Owner Pose
Cael Becker     It's afternoon, and Cael is sitting on the couch, staring at her computer screen with a thoughtful frown on her features. Sitting next to her, open for no apparent reason (since nothing appears to be broken) is Alis's tool box, all the tools inside neatly stored and organized in a way that made the most sense only to Alis herself - and which Cael was careful to meticulously maintain. Lying at Cael's feet, his stuffed bunny looking increasingly tatty, is Bear, his eyes sleepy and tired.
Sara Pezzini Today was one of those days in which Sara had a little extra time, see also, mandatory day off. Since taking on the Special Investigations Unit, her old Captain was riding her harder than ever to maintain her own sanity by remembering to take days off. She didn't have to be at the center of everything all the time, and everyone had her number, so she had gone out in the morning to get her hair trimmed.

Unlocking the door she slips back into the apartment, closing the door behind her. The hair style was the same, just trimmed. Setting her helmet by the front door, she headed into the living room.

"I think Bear needs a new toy or five," she comments, setting a to-go bag from the noodle place on the table.
Cael Becker     "I'll see if I can find him another of the same rabbit. He loves the damned thing so much," Cael says in a casual, relaxed tone. "How's your day been?" she asks, flashing her roommate a brief smile. Even half asleep - Bear's tail thumps a few times on the floor as Sara enters - his gaze following her without lifting his head from the floor.
"Life as a dog is hard. Lady tuckered him out," she remarks in an amused voice. She takes a deep breath in of the scent of the noodles before asking in a curious voice, "Usual, standing order?" She closes her computer - then reaches over to close the tool chest as well - her hand lingering there for a long moment.
Sara Pezzini Removing the containers from the bag, along with the chopsticks and a thermos of tea, Sara then moves over to give Bear a large number of scritches and pets. "Yeah, I know what you like from that place," comes her answer about the food. "I think PetSmart still has some of those rabbits in stock, which is on my way to work, so I'll check tomorrow."

Finishing up the Bear love, she stands back up and adds, "As for my day... I hate it, but it's good for my mental health." She snorts, then walks back to the table.

After a moment she gestures toward the tool box as she asks, "You alright?"
Cael Becker     "I'm good," Cael answers. "I just... I had an idea. I was talking with Agnes, but remembering Alis, and I was saying that- I mean, I wished more people knew her, remembered her, //missed// her. That it wasn't fair she never had a chance to make a mark on the world, and I had the idea for a Memorial. The Alis Swain Memorial Mechanical Apprenticeship - or something like that. Finding teens who're getting in trouble with the law, getting involved in Organized Crime, and offering them a supervised Apprenticeship and parole, paid, instead of prison time."
Sara Pezzini Sara blinks a few times as she plops in the chair, listening to Cael's thoughts and sort of nodding along.

"That would be a big undertaking," she says softly, running her tongue over her bottom lip as her brain starts to swing into action. "Juvenile's have a better at qualifying for sponsored paroles, depending on the crime of course. But yeah... I mean, that sounds like a fantastic idea Cael."

Opening the thermos, she pours the oolong tea into each cup, then sets it down. "How can I help? I know a number of juvenile lawyers that would /love/ something like this, and might be willing to help get it off the ground."
Cael Becker     "Jon plans on connecting me with some of his friends who might be able to help fund it - make sure that there is PAY for these kids. Plus, I want to make sure they have access to mental health services.I think that needs to be mandatory if they're going to succeed. He thinks Tim Drake - with the Waynes - might be interested," Cael explains, tapping her foot in her excitement as she talks. "Getting in touch with some lawyers would definitely help. It's... it's going to be hard to get this off the ground, but- it's important. And it gives me a way to still help some of these kids. And... it keeps her name alive. I need this to work," she remarks with an almost desperate edge.
"Ultimately, we need to get the DA onboard. We need some sort of research that this will WORK - that these kids will be more likely to be productive members of society. That it helps their families and their neighborhoods. There's - God, it's going to be a lot. //A lot// - I know that. I'll need to find someone who has experience getting a program like this off the ground. I- But it has to work, Sara. It has to." She takes a deep breath, and finally pulls her noodles towards herself, focusing on that instead, for a moment.
Sara Pezzini Sara has known Cael for little over a year, and in all that time she had never heard Cael say that many words in one go, or at least that's what it felt like in that moment. She understood the emotions behind this idea, the importance and the desperation that fueled it.

"Hey, easy," she almost soothed. "It /will/ work. There are lots of programs out there for adults, even a few for specific subsets of teens, we just have to take it step by step and make sure all the requirements are met. Money, state approval, DA approval, a location, mentors... but it will happen."
Cael Becker     "I'll talk to Robbie," Cael supplies. "I mean. He must know other people in the industry. We can start getting a list of shops that would be willing to host an apprentice. And we'll start off here in New York, but ultimately..." Cael looks from her noodles, and then back towards Sara. "I want to do this in Phoenix." She takes a deep breath in, and lets out a sigh, before she starts to eat. "Anyways. That's- I mean, I barely just had the idea, but..." It's obvious she's //excited// about it, to say the least.
After another bite she adds without looking towards Sara, "And Jon wants me to sign a lease on a three bedroom."
Sara Pezzini Opening her container of noodles, Sara stirs them around a little then opens a smaller container with three dumplings in it. Two go into the broth with her noodles, the third is given to Bear.

"Apartment, not a house?" she asks first, that part being what shocked her most, then she cools her jets again.

"I have a contact in Phoenix when the time to move there with the project happens," she adds. "Old friend of my dad's, he's retired now, same former officer who helped me get the information on the Alhambras. It's a wonderful plan Cael, it really is. More people should step up and help like this, getting to the goal will be difficult but the rewards will be worth it."

She takes a bite of her noodles, enjoying the flavor before finally swallowing to say, "I figured the three bedroom idea would work."
Cael Becker     "Apartment," Cael confirms. "Had to talk to Agnes first and make sure she, uhh, was really okay with it. She... says she doesn't mind moving again, even so soon. She says she's excited about it. Guess the kid likes me alright?" she remarks in a wry tone, stiring her noodles with her fork before taking another bite.
"If it only helps one kid - it'll be worth it. But I think it'll help a lot more than that. And I mean - it doesn't //need// to be just teens I guess? But- ...Alis was a teen. And the sooner we can get to them, the better outcome we'll have so- teens. Maybe some young adults. You know?" She frowns slightly. "I'll have to go through what photos I have of her... I imagine we'll need some good images of her for like... press releases, and promotional stuff, and all that - when we get that far."
Sara Pezzini Once the little dumpling has soaked up a bit of the broth from her noodles, Sara sets it on the lid of the container to cool. The other one she picks up and takes a bite of, clearly she has plans for the cooling dumpling.

"I feel like this is another 'told you so' moment, but really it's just too easy," she comments with a grin, once the bite is swallowed. "Three bedroom apartment, and Agnes actually likes you, I swear... it's like I might know something."

Adjusting herself in the chair, she crosses her legs up into the chair with her. "This program will help more than one kid," she then says, switching back to the main topic. "You'll have extreme troubles getting eighteen or older approved for no jail time, but they could become eligible once they are released."

Picking the dumpling up off the lid she blows on it a little and promptly feeds it to Bear. "You can look through all the pictures, even those that are recent," she continues. "Digital aging is far easier to fake than paper photos."
Cael Becker     "Yeah, well. ...I'd be lying if I said I wasn't at least a little bit scared. I'll, umm- I plan on keeping my room here. For now - wouldn't want to leave you in the lurch or anything, and- well." Cael feels better having somewhere else to retreat to. "I think it'll be good, though?" But it's a lot - and it leaves her a bit anxious.
"Anyways." She takes another bite of her noodles, swallowing. "I'm glad you like the idea, too. It's not just- me being crazy, or Jon's opinion being clouded by... what he thinks of me. Or trying to humor me. Or... whatever."
Sara Pezzini Sara reaches over and gives Cael's shoulder a light squeeze. "You wouldn't be leaving me in a lurch, but the room is yours for as long as you want it," she offers with a smile.

"Why do you think Jon's opinion is clouded or that he's humoring you? Cael... it /is/ a good idea. It'll take work, but it's a good idea and it's worth it."
Cael Becker     "Well. I'm not exactly unbiased here - and might not have the clearest thinking. Jon, uhh... Knows how important this is to me. I don't know that they could bear to tell me if they thought I was being ridiclous," Cael admits with a wry smile. "The fact that you say it's a good idea too... Makes it a lot more likely I'm onto something."
She takes a deep breath in - and lets it out slowly before adding, "God - I'm going to have to write a grant proposal. And... find data and research that backs up the effectiveness of this kind of intervention. And- it's going to be a lot, huh?" Goodbye free time.
Sara Pezzini Sara shrugs slightly, taking another bite of her noodles before a sip of the oolong tea.

"I'll help," she offers. "I can access parole programs on the NYPD computers, since everyone on parole is listed. At least can get you a list to begin the full research with."

"In regards to Jon," she continues. "Do you think that in humoring you, he'd lie to you? I mean, if he knows how important this is to your or not, would he be telling you he likes the idea, if he really didn't? I don't think so. I think he'd find a way to tell you his true opinion, which I'm pretty sure he already did."
Cael Becker     "Well," Cael lets out a quiet laugh, "They couldn't lie even if they wanted to. God, I've seen them try. Ma'at won't let them. But... Doesn't mean they need to tell the //whole// truth. Doesn't mean they don't sometimes... lie to themselves. So... yeah. Just because Jon says it's a good idea..." Doesn't mean it is.
"I'll take //any// help. But I know you have a lot on your plate already - so don't push yourself too far, yeah?" She insists, flashing Sara a brief smile.
"...wish I could've had this idea while Alis was still here - or... that I could have some way to tell her. She'd like the idea. Not... sure she'd be as thrilled about having her name and picture slapped onto it. But the //idea//... she'd like. You know?"
Sara Pezzini "The idea of heaven, at last we could have believed she'd see and know," Sara snorts with a chuckle. "But I doubt Du'at gets messages from the living."

Another couple of bites are taken, with a stir in between to find the best parts. "It's a good idea," she repeats, taking a drink of tea and sitting back. "As for my plate... I know what time I have and don't have. I took today off, could use that time in anyway I want. Got my hair cut, got us noodles, plan to do a work out later," she grins. "Maybe I'll just swing by the office and get that list for you."
Cael Becker     "I dunno," Cael replies - her tone quiet and thoughtful. "Agnes said something about... the... akh? being able to come back and visit the woman. Something about.... uhh..." What words had Agnes used? "The personality, and the spark. The spark of life - they combine and make the akh, which goes to the Field of Reeds and then- they can visit, and be prayed to. So. ... maybe there is some way, that even if we can't perceive her - that maybe she can see and hear us. That maybe she... can know." She doesn't look at all certain, though.
"I'd like to believe that she can. I guess I'll find out someday - when I get there myself."
After another bite of noodles - making an appreciative sound as she gets a nice chunk of beef with it - she adds, "I could use a good workout myself. Had pancakes and eggs and toast with Jon and Agnes earlier..." It was a pretty heavy meal.
Sara Pezzini Sara listens to Cael explain how it might be possible for Alis to see and hear them, instantly getting a mental image of Alis screaming at Cael for one reason or another, likely over the nervousness of moving in with Jon and Agnes. It makes her smile wistfully, remembering how Alis was always poking Cael to do things, get out there, be involved, stop being a grinch.... sometimes even when Cael wasn't there to hear it.

"Let's go a head and believe she can," she says softly. "I didn't know that was possible, but I know nothing about Du'at. So if Agnes says there's a possibility, I'm gonna go with that."

Hearing what Cael had for breakfast, she starts chuckling, "Oh you are so working out with me today after that. I have an english muffin with an egg on it... pancakes, eggs, /and/ toast? You're going to get fat."
Cael Becker     "I made her some promises - and I'm trying to keep them. I'm- I'm trying," Cael murmurs, her gaze fixed down on her noodles. She reaches up with one hand to wipe it across her eyes, trying to calm the rush of grief that still comes at her in unexpected waves.
"Anyways. ...yeah. We can bring Bear and go on a bit of a jog," she suggests. "And maybe do some sparring. I'll try not to kick your ass too badly - I know you have your dignity to maintain," she teases.
Sara Pezzini Finishing one more bite of the noodles, Sara puts the lid back on. She'll eat the rest for dinner, with a salad or something. "Honestly Cael, I think you're keeping your promises just fine," she says softly as she stands up. "Nothing happens over night, except sleep, so give yourself some credit."

Heading to the kitchen she tosses over her shoulder, "Why thank you super Cael, we can't have me looking bad in the press these days, so only a few bruises, alright?"
Cael Becker     "Hey, if I can toss Cap around..." Cael remarks with an amused smile. Her fighting techniques were better than Cap's these days. Of course - if he were fighting with his full strength, he'd only have to land a single solid punch to end the fight. After a last bite of her noodles, she starts packing up her food as well. "I'll get changes and we can head out," she calls easily, before putting her words to action.
