Sara Pezzini In the city of New York, there were hundreds of police stations with thousands of officers working day and night. Naturally when a new unit is formed there is some press, and for the Special Investigations Unit that press was one media release, because really 1 Police Plaza didn't want the citizens of New York asking too many questions about /what/ the SIU was for.

Shoved into the top most floor of Brooklyn Precinct 78, which was three offices and one larger gathering room, Sara Pezzini found herself in charge of the unit almost the exact day she admitted to the world she was Witchblade, and part of the Avengers. On her plate was the task of finding officers willing to fill the ranks, because as of right now it was her, one other detective and about five rookies in training.
Sam Guthrie Sam Guthrie had gotten the email but originally had set it aside. His fiancee knew he was a hero but being a cop had worried her. That was before the world had seen it was time for them to not be engaged anymore. So he came across the email again while setting up his new computer back at the mansion. What the heck it won't hurt to check it out and he is looking for things to keep him busy and whats better than helping people. So, Sam inquired about a meeting to learn more. This brings us to Sam in grey dress pants and purple button up shirt walking into the station. after asking which way he will head to the SUI offices looking about as he does.
Sara Pezzini In the middle of the larger meeting room is a table meant to seat eight people, but presently there are only five chairs and none of them match. Two look like that might have been part of a set at some time, but duct tape is holding the back on one now. Clearly this space was never meant to be anything more than a few offices, but the precinct was doing its best to make due for now.

Sara sits at the table with a laptop computer in front of her. Today she wears a pair of black slacks, a deep green sleeves turtleneck shirt in cotten, and her black hiking boots. On the back of her is a leather jacket that is used to conceal her side arm in the shoulder holster.

Anther man walks through the room, him wearing a suit, and right before walking into an office says, "Pezzini, visitor." then steps into the office and shuts the door.

Looking up, her chestnut hair falls in her face, so she reache with her right hand to run her finger through it and push it back.

"Afternoon," she offers as she stands. "You must be Guthrie, correct?"
Sam Guthrie Sam Guthrie nods his head a bit to the woman, as he steps up "Yes Ma'am" the young man says his accent may not be as strong as it was when he first got to New York, but it is still distinctive and tells he is not originally a local." He will step forward, and offers his hand in a firm handshake in greeting "Ah am Sam Guthrie, cadet number 384957" He says giving his identification number to prove he is he. "Sorry it took a bit to get back to you, but to be honest, Ah was not sure if Ah was going to go through with becoming an officer. Heck to be honest still undecided, but am wanting to hear what your unit is going to be about to see if it will help me make up my mind."
Sara Pezzini Sara takes the offered hand for a shake, not one of those firm grips with the intent to show power and authority, just a nice grip of welcome. Once she takes her hand back, she gestures toward the chair near the one she has claimed.

"Go a head and take a seat," she states with a smile. "I'm Detective Sara Pezzini, feel free to just call me Sara. I don't stand on ceremony, takes too much time."

Settling back into her chair, she folds her hand in her lap, making sure her body is turned more toward him, while keeping her blue eyes on his face. "What made you decide to check out the unit?" She then asks simply. "If you weren't certain before, and still aren't, what are you hoping to find?"
Sam Guthrie Sam Guthrie will move to have a seat, and nods to her listening. He takes a moment to decide what he wants to say and after a moment of reflecting he says "Had someone in my life who was worried about me being a police officer. " He sighs a moment, and says "Ah am not in that relationship now, and am trying to decide what path Ah plan to go forward with." He will run a hand through his hair and says "Ah still like the idea of helping folks, and all, but Ah am living outside of the city proper, but can get here quick enough the commute is not to bad.
Sara Pezzini "I see," Sara offers softly, a touch of sympathy in her tone. There was no way she was going to pry into private business, but it did give her the answer she was seeking.

"My entire childhood was about becoming a cop," she then offers. "My father was a beat cop, never wanted to become a detective, but it was also my calling, so I get the wanting to help people."

The man that passed through before opens the door of the office and steps into the room again, this time he pauses to say, "Getting coffee from Judy's Cafe, would either of you like some?"

Sara nods to him then looks to Sam with a, "Just let him know if you want some as well, and how you like it." Then she goes back to talking about the unit itself.

"There have been two alien invasions, as well as an angelic invasion, in New York," is her starting line. "Both times the NYPD had no one who could really do anything, so they stuck to helping with evacuating people and traffic control. Sure, the Avengers and SHIELD were on hand to deal with it all, but the truth is the NYPD lacks in that area. Not every case of a demon or magic user, mutant or singular alien breaking laws should require a call to SHIELD or the Avengers. That's where the Special Investigations Unit comes in."
Sam Guthrie Sam Guthrie looks over and says "I'm good thank you, sir." He says to the officer. He nods his head a bit to this and says "Yes, we took some folks upstate to help keep them safe during the last invasion." He looks to her, and says "Will be honest, I did look you up, before the meeting, so will ask, are you hoping to find others with powers, or magic and experience in dealing with it?" He hmmms a moment and says "If Ah may ask, what are you specifically looking for in recruits, and anything your looking to make sure they don't have?"
Sara Pezzini A smile plays across Sara's lips. Her record with the NYPD has only one bad mark on it, but that was due to an Internal Affairs officer with a serious hard on for her. As for her being the Wielder of the Witchblade, that was in fact the newest entry in her open to the public files.

"Smart too look up the officer making the call," she states, smile broadening into a grin. "I hope I past muster."

The man offers a nod to Sam, then to Sara before heading down the stairs.

"1 Police Plaza agreed to form this unit, despite not fully understanding all that entailed, then very calmly informed me I would be leading it." She snorts softly, more amused by that than anything else. "So what I'm looking for are cadets, rookies, and officers who won't freak out the first sign of something they've never seen before. Part of that will be covered in the training, as there is a three months training program to go along with this job."

Sitting back slightly in the chair, she crosses her right leg over the left. "If people have powers of their own, that's just as welcome as those who don't, but one requirement /all/ have to have is acceptance of each other. I hear one 'freak' or 'monster' comment and I'll throw their asses back into the normal squad room."
Sam Guthrie Sam Guthrie nods his head a bit to this and says "And if someone was to have powers but not want them on their public record could that be handled or do they have to be public about them? Ah know if they end up having to use them on the job it will come out, well depending on the abilities, but Ah could see someone trying to not use their powers unless they have to, maybe not to protect themselves but protect others."
Sara Pezzini A single brow lifts before Sara uncrosses her leg and leans slightly forward.

"I worked on the force for three years without anyone knowing about the Witchblade. If someone wants to keep their powers off the permanent record, I have no issues with that." She states, watching his eyes. "I however, would prefer to know before hand so that I can help keep it off the permanent record, including those times that they might end up used in the field."

Her head cants slightly, "I get wanting to keep it secret, in this world especially. Sickens me that people, good people, have to hide who and what they are just to have some attempt at a normal life. We should all get normal lives, whether we can use magic, wield a magical artifact, are a mutant or alien... it's our right."
Sam Guthrie Sam Guthrie looks to the woman and towards the door. He seems to consider things a bit and says "I have worked for a few years with a group similar to the other group you work with. It is one that is a bit less public than yours, but does things much like, and have a few connections between the two. I don't know if you happen to know Dr. McCoy?" He asks keeping things still a bit vague/
Sara Pezzini Noting he is looking around, Sara sits back in the chair as she says, "There's no one else here right now, you can speak freely. If you'd prefer, we can do into one of the offices."

With that out there, she has to think a moment. She's heard the name, but that's about it that she can recall. Since he appears to be worried about information going in directions it shouldn't, she lowers her voice as she speaks.

"I seem to recall a Dr. Hank McCoy being talked about among the Avengers, but I haven't met him personally. I do know he's a blue fur covered mutant however, if that's what you were partly referring to."
Sam Guthrie Sam Guthrie nods his head a bit to this and says "Ah have a bit in common, but Ah am not blur or furry, but when Ah use my abilities, they are quite loud and showy," he admits. With that being said Ah would show them to you if Ah end up part of the unit, just need to go somewhere a bit more open for that, Flight is part of them." He figures he can tell her that.
Sara Pezzini He will note that Sara doesn't rush to take any notes, that at that moment she does in fact close her laptop to show him she doesn't intend to enter anything.

"This stays between us," she says calmly. "Whether you join the unit or not, my lips are sealed."

Another soft smile spreads on her face, "I know a few places that might work for showing off what you can do, but that's completely and entirely your choice to make. If you would rather leave it at what you've said, I will endeavor to work with that knowledge and possibly learn more as time passes... that is, if you decide to join the unit."

Quite suddenly she just stops talking and holds up one hand to indicate he should not speak for a moment. Her eyes turn to look toward the stairs and it is another full minute before the man comes up the stairs again, sets a large coffee on the table by Sara, then returns to his office with just a slight nod toward Sam. She knew he was coming.

Once the door is closed, she lowers her hand and looks back to him again. "That's Detetive John Moore, he's seen some shit in his life, but I told you this was between you and me, and I intend to keep it that way." She states, voice once again low. "I feel I should also let you know that you are welcome to give it all a try and decide later it's not for you, if you'd like to go that route."
Sam Guthrie Sam Guthrie nods a bit and says "That seems workable, Ah don't want you to waste resources but got a feeling most of the training Ah maybe a bit beyond already." He looks to her, and says "And if Ah may ask, whats the policy of having a second job? Ah work at a bar and have been thinking about picking up a couple shifts at another."
Sara Pezzini "My hope is to gain enough officers willing to face the truly strange and messed up shit, that it won't require them all to be on duty seven days a week," Sara replies. "That said however, if you have another job, we can always arrange for a part-time thing if that's what you need."

Picking up the coffee, she takes a small sniff at it to make sure he got it right, then a small sip. "You're probably right that you've seen more than the average officer has, but it's also partly team building. I already know that two of the officers who have signed up for the training will be noping out in the first week, but they say that they have the stones for it."
Sam Guthrie Sam Guthrie nods, and says "Unless something comes up beyond my control, Ah would be there." He offers to her and nods a bit and says "Ah think Ah am willing to sign up at least as part time, someone who can be called in when needed as well, as putting some hours in on the job in normal times as well."
Sara Pezzini That smile returns to Sara's face as she says, "Excellent!" far too eagerly, then she reigns it in when she continues.

"Sorry about that, just pleased you're willing to give it a try. I'm hoping to also use the unit as a way to convince more people with abilities and powers to go to the academy. We'll have to see how that goes though."

Leaning back in the chair, up onto two legs, she reaches to grab a folder from a table behind her, then rights the chair. "This is your standard application form, I'm sure you've seen one just like it many times. Only put what you want to be in your permanent record," she warns, sliding the folder to him. "The first official training session is in a week, they are paid training, and I will text you with time, day and location because for this particular kind of training, a simple gym room won't cut it."
Sam Guthrie Sam Guthrie nods his head a bit to this and takes the paper starting to fill it out as they talk. "Ah will admit, when Ah first thought about the job, Ah was hoping to work in Bushwick and show some of the people there, there were police officers who were there to help them. Maybe inspire some of them to follow the steps."
Sara Pezzini "There's a reason I accepted this particular precinct for our base," Sara replies with a chuckle. "We're in Bushwick, which means all those officers on the first floor are going to get my boot up their asses if they don't get out there. And I intend to watch them, closely. By the time I'm done, this precinct will be mutant friendly."

She takes another sip of her coffee, though really it's too hot for true drinking. "I'd be more than willing to help you with whatever goals you have in that regard, because I'd love to see more mutants at the academy and on the force."
Sam Guthrie Sam Guthrie nods, and says "Well that's still up in the air, to be honest, Ah may have to consider a few things, like the fact when I am at the other job Ah don't have a lot obscuring my identity, googles and may end up keeping a smaller set on me while in uniform or a pouch or something."
Sara Pezzini Sara nods, glancing to the paper work for a moment, then back up to his face. "If the goggles help with your abilities, then use them. I'll ensure there's no flack over it," she states bluntly. "I love having that kind of power right now, but trust me, it won't go to my head. If having Witchblade didn't go to my head, bureaucratic bull won't either."
