Lara Croft     Lara sprints through the darkness. She was absolutely right. That WAS an ancient, alien artifact that the aztecs erected this small temple around. She has never been more upset that she was right, as it seems to still be operational. Ducking and weaving through the remnants of traps she had to get past to get in. This wasn't some superstitious belief keeping people at bay. Flashes of light vaporizing hanging vines and wet moss clinging to walls was a much more real danger than just a space rock having fallen from the sky. Lara dives into the jungle, the alien war machine (or whatever it was) cutting swaths across the temple's insides. Vapor, steam, and dust filled the air as Lara tucked and rolled, trying to lose the thing in the jungle trees.
John Stewart It isn't often that someone random is being.... hit by light? Lasers were a thing, but usually in tech labs or in industry.

<<Status report: Human female under attack by cohesive light. Recommend investigation. Intervention may be necessary.>> The Power Ring tells John as he flies over South America.

Up above, John is not subtle at all as he flies lower to the jungle, his flight field easily seen against the sky as he moves in Lara's direction.
Lara Croft     Lara reloads her pistol. She has emptied it in a vain attempt to destroy the laser-firing floaty orb thing in the temple/tomb. After a bit of a swim, she climbs from the water and hides in thick foliage. Insects are the least of her worries...diseases might be a close second after that thing there. Looking up, she spots the undeniable signs of the green lantern. She debates firing up to get his attention, but soon, she doesn't need to. The alien artifact blasts that high energy particle beam at the Lantern Core's closest representitive.
John Stewart Huh... that's firing at some-

<<Incoming particle beam from 6 o clock>> John already saw it coming though, and that Green field around him suddenly flares in brightness as he Wills a defensive shield into being around himself to stave it off.

"That's tech beyond the usual. Someones hiding out here..." John mutters as he starts to slowly float towards the beam source.

If he's being attacked, whoever it is below is safe... so he remains an obvious target.
Lara Croft     The beam was a lot stronger than the laser Lara had to deal with. In the sunlight, the orb seems to be getting stronger. It flies up toward the sky as it continues to fire energy blasts toward the green lantern. Lara shouts out, "Hey!" She fires at the thing again, and with no outright hostility from the Green Lantern, as the bullet pings off its hull, the orb seems to drop in a parabolic arc. It slows near the ground and fires a blast into the forest. Fires start, but aren't bad, given how wet everything is.
John Stewart Right. This is getting out of hand. The woman can wait.

One moment he's there... another, he's just /gone/ as he flies right up to the artifact and starts to fly around it at an angle that forces it to fire into the sky. Less fires.

Meanwhile, he aims his ring at the thing, trying to scan it for it's energy source.
Lara Croft     That thing is definitely not of Earth manufacture. It's old. Not one of the major powers of right now. It's sapping energy from the sun in a similar manner to a Kryptonian. It also seems to be omnidirectional, able to fire basically any direction it wants with what seems to be a beam of amplified cosmic radiation. It's not a LASER, it's a MASER. Well, there's definitely light being amplified, here, too, which is the reason for the visual component. Any EM radiation is manipulated by this thing, as well as gravity.
John Stewart Yeah, no way to disable this thing, so he's gonna have to destroy it.

As he aims his ring, he WIlls a gigantic hammer into his hands and flies right above the artifact. Within moments, he's slamming that hammer down directly from above onto the weapon. Hard. Over and over.
Lara Croft     That's a lot more effective than small arms fire. Shards of antique, priceless metal bounce free from the hammer's striking surface and soon, the alien probe from that long-dead civilization is bits of unrecognizable slag, burning itself out as regulators failed. No way to reverse engineer it now.
Lara waits until the banging is over, then steps out from her cover. She lets her pistol dangle from her finger by the trigger guard, both her hands up. She walks in slow, deliberate movements. "Hey, there," she says.
John Stewart Now that he's stopped in midair and his defensive shield winks out of existance, Lara can finally see the man himself. Dressed in a green and black uniform with the Green Lantern symbol on his chest, the only 'masking' he has is a visible glow to his eyes that obscures the eyes themselves... but otherwise, he's a bald black man with his arms crossed. Fairly handsome. "Fancy tech." He glances to the destroyed weapon, then back to Lara, "Interesting structure. If I had to guess, some asshole aliens decided this would be a good defense system."

He floats down in front of Lara. Not touching the ground, but on level with her, "John Stewart, Green Lantern." He offers a hand for a handshake.
Lara Croft     Lara holsters her pistol and shakes his hand. "Lara Croft," she says. "SHIELD." She gestures at the destroyed slag and metal shards. "I found this in a gold box. Solid gold, not just gold plated. I think it was acting like a farraday cage."
