phoebe, meanwhile seemed thrilled to death at getting some training in with some of the others. She's all grins and nerves, her hair pulled back and braided in on itself as she adjusts her suit, giving a wry little grin to Damian as she shrugs, testing her own flippers.

"Besides, Sunny D -- more likely to be killed by Batcow than a shark!" she grins, and she goes out the door herself, following Nightwing's ... swim-suit.

Stephanie Brown Stephanie Brown walks over to Damian and says, "Let me apply some of that shark repellant for you." She opens up one of the equipment housing locations and pulls out a bottle of A1 steak sauce that she stuck there hoping for just this sort of moment. "Trust me, they'll just HATE you with this on you," she tells Damian as she shakes up the bottle before grinning at him.

The condiment is returned to where it came from, and then Batgirl deploys the covers on her cowl's eyeholes and makes it watertight, then moves over to the opening. She drops as well, falling with arms crossed and feet extended as she just free falls and then splooshes into the water like a cliff diver.

Underwater, the scooters and other gear are waiting for them, having already been set with a buoyancy to keep them underwater but near the surface. Stephanie gets her swim fins in place then uses her legs to propel herself over to one of the underwater scooters, concentrating on using a minimum of energy to save herself.

Alfred's voice comes over comms. <<I have deployed something at your destination that hopefully you will enjoy. I'll be in the area should I be needed before your completion.>>
Damian Wayne     As casually as someone out for a Sunday afternoon stroll, Damian walks out the plane and jumps. He is still adjusting his mask on the way down. He splooshes into the water athletically then inserts his mouthpiece. He swims over to the last remaining water vehicle. There is a decal of a shrimp on it.

<< Hilarious. >> One can practically hear him frowning. << So what's the op? >>

He starts checking the various controls on the vehicle.
Dick Grayson     Swimming over to one of the scooters, Nightwing takes the controls and waits for the others to all get one as well. That done, he looks around for the 'something' Alfred decided to add to the exercise.

<< Well, once we see what Alfred has decided to add to the day, I thought we could dive a little deeper, there should be a ship down there. Today is more to get acquainted with the equipment. Or brushing up skills if you already know how it all works. >>
Phoebe Beacon Phoebe gives a smile to Damian as she floats, grabbing onto her swim scooter, checking the equipment and then buzzing along after Nightwing and Batgirl.

<< Keep a weathered eye to the horizon!>> she calls back to Alfred, and she tests the velocity of her scooter a little, flitting over towards Damian and then back towards Dick and Stephanie. HEr dark eyes are positively alight with glee -- pretty much the opposite of the 'Little Brother'.

<<A Shipwreck? What year? What kind? >>
Stephanie Brown Stephanie Brown guides her underwater scooter over to a container holding other equipment. << We have demolition charges. Not live ones. And some equipment for salvaging a sunk vessel. The inflatable variety. >>

She starts pulling gear out, passing it out to others to be secured to their underwater sleds. << Oh here it is. Nice. >> Batgirl holds up a container that has a plastic cover on one side so they can see that within it is a meal of fried chicken and a few containers that must have side dishes in them. << For after the op I guess. >>

She stows that on her scooter, and then turns it to follow Nightwing's lead.
Damian Wayne     Damian throttles up his scooter and races forward at high speed toward a large school of fish. The fish disperse rapidly, like a living underwater explosion as the teen vigilante rockets through. Looks like occasionally he can be playful. With his Superman shorts, he almost looks like he's flying through the water as banks around in a wide arc to follow after Dick.
Dick Grayson     << It's an old World War Two destroyer. Probably sunk escorting a convoy. I figure we head down, practice placing the demo charges so we all have an idea what the more vulnerable areas of most ships are. I'd suggest some underwater combat practice, but I think I prefer doing that in a pool so that if someone loses oxygen, they aren't under a hundred feet of water.>>

He throttles up the scooter and aims it down towards the darker water of the depths. As the group heads towards the ocean floor, sunlight fades into a dim glow. At ninety feet, the ghostly hulk fades into view, festooned with seaweed and some fishing nets that wave gently in the water. A number of different fish dart away from the four, some vanishing into openings on the ship, others just dashing for open water.

<< The bottom is about a hundred feet, so we can't stay down for more than twenty minutes without decompressing on the way up. >>

He hands one of the inert charges to his brother and gestures at the wreck, saying << I'm fairly certain your training included this kind of thing, so show us where that thing would do it's best work. >>
Phoebe Beacon     Phoebe is a bit quieter, though she keeps a mindful eye to Damian as he scatters a school of fish, watching the blue and silver explosion. She minds the dummy charges as if they were life, and makes sure everything is tethered well to the sled before she takes up a little more speed.

She stays closer, more for her benefit than anything else; this is her first underwater training that didn't involve the Outsiders pool, her gray suit dappling with the sunlight through the waves.

<<Dibs on the green beans and potatoes. You all can split my share of the chicken.>> she gives a wry grin, and they continue down to the dim depths, hundred feet down. She can feel the pressure on ehr body, and she stretches her hands every couple of minutes as they go, pausing to take in the fish that they pass.

She strays just a little from the course, looking out for any looming shadows.

... you know. Sea serpents. Sirens. Bruce.
Stephanie Brown The quartet of underwater scooters glide quietly down into the depths. It could be eerie or gloomy. If they didn't have Stephanie telling jokes over the comms. << So this diver runs into a salmon and they start talking. He tells the fish, you know, we named a color after you. And the salmon gets excited and says, really, so it's beautiful blue like my scales? The diver replied, uh... not... really. >>

After a pause, << Ok that worked better as a meme than a joke. >>

As the sunken World War II vessel comes into sight, Stephanie guides her sled around it, illuminating it with a light. << Looks like it got torpedoed. Darn Germans. >>
Damian Wayne     Damian's scooter pulls ahead and moves directly toward the center of the ship. << A lot of people think you're trying to blow a hole in the ship. You're not. Want to place the explosive mid-keel with the explosion aimed downward. The idea is to displace as much water under the ship as possible so the keel cracks. >>

The teen vigilante releases his scooter and swims lithely to that sweet spot on the keel, bubbles trailing out calmly behind him as he swims. He attaches the dummy charge so it will blow downward, sets the timer for 30 seconds, then grabs his scooter and speeds away from the about-to-be-doomed-again vessel.
Dick Grayson     << Now if you're going for a disable rather than sinking the thing, the propellers and rudder are all good targets. >>

He swims to the rear of the ship and points out some of the weaker points on the propulsion systems. << No rudder, ship can't steer. No propellers, ship can't move. Of course, this is all when the ship isn't moving. I hope I don't have to point out that you get nowhere near the props when a ship is moving. >>

He checks the timer on his wrist display before continuing << Phoebe, give it a try. You never know what you might have to do on a mission. >>
Phoebe Beacon     Phoebe is trying not to laugh at Stephanie. Those slightly muffled snorts are 02 issues, really, because obviously she doesn't meme, but there's a squeak of 'but why is it pink?' that comes over her com, and then the sombering look at the ship before them. All the people who could have been lost onboard.

There's a couple of moments as she watches Damian move to sink the boat.. <<Makes sense. Especially larger boats with the tendency to crack in half.>> she remarks, and at Dick's command, she gives a nod. Never when the ship is moving.

She sweeps in on her little scooter, steering with one hand as she readies her dummy bomb in the other, coming in from upside-down and behind the propellers to stick the bomb to the rudder, sets the timer for thirty-five seconds, and amscrays towards the back.
Stephanie Brown Stephanie Brown continues to hover nearby as first one dummy charge, and then the other is delivered to the sunken ship. << Nicely done Balm >> she says after Phoebe has planted hers.

<< Of course with our luck there isn't much chance it will not be moving >> Stephanie adds. << Though the two man sub would be a better choice if that was the case. Orphan and I took that down really deep one time with Aquaman and Wonder Woman. You wouldn't believe the crazy stuff down there at those depths. Amazing what the Atlantians have kept underwraps from the oceanologists. >>
Damian Wayne     Damian brings his scooter to a stop and floats there, observing. Bubbles rise from his breather apparatus and for a moment he seems almost...peaceful. His finned feet occasionally flutter gently so he can hover in place. He murmurs something softly but the comm system can't pick up the words.
Dick Grayson     << Yeah, including themselves for a good long while. I still want to visit, but with the problems between Arthur and Namor it doesn't seem like a great time to sightsee.>>

While everyone watches Phoebe and Steph, further up the hull one tentacle, then another and another creep out of a crack in the hull. Finally the cephalopod's head squeezes out and it silently jets into the open water. It moves fluidly, approaching the group from behind, closest to Damian as he watches the training.

As it draws near, it's tentacles spread wide and then strike!

At the idly waving fin on his foot.

Apparently, this kraken has a little growing up to do, as this one measures perhaps ten inches across at full spread. It does appear to be attempting to be a vicious fin slayer at the moment, but failing a bit as it can't get a good bite into the smooth rubber.
Phoebe Beacon     <<I haven't made their acquaintence yet. I've met Aqualad in passing, but I assume he takes a little while to warm up to someone..>> Phoebe remarks quietly as she rejoins the group, taking a deep breath to try and stretch her lungs, rolling her shoulders a bit in the gloom as she tilts her head a moment. <<So. Do the charges make sounds or something? Or just alert when the timer goes off against the dominos?>> she questions, looking to Steph, Dick and Damian each for guidance before she double-takes at Damian's new friend.
Stephanie Brown The timers on the two charges count down before anyone can answer Phoebe's answer. But she gets her answer then as there is a little flash of LED strobe light from each, and then a cloud of bubbles is released. As they rise and gradually spread out, slowly rising within each cloud of bubbles can be seen a little banner that says, "Boom".

Stephanie grins and takes her underwater sled in close to the hull then to examine the hull that caused the ship to sink originally. The smile is gone soon, faced with the somber reality that people died at the site of the torpedo strike, and others probably drowned or maybe died fighting fires caused by the hit.
Damian Wayne     Damian feels something down at his foot. He glances down as sees the mini-kraken attempting to consume him. He falls in love instantly. He reaches down and plucks the beastie off his foot and holds the creature up, observing it. It wriggles a bit, struggles a little, then SPLOOSH the entire area immediately around Damian suddenly fills with ink. The offending sea monster streaks down to hide among the rocks.

<< I want one! >> comes Damian's comm signal from amidst the dark, billowing ink cloud.
Dick Grayson After fighting off the giggle fit he had once he turned around and saw what was going on, Dick's voice still has an edge of laughter to it as he consults the timer again.

<< Time for us to head up. >>

He collects the training charges and gets everyone headed up to the surface, trailing behind the group to make sure everyone gets to the surface safely.

<< We're headed up Alfred, swing around and pick us up if you would be so kind. >>

Once everyone and the equipment has been winched into the Batwing, Dick takes a seat facing the others. "Ok, that was good. Phoebe, good work in general, some people get a little freaked out when they get deep enough that they can't see the surface. Next time, we'll work on some underwater combat training in the pool. For now, let's get home and dry off. We'll eat out since we already made Alfred play pilot today."
Phoebe Beacon     Pheobe gives a wry little smile, drawing back a little bit as the ink billows.

"Well, get kraken on it then, Sunny-D." Phoebe's domino transmits a :D :D :D at the stupid joke.

Slowly, to re-pressureize -- depressurize -- well, they make their way up. Phoebe is a bit more quiet.

And upon getting back to the Batwing, Phoebe takes off her gear in a bit of a hurry She throws her head back, takes a deep breath and replies:

"... look, my first meeting was putting guts back into someone's stomach, I've learned how to freak out very quietly under Red Robin's tutilage." she breathes out, and then sinks down to her knees.
